  • Sonny and I got a chance to dive into this beast of an amp. It is a 4 channel monster with modern features.
Signal Chain: Les Paul Gothic - Revv Generator MK3 - Direct Out using the built in Two Notes Torpedo using our Secret Sauce Mesa OS IR - Audient iD22
(There is some mild mix bus processing)
I would have to say if I could only have 1 amp in the studio, this would be the one. The built in Two Notes is great. The 10w power mode is fantastic and perfect for when you don't want (or can't due to the wife bitching) to crank it.
If you have any questions or want to see a demo on anything specific, just let us know in the comments.

Fantastic demo and nice playing. Hey...If you're not gonna use the bottom four strings, can I have 'em?

What channel are you on for the first song you play? It's really heavy and polished sounding.
Are you using a cab and speakers or direct outs?
Looks like you are on the Blue channel for that first heavy section, which is odd since Blue is clean?!

We both have 5153 50w EL34's now with the blue channel mod now. Go figure.

Love how this sounds man. Sad part is that most normal people will ever be able to afford such an amp. :(

@BlackLabelAudio- I just got the revv 100p and when I turn it on the leds flicker from one color to the next and then its fine. Is that normal from your experience? Thanks.

I haven’t seen any flickering on mine. I would suggest sending Revv an email explaining the problem.

Any thought on how the Revv compares to amps like the Diezel Einstein and D-Mol, EVH Stealth, etc?
I often hear how stiff and articulate the Revv is. I like to be able to dial in some give so that an amp is not too dry and unforgiving.

That is a hard question to answer. I think of it as a swiss army knife. It can do a little of everything. Because of that it doesn’t have a super strong character which is why it does many tones well. I’d take the Revv over my 5150s 100w any day. I love Diezel’s but don’t feel they are very versatile. The Revv I can push it in different ways and get different tones. And the tones are easy to dial in.

@@colourwavestudios Thanks, good to know. Sucks they are hard to find, to test. I have a PRS Archon 100, modified Mesa Dr and Mark V, and looking at a Revv Generator Mk III or Diezel D-Mol.
Last thing - how does the Revv do for thick and creamy leads sort of like you'd hear from Lynch or Tremonti? My amp has to be great at lead playing as well. :)

I really am thinking of replacing my Mark V with this or a KSR.
I hear the Revv is very bright. So you find that? Rather stiff and dry? I tend to like good saturation and richness. Plus I love amps that can be dark and chewy like a Bogner. I heard the channel 4 or red was modeled after the Uberschall and Dual Rec. Can it get chewy like that?
How about the Green channel, can it pull off 80s VH or 90s grunge with a warm tone? Thanks!!

    • @colourwavestudios
      @colourwavestudios  2 роки тому

Considering I had a KSR Gemini and a Mark V a couple months before this amp, I would say it is definitely darker and smoother than the KSR. You can definitely get it bright, but settings at noon with no bright switch sounds really even. You aren’t stuck with bright. It does get chewy but nothing really gets that dual rec tone. Sonny lives on the Green channel. I’ve been using it a lot more too. You can really get about any tone out of this amp. It is still in the studio as the main go to amp. Ordered a matching cab for it too although nothing beats the straight Mesa standard 4x12. The direct out is fantastic too. It doesn’t do the Mesa vibe, but yeah the red channel gets close. I’m still looking for a Mark IV for that. I can throw up a video of some red channel tones.

@@colourwavestudios Wow, thank you! The Revv can be darker and smoother than the KSR? I always hear KSR is so dark.
I miss my Bogner but love the versatility of the Revv. It looks like Red channel can her darker, more low mids, more forgiving and smoother. Love that.
My cabs are Bogner 412, Splawn 412, Bogner 212 and Stone Age 212.
      Soeakers are a mix of Mesa V30s, Redbacks, K100s, DV77s, VM12-65s and CL80s. Thanks.
I would love to hear you do some smooth, chewy red channel leads, maybe something close to Bogner or similar.
I miss my Shiva but I get good tones from my Archon 100, BFG modded Dual Rec and Mark V. I want to sell the V and maybe grab a Revv.
I play everything from VH, to Rush, to classic rock, to Alice in Chains and other rock and grunge from the 90s plus Metallica, Deftones, Tool, Slipknot, etc. :)
      Thanks sir! :)
How did you think the Revv compared to the Mark V and KSR?
I have a Mark V that I enjoy but I wish it had more saturation and gain on channel two without having to be so bright and even channel 3 which I like, I feel like the voicing may not be great for me. It's weird cause at band practice, everyone loved the V. I the acoustics in my music room aren't that great. :(
Another amp I'm looking at is the Engl Savage 120 Mk II, Mezzabarba Trinity and EVH Stealth 100.

@@colourwavestudios I'm still surprise you say the Rvv is darker I always hear they are brighter than KSR. I'm excited. I'm selling the Mk V for the Revv.
I have a modified Dual Rec. When I think chewy, I think Bogner.
I used to have a Fryette Sig X and miss it. Even that had some chew.
Honestly my Mark V on Mark I and channel 3 can get smoothnand chewy too.

@@Bognerman14 My Gemini had a lot of bite to it at noon. It wasn't smooth to me. I had an Archon at the same time which was smoother in the high end. Cabinet makes a big difference. The Revv cab is way darker than my Mesa traditional. With the Revv cab I have to boost the high end about 3dB more.

    • @Bognerman14
      @Bognerman14 2 роки тому

@@colourwavestudios Yes my Archon can be pretty smooth and I often prefer even smoother.
My other amps are a modified Dual Rec, the Archon 100 and Mark V.
Cabs are Splawn 412, Bogner 412, Bogner 212 and Stone Age 212.
Speakers are Mesa V30s, Redbacks, CL80s, Eminence DV-77 and VM12-65.,
So you find the Revv darker and smoother than most?
