I'd been playing a pedal I bought from a friend for $20 for years and I bought a 9002 on Craigs list for $290 with the intent of turning it for a small profit on Ebay. I decided what the heck I have them might as well try it out. I haven't adjusted a thing and it plays faster and smoother then I ever would have imagined. Everything I do is easier, smoother and quicker. I can even pull off things I could never do before. Double beats are so much more possible on this pedal. Can't sell it now!
wow! Thank you! exactly what I was looking for! I just purchased a dw 9000 and, in spite of being almost set, I wondered with some adjustments! great video
I purchased the dw9002 double pedals today. They are one heck of an upgrade from the dw5000 s I have had for the past ten years. I had no idea how crappy my old pedals were until the moment I set the dw9002 s up on my kit. They are so smooth and the numerous adjustments you can make are easy. I was able to dial in the perfect amount of resistance in the springs along with beater angle and footboard height. I played on some pearl demon drives and the tama speed cobras and the dw9002's were by fa
Thanks for the info! I JUST got one of these tonight -- so this vid is helpful indeed! I am replacing a (very sentimental) accelerator 5000 that I bought in '91!! Believe me when I say that my old 5000 has been through 1000's of shows! I have held on to it for so long b/c it remained perfectly balanced...for me. Never been too impressed with other pedals, and preferred old 'trusty'. It's day has sadly come - and I hope the 9000 can be dialed in similar and last another couple decades!
I was watching this in 2019 and just have to add one thing, the very last thing he mentions is the ''Play" from the universal shaft connection. This is important because no matter how many adjustments you can make, it simply will not matter when you have a loose slave pedal due to a weak universal joint connection. I've been playing the Tama Iron Cobra most of my life until I wore down the connection on the universal joint. I tried many pedals and finally settled on the TAMA Speed Cobra. This pedal also had a weak universal joint, so I bought a separate "Pearl Z link" universal shaft which gives my double pedal ZERO tolerance. It may not matter to some drummers, but for me it was a big deal that the slave pedal simply didn't have the same response as the master. Playing Thrash Metal, a tightly set up double pedal was a must for me. I have checked out many double pedals and found that MOST have the same issue with the universal joint connection, the Z Link was the only one that gave me a Zero tolerance , Tricks and Axis Pedals also offer something similar.
I currently play on DW5000 and DW3000 dblkick pedals, and I've had problems with their stock drive shafts to the point of too much latency in the bearing linkage... A couple years ago I couldn't afford the Trick drive shaft (DW version), so I bought a Ludwig Atlas Pro drive shaft that is equivalent to the Trick shaft using thick machined bearing linkage. Since I got the Ludwig drive shaft my pedals play consistently and the action is precise between my slave pedals and main pedals. Next month I will buy the DW9000 XF version and I will certainly go for the Trick dw version drive shaft. Trick Drums Inc. did an excellent job designing retrofit Trick shafts that can be used with other name brand dblkick pedals, you just have to get the right Trick shaft that is compatible with whatever pedals you have. 👍
@fireboi55 The spring tension is all personal taste. As a starting point I went with a loose spring adjustment because I don't like to feel any tension. If I have to push down much more than just the weight of my leg I'm working too hard. Aside from that I kept the board in a kind of middle height area and let the beaters ride back a good distance from the head. Even though they're set up light to the touch, there's enough power there to break heads.
I'm seriously thinking about getting a pair. I currently have the 5000 (had them for 3 years) and still can't find a comfortable position... Great review. You basically sold it to me :D
Thanks for the video. I am thinking about buying the 9000's. I just cannot stand the twin pedal any longer in general, so I will opt for the single ones nowadays for that extra bit of money. I had the 5000 twin pedal 11 years ago, but returned them due to the slack on the slave pedal. I do notice it.
I just got one of these a few months ago. I still use a single for gigging. So far I like it but it is essentially still just a kick drum pedal. I also have a Pearl Eliminator, a Tama Iron Cobra power glide, a DW 5000 Turbo, and an Axis Longboard. I have 5 drum sets so I need multiple pedals. My favorite for feel is still the Iron Cobra. Just my opinion.
DW screws often contain a type of Lock-tite. The manual states that you'll need to heat them with a hair dryer for 2-3 minutes before trying to remove them.
ii just bought these pedals and the only thing i notice is that my slave pedals beater moves faster than my secondary pedal does this have to do with the spring tension?
I just traded my 9002's for the new Tama SpeedCobra's (newer version of the Iron Cobras) and they are the best things that I have ever played (between all DW, old Iron Cobras, Axis and Pearl DD & Eliminators). But it is all personal preference.
Hi there, I really like your pedal review, but I have a question, do you know if the pedal can covert from double bass pedal to two individual bass pedals, as the 5000 model does?
Good review, but Pearl Demon Drives are the way to go in my opinion. Fully customisable to fit how you play. So smooth, just the best pedals ive ever played with. Worth the extra cash. Go for the Demon Drives!! :)
@aaronled I know how you feel man. I think that many drummers, including myself, tend to be borderline superstitious when it comes to pedals and a lot of us search for a familiar feel in new pedals. The 9000's are definitely east to settle into. I pretty much stayed with the factory settings because out of the box they felt great. I hope they work out for you.
