My host in Singapore was noticably annoyed with the idea of travelling downtown to eat at this place, but I managed to convince him, and the bak kut teh and the pig's trotter won him over. :-)
We tried the ngoh hiang and the kai lan (I think) as well. The ngoh hiang tasted a lot like Danish pork meatballs (frikadeller) which was slightly disappointing as I had hoped for something more exotic, but the kai lan were tender with just the right amount of bite, and supplemented the meat and the rice perfectly.
I still haven't figured out how to add the necessary salt to the rice in this sort of meal. If I just put the meat on top of the rice, the rice soaks up too much of the sauce, but I find that plain rice in Singapore tends to be undersalted, so something needs to be added.

dip the pork into the dark soy sauce with chilli. take a bite of it, then shovel some soupy rice into the mouth. that's how ive been eating it, at least!

    This place looks awesome.
Today I had a variation of Bak Kut Teh for lunch just today. It also had noodles, and the soup was tomato based! Not that bad.
But all those braised dishes.......my God!! Look so good (especially the trotter}. And I LOVE Do Miow.
This was a really good one.
    Keep them coming.

Good to know they are associated. I always thought it was a new one trying to profit from Founder's brand

Wow, this is an excellent introduction to BKT n Tea drinking.
Remember seeing the 2nd Generation lady at Rangoon Road Outlet, many years back.
Agreed that their BKT has more pepper taste than the other outlet further up the road n also, the one at Havelock Road.
Joo Chat Road (in the 80s?) was once, a hot spot for BKT. Those were the wonderful days as fresh pork was still available . Also remember another popular outlet at Sin Ming where, their prime ribs were, really big!!!
Bro, thanks again for sharing your wonderful food adventures in Sgp.

The daughters’ stall is better than her father shop at Balestier now. ( understand they hv sold the business to some corporate organisations). I frequent their stall at Rangoon Road often. One of the better one in Spore.

Bkt doesn't have tea and doesn't go well with tea. People got confused and drink tea with their soup dish 😂

Let's be honest ...the white pepper soup bak ku teh is inferior to the dark herbal version.

    • @noproblematallmate
      @noproblematallmate 4 місяці тому

Dark version add so much sugar. It suits people who have a sweet tooth and looking to get diabetes. White version 0 sugar... Suitable for adults.
