About Gold Shaw Farm: Gold Shaw Farm is more of a farm-in-progress than an honest-to-goodness farm. Our dream is that someday, we can transform our 150+ acre parcel of land into a regenerative and productive homestead and farm. - Розваги
My father ,a long time dairy farmer, would have told you -- lime that winter quarters and then lime it again. What ever you have got going wrong just might be in the soil..
I would suggest lime too and I'm not a farmer. Just makes sense.
Why does everyone think something is wrong with the soil when it was just the male calves which were affected, I mean it happened within days of their being castrated. I'm surprised it hasn't been addressed really.
@@rockingredpoppy9119 because this type of castration is very safe so the only thing which could have really affected it is the dirty ground.
@@rockingredpoppy9119 Many people commented on that in the first video -- when Eliot was sick. One even said that type of castration is illegal in their country (Sweden I think?). I see others in here saying it's perfectly safe.
@@rockingredpoppy9119 I wondered about the castration too.
“Release the Quacken” never gets old!
I still like All Ducks Go To Bed... He doesn't use that one much anymore. I bought a couple of his shirts with that one.
I just want you to know that my kitty Esper loves your videos. If I play one, she hears your voice or the sound of the birds and she comes running, making herself comfy in my lap so she can watch. I've never had a pet that cared about TV/videos before, and it's pretty adorable. Keep up the good work, Morgan!
That is an awesome story. 😺
It’s so enjoyable to see the finesse and ease with which you undertake your electrical and plumbing chores now. It didn’t take you long to climb a massive learning curve, adopt the best methods and get the right tools . We’re all proud of you, man, for tackling such a big dream so far out of your wheelhouse. Most of us don’t have the courage to try, much less to document it every step of the way.
Aren't you amazed how super 'normal' all these tasks feel now! The rhythm of the farm is it's own song.
Morgan, your parents must be so proud of you. It amazes me that you lived in Washington DC and knew you didn’t want to do that all your life. Then you dreamed of being a farmer and did it! Kudos to you!👍Montana Cynthia
Happy to see the moo crew is fully intact in this video.
Hey Morgan, thank you for showing yourself getting through small tasks.
As a person who struggles with motivation, even with the smallest things, it was encouraging to hear about your own motivational boost and how you recognized how much you really were doing despite the tasks being "small."
Thank you for coming back, Morgan❣ You are very loved and we all need you in our lives. Well done!!!💯. Every obstacle in our lives makes us stronger.😉
This is RJ... I grew up a couple of miles down the road from where Morgan and Allison live in South Peacham. Always enjoy seeing the mountains in the distance recalling memories of a time long since gone...
Morgan, thank you for taking us along for the ride. It's a pleasure to see your everyday life.
Good to hear the heard is the herd is still going strong. Excited to see the new weird chicken home.
0:17 'we have an extremely busy day', 'let's make it even more busy by filming everything'
I just love it. 😅
Releasing the birds always makes me smile. And I love how you talk with all of your animals. Thank you!
I'm glad to see you in 'Good Spirits'. This episode demonstrates how you assess work and prepare, explaining why you chose the needed tools. Then, you showed us how to complete the repair. It was a good start for a beautiful spring day. Loved the moose update, too.
Doing your cattle yard with lime will help with some of the soil bacteria problem if that may be the problem with the calves.
Can't wait to see the moo crew heading out to pasture.
50 plus ➕️ 50 watering thingies would be excellent. I remember ALL those videos where you carried the buckets and some where you put them on the back of the truck but mostly bucket carrying ❤❤❤
Whenever I sit down on the throne these days I loudly shout "RELEASE THE CRAPPIN'." The people I live with are not amused.
😂😂😂😂
💩 😂
Omg I'm in splits, you need to have that plaque on the door 🚪 😆😁😆😁😁
Then close the door.
Morgan, in the meantime can you put down straw or wood chips or some type of bedding so the cows and calves are not laying in mud, manure and urine? Both in the pen and in the barn, so they have a clean place to rest? Also, putting the males in a potentially contaminated yard may not be optimal? Glad the other calves are looking ok.