@CallofDutyCod123 yeah you can use as 2 single pedals. i have a pair and im thinking of changing over to the demon drive cause there a ton better for a single bass drum in my opinion. but the 9000s have served me well and id say go for it if your not happy with the demon drives.
Wow, I'm the 666th viewer to Like this video! Nice job with your tour of this awesome dblkick pedal. DW has made so many newer and better dblkick pedals for decades, yet they have never thought about upgrading the stock drive shaft to a more solid and consistent bearing linkage design... as we can see, that stock drive shaft has latency (too much loose play) which affects the timing of the slave beater. If you're playing blast-beat dblkick runs, that latency could sound sloppy in the studio monitors. A remedy for that is to replace that DW stock drive shaft with the Trick Drums drive shaft DW version, so that the action will be consistent and precise in the Slave pedal exactly as the Master pedal. I plan to buy the DW9000 XF (extended footboard) version next month, as an upgrade from my DW5000 and DW3000 dblkick pedals. I also have the Pearl P932 Demonator chain-drive pedals, but I'm certainly gonna ditch all my pedals and get the DW9000 XF set as my ultimate dblkick pedal upgrade. Thanks for this video, keep up the good work! 🤘👍
I have the speed cobras which I do like but these look very well built. I think I'd only trade up for high end direct drive pedals though, you're always taking a slight gamble cos it can take a few days to get used to a pedal which is time you don't have when you're in a shop trying them out.
I have a demon drive and I hate direct drive, it took me a long time to realize. I'm thinking of getting one of these, I was just wondering if the z-link from the pearl will fit on the DW, because I'd really like to keep the zero latency feature.
on my dw9002, the slave pedal's footboard doesnt go low as the master pedal even though the slave's footboard is set to the lowest possible setting. does this mean i should return it to DW and get a replacement?
@bass6352 Matt Greiner from August Burns Red uses DW 9002's. I play Metalcore also and used to use Iron Cobras, but now have 9002's. Both are awesome, I prefer the 9002's still.
I'm having a rly hard time adjusting the tension in the spring. When I try to loosen the washer it won't budge, is there a trick to it I'm missing?? Thanks for the video!!
how do I loosen/tighten the tension? Cuz i've had these bout a year now and they are just amazing, however i can't figure out how to loosen/tighten the main tension to the springs, all the other stuff you show in this video i've tried and messed around i just can not figure out how to tighten/loosen the main springs tension.-Thanks God bless
Hey guys .. Can pedal DW-9002 converted into two single pedals? I can not find it anywhere .. and the picture I can not identify. I will wait for a response.. Thanks.
@bass6352 I have Iron Cobras. they're easier to adjust foot pedal and beater angle since they're totally independent. There are numerous cases of heavy players snapping 9000 foot boards in half, unlike ICs. The 9000s will be smoother cause everything has bearings on it but are less durable than ICs and cost more.
My right pedal bounces alot and my left is completely dead and barely comes up, it is stopping me from playing fast, and it is in working condition and only 7 years old, I have new springs and have gone through all the settings, how would you recomend fixing this? Trevor
Hi, I'm getting a new single pedal and want it to be dw 5000 or 9000. Which would be best for speed and moderate power. I don't want it to feel too heavy though! Thx
At 8:37 you turn the auxiliary pedal over and just to the left of your finger theres a small screw, could you tell me what size and length that is? I bought a used pedal and its missing that. Great video!
im in the market for getting a new double bass pedal and i can't decide between these pedalsn, dw5000 and iron cobras what should i get i play music like august burns red
i didnt get the nylon strap or the guide to changing the strap.. i can't even add my two toe stoppers.. it seems impossible to get the screw off and i can't even find a guide or tutorial :(
i dnt have time to go into a shop and try out pedals... nd i need to know pretty soon which pedal to get... i know that dw9000 cant really go wrong... but tama iron cobras ive herd are pretty awesome too... plus i can buy a pair of zildjan hats with the money i dnt spend on a dw... but is it worth buying dw over iron cobras or any other pedal? HELP!
Hey, my vertical clamp stud broke ( To attach the pedal to the bass drum). Can anyone PLEASE tell me the diameter and length of the stud so that I can countersink a replacement.
I bought the pedals in a box, in the case hahaha!! it was weird...but these pedals are fucking amazing!! I got em a few days ago and they feel so awesome daaang
i just traded a trick dominator and an axis longboard for the dw 9000 awesome pedal it is did not like the axis at all the dominator was ok but this pedal is great
Anyone know if this is very durable? I know i used to have a 5000 accelerator but both times i broke them. I played hard and stomped on them is why. Then i went back to another brand of pedals but now im thinkin of tryin these out again.
ok so i have these cheap 2x bass pedals but i was looking for how i could adjust the beater so that its closer to the bass drum...ive been looking everywhere but it would be nice if someone told me on here thanks :)
Both are acceptable. Each will give you a different sound, with the felt side being a less defined attack, and the plastic side being more attack. Your drumhead and beater pad will also have an effect on your sound. Try different combos and see what sounds good to you.
Iron Cobras are so much easier to adjust.... everything adjusts independently. the foot board angle doesn't effect the spring tension or the beater position. They may not be as smooth as DW9002 but they're much more customizable and durable.
Just bought this 11 years from when this video was posted. Thanks for the info!
must say that this is the most in depth pedal review i've ever seen on youtube lol. i really appreciate that you took the time to make this. 5.5

