The Ape is one of the only vehicles that comes with rust straight from the factory ;) We had one at work as well as a promo vehicle. A coworker and I changed out the cylinder with an online tutorial to increase the top speed a bit. Great fun
I think it would be more of a challenge to drive in scotland rather than to it. The roads are crap and full of potholes, the roads in Fife where i live are probably the worst in scotland. It will get stuck in a pothole LOL. Rumour has it if you look into a Fife pothole you will see an Australian peering back up.
Ah, the sound of Sicily in the heat in the afternoon after siesta! Just need the cicadas amd heat now and I’m back in Siracusa again. Wonderful piece of engineering making it’s way through the narrow cobbles. Great vid, thanks!
Ha - loved the drive - reminded me of the experience I have driving my grandfather’s 1932 BSA FW32 car. About 12bhp, 3 forward gears (no synchro), no mirrors, brake and accelerator pedals swapped positions - and LOADS of attention and a riot to drive.
Thanks, I have seen young Italians racing these things around a car park on 2 wheels. Not really a properTuk Tuk, but very interesing vehicle. I have done many miles in India in a Tuk Tuk, in Delhi they were converted to run on CNG, compressed natural gas, to reduce pollution.
It is not a tuk-tuk. It is an Piaggio Ape. I had a P2. That was bigger. A 2 seater with a 4 on the floor, 350 cc, normal steering wheel and it did 70 kph. LOL.going in 2nd in reverse was scary ( 35-40 kph ). Lots of fun in that old pickup. The 5 grand you paid is a lot though.
Paint it Black & Orange.... Use it as an Advertising vehicle around town, with your logo on the sides. Perhaps hand out free High Peak stickers to children.
Matt, I was convinced you would have moved to my old home town of Wilmslow or Mobberley way. I had never heard of Compstall, sorry about that. After that great Vlog I should think the house prices have rocketed. I'm happy living down here near Biarritz but you did Compstall proud. Well done again mate, pleasure plus.
Absolutely brilliant and funny vid Matt. On biz trips to Far East and India my workmate and I used to do Tut Tut racing paying the driver increasingly more amounts of money to go faster, great fun. A minor point I would have painted the front grey mudguard the same body colour Postman red as rest of vehicle though.
Creaking video, Matt (haha). Was the music Madonna singing Materia Girl? So good to see a modern man putting in a key into a lock to open a car. Brilliant vehicle, a whole Italian family would travel in one of these. I have been following them for years. Such a lot of capacity for so little power. Takeoff is like the countdown to a spaceship launch. Marvellous video. Great to see these being driven in the UK. The speeds you are going, it must be like driving in London. Pulling over to let that van past might have been a nice thing to do. Well done.
You should see can you get an electric enclosed adult trike next. Great little machine's. I have one, and it goes a lot faster than 8mph, lol. Much more comfy, too, and better equipped.
You need a 12v electric fan to help air circulation. I live in the Philippines and have a similar tuk-tuk truck based on a 200cc motor bike with a flat bed. I use it for hauling soil, gravel, etc around the grounds ( 1.5 acres) and collecting the papaya, mangos etc at home. A very useful work horse.
You purchased it because it is quirky and can be useful at festivals etc etc I think its a fun vehicle gear cables probably need adjustment reminds me of my youth and my passion for Lambretta's
That was a really cool review. I think if they offered one slightly larger and with a steering wheel and proper gear shifter and pedals, it would make an excellent city vehicle.
Matt, thank you SO much for this. After the day I've had this was just what I needed. 0 to 60 mph? You have got to be joking! Lol. It's not very often one encounters a vehicle louder and slower than a Citroen 2CV but I think we have it here! Delightfully hilarious!
Wonderful modern classic which I have seen in many cities, usually as a coffee van. Also for ice cream and even for its original purpose as a delivery van. The coffee van in Saarbrucken beat them all by having a black matching model of itself on the table alongside.
Great video. He reminds me of the Inspector Clouseau car where he's trying to get information, but his brakes fail, and he rolls backwards into a swimming pool
you can double its value if you fill the jerry can up LOL.........the van driver behind thought you were full of alcoholic slush when trying gearchanges :)
So cool !!!!!!!!! I remember riding on the back of one of these in mountains of Northern Italy. Now you can offer highpeak coffee on the move. Best vehicle I've seen you review.
Absolutely brilliant ,this must be the best " post " you have done.I thought that van that was following you was the backup support for you carrying all the necessary gear to keep you going in case of any mechanical problems on you trial run. Also, the scenery was good and made a change from your normal locations. Well done for an enjoyable post.
You never fail to entertain, Matt. Postman Matt, you ain't. As a regular visitor to India where I see these all the time, it's strange for one to be on British roads. In case you wanted a BEV, there is actually an electric motor variant of these.
They used to have something similar here in the UK but they were banned by the UK government because of the massive amount of pollution from the two stroke engines
Its just a proper geared Vespa but with three wheels. Vespa = Wasp, Ape = Bee. They race these too. Cross country as well as tracks. I was a driver when they were run like buses in Brighton. You can get them up on two wheels easily without rolling them once you get the hang of it!
So picturesque, I am actually going to harrypotterland, sorry England in a couple of weeks. I think I am gonna buy some every flavored beans, they are real, they do have them.
We have one at work as stone masons it’s fantastic going round church yards and cemeteries fitting head stone’s as bigger vehicles can’t get keep it on your car pitch attract customers 😊
In Denmark very popular, no driving licence just insurance, 15-17 year olds (first experience of driving after driven a scooter) and Those that have lost licence ( older blokes/age or too many fizzy drinks when driving)
Good morning matt, great video very funny these are quite terrifying to drive and as a passenger I used to work in Brighton and they had them near as taxes for a few years but a band them eventually because they were so dangerous, good luck with a sale I'm sure someone will buy it very quickly cheers Phil from Newark
My mate bought one. He lives at the bottom of a looooong hill. The sort push-bikers have to take a big breath and change down several gears for. The Ape only just made it to the top, completely unloaded. It's the only vehicle he actually made a (small) loss on!
Matt, I think that was worth buying for views alone 😅 I can think of so many uses. I only live round the corner from work. UBER eats in my spare time. Coffee van business. Just brilliant. While I'm doing all that, I can advertise different businesses, as it gets so much attention! I think I could get at least 20mph on roads of Preston 😂
Did you have a 'lead' vehicle and a 'recovery' one too with the Renault Traffic 'tailing you'? 😄 You drove it very well considering the temperature where it was 30 degrees outside and 90 degrees inside. No need for new reg plates or a headlamp buff, just some upholstery attention and your trusty mechanics 'once over'. Too much fun for one man alone 😁
Very happy cars, and highly unstable! I've driven an EV converted version of these on several occasion for promotional work for local events. Electric drive is slightly more comfortable, but the drivetrain doesn't fix anything to the suspension and cabin. Still, highly recommended to drive at least once if you have rhe chance!
Was in Sri Lanka in February and used the Tuk Tuk taxis to get around the locale. It is an ‘experience’ not to be missed especially as they don’t appear to bother with a Highway Code.
Welcome to the new High peaks courtesy car 🤣
With the current economic woes,
This is soon to be
DELUXE 👍😊🤔
😂😂😂
😂
Perfect replacement for the little chevrolet spark 😂
@@rickreese5794 hahahah "due to budget restrictions, it's this or a bus pass"