I have thought so as well and wondered.
I don't think the yard is contaminated, too much of a coincidence that both the male calves were only affected and both were just castrated.
@@rockingredpoppy9119 That could be a factor, but there is no way that the pen, layers of mud, manure and urine, with no lime or changed bedding, isn't full of bacteria. It's also a lot of animals in a very small space.
The vet noted the cows are a bit thin, in addition to hygiene changes, which it sounds like Morgan may be planning, they may need supplemental feed and minerals during winter and mud season. Even navigating the mud without bedding put down requires more energy as does the cold and rainy weather.
Look forward to what Morgan has in mind for next winter. That the cows and calves entered the barn is a good sign, with a few tweaks it can be made cleaner and more comfortable for them.
he does throw down straw but the cattle trample it and it works its way into the soil. Give the man a chance, by the time you saw this video the girls were probably already moved.
@@SharonRepici He puts down hay to feed them. He puts down straw for the birds, maybe that is what you are thinking of. He plans changes for next year for cattle in winter, he said in the video.
I’m having a really bad mental day I felt happy even you started doing the posts again
I miss seeing the cattle in the pasture
Morgan when clamping your clamps on the water pipe stager the pinch points so they are opposite of each other. Much more secure and less likely to leak. Great job on the videos farm looks great.
Needs to work on the application of the Teflon tape a little also.
I'm sitting on our cold winter day smiling Morgan at how much you have learnt. I love watching g your channel. Am so sorry you lost your two new calves. I look forward to you bringing more piggies on the farm. My great grandsons will be thrilled. So lovely to see Lavender on a clutch. What a gorgeous picture. Oh I miss my days as a girl egg collecting. Hope Alison is well. Have a great day.😊😊❤❤
"Hey Rocky! Watch me pull a rabbit out of my hat. Nothin' up my sleeve. Presto!"
Aww I love the baby's name Betty Ruble From the Flintstones Now you have to name 1 of the baby's Wilma Flintstone. Remember they are the best friends on that show.
But "Wilma" doesn't match his naming pattern. He's using B names for daughters of the A name cows.
@@openhorizon1162we'll get to w or f eventually. Bam Bam is a b
@openhorizon1162 It will one day, though in a long time as w would be the 23rd generation
Getting those Spring chores under control, you go Morgan. Hopefully the cows will be out grazing on the grass (isn't there a song with that title, lol). Don't forget to video it. Thanks Morgan for taking us along, always appreciated.🐕🐕🦆🥚❤️👍
You should have heard how excited I was when you said moose! I’m very interested in hearing about them being around your place.
Good to see you back and doing better.
I`ll keep asking ad infinity
Please give us some Farmdog moments of Zen. Or Farmdog grooming.
Seeing them so Happy to see you every morning heals my heart
maybe chaotic good doesnt zen
Morgan hope your doing good man much love from Ohio
Yes, please give us an update on the trees. I missed how much money you made from them
A hard standings area that’s protected from elements and easy to scrape and clean regularly should be priority. Hygine is so important
So cool to have moose! We had lots of them in Anchorage Alaska! Huge beasties!
I love to see people get so happy about moose! If you ever really want to see big moose Alaska got them
Good job Morgan on resetting your Summer pastures. 👍 I'm looking forward to the pasture rotation to begin and the Winter barn area recovery to begin. Thanks for the trail camera footage of the wildlife around your farm. 🥰
FYI: the connection of the pastic pipe becomes much more reliable if you wait until the plastic gets cold and then crimp it since the crimp on hot plastic squeezes the plastic and does not have much tension.
Could you do another video updating us on the progress of your trees in the orchard? I'm curious to see how much they've grown and if you're able to make money off of most of them yet.
It feels like forever since he’s talked about the trees!
Hope your well Morgan - From fellow farming folk in Yorkshire UK
I need more details on that hose connection system for covering large areas. It looks convenient!
❤ Ahh, yes, it's a beautiful spring day at GSF! Thanx, Morgan. ❤
Your fencing skills have improved greatly and wow you are becoming more of a seasoned farmer every season.
