Seiko Modding has changed my whole approach to building my collection. I’ve got some nice pieces but none of them invoke as much pride and passion as my modded Seiko. It’s taken my interest away from a lot of stuff I’d have spent a lot of money on and got less enjoyment from. I’ve got a more intimate connection with the watches I’ve modded than I think I could get from any higher end thing. Hard to describe with words but I love it.
I am highly interested in modifying watches and would like to learn more about it. Do you have any tips on where to purchase materials and how to get started? I am relatively new to watch modification and would appreciate any guidance you can provide.
Besides buying mods, I think more people should try their hand at it! My skx broke a few months back while I was doing some manual labor. I took it as a chance to mod it! New movement, new bezel new ceramic insert, new crystal! But most important of all, I aligned the chapter ring myself!
@@islandwatch Marc I was hoping he was going to mention me reaching out to you to help me with a build haha. Thank you sir for the recommendation/pointing me in the right direction btw... Islander def. a future purchase also. Wonderful watches you've designed. The value is incredible.
Just bought 2 modded Yachtmasters - a blue face and a gold / black ceramic with rubber strap. I love them! Especially knowing I’m getting 80+% of the look of the real thing for 2% of the price. One thing that no-one mentions is that it’s a great way to find out if I want to own the real thing without spending tens of thousands: does it fit my lifestyle, is it too heavy, do people notice (no), would I be safe wearing the real thing? I’ll probably buy half a dozen of my favourite Rolex mods and see which one I like best. Will have a lot of fun deciding!
Exactly, well said. I have Seiko Samurai SRPE33 & a Seiko Speedmaster Professional mod. Currently looking at Seiko Daytona Tiffany or Rainbow. Knowing that I can't buy these expensive pieces in my lifetime, it nice to buy a modded piece to see what works with the collection/lifestyle without paying out 1000s on the real thing. Also adds a talking point to why you don't have a Rolex etc.
Nice video... How would you qualify /make the difference between these so called seiko mods and watches for Steeldive, Cronos, SanMartin, which brands provide exactly what you are presenting, models design , specs, quality... with their brands. Steeldive 50 phantoms and willard. Cronos seamaster 300. SanMartin subies, willard, 5711, black bays... ?
I have to say I'm fast becoming more interested in this side of watch collecting. Luxury watches are nice but I see way for fun and personal involvement with modded watches. Great content :)
Fantastic show! Didn’t realise just how big the modding scene was till I got on Instagram!!!! I do love that 62 MAS mod!!!!!! I’m Lovin my Nintendo game and watch right now!! Almost completed Mario 1 again!;) all the best!
Hi, I am 17 and have got at Christmas a seiko srpd85k1 and I have to say I love this watch. But I have a problem, and I do not like the Nato bracelet so super much and I am looking for a replacement bracelet, the best thing is to be made of rubber and round ribbon have impulses... There are quite a few, but my problem is that I want to spend no more than 40€ for a bracelet and it should be best to the u fit, so I guess a black one would not look so good (preferably a brown one). Do you have a recommendation for me? And yes, I know, I’m looking for an egg laying wool milk sow, but maybe I’m lucky and someone here knows one. I actually wanted to buy one of crafter blue, but it is too expensive for one page, which is the smallest problem, because I might be able to persuade my parents, but the bigger problem is that there is no brown with round ribbons.
What’s the verdict on something like San Martin? I personally own the wave dial turtle homage. Sapphire Crystal, fantastic finishing, seiko movements and beautiful styling. I personally adore it and it almost sits in this same category in my eyes 🤷♀️
How can you advertise and recommend creating basically fakes (62mas, Willard with Chinese cases and aftermarket seiko dials) or Rolex style mods with Rolex style cases and Rolex style dials - but with Seiko branding? Mod those dial styles but with another branding than seikos (yobokies, dagaz and so on)
What about moddy's custom watches? Lots of their time piece are very similar to models of patek, Rolex or AP, the images on their website are amazing, but i did not manage to find lots of reviews online so i don't know if they are reliable or not. Do you know them? Would you advice to buy a model on their website?
I have all the parts except the movement coming for a custom Presaga I have a couple of movements in a drawer. I have a blue date wheel coming to match the dial.
Finally you talked about this topic and gotta love the intro ❤️ Quite a few of the big modders left out though, the big players in the community are based in Singapore (namokies), Vietnam (6012), Finland( self winder) Hongkong and not so much North American But otherwise great vid 👌🏻
Thank you for this video. Very informative. Is there a reason why there are some great modded watches on eBay for like $100-150 less than what I’ve seen on Instagram? Probably all the same parts right? Do they just make it up for social media
Oh man great video! Too bad I barely watched it yesterday. Seems FatherTime Watches JUST stopped modding Seiko watches at the moment. Great video, I just started modding recently and I'm just finishing my first watch. Parts procurement is a big factor, you can wait a month and a half for a Captain Willard dial or almost a month for the perfect strap out of Finland.