I know who should buy this.... Pete And His Bus 😂😂
Matt forgot! Normally he's a lot more responsible than that. I'm shocked! 😮
It came in as a Limo Cadillac.
That Vivaro driver behind you had the patience of a saint 😂
He was trying to buy an alcoholic slush 😅
That was his brother folks
@@lennartengel1971 no, his brother was driving the BMW in front lol
😂😂😂😂
Plot twist; he bought it just to keep it off the road.
The Ape is one of the only vehicles that comes with rust straight from the factory ;) We had one at work as well as a promo vehicle. A coworker and I changed out the cylinder with an online tutorial to increase the top speed a bit. Great fun
Funniest one yet. Excellent. Laughed out loud when you pointed out it didn't have a reversing camera.
I think a challenge drive to Scotland is on the cards with this one!
What about a nice drive to its home country Italy? That would be a blast! ;-)
More chance with an Invocar LOL
In reverse gear ...
This must be the funniest High Peak video so far. I wonder what tires are on it, Pirelli all around, or Landsail?
At least they'll be matching on the front!
😂
"We're flying now, doing 11mph" 🤣
Ah, the sound of Sicily in the heat in the afternoon after siesta!
Just need the cicadas amd heat now and I’m back in Siracusa again.
Wonderful piece of engineering making it’s way through the narrow cobbles.
Great vid, thanks!
A Tuk-tuk??? Matt is on spending spree here!
Speed. Not a tuk-tuk mate. Peugeot.
A tuk-tuk? I swear I've never click on a notification so fast 😂
I worked for the co-op in the late 60s in Northumberland and they were known there as Daleks.
Should change the sign writing to Royal Snail 😅
There's a guy with an old escort van with sierra cosworth running gear and about 600hp with that livery on it 😂
I wasn't expecting you to buy one of _those_
Next week: Matt buys a Horse & Buggy.
Watch as he tries to figure out how to check the engine! 😆
"Postman Matt, Postman Matt, Postman Matt and his black and white cat!" Lol😂
Saw the notification, Matt driving a Tuk Tuk was all it took 😂
*it was all it took took
All it took took!!
No buffing out required, no new number plates, no expensive garage bill and no massive overspend!!! Now there's a rare thing. Great video, thanks.

