Really good video! Been playing with candy for a while now, and I can only agree, the ground coat is everything when it comes to candy. It's like it's completely different colors depending on what you spray it over. I completed a bike the other day for a friend after a lot of testing of different mixes. Ended up with Sealer Black, then 2 coats of Cosmic Sparkle Autumn Red, followed by Candy2o Brandywine mixed 4:1 with 4050 UVLS Gloss. (of course 1 part candy to 4 parts 4050) On top, 2k clear and some cut n buff. It came out awesome and my friend is reeealy happy, thanks to your help and tech support!

Thanks for the great video information Chris. My local shop did not have these base colors, but I did get 0351 Wicked Metallic Silver. Is this a good base for candy colors and the Blood Red that I also got or do I need to return it? Thanks again
Wicked Metallic Silver can be applied over a base of AutoBorne Sealer Black or Grey, and used as a base for candy20. However, 6013 Silver Sealer is much better as it has a higher metallic count and is more reflective, which is why we use it as the standard base silver for candy20. However, any metallic can be used as a base for candy20, each producing a different value (color) of candy. Thank you.

4050 UVLS Gloss Clear over candy2o does help protect the candy2o, and create a gloss finish that helps create dimension and bring the cnayd2o to life. Best protection, especially for exterior and automotive, is top-coating with a catalyzed (2k) urethane clear. For more, please refer to the Hard-Surface Appli8cation Guide and candy20 tech sheet available at www.creatextech.com. Thank you.
@@CreatexColors thank you for the clarification. I'm looking forward to checking out 4050 over Candy. I just ordered more Candy and am trying to get it to give it a polished look, thanks again!

