    Thanks for not being long-winded. When novices get into scanning pix and negatives, they don't want to hear a lot of "filler" conversation... they just want instructions. You accomplished that. The only suggestion I would make is to add a little time to tell viewers whether any picture/negative software is included with the scanner program, and if not, which ones they can obtain without shelling out a lot of $$. Thanks again.

      That was actually going to be my question. What software is included with the scanner, and in what format (digital download, disc, etc). Unfortunately, my local photo store I've been going to for over a decade will be closing, so I'm going to be scanning my own negatives now.

      @gregorycosta1043 I just bought this scanner last week, and it was used. Therefore, I didn't receive any software or instructions. But all I did was Google "Epson v600 drivers" and the first option will take you to their website, and just install the single file. Run the file and it will look like what's in the video!

    Thanks for the refresher! It's been 2 years since I've used my scanner and the first time I've tried scanning negatives. I'm running 3 minutes per neg, 24 minutes for 8 just as you reported. If I had a giant stack of them, I'd upgrade my setup to camera scanning in a flash. To speed up the process, I bought an extra film guide online so I can load the next strips and blow the dust off them while these are scanning.

      If you have a clear strip of 35mm film, put that in the holder and put the 110 film on top of that. You'll have to use the "normal" tab in the preview window and scan it as all one image, then crop it into individual images. That's what I do with my 120 negatives, because it scans them as rectangles and not as square images. I can't guarantee that will work, but that's what I would do.

There are other sizes of negatives besides 35mm and 120. Some of my old ones are on a type of film that only had holes on one side, but I don't know what that's called. I guess I'll have to start by finding out what size that is. I always thought it was 35mm, since they were taken on an old Minolta. Apparently I was wrong.

      When you do the preview scan, there are two tabs at the top of that window. One is called "normal" and the other one is... well, I forget, and I'm not in front of that computer. The normal tab scans as one big image, the other as individuals.
      Edit: the tab is, ironically enough, "Thumbnail."

      Check the settings for zoom are on normal. Top of the page..... handy if you want a close up view with different settings.

      Sorry, but I haven’t scanned using the Epson for a long time now. Sometimes OS refreshes render perfectly good equipment unusable due to driver incompatibility.

      I've just bought an Epson V600 which works fine with Windows 10.
      I installed the Epson software from disk 2009....... and then downloaded the free Silverfast 9 which is bundled with the scanner.
      Excellent stuff so far with very good scans of negatives and photographs as well as slides.

    Emulsion side up or emulsion side down? At the very moment he placed the film he went silent.

      Check the numbers on the edge of the negative - they should be the right way round when you look down on the scanner.

    24 minutes to scan a strip of negatives?

    • @threeminutepro
      @threeminutepro  10 місяців тому

      Yeah, that’s why I don’t do this any more. Light box and DSLR with macro lens, or just pay a lab to scan it (prices are much cheaper than they used to be these days)

    • @fabianmckenna8197
      @fabianmckenna8197 4 місяці тому

      Wow, 24 minutes.........
      I'm using Silverfast 9 which came bundled with my Epson V600 (download) and been scanning 120 film three at a time with no lengthy waits.

      I think that is the Digital ICE doing multiple scans to find an remove the dust and scratches. That is still faster than I can do it in Photoshop.

    Good tips, but this is a video about "advanced tips for scanners" and not "how to get started as a beginner."
