Great deep dive for people who have never dialed in a Mark amp! Appreciate Doug's passion.Still missing a little chug but for anybody still wanting more check out Ola Englund's latest.
I kinda assumed most of us would wait for his vid to get the definitive metal chug content and the rest would be whatever. Glad Gibson finally came to their senses and got Doug to properly explain all the stuff and show people how to properly dial in the amp. Dinesh shouldn’t have been discovering how the amp actually works AFTER the disastrous product launch marketing flop.
Hearing Doug really go in depth with this amp is so cool. As someone who’s been playing Mark Series amps for 5 years now. This still had some real gems in terms of dialing these amps.
Glad to finally see Doug explaining the amp. I could never afford an original model but loved my two studio preamps and rev A Mark IV. The V was a bummer personally but my new VII is incredible and I’m using it now for channel content.
Doug, thank you so much for the in depth explanation. I have a MKiic from 1983. the cleans are my favorite. I have been on the fence about the plus mod but I love it just fine. This is now my reference to dial it in. Greatest thanks!
I hoping we would get this kind of video with Doug going over everything! So cool. Great for the people that have no experience either the mark series to learn and skip the frustration of learning to dial the amp
I don't understand why anyone cared at all how they marketed the amp when it was released. The amp sells itself because it's legendary and everyone already knows the deal.
Congrats to all the Mesa/Boogie and Gibson teams that helped bring this classic back to the modern era for a new audience of players can enjoy and create! \m/
This is one of the most versatile Swiss Army amps of all time. Just because you don't like a particular tone they dialed in for a video, doesn't mean Gibson/Mesa Boogie doesn't know what they're are doing... Selling this as a just a metal amp is a horrible marketing idea and honestly it would be a disservice to how amazing this amplifier actually is.
Agree. We all know the chug chug stuff this thing is famous fpr. Problem with these was always that you needed two to have a tonal variety live. Or get a Mark IV. (which I always thought sounded better even for the high gain stuff).
As I’m listening to them talk about the graphic EQ, and being a happy owner of a Mark 5-25; it is very possible to use the graphic EQ as your favorite metallica rhythm sound like the classic master puppets to black album sound that I love, and disengage the EQ for mid range focused solo sounds, or get a good nasty chunky kill em all type of sound like the song whiplash. That is my Mesa Boogie using advice for the classic metallica sounds that very much informed my purchase of said amp.
I love these videos from you Mesa, educational for future buyers. I would like some variety in the official videos, like you used to invite John Petrucci. And Jason Frankhauser (therealkillertone) wanted to make a demo, he asked us, his subs, to help, so please do your best.
Doug doesn't understand why the metal community uses the GEQ. No, we don't need to go back and reference the "true tone" without it. We're not playing boomer bends.
Mad respect to Mesa/Gibson for being so responsive to the feedback, but they shouldn’t bend the knee so quickly to all the internet trolls. Most people who actually buy gear don’t care that the first video wasn’t a thrash tribute. You guys are doing a fine job - internet commenters will always take cheap shots and try to gain attention.
I miss Andy Timmons on the guitar. Not to say this guy is bad he is also a fantastic player. Have a Mark V and seriously considering getting one of these.
Idk man, if you have a Mark V, you already have this inside of your mark V. Don't get me wrong, go ahead and get this amp if you want because it sounds sick, but if I had a gun to my head, I'd take a Mark V any day of the week over this, just more options.
Cool demo, if you sit around and pick chords out and do little wanky solo licks.... Where is the big heavy skull crushing thrash at because that is what MOST people bought this amp for. I don't get it. LOL
Why was the indian man cutting doug off at the end and seemed like he was sick and tired of doing the demo and wanted to go outside and hit the vape?? Didnt even let doug have closing words..... does Doug work for this man?
I’m sorry, but those mid-gain tones just don’t sound full or pleasant to my ears. He called the tone, “Smokey” that’s not what I want my guitar to sound like. It’s a Mark2c+, turn the gain up, dial the mids back a little and enjoy the sonic bliss this amp offers! Enjoy Destiny!
Why do they have a salesperson giving us sound examples?!? With so many legendary players who currently use or have used this amp, why don’t they just have them or someone who can actually play demo the amp for us?!? - Who’s in charge at Gibson???🤦♂️🤡
This dude just cant play the same damn riff can he.... you cannot get a good idea for tones when the notes are always wanking around and never repeating.
“Dialing in single coil clean” - with les paul. They even can’t encourage for their competitors and bring strat for this section. strat that can raise the sells of the amp but unlike Fender marketing, Gibson is so CLUMSY.
Its so funny the whole thing about the dad-rock-allegation-thing. The 2C+ is not only a metal amp although it is its heritage. Yes it does thrash metal but it also does other things and thats whats this is about. If dad-rock is a problem why even bother with a real amp, i thought GenZ was all about DSP anyways. Quit bashing Mesa and Gibson already
Having one of the earliest DRG C+'s 1984, what I would have wanted explained to me here, but the video would have been hrs longer, is that, I wish Doug would have explained in more detail as to what is going on under the hood. For example, pulling the treble shift is introducing a 750pf cap and if you would want something a lil different maybe try x y z. To this day , I hardly hear any difference in my amp when I adjust the mid and bass pots. And yes, my amp has been in MB' s hands a couple times. I have to always have an overdrive pedal always on in front to make the amp sound halfway decent. From what I'm hearing here, not impressed.
In other words…we’ve built an amp we want to charge you $3600 that’s impossible to dial-in a usable sound unless you watch UA-cam videos and use these exact settings. Ok, I got it.
Doug is such a passionate guy, you can just tell how much love he has for what he does. Great video and really helpful explanations of the controls!
We’re so glad you enjoyed it!

