That pink and green quilt was nice... how long did it take 'you' to do ? And what is it like to sew with cuddle fabric? How many have 'you' done...?😂😂😂

That was the woodland wander collection - it was lovely. That little crib quilt didn't take long at all!! ;) As for the cuddle......slips like anything so it has to be pinned well. I lost patience with it, but luckily someone helped me out with it and did it for me! Actually I've got another one that needs doing for a customer.... :D Stuart

Now that I have finished watching the vlog I can add another response to what you said in the video. Just like you said about Mandy knitting up that absolutely beautiful lace number and it encourages sales perhaps you could make up a small quilt and hang it over where the fabrics are? Also what if you offered a small class on making said quilt it shouldn't take that long without adding the wadding. You could easily whip that up in an afternoon. Firstly I don't know anything about purchasing fabric from these companies that you deal with but there are companies in America that sell wholesale that you could buy just what you said 2-3 charm packs, 2-3 jelly rolls and layer cakes I'm pretty sure you would get them in a more timely manner than you are currently and it would offer you the variety that your looking for?? Just a thought. Anyway as usual thoroughly enjoyed the vlog can't wait for the next one. xx Angela

Thanks Angela, It's really nice to know that you find the vlogs interesting - we love doing it and sharing everything about the shop and our projects. We love all the comments and how everyone is getting involved in some way. Love your idea and I'm going to try and organise it for our next little kids collection of charm packs and yardage from Moda. It's 'Safari Life' by Stacy Iest Hsu.
As for purchasing fabrics, I do get them wholesale, but precuts are a funny thing. All the American brands that I love do precuts, like Michael Miller, Riley Blake, Hoffman, RJR. Only problem is, they are expensive to then import them and sell them over here - I can just about manage yardage (though it is top end prices, more than Moda). So the reps often dissuade me from buying them from the above companies as they very expensive at cost alone then with the mark up for customers. When sat next to Moda precuts, they may not sell as well or sell as much due to costing so much. This is such a shame as those companies produce wonderful precuts. So unless I choose British companies (only 1 produces precuts - Lewis and Irene) It has to be Moda or none at all. Precuts are so good though. Are you a precut fan?
What are the companies in America that sell wholesale where you can get 2-3 charms? This would be perfect for me! I wonder if they have a UK distributor? Having that variety would be fabulous. As I say, the fabric side of things I've found more challenging running as a shop owner than the wool side. Your help and comments are much appreciated :) Stuart

@@TheWoolpatch The company that I was talking about is Green Fairy Quilt company, I am almost positive they sell wholesale. I buy things from all the companies especially Missouri Star Quilt Company when they have a great deal on one of the precuts. I'll see if I can find out about any other company that you might be able to get from at decent prices without selling a leg!! I had a friend that lived in Australia and we did a soap swap (she was a soap maker too) but it's been probably 6-7 years so I don't remember what the cost of postage was. I wonder if there were a way to get some things that you could order through someone and then have them send them on to you? I know the UK has many rules so... Once again have written an essay as Aine said, just loaded a quilt for quilting so will talk to you soon.. Angela

@@Angela10226 Had a look at the Green Fairy Quilt Company - they are huge. They do a lot of Moda don't they. They are pretty much like me but much bigger, so buying a pack of charm packs or layer cakes won't matter to them, I expect they buy 5 packs of the same collection as they are so big. They do wholesale but only of the quilt patterns which they do. I think the reality is to find more British fabric companies that wow we as much as Michael Miller, Riley Blake and RJR etc. Trouble is, we can pretty much count those companies on one hand. America really loves quilting fabric! Thanks for investigating though :) Stuart

@@TheWoolpatchActually I don't believe that the Green Fairy Company is as big as you may believe from what I've seen, but they do offer the jellycake club where you get one layer cake, one jelly roll and 2 charm packs all for $69 plus reduced international shipping. You get to choose the ones you want your in the club for as long as you want and cancel when you want. I think it's an awesome deal when you consider that they could cost you so much more?? It would be one way you could get your choice of fabric even though it is only Moda. Did you see where I posted the quilt you asked about that I used 3 charm packs for on my Instagram? Also I posted the disappearing nine patch as something that you might be able to teach in the shop especially since Aine is looking to make something out of the Sussex fabric? I think it would be great in that fabric. Have you ever made a disappearing nine patch?

