    Only a rower understands the dread you feel waking up on 2k day. I can feel the fear in their faces when they set the monitor for 2k

      @GD-xn6jw 5 років тому +7

      I would disagree. They are not crazy strong when measured objectively against other specimens their height and weight. Rowers generally have very poor strength in the bench, squat and deadlift as well as the Olympic lifts compared to other tall sportsmen with similar body types. 17 stone rowers could barely bench 100kg for reps.

    • @sammitchell3181
      @sammitchell3181 5 років тому +27

      G D actually I think you’ll find that they could beat a hell of a lot of people in the squats and deadlifts. Rowers do them like mad and with the sessions they do they build up so much leg and back power that they can explode with tremendous strength when needed. And I bet you if you take a reasonable weight that they could do a hell of a lot more reps than any other weightlifter

Got my 2k time to 8:05.2 at the peak of back pain, at that point the adrenaline wore off, I had to completely rest for 10 weeks, walk with a crutch when I did walk, and retake my uni year. Wow, I loved the vid but found a new trigger for my epileptic migraines. In the past, certain speed flashing lights would do it, but the heartbeat sections of this video immediately caused it. Not complaining, you edit your videos any way you want, but it was fascinating to feel it triggered so quickly. I wonder if someone with more severe forms of epileptic seizures would be affected by it.
    Oh well, it'll pass once I get to sleep. I love the 2k and 500m. They're very different obviously, but such intense tests of fitness. I'm definitely a sprinter, as my 500m pace is 1:23 and my 2k pace drops to about 1:45. I'd rather improve my 2k at this point, but its always easier to work on strengths rather than weaknesses.

Love the parts where you see the guys looking over at the others after they've finished trying to work out if they are more tired, did anyone have anything else to give, could I have beaten them with a bit more effort, how hard was that guy working to get so close etc etc - all great psychology. I have made a small video discussing drag factor actually, essentially saying it is very individual. I will do a similar drag factor no matter what workout. Apart from trying to hit lowest split possible I will use a higher drag. Warm up wise, again very personal. I like to spend time on a static bike first and get a good sweat going. After that do some steady rowing on the erg, get a minute of pace in before the start of the race as well as a few bursts above at and below pace. Really trying to wake up the system that's about to be used!

    Out of curiosity, why don’t rowing teams use slides all the time for their erg sessions?

    • @CameronBuchan

      Could be a few reasons. Perhaps one being the erg is used as a specific tool and the water is used for the technical aspect. Maybe space? Not 100% sure!

    more solid connection and bcs
    lesser ankle fexibility)?

    • @CameronBuchan
      @CameronBuchan  4 роки тому +1

      Bit of both really depending on the athlete! I used to use deadlift shoes that didnt have the heel lift and switched over the the oly shoes recently to see what difference there was. Makes it easier to stay connected for longer
