I’m so glad you guys are watching this. After you guys watch the 7th film, you HAVE to watch the 20th year anniversary. It was filmed on the original sets, with the cast and directors. It is extremely emotional, but ends the series so well. ❤
17:38 - Emma was SO YOUNG, when the film was released she had just turned eleven. When it was filming she was 9 and 10. She was the most intelligent person on the set though, she knew exactly which character she was auditioning for and her parents were terrified what to do if she didn’t get it. 😂

The goblin’s voice wasn’t altered. He’s played by the same actor that played Willow when he was still a very young man. His voice is very distinctive.

Haha. I feel this way about a lot of the reaction video channels. Especially “nerd culture” videos where they have some reaction to a massive movie like Infinity War a few weeks after it comes out on streaming… like dude… we know you saw it in the theaters.
But I trust Rob & Trin WAY more than other channels.
@@patrickwrye8450 About 60% of Americans and 60% of the UK have seen at least one of the movies. That's roughly 240 million people in those two countries that haven't seen any of the Potter movies. It's reasonable in that regard.

2) the likelihood of it drops rapidly once you account for those that have missed it that are between the ages of 30-45
something you might've missed-- when oliver wood is teaching harry about quidditch, once the golden snitch starts flying around, oliver immediately loses track of it while harry watches it the whole time!
The book was renamed The Sorcerers Stone in America because they didn't think they understand what philosophers stone meant
Is that why? I heard it was because an American Christian audience would have been turned off by the title Philosophers Stone…
(Although you’d think the subject matter of witchcraft might be more of a turn off to Christian folk? 🤔 )

The words don’t mean the same in both countries like the part of your car where you store things is called both a trunk and a boot… philosopher’s stone wouldn’t resonate with American audiences because a philosopher is not typically thought of as a magical/wizard type person.

It’s someone who teaches or studies Philosophy…nothing to do with sorcery or magic so it seems strange that despite the 2 words having different meanings everywhere, the publishers only changed the title for an American audience
I’m starting think OP might be right and maybe they just thought Americans were too dumb to understand so they thought they needed to change the title for that reason 😬
I was already almost 40 years old when this came out. How I wish I was 9, 10 or 11 because for sure I would have been hoping beyond hope that a letter would show up for me.
When these movies came out I was the exact same age as the characters in every movie. It felt like I was growing up friends from a different school and seeing all of the magical things they went through.

The author named the book "and the Philosopher's Stone" because the story is based on the mythical object called the Philosopher's Stone which existed prior to Harry Potter (even Indiana Jones sought it out in one of his adventures).
When the book got brought to the states they changed it to Sorcerer's Stone because it sounded more magical, but they were missing the whole point of what the Philosopher's Stone was and what it can do.
I prefer the theory that they changed the name because that were worried americans wouldn't know what a philosopher is.
@@joma185 That's always been what I figured as well. Certainly wouldn't be the first thing they'd dumbed down for us Americans.
If youve never seen these movies the first few are kids movies but as the movies go they get darker and darker your in for an amazing ride!

Probably about 5 years ago I watched them again. I love them and I'm pretty sure you will too.
Fun fact, I was living in America from 2002 to 03. It's called the Sorcerers Stone in America because they didn't recognise the word Philosopher 🤷🏻♂️

I found you guys with the walking dead, but i never expected you haven't seen this and I'm happy to see your journey with it. I was bored with my music at work and was playing hogwarts legacy at the time so at work i listened to the harry potter audio books. Can't wait to see what you guys think.
Btw the reason the titles for this movie change is because America doesn't really know what the philosophers stone is in mythology so it was changed to sorcerers. The canon version is the philosophers stone.
Edit: oh by the way, in the books harry has magical things happen before present day, minor things really like his hair being messy, his aunt cutting it and it growing back the same overnight
Edit 2: This is discussing harrys wealth. It doesn't take a major role in the films, or the books really but could be classed as spoilers.
Harrys wealth comes from his dad's side, the magical side, of his family. Harry is related to a few great potioniers which is where the name "Potter" comes from. There are a few potions owned by the potters and every time one is sold the potters make royalties on them, and harry is the sole beneficiary of that wealth
It's called the Philosopher's Stone. They changed the name in America with the book and film because they thought American kids wouldn't care for a book with Philosopher in the title.
Sadly, they were right.

Flamel was a real person from the 14th century and rumors about him creating the philosophers stone started in the 17th century. Let people learn.

@@jspettifer I’m not saying I disagree with you, just pointing out why the publishers probably went with the alternate title. Their main goal would be to get people to buy the book, after all no-one can read, enjoy or learn from the story unless they first buy the book. For whatever reason (I assume market research) they believed the alternate title would sell better in America so I can see why they would pick it. Whether or not that was the correct decision is another matter entirely…
I’m so excited for this! Wow. I grew up just under Harry’s age. I don’t think there will be another series of films with a cast that grows up with a lot of its audience for 10+ years. I have so much nostalgia for these movie, we watched them every Christmas, and I’m so jealous of you guys getting to watch these for a first time. Happy Holidays, guys.