Stuart are you new to the pre cuts? You are giving some information to Aine and anyone else that is not exactly correct. You can not make a single bed quilt out of a charm pack. Here you go you get 42 in the pack. Now you sew them 7 x 6 making a quilt 27 x 31 1/2 inches therefore unless you add a lot of borders there would be no way that you could make it for anything other than a cot. I just made a quilt using charm packs and I used 3 of the same plus the background fabric and it gave me a 78" square quilt.

Aww Angela, you are brilliant. Yes you are of course completely right! I appreciate you correcting me there otherwise Aine and others will start sewing them all together to find it only makes a crib quilt and not a single quilt and they'll be cursing me! I am new-ish to precuts yes - I've only been at it since I left teaching so nearly 3 years now. I mostly make little crib quilts out of the charms (partly because anything bigger on my little machine ends up with puckers, pleats and warping - all that fabric - I need to save up for a long arm!!!) These little charm crib quilts do well at the shop, a charm pack and a few bolts so I can choose yardage for the border and backing makes a lovely little quilt.
I make single quilts out of Jelly Rolls - love a Jelly Roll Race Quilt! I think that's where I was confused saying you can make a quilt out of one pack. It's a shame we can't post pictures in the comments, would love to see your quilt you made from the 3 charm packs. Do you like doing a Jelly Roll Race Quilt? I love the work of Jordan Fabrics and want to do one of their Jelly Roll Race quilts where you can adjust the size by putting in some accent strips. Stuart

@@TheWoolpatch I do use a lot of the pre cuts mostly I use layer cakes because it's just like having 4 charm packs at less than the cost.. The quilt I told you about that I made using 3 charms I paid $3 per and bought 4 of them they were on sale. I posted the quilt on my Instagram so you could see it. I love jelly rolls as well and I do watch a lot of the Missouri Star tutorials but I just can't watch the Jordan fabrics ones I find her fingernails so distracting that I can't concentrate on what she is showing because they constantly zoom in on her hands. Missouri Star has a similar jelly roll race quilt to what Donna made.
Now what kind of machine do you have? I have already quilted a full size quilt on my domestic machine, it really is important to make sure that all the layers are really secure when quilting you don't need a longarm for doing that although there is nothing wrong with having one especially when you have the shop to set it up in. There is a quilt pattern that I think would be perfect for Aine and Simon in those fabrics that she liked so much all she needs is a layer cake and some yardage. Angela

Angela10226 nice to hear you’re a fan of Missouri quilt co too. I’ve pretty much learned all my skills from Jenny! The jelly roll race was one of my first pieces of patchwork I did! Hahah yeah I know what you mean about the Jordan fabrics lady. I love her huge shop and workshop area!!!
My machine is a tiny basic Janome non computerised. I think I’ll save up for a posh one with a bigger throat and then maybe I may attempt a bigger quilt again. Yes glue and pinned to the hilt if I was quilting to ensure it all works. It’s just all that fabric on my little machine makes quilting not as fun but I’m a huge fan of straight line quilting. I don’t do fancy curves or circles haha.
Ooo what’s the quilt pattern you think would be good for Aine?
Are you on insta? What’s your handle and I’ll go follow you and see your quilt!!! Wahoo!!

@@TheWoolpatch The machine that I first quilted on was a Janome non computerized as well I just gifted it to a friends grand daughter 3 years ago. I was able to quilt a probably 40 x 58 inch quilt that was before straight line was popular. You just have to know how to roll it in the 5" harp area.
Anyway there are 2 patterns that I think would be great for Aine to learn, the first and my favorite is the disappearing nine patch and the other is the double slice quilt both are Missouri Star patterns.
You do follow me on Instagram. I sent you a DM today so once you see it you will know who I am. Angela