Excellent. We do too. Mixing a little Wicked Black with 6013 Silver Sealer makes an excellent candy base metallic for a deep, neutral value of candy. Thanks for watching!
The red can add a bit of dimension and deepen/ darken the underlying red, but this technique is much better off with metallic & pearl colors. Wicked w303 Pearl Red, wickedairbrushcolors.com/pearl-and-metallic. Thank you.
@@CreatexColors ok got u thanks. Getting ready to paint my motorcycle and was trying to get a deep deep red. Going to give it a try over sw silver nugget and red hot lava metallic
I'm after a darker version of the red+graphite metallic base in the video. Instead of darkening at the ground coat level and layering on candy coats, could I make the darkening adjustments by making a 4050/candy2o black + red mix and adding that to the silver sealer? Would combining all the components into one mix diminish the depth of sparkle of the silver sealer metallic vs layering candy over a darker silver sealer? Thank you!
A test panel is the only real way of answering your question. Try a few with varying techniques. Layering a candy neat (no pearl0 over a base metallic or base of the same candy mixed with a pearl creates "more dimension" compared to mixing candy + pearl and applying that as color before the 2k gloss clear. Applying candy + pearl is easier to do uniformly compared to spraying candy neat, so for larger projects the little less dimension of the candy + pearl color may be a better option to ensure an evenly applied, good looking finish. For a candy paintjob o=over a vehicle, applying the candy + pearl color first (a "cheater coat") followed by the candy neat coats works well to hide any uneven application. Thanks.
Actually an interesting question. A yellow-shade pearl or metallic green such as Wicked W305 Pearl Lime Green, wickedairbrushcolors.com/pearl-and-metallic, with a candy mid-coat of either candy2o 4650 Blood Red or mix mix of 4650 2:1 or 1:1 4654 Grabber Orange. A similar metallic green base with a red candy mid-coat is in our Dirt Track Brown video where 4662 DTB was mixed with 4663 Red Oxide and applied over 6013 Silver Sealer that was mixed 2:1 Wicked W009 Phthalo Green, ua-cam.com/video/Y-HjVQim-9c/v-deo.html. Thank you.
Instead of mixing transparent black with your Silver sealer to make a graphite silver, can you mix Black sealer with the Silver sealer for the same results. Furthermore, are you able to blend all your sealers for varying tones?
Yes, 6002 Sealer Black can be mixed with 6013 Silver Sealer, and used as a tint to create a darker version of 6013 Silver Sealer. Mix in small increments of ~ 5% black to silver at a time. All AutoBorne Sealers are inter-mixable. Thank you.
I enjoyed the video. My question is not about this video. I was wondering what is your recommendation for an adhesion promoter on polycarbonate rc body? Transparent sealer or UVLS Gloss or ? Thank you ahead of time. 👍🏼
Createx 's best adhesive clear for application direct to plastics, including polycarbonate, is 4050 UVLS Gloss Clear. AutoBorne 6000 Transparent Sealer is essentially just s good in regard to adhesion and durability for polycarbonate, and if painting with an airbrush, not spray-gun, may be easier to apply with less reduction compared to the more viscous 4050. Its worth noting that also mixing 4030 Balancing clear, even at 10% per volume, greatly improves both adhesion and mar / scratch resistance of both Createx Airbrush Colors and Wicked Colors, which also each can be applied direct to polycarbonate easily. Use of 4050 or 6000 direct to polycarbonate can help achieve a great coating with excellent durability, but isn't as critical for adhesion as would use of 4050 would be, for example, painting glass. Thank you.
Where in Europe do I get paints like yours? How do I get started? Are these Water based paints, acryllic, lack of info over here is driving me crazy. I've a Kawasaki Zephyr that I'd like to do in an perlescent orange/tangerine
Wow ! I wish I had seen ur video before. I've had a hard time with R R ruby red 3 stage. and just now I discovered why I always get brownish or darker color. What do u think a silver or gold, as a ground base, would go better with R R? And is it flat or metalic ? Please help . Thanks
Start with 6013 Silver Sealer, www.autoborne.com, which is an aluminum-flaked ground coat that covers and provides a balanced metallic silver base for candy mid-coat colors. Ruby Red is on the cooler side, try mixing 4650 Blood Red with 4651 Sunset Magenta, perhaps ~ 4650 4:1 4651,. Next, mix the ruby red candy2o mix with 4050 UVLS Gloss Clear (4050 6:1 candy2o) to create the sprayable candy color. Thanks.
This particular application was over plastic discs that simply are scuffed ~ 400 - 600 grit, cleaned then 6013 AutoBorne Silver Sealer is applied direct. For more, please refer to our Automotive & Hard Surface Application Guide at www.creatextech.com. Thank you.
@@CreatexColors Thank you for your attention, I intend to paint a 1:10 scale Tamiya RC body made of rigid plastic of the ABS type, I would like to give it a candy finish, on the understanding that a black sealant would have to be applied in my case, which apparently in this case it would be AutoBorne Black Sealer, and later the tone that you intend to apply. As soon as I bought a kit that comes with black, white and a thinner, I want to do some tests first with a Tamiya HG III airbrush to see how it performs with these paints. My previous experience has always been with PPG, Sherwin Williams and Dupont brand automotive paints, for this with a Passhe Talon airbrush. Using Createx paints is a new situation for me, I have been watching some application videos of these paints and I have been surprised. About 20 years ago, I painted an MTB bike using a black base and a purple "ink" with pearl blue and red and white, the tinting was excellent. But I see that with Createx paints it is on another level.
For more information about painting models : hard surfaces with Createx paints, please refer to the Automotive & Hard-Surface Application Guide available at www.creatextech.com. Thank you.
Adding candy2o 4664 Black to a metallic will tint the metallic, but will also present potential bleeding issues as now the metallic is a candy-metallic, with dye that may leach into top-coated colors. Tinting with a pigment-based black, such as Wicked W002 Black or Createx 5132 Transparent Black works much better. Thank you.
I am doing a candy Red on a honda motorcycle. Just a slight mark on a panel,do I need to paint the whole panel as in prime the panel and do it all form fresh??blowing in candy doesn't work in my experience??!!!!
There is a technique to doing a candy graphic that is blended in seamless with the original finish. This is accomplished by top-coating the entire panel (graphic & mid-coat colors) with the same clear type as what was used to top-coat the original finish, probably a solvent-based 2k gloss clear. We made a video on how-to spot blend repair candy which may be helpful, ua-cam.com/video/cyQbt33uNDk/v-deo.html. Thank you.

