@@BobbyHuff Right on. I just remembered that you can store a default preset in Cubase easily. I forgot to do that for H-Delay. Simply open the plugin, turn off analog, and then go into "default preset>Save default". Gone forever :)
Great trick! Also try putting a compressor on the master reverb-buss with a very slow release, and find the balance between ducking at the beginning & blooming at the end.
I do this a lot with vox on the side-chain input to the compressor with verb and delay. Really helps to keep things from getting muddy, particularly on faster tempo tracks.
@@BobbyHuff I recently did something similar to that with my Lead-Guitar track on my Christmas video, here it is if you are interested... ua-cam.com/video/guKHlBJeSro/v-deo.html
This has been an effort of mine for a couple of years now. Advances in EQ technology have aided my attempts, in particular Eventide Split EQ. By separating transient and automating the tonality, creating 3 d features has got me rethinking everything, particularly predelay balances between two or more verbs. It's a really exciting process to be able to sign a mix with. Ymmv ✌️
Brilliant as ever, Dr. Bob - thanks for sharing all your wisdom! This is very similar to the reverb and delay presets for CLA Vocals (spreading different reverbs in the left and right here at a different time and a slap delay) and was curious the thought process under it.
Another great video. Every time I watch one of these videos I'm struck by the level of detail placed on every track in every mix. At least the great and well-mixed tracks have that detail. The cumulative effect is a great song, but under the hood there's a lot of thought and effort put in. Thanks!
Awesome trick, love all your stuff (and Blackhawk!)!!! What band is this, or at least, what singer? I love it and love what you've done with it! Thanks for all the help
Great vid, Doc. I had always thought the vocal sound (volume, echos, verb) should be symmetrical! This opens things up a lot more. Just goes to show... there are no real "rules"! Cheers.
I hope I can remember and use this properly. Sounds great! I wish I could make out the lyrics. They seem like they're very good. I love that performance
Your vocal tricks are massive. I was happy with my mixed except my vocals always sounded dead evem with good performances. Cheers for all the great info. Also cool find with the reverb, looks like one of the WW2 fuel storage tanks up north.
This is an excellent trick! I've used multiple reverbs but not hard-panned. Was kind of chuckling though, as I can't understand the lyrics whatsoever. These modern singing styles can sure obscure the words pretty often. We slave over our lyrics and I want people to understand every syllable!
Reminds me of the vocal sound they may have been thinking of or using on Ann Wilson on the 83? Heart album, like the song What about love comes to mind. Excellent advice
Great trick once again. I’ve been messing with something like this but you’re spot on. However you should mix that snare way darker and more powerfull as a contrast to his voice.🤔😎🥁
Hey Doc. I went to a trade school to learn music production 30 years ago, on tape - but with enough digital so that if it ever became affordable... I had a prof who predicted the entire studio would be a hand-held device! Anyway.... I went on to an illustrious career in construction, but now my kids want to record music. Fortunately, I still remember signal path and noise floor and Q and 3 to 1 mic placement. Your videos are a goldmine. You bring me up to date with digital strategies and tactics that the old masters couldn't do even if they wanted to. E.g.: why use 5 mics on a live snare when you can use five samples. This is foundational to me and I appreciate it very much. Please keep it up!
Dr. Bob: "Let me show you this lead vocal." Me: "WTF is that guy singing?" "Loves an eyes cagor! Kilzz da bess danyo! A big no show-o bag a koze-maker!" Sounds great though and great lesson. 👍

Who is the artist/ song? Would love to know. I am digging it big time! Keep up the surgery Doc. We appreciate it.
Nice! I’ve always done similar. I use Ocean Way Room Convo first. Then Delay. I like EP34 tape because it’s actually a bit inaccurate. Then I’ll add a bigger digital reverb like Lexicon or a Plate to get a big 3d space. Love your videos and appreciate the great advice. Thanks.
This is an awesome technique and I can't wait to try it. My only question is, what language is that guy singing in? It almost sounds like English but I can't decipher the words.
thx for the video! you'd probably really like Clearmountains Domain plug, what youre doing here is basically what it does, and prob the CLA Epic plug as well
I've not tried the Clearmountain plugin yet! Have tried CLA and although I like it there wasn't enough difference in character from one side to the other and feel like I get more out of using 3 different fx. Huge fan of both Clearmountain and CLA...great mixers!!
Melodies are great. Reverb trick is awesome… weird vocal effect… compression? Melodyne? “Kick” in “asskicker” being on beat two makes it tough to understand the lyrics too. Who wrote this?
@@BobbyHuff when is it going to be released? I really want to listen to it. It evokes a nostalgic 80s rock stadium feel for me. I've been loving the 80s style reverb on drums.
Great stuff Bob! Man I’d love to hear how you track a male tenor vocalist like this guy, to keep that powerful dynamic voice so tamed, even and up front! Do you have a video on that process? It’s all rap vocal tutorials or breathy females these days.
Hey Bobalouie! Look up my videos How the Pros compress a vocal and How the pros eq a Vocal. As far as tracking any vocalist I usually use an SM7 microphone and a Neve Mic Pre. Sometimes I’ll use a 47 or a 251 on vocals instead depending on the singer. The Universal Audio Unison plugins are VERY good to cut through as well if you don’t have a great mic pre. I also never use compression when cutting vocals as you can’t undo the compression once it’s cut that way. Thanks for watching the channel!
@@BobbyHuff thank you Bob! You are the real deal man, every demo example in all your tutorials is stellar sounding! So much quality content, I stopped watching all other insignificant channels! It’s all here!
If you wanted to save some CPU space and still accomplish this trick, you could use the new CLA ecosphere for the first Reverb and mono delay. Then you would only need one more FX send for the second Reverb. Sounds great I'm going to go try this now.
True!! I don’t feel enough difference in the character of the left side and right side verbs in that plugin but that’s just me personally. It’s a great plugin!
Good stuff. wondering where you got this idea from? Also i see you did a slight "abbey road" eq on the reverb effect...cutting lows and highs. I am usually a little more aggressive cutting the highs on reverb itself but it works great on this track. Very 80's stadium chant .
I’ve been doing this for a long time and I don’t remember who I stole it from although it could have been David Leonard..?? Great mixer…Also I do apply this eq to every reverb and most delays I use.
@@BobbyHuff what is the EQ cuts that you use on both? How do you get the smooth top end sizzle like on female ballad vocals? Whitney, Celine, etc? thanks!
What’s crazy is that if you actually watch your videos all the way through, they’re interesting and educational. However, the more you said “slap”, the more I thought about slapping drummers just because they’re drummers.
Great sounding verb there, now the hard part, finding a modern producer that doesn't think 80s and by extension, reverb, is the devil. I swear producers i know would've put the vocals in bonedry upfront in this track. In these vids would love to hear what the vocal sounds like completely dry, straight from the mic though.
