    Out of all the categories at the Dakar, the truck class has to be the most spectacular. The Kamaz Master truck is one of the frontrunners, and it’s like nothing else we’ve ever seen.
    Everything about the Kamaz truck is big. Take those huge wheels - they weigh a colossal 150kg each, turning even relatively simple tasks like changing a wheel into something a lot more demanding. Overall, the Kamaz weighs in at 9.5 tons, but unlike regular trucks, it also boasts an ideal 50:50 weight distribution, which is perfect for handling.

    Drum brakes do not dissipate heat faster than disc brakes! Drum brakes dissipate heat much slower than disc brakes, they can, however be more powerfull for a given diameter as they have much more braking surface area than a disc.

      I was a bit confused, cause I always thought that disc brakes dissipate heat faster.
      I can't say for sure though, if it is easier to change the brake shoes on a drum, than the pads on a disc.

    • @nickd698
      @nickd698 2 роки тому +5

      @@blitzcraig26 definetely not, its much easier to change pads on a disc. Like I said there is much more braking force on a drum for a given diameter than a disc. think about the size of the area of a drum shoe compared to a disc pad. With the depth of the sidewall on the tyres that they run, the wheel diameter is quite small, therefore they can't run a large disc. also the braking force on a drum brake is maximised at the outside diameter of the drum minus the thickness of the drum, whereas a disc shares the load more towards the centre therefore creating less leverage and less brake force.

    • @RhumRunner41
      @RhumRunner41 2 роки тому +8

      The disk brake needs to be much bigger to equate the same breaking power as a drum. Besides, drum offers more protection from sand infiltration than disk. Nothing worst than slamming on the brakes and the wheels keep turning because the sand act like tiny ball bearings.

    • @imchris5000
      @imchris5000 Рік тому +2

      its more of a translation issue. the drums do loose heat faster than a disc that would be required for that size of truck, the drum brakes have to do much less work so they generate less heat

    Darn it what is he talking about. The Air Intake is at the top on any Onroad and Offroad Truck. The Fuel Tank are always on the side and as low as possible. Discbrakes get rid of the heat way better than drumbrakes. Here the reason is the sand. And Its not a engineer but a mechanic.

    • @theCrazyFrenchGuys
      @theCrazyFrenchGuys 3 роки тому +39

      drum brakes on a truck are often better in offroad conditions,they are more reliable, more brake pad surface, no direct contact with stone sand and rocks, easy to change, and virtually indestructible,and a truck wheel spin a lot slower than a car.

    Why does Dakar rally cars/trucks most likely to use dual coilovers while ultra4/ trophy trucks use coilover with bypass? Is there any advantages to have one extra coilover instead of a bypass shock?

    • @user-oi2im7tt2t
      @user-oi2im7tt2t 5 місяців тому

      In short, Dakar rally cars/trucks typically use dual coilovers because they prioritize durability and simplicity for the long and diverse terrains of the Dakar Rally. On the other hand, ultra4 and trophy trucks use coilovers with bypass shocks for more precise control over suspension damping. This setup allows them to adapt to the varied conditions encountered in off-road racing, providing better performance in terms of handling and stability.

      Let me help you; drum brakes are far less efficient than disc brakes and brakes are more efficient when the generate less heat and dissipate more heat....therefore, drum brakes aren’t better.

      @@MrPaukann They need a lot of torque, not a lot of HP, which is why you don't see trucks (or any large vehicles) with small high revving turbo engines, they all have big diesels, big horse power numbers are just to impress people in headlines.

      @@popuptoaster, do actually know what hp is? Think about what it is. You are just reciting the same oversimplistic statement. Why would they need torque if they don't need power?

    • @popuptoaster
      @popuptoaster 3 роки тому

      @@MrPaukann Torque is a true measure of the amount of twisting force an engine can apply to it's crankshaft, HP is just a number to impress people, you are being confused by the different ways engine output is measured.
      A high horsepower, low torque engine would need to rev really high and need a gearbox wiith a LOT of gears in it to move a heavy vehicle, Japanese sports bikes or formula 1 engines are usually high horsepower, low torque because they only have to move a small amount of weight.
      Horsepower figures just make good headlines and as my original post points out 1000+ horsepower is not that special these days, but these trucks put out 4000nm of torque, which is why they are 100mph+ vehicles.
