Things like "Fate" and "god having a plan for you" makes me feel like they're reducing personal responsibility - in an atheistic world, we are a product of actions taken and inaction. Aside from that I'm very pro - christian, it's at least top 3 most virtuous religions on Earth and considering how pervasive it is that's amazing, and a lot of modern interpretations of the religion embody the core of Western morals in a very firm structure. @Kutter Goodspeed yea, sometime in the late 70s early 80s I believe. I really wish they were a thing though, in the state that I live in, the majority of homeless people I encounter would be much better off in an institution.
They still exist but it's nothing like what it was. A large amount of patients just got let out into society and now they're locked up in the correctional system getting treated by prisons that don't have the training, knowledge or the space to properly deal with them. It's a large reason why American unfortunately houses 25% of the worlds prison population.
