I had great result in two consecutives tournaments, I finished 3rd ( 3 victory, 22 players) and 1st( 28 players) with Vampire count triple shout. It's a specfic playstyle you need to be able to counter to.
I'd say the things you probably have to be able to handle in some capacity for a "take all comers" list are: •A dragon (or equivalent) •3 war machines •Heavy cavalry •A block of 30 elite infantry with a character in them •A level 4 and 2 level 2 wizards •A small unit that's immune to nonmagical attacks There are other things, but they're more niche and specialised so I wouldn't consider them "take all comers".
@@IVIaskerade I didn’t list the mass Warmachines (as I don’t think 3 is massively OTT) but should have really thought about the big block and the Ethereal units. I recently amended my Elf List to change the Lance on my Prince to a Sword or Might for that specific reason.
@@liamjordan3596 Yeah, while Tomb Banshees are the current meta for VC I personally much prefer cairn wraiths because they're much cooler, and if you've build a defensively-tooled hero with just a great weapon or lance (like a black orc on wyvern) it can often just be untouchable and leave the enemy relying on combat res. I didn't say more than 3 war machines because I'd start considering that a skew list, similar to how I only said 1 dragon even though some armies like elves or orcs or VC can bring 2. 3 machines is reasonable for a lot of armies to bring without having to lean fully into gunlines, so it's something to consider.
Probably not a good idea to take the game so serious that you call yourself a "competetive gamer". It is not that balanced, not even close.. Chill, have abeer, get some interactive story done. Playing any GW game "competetively" just shows your life is empty with no meaningful addition to society..
Competitive doesn't have to be a bad thing. What I tried to get across was that it's all about that expectation with who you're gaming with (with, not against). I've got friend groups where we are competitive and play to win when we play board games but within the right spirit, but when I'm playing D&D with a different group of friends it's about the story and the journey not about just killing the BBEG. Games are what you want them to be and what you make of them.
I agree with Liam! Being competitive just means you enjoy the puzzle of making good decisions in list building and at the table with a goal of trying to win. It doesn’t mean you think there’s no luck or that the game is perfectly balanced.
Would you say that Chess players who are competitive and possibly become grandmasters “have no life”? Would you say that competitive golfers “have no life”? Perhaps we can honestly conclude that your passions in life are different than other people’s passions. Life is what we make it, and some people enjoy excelling at certain games (like TOW) more than others, and if the objective of life is to be as happy as possible, then competitive war gaming is and has been a viable option for tons of blokes. 😊
This is so pertinent to me right now, many thanks Gents 👏👏👏
You are very welcome! Thanks for watching the show :)

This is great timing - just at the point of identifying a new list and just going round in circles
Thanks for watching! Glad you found it useful :)
The Lord of the rings quote, that likely inspired your friend, is ‘what can men do against such reckless hate?’
Hahaha brilliant! It still makes me chuckle when I think about it. Thanks for watching :)
Great run down.
Although it’s difficult to make a list that handles everything (monster/MI/Magic/Hordes) 😳
Agree! Definitely things to have on your mind though. Thanks for watching the show :)

Good insights! Thanks for watching :)

Yes Sir! 😎
Broken Brets Flying Circle is the most broken list to build for, typical dodgy OP garbage GW lets through when selling models
It does seem pretty strong! Not sure its broken though, win rates are not too wild are they?

@@mrsnakesmrnot8499 Chess is COMPLETELY different than made up, arbitrary rules. If you don´t get that, you are just dumb.

Haha. Your answer was alot more polite than the snarky one I was about to type 😅
