I use this one, but wanted to really thank you for that last one with the 3,6,9,12 doubler trick. That was one of those game changer/add it to the stable tricks that I'll now use forever. Thanks so much.
Love it. I like how it keeps the vocal up front, but still lets the listener hear that beautiful reverb space that all of us audio nerds like to hear. It's really good in that mix you're working on there. It feels like sitting in a very natural space at a piano with a great singer there. Definitely adding it to my bag, thank you.
This was just great, i am not a newbie on reverbs but this makes so much sense. How did not think about this before, I like these tricks more than plugins or eq all that. Amazing.
Mm, "don't get too hung up on particulars or numbers. Listen to what's going on" Lol "Oh, man, I don't understand 'Release'... ! Yesss, you do, you just saw me do it." perfect I really feel like this is going to set my reverb to another level. I'm actually working on the exact type of piano/ vocal ballad Should you put delay on the same channel Before/After the Reverb plugin?? Or would you advise two reverbs one to color the delay and another one for the vocals Also I'm sorry to go on but I have to ask! is it Usually a good idea to send the Reverb track to the same bus as your vocals?? or are they better suited going straight to the Master Bus or some other Stereo Bus
Your tutorials are always crystal-clear and easy to understand. I'm a Dr. Bob fan for life. P.S. I'm still workin up that Van Morrison spoof/Dr.Bob tribute. I'll email you when I have something presentable. Thank you so much for keepin this channel going.
I love how you made the -25db work in this mix it's great! Lol Your channel is great boss, so much great content with minimal fluff. I signed up for your membership thing at the lounge. When I'm more sorted with the basics, I'll sign up for the monthly phone thing and you can bring me over to the dark side!
This has always been a great trick, I used to do it but I wasn't so sure of what I was doing till now thanks a lot Bob ur channel is a blessing to me. Thanks again. Love ❤️ you Sir
Absolutely love your videos, you really are a good teacher and explain things so well. I like that you throw a bit of humour in there as well. My band are currently doing a cover of hysteria and your getting huge backing vocal videos you did are gonna be so crucial when it comes time for me to mix it. Thanks for doing what your doing man! 🤘
The Lexicon Primetime 2 digital delay had a function that would hold down the repeat tails (to an adjustable degree) as long as there was signal on the input. If memory serves it was called Dynamic Recirculation Control. Hard to do in the 80s, but very easy now.
I'm starting to see more reverb and delay plugins with ducking built right in (e.g. FabFilter, Valhalla, Liquidsonics). Will be nice when this is the norm.
Hey Dr Bob - great vid. I have always loved Mr Jeffery 'Elo' Lynnes production and writing since I was a youngster. I'm trying to get a Mr Lynne 'Steppin Out' verse style vocal on a track and need some of your expert help to 'heal' my mix. Listening to it, it seems to have some reverb and ducking 'quack quack' delay on it as well as a stomping eq compression etc. Any help greatly recieved. Love the channel - subscribed and belled.
ALL your videos kick ass, bro! Just saw your vid on VSTs......if you haven't checked out "Intensity" by Zynaptique, have a listen. Not cheap, but when the sales are on, I've grabbed it at a huge discount. It uses AI to bring sublime clarity to any track. Wish ya all the best man!
Hmmm….. what about the auto make up gain in “on” position. So in a way the compressor is compressing but the auto make up is getting it back. Is that on purpose ? I usually switch off the auto make up gain on the compressor.
@@BobbyHuff Is the reverb after the vocal in the chain, so you are side chaining from the same track (is that possible?), or is the reverb going into a vocal bus containing the reverb, then they(vocal and vocal bus) route back into the master channel ? Or something else ? Great vid. BTW.
@@jj4404 hey JJ. The reverb is on an fx channel and I’m sending reverb to it. The vocal is on its own channel and they are both coming out the master bus. Does that make sense?
You left out a huge part dude, most understand how to operate a compressor, you totally failed to show your audience how to side chain the two plugins. You assumed your viewer knew how to do that and drilled how to operate a compressor. Not a balanced lesson Dr. Bob.
That lesson was in 2 videos ago. Can’t go back to square one every time. You obviously missed that video. Im always open to criticism but not this time. All good.
Thanks for all the comments on the song. I’ll let u all know when it comes out!
Beautiful vocal, she's really alive in every note.
That is a fantastic reverb trick, that song is now stuck in my head and her voice is amazing...!!!
I’m new to this way of recording. Thanks 🙏
good voice and lyrics