I dunno if you have moose season in VT (they do in ME, it's around Thanksgiving) but they make a really good addition to freezer camp.
And hose clamps suck major butt. They pop so easy, and then you're stuck with a broken hose clamp. The crimp rings are so much easier and reliable (retired plumber).
Also, anything you don't know the real name of is a "thingy". Can't remember the number of times I went to the supply house and asked for "the thingy that does this" or "the thingy that looks like" shows picture I took with my phone.
Camera phones made plumbing so much easier. Need something, not sure what it is? Snap a Pic and show it to the supply house guy.
Good to hear the sound of confidence in you! We all go through these traumas from time-to-time. It's called real life, not some simulated game. Bravo for surving and thriving!
Seeing a moose sounds awesome, I love seeing any animal. It's good to learn about these tasks.
Looking forward to seeing you riding your bike up to the pasture to check on the cows with Abby following along.
Great vintage Gold Shaw Farm video. Besides the hatchery series, you haven't done as many instructional videos as you used to. I like these videos a lot.
That moose is huge! I love it!
We in just West of Timmins Ontario Canada (About 40 miles) have a herd of 'White Moose' that are Protected from ANY hunting!
I'm glad to see the two calves appear to be doing well. Are you training the crows with fake eggs yet? Another random thing to add to your list; I think it will work.
Yes Apparently it works for fake strawberry too!
Seeing that shot at 7:58 from when you had just bought the farm was so cool! Amazing how much has happened since then. Sometimes we need those stark reminders to see how far we've come
I’m jealous of your moose! My recent discovery on our property is a female bobcat in heat. Which is cool, but also concerning for my birds.
Are bobcats making a comeback? We've seen a lot of them in the Colorado foothills this year. Everyone and their brother posting photos of big cats with no tails sculking around their suburbia yards at night. I wish one could come my way and help me out with the underground rodent problem.
@@urkiddingme6254 I think they’re pretty common where I am in Oregon. We’re out in the country, on five acres in the Willamette Valley. My particular problem is that a neighbor recently logged and clear cut the property next door, and now I have several issues with wildlife I didn’t have before. More small prey animals on my property means more small predators, too.
@@13MoonsOverMayhem I'm also 5 acres. The rodents moved in after a forest fire burned down all my pine trees. Lots of undesirable stuff moved in - like Canada Thistle and Mullein and pocket gophers. Interesting how the absence of trees changes what critters your lot attracts.
@@urkiddingme6254 indeed, you’re right, it will change the flora, too. That side of my property now gets full sun and increased wind pressure, when previously was all shaded and protected from wind. Might turn out good for my garden, but not necessarily for the rest of the property.
@@13MoonsOverMayhem Exactly my experience. I never knew how windy Colorado was until the trees disappeared. I'd get out on the Interstate on my commute to work and think, wow, where'd the wind come from? In the forest it's just a lovely lullaby of the swaying pines.
I wanted to say this on the video when the vet was there you said something about a squeeze and I watch another channel that uses arrowquip for his long horns and highlands just figured I would let you know of another option. Pet the pups for me and have a blessed day
Morgan, love your technical terms for things!
M O O S E ! ! ! How cool.
first let me say, im so sorry about the calves ...from what ive seen on your videos, there hasnt been a definitive diagnosis...i am just wondering if the vet may have suggested maybe they didnt get enough colostrum from the moms in time for it to help them...anyway we love you and wish all the best things for you and your wife and animal family ! 🤗 ❤
Morgan,,,look at you go guy….look at how much you know…you continue to amaze me, I also like how emotionally involved with your animals.
You remind me of the Wichita Lineman. You are diligent and committed.
Ty for updating.❤😊
You must be looking forward to getting your bike out Morgan. It would be beautiful to ride around where you are. May you all please take care and stay safe. Louisa. 👏👏👏❤️❤️❤️🤩🤩🤩
The moose is awesome!
nice to hear the pigs will be returning
Trees! Trees! Trees! Trees! Treestreestrees! (To the tune of “shots”)
Regular maintenance like the water hoses and electric wire connections that Morgan is doing saves a lot of time and extra work. I speak from experience. We do learn.;)
I get a visit daily from a mom Moose with her babies. Sometimes I have to run inside cause I can hear her giving me warnings to go away. Moose are beautiful but they need to be respected
If Abby Dog is chaotic good, does that mean Bean is chaotic neutral?