Great amp! Thanks for the deep dive video. Love my Mark V with the IIC+ mode.
Glad you enjoyed the video!
This is the video that should have dropped first. Great job!
Exciting times, thanks Mesa!!! So many years of greatness and tones.
Our pleasure!
Glad to finally see Doug explaining the amp. I could never afford an original model but loved my two studio preamps and rev A Mark IV. The V was a bummer personally but my new VII is incredible and I’m using it now for channel content.
Good to see Doug. Gibson better not mess with this man
I think Doug is the only guy in the world I would let adjust the knobs on my amp. He’s the dude 😁🤘🏻

Here for the comments
🤣
👍
So many classic sounds from one amp !
I found an old Mark V demo and Doug is hell of a player. He should play more on Mesa reviews.
I don't understand why anyone cared at all how they marketed the amp when it was released. The amp sells itself because it's legendary and everyone already knows the deal.
Yeah and they still have commercials for toilet paper. Why? 🤣
I think the complaints were mostly geared to how horribly awkward that original video was and how poorly planned it was.
Mesa always had cheesy sounding demos
I had been thinking the same thing lol
Sorry, but that's just a bad take. People wanted to see whether the newer amps recreated the sound of the original. Not every re-release is accurate.
Please add all the push/pull pots, input volume, and OG simul-class to the next mark amp
Very wise words of advice about referencing the sound of the amp with and without eq. The same goes for everything else too.
Congrats to all the Mesa/Boogie and Gibson teams that helped bring this classic back to the modern era for a new audience of players can enjoy and create! \m/
Dinesh, thank you and Doug for this instructive tour of the sounds on tap.

The refusal to just do the thing is fucking impressive.
Really great video, very helpful.
Glad you enjoyed it!
How about a review where someone on screen owns a copy of And Justice For All ?
Pacino was great in that.
@ Alright, here is the “…”
Not everyone wants this amp for thrash metal
I love these videos from you Mesa, educational for future buyers. I would like some variety in the official videos, like you used to invite John Petrucci.

very excited to get one in the UK when I can
Ola got a better sound in 30 seconds 😁
I mean… he also owns an OG IIC+ so he already knows exactly where to go with it.
@@FastRedPonyCarso does Doug
lol it wasnt a race it was Doug showing exactly what the knobs do ....even though i agree with you (im a metalhead)
What was the final amp that Randall ever designed for Mesa before he left?
Mark VII and/or Gibson Falcon.
I will use it to learn how to better understand my Neural DSP Mark IIc+ plugin. ;D
This sounds great. Without the EQ it reminds me of incubus. You guys rock! Thanks guys! Very interested in a 7 vs 2c+ comparison.
What's the Les Paul? Like the look of it.
Les Paul Studio, in Blueberry Burst $1599.00 USD

Yngwie and many others turn their Bass control all the way off. This is precise
Sounds great! It's called a "coil split" btw. A "coil tap" is something completely different.
Possibly the most confusing tech on a guitar.
What a strange rollout for this amp.
Damage control
This amp created metal in 1984
Thr jmp/jcm created metal. This amp was not very popular. Marshall is the king of metal and hard rock
Dad Rock with A Vengeance!
Trying to save face with this video!!
Where's the Damage knob? Looks as though youre also doing some damage control!
Please reissue the Mark IV Rev B.
And bring Mark Morton in to showcase it, shouldn’t be difficult since he’s a Gibson artist now
Mad respect to Mesa/Gibson for being so responsive to the feedback, but they shouldn’t bend the knee so quickly to all the internet trolls.

Appreciate you!
Very well said. I mean it can be used for way more than only “…And Justice for All tones.” The cleans sound fantastic.
5000 canadiad dollars 😮🎉
cool video obviously, but why not tune the guitar? : )
I miss Andy Timmons on the guitar. Not to say this guy is bad he is also a fantastic player. Have a Mark V and seriously considering getting one of these.

THIS...should have been the first vid Mesa...not the garbage Sweetwater one.
Cool demo, if you sit around and pick chords out and do little wanky solo licks.... Where is the big heavy skull crushing thrash at because that is what MOST people bought this amp for.
I don't get it. LOL
for the price of this amp Doug west should do free zoom help-hehe

Not very impressive, what speakers were used ?
All good until the eq lol .......missed it again lol
Warm sounding amp , possibly better to use a Telecaster rather than coil tap on a humbucker guitar .
Just skip ahead to the 40 minute mark to hear the stuff everyone was wanting the first time around.
This dude just cant play the same damn riff can he.... you cannot get a good idea for tones when the notes are always wanking around and never repeating.
These guys don't know how to dial in a IIC+, and they work for Mesa. Every youtube Bedroom player gets better tones than them.
LESS TALK MORE DO.

Too much and doesnt match the OG in gain or feel.
I bet you have neither............
The amp sounds great, but the guitar is out of tune. A shame
Very complicated amp..in a small box. Very spicey pricey…
do it all you want. this, still does not sound like the OG.

Yikes…
Make it Murphy Lab. Darn, this is lame. Gibson is all about recycling
more money for less effort is still money
issues with the reissue lol
53+ minutes?! 🥱💤
Send one to Euge.
See Ola's to quickly hear if it chugs.
