    It was crazy too how all these rich kids turned into Lord of the Flies and started stealing from each other when things got bad.

    I'm totally with Humberto-- everyone is all about partying and camping but I'm just not a camper-- I hate camping, I hate complicated travel arrangements, and most of all I hate travel arrangements where I'm beholden to some schedule. Golden.

    I have the opposite of FOMO. LOMO? Love of missing out. I know how to have fun wherever I am at in the moment.

    That's what's so sad about being manipulated by a narcissist. If you grew up having you boundaries violated another person will recognize it if you haven't built boundaries as an adult. I keep hearing, they knew this was bad and could have backed out, but psychological manipulation is rarely that simple. Logic like that has been used on abuse victims for so long and people are recognizing that people don't really have as much choice as it seems when they are being backed into a psychological corner. I've been on the receiving end of abuse at some point I knew in the back of my mind that it was abuse and I wasn't able to separate from my abuser until someone else recognized it and helped me get out. I think that my situation parallels a lot of people who weren't leaving Billy and the Fyre festival before it was too late....well at least a few of them. I take responsibility for building up my boundaries after not knowing I had a problem with that and hopefully those who were taken advantage of/manipulated will learn too.

    I honestly did not connect Psychology in Seattle with Sleepless in Seattle. You’re a psychologist from Seattle. That’s exactly how I understood the title.

    I felt worst for the workers and the smaller contractors. In the doc there was a woman who had to use all her savings and take out loans to pay her employees. She showed more empathy and responsibility even though she was taken advantage of - she knew it wasn't right to leave them hanging. A better response from the attendees would be to use the media attention to fundraise for those workers. Yeah you lost a thousands but clearly you've got some level of privilege to spend that kind of money.

  • @annadaae26

    Most of the people who attended paid about $500 per person as general admission, which they claimed sold out so they could sell at a higher price point because it wasn't making enough money. The rest were influencers who paid nothing to attend. I don't think anyone paid the high price point.

    I heard people arguing about which Fyre documentary was more ethical: Hulu or Netflix. From this episode, I learned that the Netflix one benefitted the perpetrators, and the Hulu one paid over 250,000 for the interview they did with Billy McFarland. I haven't watched either one of them yet, and am glad I listened to this first!

    • @rubym357
      @rubym357 5 років тому +1

      Where did you hear that McFarland was paid? He was convicted and therefore prohibited from making money from his crime. The Netflix doc was produced with Vice and the Fuck Jerry media company because Oren.aks was accused by his former business partners of lying about their role in promoting the fraud. In the Hulu doc Oren.aks demonstrated that Fuck Jerry didn't do their due diligence to stop the promotion. If they did a 5 minute search they would've found the venture capitalist's Fyre Fraud Twitter who was doxxing the festival the whole time and they would've found out that he stopped a $90 mil investment from Comcast into the Fyre App.

    Psychology in Seattle is very appropriate. In the movie's opening scene, it was the psychologist on the radio that hooked up the two protagonists. :D

    The DJ thing is so popular because people look at those guys and on some level know that they could do it. They see themselves as the DJ.
    When John 5 starts playing, there’s no way in heaven or earth with a gun to my head I will ever do that. I appreciate musicians far more.

    Instead of someone being so abused that they develop that denial reflex, couldn’t it also be true that someone has lived such a sheltered life away from consequences that denial is proof of their overwhelming inflated ego?

    The only reason their marketing worked is because they promised outside of this world accommodations where as other concerts can't just promise shit that doesn't exist

  • @CARATMom
    @CARATMom 4 роки тому +1

    Sesame Street lessons were based on the concept of marketing letters and numbers to kids. All the little cartoons were essentially “commercials” of the alphabet. That is why each episode ended with “today’s episode was brought to you by the letter A”. We were marketed to at a very early age.

    I went to this amazing festival in nz called (i think) area 9, the line up was incredible, all the best acts in the country. Was an absolute blast but the organizers did their sums really badly and I think a lot of the acts didn’t get paid in the end. The fyre festival story is crazy 😬

    to the prices: i don't know how it works in america, but here in switzerland, students work and then spend money for 200 $ festivals, vacations, etc. i also don't think most of the offers for the fyre festival (if they would have existed) would be for rich kids only, most seems to be pretty middle class. Afordable for everybody without 50k of student's debt. i'm pretty sure nobody booked the real expensive stuff.

    I gotta say........ I listen to a couple of short psychologist based podcast, I have to say, the catchy name is largely why I choose yours to binge listen to, so I’m not sure I’d apologize. And I did think it was double layered and didn’t feel it was supporting that the movie was a strong representation of any similarity. Just a catchy remembrance. Maybe it’s not that deep bro. Enjoy listening tho.

    If I had known that the Name was not about the movie I might have clicked years not weeks ago. Because I thought it was cheesy af. And I don’t trust cheesy for the very reasons nobody should have trusted in FYRE. I am so sorry.
    On the other hand I am from Berlin, so there are really worse cliches people can have about your home than a Tom Hanks movie, coffee, IT and Grunge.
