He played all the sonatas since he was a child. I'm sure he was everytime in his life able to play each one of the 32 masterpieces. No wonder why he's still one of the best players out there.
Just keep working on it. It will take a lot of time, but it's worth it. Things that are really worth it don't come that easily. Keep believing in yourself. And no matter what others say, chase your dreams. Don't let your dreams chase you :)
Just rmb how much time beethoven spent writing this sonata. Then you'll feel worthwhile spending more time practicing even if its one more measure of the waldstein.

I'm happy with it because it developed my skills for other songs like waldstein sonata which I can happily say is 'easy' for me because I'd already conquered a much harder challenge. So your measurement is incorrect and if you have the time and patience you can play anything no matter your skill
Barenboim plays Beethoven like it should be played. Every note is crystal clear and has it's own dynamic. He has spent years perfecting his touch. He might not be the fastest player, but every note is heard and played perfectly that is the most important thing

Art isn't a matter of knowledge and ignorance; it's a matter of preferential discernment. Live and let live. Valentina Lisitsa is well-known for good reason, as is Barenboim. You have every right to believe that Barenboim's interpretation is more appropriate, just make sure
once you get to a certain skill level, no one is really any better then anyone else. at that point it all comes down to taste. there is some objectivity though, if you're that good you are not "crap" by any but troll standards.

Not until Liszt and Mendelsohn insisted, did performers play only what was on the page (actually written by the composer), Performers in Beethoven's era took great latitude with their performances of works, especially solo works. So the Barenboim performance is certainly within the realm of possibilities, though I suspect there were many more "liberties" taken by Beethoven's contemporaries.
I can't be certain, but it looks like he's in the Schauspielhaus, the old opera house that is located just off Unter den Linden, on the Gendarmenmarkt. The light fixtures are identical to those found there. The view of the room looks a bit like it...a rather small orchestra seating area and full boxes. Without more light it's really hard to tell though. I really can't be certain though.
Art is a subjective medium. You can cry "Barenboim is better" to the mountain tops, and still your comment will only bear subjective meaning. You should not demean the opinions of others, nor should you disparage the remarkable skill of a virtuoso pianist. I can respect that you think Barenboim is better (I have no opinion on who is better), but I'm just imploring you to treat your opinion AS AN OPINION and not dismiss the preferences of others.

i agree with pianistII i find his Waldstein very scholar. I wouls say there's nothing inside. Horowitz one is the finest Waldstein i've ever heard though it may not really fit with beethoven's will. but what he adds inside is in such an harmony witn the text that i would say both were made to meet somewhere .
The Schauspielhaus is called now Konzerthaus, and it's not this for sure. Maybe it's the Staatsoper - which is Unter den Linden (Gendarmenmarkt/Konzerthaus is other place, but quite near). The more I think about, the more I'm sure it's Staatsoper, because D.B. is chiefconductor of Staatsoper. So he's able to "use" it for solo concerts...

Well I guess everybody has something that they're better at. Some Lisitsa's Beethoven are pretty good. You can't compare an 80 years old with a 30 years old.
i can't say which one is the best version of a piece.... some say there is good and bad, now, i 'm used to saying there's the one i love and the rest . I know horowitz's one is not the reflect of Beethoven's musical intentions . i find nothing brilliant in Barenboim 's one :(
Without getting into the whole "who can play better than whom" debate, I think that the thing Barenboim carries to Beethoven is an air of authority and deep knowledge. This is hard for the youngsters out of some music academy, or the Asian technical freaks, to emulate. It takes some years under your belt, so to speak. I'll wager that Barenboim approaches these pieces much differently now than as a teenage whiz-kid in the 1950s.
Gorgeous performance. Barenboim has one of the best interpretations of Beethoven I've heard.

Man I love piano, I wish I could play all of beethoven's songs but theres just too many, this guy is a genuis, makes absolutely brilliant songs.

I prefer Claudio Arrau's performance/interpretation of the Waldstein.
He gets it. This is the best interpretation of the Waldstein sonata that I've ever heard.