Thanks again for your useful video In France for the moment we have not the 4050, can I use instead the Gloss Clear Coat 5620 or I stay with 4030 ? And what will become the ratio 1:6 ? Thanks for your answer Kind regards
4050 UVLS Gloss Clear is available in France, at least through our European distributor www.createx.de. There's a major difference between spraying candy2o mixed with 4050 vs. 4030 Balancing Clear. In regard to 5620, we've not mixed candy2o with this clear, it will mix but the resin used to make 5620 doesn't hold the candy2o dyes in a homogenous suspension as does 4050. Thank you.

Please refer to the candy2o tech sheet and our Hard-Surface Application Guide, both available at www.creatextech.com. In short, 4040 Bleed Checker is for use over candy2o before applying other colors. Best method applying candy2o direct to aluminum is ot first apply an adhesive coating of either AutoBorne 6000 Transparent Sealer or 4050 UVLS Gloss Clear. Top-coat candy2o with a gloss clear for a deep, candied finish; either a 2k urethane clear or 4050 UVLS Gloss Clear, which will require sanding & polishing for a high gloss finish. We most often use a 2k urethane clear to top-coat candy2o. Thank you.
Apply a transparent, adhesive ground-coat of either AutoBorne 6000 Transparent Sealer or 4050 UVLS Gloss Clear direct to the carbon fiber, then apply candy2o, then top-coat with a catalyzed (2k) urethane, gloss clear. Thank you.
Generally, 4050 is added in greater amounts than the concentrated candy2o dyes. We usually recommend a mix ratio of 6 to 8 parts 4050 to one part candy2o (4050 6:1 candy2o). Thank you.

A 2k urethane clear was sprayed. Createx paints are compatible with any 2k urethane clear. While we most often use PPG EC550 for a quality, high gloss finish, we recently sprayed C-800 ICON Clear with good results, spraygunner.com/american-icon-1/. Thank you.

Thank you.
What id love to see is 6 parts gold over one part wicked black with the blood red on top. I think that would be absolutely KILLER!!!!
Please make a test panel of this and share a video or photo of the resulting finish. We'd like to see it too.
Thank you.
@@CreatexColors Thank you for your swift and informative response.
For Createx paints in Europe, please goto www.createx.de. Thank you.
@@CreatexColors thank you
Thanks.
@@CreatexColors Thanks a lot. U r very helpful. God bless
Does more candy coats over the darkened silver make it lighter with each additional pass?
Each coat of candy2o creates a darker value of that hue. Thank you.
These new info videos are great information…keep um coming.. createx is all I use.
Thank you!
Love the candy over graphite!
thanks!
Thanks for the education
thank you for watching.
Thanks Chris. Allways great info.
thank you!
Woow Excelente Video!!! The metallic bases are also from Createx , some preparation in particular for its application ?
Thank you.
If I don't have the transparent black to add to the silver sealer can I use Black Candy2o as a substitute for the dark base?
Adding candy2o 4664 Black to a metallic will tint the metallic, but will also present potential bleeding issues as now the metallic is a candy-metallic, with dye that may leach into top-coated colors. Tinting with a pigment-based black, such as Wicked W002 Black or Createx 5132 Transparent Black works much better. Thank you.
@@CreatexColors I appreciate the quick response! Will use W002 Black which I also have.
Good stuff guys. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you.
@@CreatexColors thank you
i love that 3 parts silver to 1 part transparent black base color under that candy blood red. spraygunner here i come; just shut up & take my money. NASTY & BEAUTIFUL! thanks for the info & tutorial. be safe & endured.