Hi Matt well done on this one you choose the right roads to show it,s top speed . Well done profit in this one defo

Love this 😀 i could use this for my window cleaning business but put me ladders on and reach and think might stuggle to move it 😂😂. Great coffee van 😀

I lived in Ibiza for 20 years and it was quite a 'normal' vehicle for people to move around in. But nevertheless it made me smile to see one again
Good drive.
When stepping down gears to slow down, you need never go back to first gear.
You should see can you get an electric enclosed adult trike next. Great little machine's. I have one, and it goes a lot faster than 8mph, lol. Much more comfy, too, and better equipped.
Sounds like my R reg piaggio zip I had when i was 16. That was a speedy ped. Brings back good memories.
There was a brief trend late 00s these were used as taxis in town centres to get you from pub to pub.
Just out of interest you might want to consider changing the colour on the V5 as it's coming up on vehicle check as 'green'👍🏻😉
It sounds like a two stroke engine-so don't forget it has to have 2stroke mixture for the fuel. 😉
Matt another weird and wacky video. Always entertaining buddy 👌👍
Thanks 👍 I try

In Denmark it's full of them, driving as coffe-machines. And yes, they are wonderfull small smile'baskets.
A roadtrip back to Piaggio factory in Italy🤔....maybe🤣🤣
12:48 -- Nice homage to the (arguably) last of the old-school entertainers, "The Chuckle Brothers"... I miss them...
Brilliant! That was a bit like Matt’s first driving lesson 😂. To be fair, I’ve never seen you smile so much on a test drive 😃
Great video. He reminds me of the Inspector Clouseau car where he's trying to get information, but his brakes fail, and he rolls backwards into a swimming pool
Nice, now you have a suitable replacement for your Range Rover that has indian roots as well.
😂😂😂😂
😅👍
A win win for Mat then
Piaggio is Italian. I don't get the Indian part of it.
you can double its value if you fill the jerry can up LOL.........the van driver behind thought you were full of alcoholic slush when trying gearchanges :)
I had one of these a few years back, it was a 50cc fitted with an 80cc kit. It looked great, but was too small really. It sold easily though.
Thank you for showcasing this vehicle!
They are basically a vespa van they have a 2 stroke engine like a vespa .. you get used to the gear change ..I had vespas 40 years I love it
There’s a company in Birmingham that does taxi rides in tuc tucs it’s great! You should keep this!
I've always wanted one of these, but they are too expensive and niece in UK. I think they are amazing though.
I just tuned in. Matt, you've finally gone crazy! Love it!
The Tuk Tuk is Matt’s new company vehicle!!! Low on fuel, low tax and typical self-deprecating style….❤
So cool !!!!!!!!! I remember riding on the back of one of these in mountains of Northern Italy. Now you can offer highpeak coffee on the move. Best vehicle I've seen you review.
the smile on your face has never been better! Your kind of vehicle for sure....................
The smile on your face was well worth it.
It's certainly has a lot of character the tuk- tuk.👍👌🤩 Yeah it could turn it into electric power, but I doubt if it would be cheap to convert though.
A great replacement for your Range Rover daily driver. Perfect for the John O' Groats run.
Can the NCAP safety rating people award minus stars!? Love it🤓
Looking forward to the 'I'm going to drive this one down to Spain' video already

Great strategy, saying yes to everything. And if it does all go wrong you can get a job with Delmonte!

How would you see this Italian thing in India? This is not a tuk-tuk.
They used to have something similar here in the UK but they were banned by the UK government because of the massive amount of pollution from the two stroke engines
I believe current generation apes use four-stroke for that reason now…
I'm Italian but I live in the UK since 2017, unbelievable how this things are overly priced here, on top of the list the ape 50 cross..
Its just a proper geared Vespa but with three wheels. Vespa = Wasp, Ape = Bee. They race these too. Cross country as well as tracks. I was a driver when they were run like buses in Brighton. You can get them up on two wheels easily without rolling them once you get the hang of it!

awesome video, they race them in Italy, Guy Martin did one up and went put an had a go

Very sadly it reminds me of my first car; a Fiat 126. That front end ... Anyway, great video, thanks for sharing and good luck selling it 👍😎😊
Yes but can you pull a wheelie in it? Amazingly you can get Ape camper van conversions. Next a G Whizz?

I really did not expect this today 🤣. These are so rare in the UK, you're the first channel I've seen with one!
I never realised they existed outside India.
there’s a bloke on youtube in the UK which swapped the engine in one of these with a 180bhp suzuki haysbusa superbike engine! road legal as well
So cool. Thoroughly enjoyed this video. Have a good week. Marc from Australia 🇦🇺
ZZR , Blackbird or Busa engine is needed for this 🙂
Park it next to the Wondergrip van and let's see what happens. Could be a wonderful romance 😂.
