Love urban fantasy. It's just one of those genres that I feel has a bit of everything. Action, humor, politics, romance, mystery, etc. Ilona Andrews' books should be considered must read for any urban fantasy lover. All of their series are excellent. Annette Marie, Patricia Briggs, Lisa Shearin, Jim Butcher, Simon R Green and Seanan McGuire are all great and have excellent urban fantasy series.
Agree! But Butcher's stories are all about beating up on his main character who is also sorta whiny. Butcher: "Identify with my main character so you can suffer while I torture him through every book!" Fatigue ensued and I stopped reading his works.
I didn't realise that Addie LaRue could be classed as urban fantasy! I loved that book unexpectedly so I'll definitely be checking out the other books in this video :) thank you for the recommendations!
omg, I opened this video (having never watched any of your videos before) and saw you leading with Renegades and I swear, I internally started jumping for joy. I love the Renegades trilogy! I actually met the author at an event at my local bookstore, and I asked her if she'd ever written fanfiction, and she said she used to write fanfics for Sailor Moon. Now that I've watched a few seasons of Sailor Moon (and read some of the manga), I can definitely see some inspiration from that in Renegades. I also read some of the Lunar Chronicles, but then Winter scared the shit out of me (I was like thirteen) and I never finished it. One day I'll go back to it :)
Urban fantasy is one of my favorite genres! There's just something about it that's always engaging and fun. And so many of these are either books I've LOVED or books I can't wait to get to!
One of my favorite urban fantasy books is Moon Called by Patricia Briggs. The main character Mercy Thompson is a Volkswagen mechanic. She also happens to be a Native American coyote shapeshifter who was raised by werwolves. There is a spin off series called Alpha and Omega, plus some novellas. I’m just obsessed with the whole world! I highly recommend checking it out if you haven’t already!
Vicious sounds like sort of a movie that came out a long time ago I think in the 1980s with Robert Redford called Sneakers. Best friends become enemies because they were college friends who were anarchists who thought they were saving the world and did some hacking. And because of an innocent event one goes to prison then 30 years later the movie mystery ensues.
Warcross is amazing it is one of the very few books set in the future I love sooo much 🤩........... I've been planning to get to Legendborn for a long time good to know it's urban fantasy 😅
Kim Harrison’s The Hollows Series was the series that got me started with Urban Fantasy, although I think it’s technically New Adult? From there I went to another New Adult which was The Fever Series (that one is definitely New Adult ;).
I liked Addie LaRue (I gave it 4 stars) but it did heavily lack diversity. Also, the story didn’t show Addie going to places that weren’t in Europe or New York, which is a problem because the main character has lived for 300 years. And even in New York, there is so much diversity because it is a large, metropolitan city. I really liked this story, however, there is a problem with the diversity in this book.
I so love renegades finished the series last year I much prefer this series to the lunar chronicles I also love lore it's on my list of best books of 2021 so is legendborn 🧡❤💝
Personally Warcross only because of the writing in RPO. It was long and winded and sometimes I just didn’t want to trudge through it. Warcross was quick and to the point and things happened one after the other. I did enjoy the 80’s references and the plot of RPO though! 🤗
I personally really love the chapter books. they are one of my favorites, and I think the experience of reading those is unmatched. It is perfectly fine if the graphic novel format is easier for you, but I would recommend reading the original series if possible.
@@sophiewonders thanks I struggle with reading normal novels to me it’s just a list of words but I do eventually want to try the heroes of Olympus novels wish me luck 😀
@@digitbreaker6494 That's great! I'm happy to help! it's perfectly acceptable to read what you're comfortable with. When you do get around to reading Rick Riordans books, I find they're really engaging and easy to get into. I wish you the best on your reading journey! =)
Hahah I feel like it’s definitely something I had to train my brain on so that I could dive into one after the other and pick up what’s happening quickly!
Urban fantasy is honestly one of my favorite genres and I'm always trying to get my friends and family to read more of it.
Yesss haha love it!
I usual have my online bookstore and youtube on split screen whenever ash recommend books
Hehehe
These are also a great start for someone starting to explore the fantasy genre.

I stopped reading the series around book 5 or 6, but really enjoyed the slow burn for Mercy and Adam.

I loved your enthusiasm over The House In The Cerulean Sea. Lucy is adorable.
Great video Ash as all your videos are😄. Also less than 400 to go until 60k subscribers. Exciting!🥰
My favorite Urban Fantasy series is The Iron Druid Chronicles by Kevin Hearne. Audio books are well narrated too if you prefer. Highly recommend

Thank you for the recommendations! I'm trying to get more into fantasy books. And I could use some recommendations 😉
The Storm Runner by J. C. Cervantes is really good!! There's 3 books in the series.
Oh I like this list! Thank you for making a video like this, I love urban fantasy!
Most of these are on my tbr! Can’t wait to get to those 😍
The invisible life of Addie Larue ❤️
Henry made me cry so much that I instinctively start weeping each time I saw that the next chapter was his.
The Dresden files are amazing!
Warcross is amazing it is one of the very few books set in the future I love sooo much 🤩........... I've been planning to get to Legendborn for a long time good to know it's urban fantasy 😅
"They grow closer and things happen" you just described every YA book ever xD
I've read only two.
The Invisible Life of Addie Larue - and I havent move on 😭❤
Warcross is soo good too ❤
Jane Yellowrock:Skinwalker
Recently reading Addie Larue, and mostly of the recs are already in my TBR. Thanks Ashley!!!
If you like Renegades, read Illusive by Emily Lloyd. It's so much better and actually interesting. Also V is for villian by Peter Moore.
I was just thinking about trying out some urban fantasy. You literally read my mind lady. So cool. Much thanks!
Me: Sees Urban Fantasy in the title. Clicks faster than 3 x 10^8 m/s.

This was definitely a good list of recommendations!
The Steel and Stone Series by Annette Marie is my favourite Urban Fantasy Series. It's really good and action packed.
YES LOVE RENEGADES
Love how you mentioned Renegades, read it recently & it became a new favourite.
I needed this! Thanks ash!
Thanks for the review ☺️ of books 📚 📚 you love 😘

Did you read the invisible life of Addie Larue in Spanish? I'm just wondering because it's the spanish cover
That's the American cover. Spain might have the same one, but her copy of the book isn't in Spanish.
@@atmreads Ahh I see, thanks for answering

OMG YES RENEGADES IS AWESOME
Ahh yay! And I agree, I couldn’t get into the lunar chronicles but renegades stole my heart!
the city we became by n.k. jemisin!!!!!!!
I don’t know, urban fantasy is just as confusing as high fantasy for me 😥😥 It’s a struggle.
Hey, sometimes it happens! If you still want to get into fantasy, it’s just about finding that one story that you love! ❤️
You should read artemis fowl
Did you like WarCross or Ready Player One better?....

I wish I could lose my memory to reread my favourite books.Especially Harry Potter.
This is a question I’ve been meaning to ask but I have been reading the PJO graphic novels am I reading a good version of the story?
I personally really love the chapter books. they are one of my favorites, and I think the experience of reading those is unmatched. It is perfectly fine if the graphic novel format is easier for you, but I would recommend reading the original series if possible.
