Jon... Indirect fire is aiming and firing a projectile without relying on a direct line of sight between the weapon and its target, as in the case of direct fire. Aiming is performed by calculating azimuth and elevation angles, and may include correcting aim by observing the fall of shot and calculating new angles.
I get the logistics but he generally means indirectly engaged with the enemy unit in question. Directly for him would be going toe to toe with each other.
Portugal and Spain are like, "Forget all that Reconquista business, we'll leave Iberia under UN control and take Normandy instead." Gotta love the campaign AI. Ignoring mandatory short-term victory conditions to do whatever it wants.
There are some who are surely wondering what is taking the Horde so long. See, we Mongolians follow an ancient tradition of only travelling two times a week, and resting the other five days. Thanks to @Cameron Miles and @Archdeacon Niels makes sense! Silly infidels couldn't even convert their own country before Admiral Jon got to them first
Archdeacon Niels I don't know, does Dongola start as a majority Christian town? If not it could be that the 10% orthodox Christianity is meant to represent coptic minorities that existed in parts of the Islamic world and correct me if I'm wrong but isn't Dongola to far north to be Sudan.
*Walks into room* You know, I had the strangest dream. I said some odd things, strange things for a pope to say. Anyways, I made breakfast. Some Belgian waffles with Cherry Coke Zero.
Started playing Rome for the first time last week and Jon is absolutely right about the economy in the game - it's SO easy to make money that it can be hard to manage.
I'd love to see Jon play DiRT Rally, the man who does not understand cars playing a very realistic rally sim sounds like my kind of evening. I bet he won't even Finnish a race.
You always lament that Medieval 2's battlespeeches are lame in comaprisone to Rome's, so I thought I'd try and compensate. 36:30 Battle speech of Boleslaw the Merciless, translated from the Chronica Danimarcae. Today we face the biggest army Russia has ever musterd against us: a great host of archers and horsemen to rain arrows on our ranks; but don't let they intimidate you! I have never lost a battle against these people, and I know that you are peerless in face to face combat: give it your all, and no amount of arrows will be able to stand against you axes! Be fast and merciless my braves: the Hour of Vengeance has come!
Jon for the love of god get around to replacing all your crusade mercenarys with your own troops, they are probably the only reason your economy is so shit. Their upkeep is insane
Jon, are you familiar with the "tactic" of leaving then rejoining a crusade? For the first 10 turns of a crusade, armies joining the crusade won't start deserting regardless of what you do. It's a little exploity, but it can be abused to conquer multiple territories on the way to the target. Leaving the crusade early usually lowers quality of the general's + Chivalry traits, and it looks like Boleslaw Herman might have a few that are hamstringing his Dread rating.
hi there john I'm the guy who suggested stacking the atronarch stone with dragonskin on your skyrim video and I am back again to tell you another us full thing about a game. for you see the most efficient way to rid yourself of pesky horsearchers is to bring long range archer units and position them on a higher piece of ground and letting them come to you your increased range allows you to get the first volley of wich on horses will probably kill up to 40 % of their unit making them do less damage in the continued skirmish( bringing more archers then their horse archers also helps) seeing how your playing Denmark the mercenary crossbow would be a good choice or Armenian archers while making a stroll trough the holy lands. trust me when the Turks get angry (wich is inevitable)you want to have Armenian archers otherwise the siphais will haunt your nightmares and melt away your entire armies.
I must admit that ive never used gunpowder in my camapigns before. i always imediatly start crushing my enemies and finnish my camapaigns around turn 90 (long campaign so i dont know how good cossacks are) the only thing i do know is that having sipahis when playing the turks can make you the god of any battle the only competiton you have are mongol heavy arhers wich are almost the same but with slightly less armour and fighting the turks is afucking nightmare when your denmark even though heavy infanry saves the day most of the time. their archers are absolute garbage but a system like you are suggesting would only work with levy troops you most likly cant replicate elite units maybe like when you quonqer the turks you can get turkish archers in turkish areas or levy vikings in denmark( they would also have to have a little bit worse stats then the original cuz subjigated troops wont be that enthousiastic to fight as slave warriors
I thought they wouldn't do that much when I got them, but about 5 units of them got isolated and they managed to hold the line pretty effectively against the Milanese. They have a really high attack (both missile and melee) the problem is that they have town militia style defense. Still though, when it comes to Mongols you're right, they aren't going to do that well.
Why the hell the Portuguese are attacking the English?? Who designed the AI and the initial conditions?? Historically we are allies with the English, they helped with the conquest of Lisbon in 1147 and they are officially allies since 1373, the oldest alliance still enforced today. So WTH????? Besides France is a traditional ally of Castille and then Spain, they were usually our enemy, right up till the Peninsular War during the Napoleonic era...

The Corkscrew maneuver is a Danish tactic designed to push enemy units off of hills or other strategic locations. It works by taking advantage of common tactics of the time, which required armies to face each other and stare menacingly.
Jon, I've never played Total War and picked this game up on sale. Started as England ( in honor of MATN ) and within 30 turns France decided to attack me at Caen, along with their allies the Imperials and Denmark....
Boleslaw Herman's army was much, much faster than Captain Nikita's, and would have sacked Moscow long before the ballistae could have arrived. A sally battle in the inevitable follow-up attack would've taken out Nikita's flimsy force.
It's been the right time to attack Jerusalem for like 10 parts 😂 Egypt could've been wiped out by now and you could be contemplating fighting turkey and connecting the empire by now

I disagree with RTW's economy being broken. Back in that day, there were still resources to exploit, so wealth was arguably easier to come by. Plus, if your empire was wealthy, its generals and governors would devolve into madness and corruption, which I felt made a decent balance.

The Ky Guy Dongola is near where Nubia was, the Nubians were coptic christians which is very similar to orthodox Christianity.
That just means that Muslims tried converting Dongola. Islam never reached Sudan in a meaningful sense until the Middle Ages ended