Thanks again for your useful video
In France for the moment we have not the 4050, can I use instead the Gloss Clear Coat 5620 or I stay with 4030 ?
And what will become the ratio 1:6 ?
Thanks for your answer
Kind regards
4050 UVLS Gloss Clear is available in France, at least through our European distributor www.createx.de. There's a major difference between spraying candy2o mixed with 4050 vs. 4030 Balancing Clear. In regard to 5620, we've not mixed candy2o with this clear, it will mix but the resin used to make 5620 doesn't hold the candy2o dyes in a homogenous suspension as does 4050. Thank you.
@@CreatexColors thanks for your answer.
I found the 4050 to my retailer Aerograph Discount 😀 and I will have in a couple of days.
Two more questions : we use 4040 only after Candy2O if we add more Colors, but if we add varnish we need ?
Do you recommend to add a varnish on the top of Candy colour ? Or that can stay like this for die cast car model ?
When I put Candy on Aluminium 4102 I don’t need to put first 4040 ?
Sorry for all my question , I have discover airbrush and your product and it is really good hobby for me 😉😎
Thanks for this, I receive 4050 today
Before using Candy2 O on Aluminium we need to put first 4040 ?
After Candy2 and before gloss clear we need to put 4040 ?
What gloss varnish you recommande to put on Candy2?
Thanks fir your answers
Thank you.
If i want to use this candy over carbon fiber how should i do it to get the best result?
Apply a transparent, adhesive ground-coat of either AutoBorne 6000 Transparent Sealer or 4050 UVLS Gloss Clear direct to the carbon fiber, then apply candy2o, then top-coat with a catalyzed (2k) urethane, gloss clear. Thank you.
What? A gallon to sixteen ounces is 1:8 and 4oz to 32oz is also 1:8. Is it supposed to be 1:6 or 1:8?
Generally, 4050 is added in greater amounts than the concentrated candy2o dyes. We usually recommend a mix ratio of 6 to 8 parts 4050 to one part candy2o (4050 6:1 candy2o). Thank you.
Could you spray candy red over a red metallic ground coat?
Yes. For more, please visit www.candy2o.com. Thank you.
Where can I source those test panels from?
we bought quite a few of these years ago, found an online source by searching for shaped plastic panel, thanks
Thank you!!! For me GOLD it is !!!!
excellent, Candy Apple Red!
I'd like to see an experiment where you spray candy color right on a mirror like an actual glass bathroom mirror....
Over gold looks the best!
where can i get those spray shapes
We found them online, basic Google search. Thank you.
i went to Home Depot and bought a section of plastic gutter. cut into about 6 inch lengths. then i cut them in half cutting off the back side. They look just like the spray shapes used in this video. around her you can get a 10 foot section for 4 dollars.
Use Createx with my scale model Cars and i can say i am really Happy with your colors there are awesome but Here in Germany there are a Bit pricy. Love it Wicked is stunning Line Spray it unthinned throug my Airbrush with .5 tip
GREAT VIDEO
GREAT INFO
Thank you!
Great vid, thanks
thanks for watching
omg i love the wicked black
Thank you!
Rookie question here, so you want to mix the red and gloss color to make the red candy color?
Yes, mix candy20 with 4050 UVLS Gloss Clear. The ratio is generally 1:1 for airbrush, and 4050 Gloss Clear 6:1 candy20 for spray gun. For more on mixing candy20, please see the tech sheet and candy20 mix videos available at www.candy20.com. Thank you.
Colour code please?
4050 UVLS Gloss Clear 6:1 4650 candy2o Blood Red applied over 6013 AutoBorne Silver Sealer. Thank you.
If someone is looking to get some practice in.. definitely like to do a candy on my c10.. lol. Central indiana.. lol
totally, lol, thanks for watching!
😍😍😍😍😍
What did you use for the clear coat? Was it a 2K?
A 2k urethane clear was sprayed. Createx paints are compatible with any 2k urethane clear. While we most often use PPG EC550 for a quality, high gloss finish, we recently sprayed C-800 ICON Clear with good results, spraygunner.com/american-icon-1/. Thank you.
6:1 would be 4 ounces to 24 ounces, not 32, 32 would be 8:1
