This show was never made for cable (as I think you said). Klasky Csupo was probably looking for a little money on the side so they worked with McDonalds to create these VHS tapes. I'm thinking about the show did pretty well because they sold a good amount of tapes.
Okay, a few things that really bug me for no particular reason. 1. Isn't the point of bringing whistles camping to scare away bears and other animals? Why does it attract one? 2. If everything was orchestrated does that include the rain that drove them away from camp? 3. Tents have a rain fly for a reason. 4. Why am I thinking this much about a McDonald's cartoon?
Seconding what Kaz Miller stated. It was probably a bear call to lure bears closer. (Hunters will often use those irl and for bigger animals, the sound is meant to replicate the cries of an injured/endangered cub but I'm guessing that would be far too dark for a McDonald's cartoon from the 90s.) It's possible the rain could've been orchestrated although even if we go by cartoon logic where the girl who is clearly supposed to be a tech head and genius can build any type of machine, and even if she has an unlimited source of funds... it would be awfully time consuming to build a rain machine from the ground up, and then have a parent/guardian haul it all the way out to the woods, hide it there, hope no one like a park ranger comes by and removes it or someone vandalizes it or steals it-- not including any damage it may incur from sitting out in the elements, and then invite your friend to go on a camping trip to *that* specific location just to prank them. I think it's more likely that she had been tracking weather patterns through news broadcasts in her world, and plan the trip around it as to incorporate it into the prank. That, or it was a fortuitous accident and the rain wasn't expected at all but it played right into the prank.
1: The whistle was brought by Hambugular bc he probably has used the call to scare other friends multiple times so he was probably thinking of scaring them. But since Ronald was like " No magic...just walk " He was thinking " If I can scare Ronald, he'll probably use his magic out of panic and we'll get their quicker " but as we see, it doesn't work 2: Yes, I believe the VR set was responsible for the rain and quite possible the " Heat Lightning ". My guess is that the VR set can recreate real time things and allow things like rain and wind to effect people (it's more like a 4-D thing like in movies) 3: Ya know...I dunno how to answer that one 4: Idk bc I've been doing it for years
This has no right to have the number of talented voice actors behind it as it does. Dee Bradley Baker, Christine Cavanaugh, Charlie Adler, Kevin Michael Richardson. That's crazy. Also, I remember having one or two of these as a kid, and I always enjoyed them. Despite the blatant corporate shilling, a lot of the cartoons had a level of that classic Klasky Csupo charm. At least, in my opinion.

I actually remember watching that cartoon, but sadly I can only remember (barely) one episode. It was where Hamburgerler meets a family of aliens and they decide (for reasons I can’t remember) to take him to their home planet, despite his desire to stay on his own planet.
And if you'll believe it, they actually had sort of a tie in to these videos with a Lego Happy Meal promotion. Set aside the fact that Legos were cheap enough to give away as kids' meal toys back then, even though they were only less than 10 piece models. They had blocks printed with these exact character likenesses on them, and I think they came out before the videos did, at least from what I can remember. I remember having the Hamburgalar biplane kit and seeing the weird version of the character and cracking the hell up at his giant shaved adult Chuckie Finster wearing a domino mask over his unfocused, dead eyes having head sitting crookedly to one side atop a pencil thin neck. I probably lost that piece forever, like the rest of the pieces.
I don't think they were ever distributed around where I live, at least I never heard of their existence until now. And I'm glad, that dog looks like a hellish nightmare creature and those chicken nuggets look like an art project gone wrong. Thanks for sharing this stuff that reminds me of a nightmare I am soon going to have!
My only memory of this entire series is that the Hamburglar was voiced by Charlie Adler so he just kinda sounds like a blend of both Cow AND Chicken from...well...Cow and Chicken.

I don't think they were ever distributed around where I live, at least I never heard of their existence until now. And I'm glad, that dog looks like a hellish nightmare creature and those chicken nuggets look like an art project gone wrong. My only memory of this entire series is that the Hamburglar was voiced by Charlie Adler so he just kinda sounds like a blend of both Cow AND Chicken from...well...Cow and Chicken.