Very well explained.
Great tip - and I'm going to need the name of the singer & song for this one when it comes out, she has a fantastic voice
That was far more clever than carefully dialing in short and long decays. Very nice. It’s worth trying this on a live next too!
Absolutely love it
Where can you hear the whole song, the reverb goes well with the vocals I love it.
I saw Marc Daniel Nelson doing this trick.. cool pro tip! Thanks!
Amazing tip! Love it! I'm going to use this one in my next mix session! Thanks Dr Bob!!!
Thanks Nexis!
I’ve used this once before but thanks for the refresher Doc!
This was just great, i am not a newbie on reverbs but this makes so much sense. How did not think about this before, I like these tricks more than plugins or eq all that. Amazing.
Sounds amazing , will also sound great on any emotional piano pieces 👍👍
Agreed!
The Dr. is in. I'm there. Look forward to every video.
Fantastic vocal. Knew this trick but should use it more. Thanks for the reminder.
I'm going to have to remember to use this ine on my vocals for sure I love it.
Ok. I've been placing the reverb in the channel bus. I guess I'll have to go back to putting the reverb in a send. Thanks for the great tip!
BTW Bobby, the reason a lot of us delay subscribing is that we use roku and can't access the button. I finally got on my computer and subscribed.
Thanks Mike!!
Love it! This is beautiful sounding.
I started doing this a couple of years ago, definitely a game changer. Works great on delay, too!
That is awesome and so is that song! How beautiful! Thank you for all your videos! Always helpful !

Beautiful vocals and great trick! Thanks!
It sounds very effective! Thanks for the tip
Wow! As usual this was another eye opening video. I was struggling with a mix today and this was exactly what I needed to get through the hurdle.
So cool! Instant gratification by Dr. Bob!
Fantastic technique. Thanks!
Yes. I use this all the time with Cubase's Multi Tap Delay and the "ducking" feature.
soo cool. thanks so much.
Beautiful voice. Who’s the artist? Just curious. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you for the great "layman's terms" explanation of a great technique. I'm going to need you to work on my bladder. Cheers!
That Eventide is epic.

Thanks man, beautiful!. That song is beautiful too. It's taken me a long while to realize that reverb must be very subtle. Great trick Thanks
Thanks Peter
Dr... another beauty! What a Pal!
Another great tip, and this vocal sounds great!
I'm starting to see more reverb and delay plugins with ducking built right in (e.g. FabFilter, Valhalla, Liquidsonics). Will be nice when this is the norm.
Very cool thx!
Iv seen this trick a lot but if you use the fonction predelay which is on "none" on your plugin.
It's pretty much the same

Great video! Who is that singer?
Noice! Gonna try that today! 🎵🤘
I bet you could do another great tip video on how the release and pre-delay interact.
(:
Realy cool "trick".
Love this....so rad!
Thanks man!
Excellent. Do you have a rule for when you do and do not sidechain the reverb?
Damn it!!!! Your right again. That’s so crucial. More work for me again. Ughhhh
OOOOOOOOOooooooooo That's yummy! Thanks for sharing! Great singer too!

The only thing missing in this video ,and this could just be me but what is exactly your routing with this ?
Hey man. Not sure I understand? It’s a side chain technique. Are you familiar with side chaining?
@@BobbyHuff Is the reverb after the vocal in the chain, so you are side chaining from the same track (is that possible?), or is the reverb going into a vocal bus containing the reverb, then they(vocal and vocal bus) route back into the master channel ? Or something else ? Great vid. BTW.

@@BobbyHuff Perfect, thanks!
@@BobbyHuff which fader you used for send? Pre or post fader?
Why don´t you switch off the make up gain (AM)?
Do you use a the sidechainwd reveb directly on the track - or can you do it on a bus and blend it in as you would any other verb, delay etc?
So… it kinda turns the reverb into a delay because of the ducking that’s going on?
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Horrible song. Great singer and great channel.
Excellent surgery Doc!!😎 One of the best tutorials on using verb side-chaining.🎚🎛 Keep more of these coming Cuz..
