  • I used the GoPro HERO 9 Black's TimeWarp 3.0 feature to capture a recent hike at the Cascades National Recreation Trail in Pembroke, Virginia. This is a 4-mile round trip trail trail that follows a mountain creek to a 66-foot waterfall within Jefferson National Forest.
I went on a Friday around midday and had no issues with parking at the trailhead. It is $3 per vehicle for parking, and there is also a shelter with restrooms at the trailhead. There are a couple of different trails you can take to the falls - we took the easier of the two routes for this hike. The trail is very clearly marked from start to finish. I was hoping the fall foliage would still be in effect on my hike, but most of the leaves had already fallen.
It is not pictured in this video, but if you are up for a longer hike you can continue hiking past the base of the falls to the Barney's Wall overlook. I have done the Cascades hike several times and didn't even know Barney's Wall existed until recently - in my opinion, it is an underrated overlook in the area that makes for some great pictures.