Just got the Trick pro 1-V BIGFOOT double pedal absolutely 0 play from the slave to beeter. Love it so smooth.

Suffocation in the background 🤘🏻
Thanks for the in depth review!
I have DW 5000 for about 20 years now. Replaced the hinges, still work great! Would be nice to upgrade someday. Thanks for all the comments.
Thanks for the info!

My friend let me have a go of his 9000 single. My jaw dropped, such a natural feel. Im getting one when i win the lottery!
I'm seriously thinking about getting a pair. I currently have the 5000 (had them for 3 years) and still can't find a comfortable position...

Its a floating rotor because the axel and the cam are sitting on 2 seperate magnets on the same polarity so the cam on the axel is actually floating.
Good review man you're a funny guy
@flagstamp Thank you very much and yea i think this double bass pedal is REALLY nice :)
Wow, I'm the 666th viewer to Like this video!

@CJMdrummer666 From the tip to the hinge is 9 3/4 inches. All the way to the back of the heel plate is 12 3/4 inches. Rock!
I have the speed cobras which I do like but these look very well built. I think I'd only trade up for high end direct drive pedals though, you're always taking a slight gamble cos it can take a few days to get used to a pedal which is time you don't have when you're in a shop trying them out.
Seems like you can do more with the pearl demon pedals
@Drumz4Life22 The beaters are reversible. Plastic side for more attack, felt side for more warmth.
Actually, you got the adjustable cam backwards. Having the chain closer to the cam is the Accelerator adjustment, and having it farther is the Turbo.
I have a demon drive and I hate direct drive, it took me a long time to realize. I'm thinking of getting one of these, I was just wondering if the z-link from the pearl will fit on the DW, because I'd really like to keep the zero latency feature.