Also, is it kind of odd that Elliot and Prince left too soon but the girls are thriving? Makes me wonder if it had anything with banding them too young.
Sending hugs from Oregon.
Love watching the changing of seasons ❤
Loved todays teaching video. Well done Morgan!
You should have a huge garden and huge amounts of orchards of peaches ...and or apples depending on the season
He has tons of wild apples that he uses for cider and feeding to the pigs.
I really like your garden. It looks so large and can accommodate pets. It's great that I have a farm like yours. Wishing you and your family good health. Have a nice day. new good
Its always exciting to start a new season on the farm.. Doing the fixing up and preparing for the new season, fun times!!
I’m so sorry about your babies that didn’t make it. I couldn’t look at the entire videos. I was devastated, as I’m guessing you were also. Okay I’m finished.
Seems like you need a tiny shed/chest at the top of the pasture to keep a tiny stash of necessary supplies!
Per IG, looks like the cows and calves are back on pasture. May they have a healthy and happy summer!
Always enjoy your channel! Thank you for sharing !

Entertaining, informative, enjoyable video! Thanks for sharing all that you did, I know it makes your jobs take longer and more trouble so thanks for going to that extra effort Morgan!
Someone in the comments mentioned that if the castration of the male calves had an impact. I wondered that too.
Enjoyed the video. You always have interesting tidbits in your videos.
It would be fun, later in the year, to have an update on your permaculture tree lines. 6 years in so some production should be happening soon, no?
loving the background music and your editing
Yet another awesome video Morgan!! I just love you! I love these types of videos. Please make more of them!!❤❤❤
You missed the perfect opportunity to include a Bullwinkle reference!
So enjoy your videos!
this was really interesting! a video on helpful farm tools you use would be a cool watch.
Oooh Morgan you have no idea how happy I was when you crimped the electrical wires, after watching previous attempts 😂
i love your videos!😄
12:39 Ferrules (Cable Ferrule), and the tool is a Cable Ferrules crimping tool.
At my dad's house we saw moose all the time. It wasn't even a farm, they were just wandering the street sometimes :p Once one decided to take a nap on our lawn.
So you are setting up for the coming summer = What a deal.....Thanks Morgan 👍
Old F-4 II Shoe🇺🇸
I am a commercial vineyard owner, and I have 2.26 miles of poly tubing to irrigate my vines... there is something called goof plugs.. they are cheap and soo much easier. with a pair of adjustable pliers you can just push it into the hole.. sometimes you have to slightly widen the hole with the hole punch for the emitters. it takes that job you did of which took a couple minutes and turned it into less than a minute.. on a farm time is money.. the quicker you get the projects done, the quicker you can go do things that you want to do aside from farming. just a bit of advice from a fellow farmer. that said I like what you are doing overall and may G-d bless you and your fam.
While that's true Morgan did say earlier that his plan is to add 50 more water connectors. So, adding them now rather than plugging the leak and then adding later in the season is a waste of time and resources.
At 11:33 I was like, "ah, no bike ?" and then at 11:37 it made sense XD This is why we don't comment before finishing the video, people :P
Good video!
To get physically closer to the Charolais cows try looking more like them than a potential predator. As an experiment try wearing light colored clothing or cover your clothes with a white sheet.
3rd year of me waiting for that flowing pond system you promised when you found the upper well 😂 lets hope this summer you can get the machinery through the swamp
Cool! Blessings!
That is so e sweet Plastic piping system you have… water is evil and just wants to leak.
Respect for your work Sir, you believe .
“I always feel like I’m a wrestler” 😂 I’ve never thought about it like that but I’m going to be now!
Cool. Last time I saw moose, I was in Yellow Stone.
Still not out to pasture?!
A moose! Omg! You know the ecosystem is happy when species return like that, awesome!