@MakTheSank It's BTK(Bind, torture, kill) by Suffocation.
is there another porthole on the other side of the double bass pedal so i can hit 2 bass drums
I own a DW 9000 double bass pedal. Best money I have ever spent on a pedal.
Is that for singles, doubles, or both? Demon Drives/Chains(Double Peds) cost 35k here in our country while a single DW 9000 cost 24k.
how do I loosen/tighten the tension? Tim Howitt Tim, I no longer have the pedal to reference. Sorry! Maybe another viewer can chime in
can someone tell me how to tighten the spring tension!!
loosen, unloosen...that ain´t matter to me since I think I´ve seen the best review on the pedal...thanks flagstamp!
It obviously wouldn’t ain’t matter to you cause u ain’t literate
im in the market for getting a new double bass pedal and i can't decide between these pedalsn, dw5000 and iron cobras what should i get i play music like august burns red
What's the band you're listening to? And thank you for the video...
@MrVengeance1984 I've gone through both, and I'd say Axis if you really want speed. Go with dw if you want a more solid and powerful feel.
see 2.44 the spring tension , u push the circle thing down than loosing it or tighten is using the long thing on the bottom
Are you from Québec?!? 'Cuz the Q.C. passed sticker on the master pedal kind of *tickles my fancy*.
The doubles do come in lefty configurations also!
What's the difference between having the strap on the chains or not?
Nice
when u play on the pedal, does it feel heavy and had to play on?
i didnt get the nylon strap or the guide to changing the strap.. i can't even add my two toe stoppers.. it seems impossible to get the screw off and i can't even find a guide or tutorial :(

Getting mine in 2 days or so. :)
Hey, my vertical clamp stud broke ( To attach the pedal to the bass drum). Can anyone PLEASE tell me the diameter and length of the stud so that I can countersink a replacement.
I have a new version and love it
I have one, LOVE IT! If ur stompin, ur working way too hard. Back off an let the peddle work for you. It will help your speed as well. Good luck.
yes it is
I bought the pedals in a box, in the case hahaha!! it was weird...but these pedals are fucking amazing!! I got em a few days ago and they feel so awesome daaang
Would you (or anyone else) prefer these or the Pearl Demon Drives?? And how do these compare to Pearl Eliminators??
Is it worth getting this as a single pedal or is it really personal preference?
@sausage92173 pearl eliminators are pretty sweet, but if i was going to switch i would go to Axis longs or the new Axis A21's. .
I guess if you giving DW $550 bucks isn't enough you can get a DW golf towel XD lmao
you can make them into two seperate pedals right?
good review, those pedals have a huge footprint though, they take up heaps of room
@85Aheadstix Yeah i was talking to the pearl guys and even they said that the Speed cobras are better and more responsive than the Demon drivers.
i thought my computer was fucking up and playing suffocation out of nowhere lol \m/
i just traded a trick dominator and an axis longboard for the dw 9000 awesome pedal it is did not like the axis at all the dominator was ok but this pedal is great
how does this compare to the pearl demon chain?
I have this pedal, but I have the DW9000 XF model. The XF model has an inch longer foot board, and I got it for $541.00 though sweetwater.
Cool story bro
Anyone know if this is very durable? I know i used to have a 5000 accelerator but both times i broke them. I played hard and stomped on them is why. Then i went back to another brand of pedals but now im thinkin of tryin these out again.
you can acually i noticed when i bought it that the slave drive acually has a hole in it were a beater goes so yes you can :)
cual recomienda para comprar...me gustaria un analisis de los 2 gracias,,
ok so i have these cheap 2x bass pedals but i was looking for how i could adjust the beater so that its closer to the bass drum...ive been looking everywhere but it would be nice if someone told me on here thanks :)
@KevyDoom253 Speed cobras!, incredible!
On a bass drum, should I have the white fuzz against the head? Cause you have the black part against the head
Both are acceptable. Each will give you a different sound, with the felt side being a less defined attack, and the plastic side being more attack. Your drumhead and beater pad will also have an effect on your sound. Try different combos and see what sounds good to you.
Where can i buy this anthony?
@sausage92173 Iron cobra they are sick pedals
@Rushfan551 Because I have two bass drums but sometimes I play one on the kick. So I want something that could be convert double to single..
heyyy mann thankss for thiss review i just got this and i dident know what to doo doo hahahaha
Iron Cobras are so much easier to adjust.... everything adjusts independently. the foot board angle doesn't effect the spring tension or the beater position. They may not be as smooth as DW9002 but they're much more customizable and durable.
They're so beautiful. Step one: new drum kit. Step two this pedal.
Whats the music in the background? Sounds off hook