It's easy to forget, but the actors playing the Dursleys (Richard Griffiths, Fiona Shaw and Harry Melling) did a great job!
They really make you freaking *_hate_* the Dursleys.

I took a quiz to see what house i was in for Hogwarts Legacy the newest Harrypotter universe game. I got put into Ravenclaw😌
They take the boats first year basically to AWE the students... every other year they get to the castle other ways

I’m Hufflepuff we are smart creative, loyal, friendly, Ravenclaw are smart, intelligent into studying, books following rules academic leaders . Slithering will do whatever to win. They’re cunning smart they can be great at manipulation just because you’re in Slytherin doesn’t mean that you’re necessarily bad you’ll just do whatever it takes to win. Gryffindor are very brave. They don’t mind breaking the rules. If it means that they’ll help the greater good they’re very adventurous. Each house has good attributes and bad.

Actually, Rob. In the UK we call it The Philosopher's Stone, it's only called Sorcerer's Stone over in America. No idea why they call it that.
They thought that having philosopher in the title would confuse people, thinking it's about philosophy.... The reason is really dumb, but true non the less

it doesn't really matter but Sorcerer's Stone - American / Philosophers Stone - English, Hollywood didn't think Americans would know what a Philosopher was.
Rob you definitly strike me as a southerner, the accent sounds local to me (Sussex/Surrey) Surrey is where the real Privet drive is, you can visit it, its also Canon that HP is from Surrey.

I am a huge Harry Potter fan - have read and/listened to the series about a dozen times. The books are of course much better than the movies, but they are a fun time nonetheless and I am excited to take this magical journey with you guys!

I'm with Trin. Gryffindor's overdone to death, Slytherin's where the evil ones go, and Hufflepuff's an embarrassingly silly name. So, yes - Ravenclaw.
Clarification: I meant to say that Gryffindor is real-world over-exposed - too "high profile" for me. In the MCU, the more I saw Iron Man in movies and stuff, the faster I got tired of him. Same with Gryffindor; when the HP movies started, Gryffindor was highly popular, and I quickly got worn out on it.

I saw all the movies except the first one in the theater. Another classic theme to add to John Williams' movie series score repertoire. Can't wait to join you on the rest of this magical journey! 🪄🧙♂️🦉😊❤FYI - McGonagall gave Harry the broomstick because she's head of Gryffindor House and wanted them to win. Maybe a little favoritism too. Lol. 😊

The one thing I've always loved about. Harry Potter is the bunch of mythical creatures it includes..... My favorite being that 3 headed dog you saw called Cerberus.... Guard dog of the Underworld. What's your favorite?
The music was done by arguably the greatest composer of movie themes of all time, John Williams, who wrote the theme for Harry Potter, Star Wars, Jurassic Park, E.T., Raiders of the Lost Ark, Schindler's List, and of course, Jaws, among others. What a resumé.

One of the most impressive things about this movie, is that these child actors were really good.

Many miss the subtle Easter egg in the seen where Harry is first talked to by Professor Snape. The question he asks Harry; "What would I get if I added powdered root of asphodel to an infusion of wormwood?" If you take the meanings from a floral dictionaries from the Victorian era rather then the scientific or literal. Asphodel is a type of lily meaning "my regrets follow you to the grave" Hence why they are the most given at funerals, and wormwood means "absence and symbolizes bitter sorrow". So by asking about asphodel and wormwood, Snape is essentially saying in code to Harry "I bitterly regret Lily‘s death." Spoiler! Yes Snape had it BAD for Harries Mom. But hay, everyone loves a Ginger :) Thats why Red hair is the base color of all hare globally. We get around. LMAO
Here's a breakdown on the rules of Quidditch:
7 players per team, 4 balls
3 chasers, they take the quaffle and throw it through one of 3 hoops, earning 10 points
2 beaters, equipped with bats, they knock the bludgers into the opponents
1 keeper, the goal keeper for the hoops
1 seeker, they need to catch the snitch. The game is over when the snitch is caught. The seeker who catches the snitch earns 150 points for their team
The quaffle is basically a flying ball
Bludgeors are aggressive and will knock players off of their brooms
The snitch is small and fast and will fly away, game is over when it is caught
Games can last indefinitely if the snitch is not caught, but it is not necessarily an automatic win. The team that catches the snitch needs to be at a 160 point disadvantage to lose

Wonderful to watch you being enveloped by this rich, gorgeous world! I can relate to that yearning for old-fashioned brick-and-mortar shops.
People will tell you to go to the Potter-worlds in London or Universal Studios, but those are ersatz repros of ye proper olde town. For the real thing head to York, England (look up 'The Shambles'!) or go to my native Denmark: see 'the old town' (Den Gamle By) in Aarhus or head to the small time-capsule of the island of Aeroe.
And I had to return to this comment to mention the Jacobite Steam Train (which does a stellar job as the Hogwarts Express).

with McGonnagal buying Harry the broom, its a sum of two things: 1) minors cant purchase their brooms; only parents can. 2) Harry has no parents and she knows his aunt & uncle wont support him, so since he made the team she bought the broom for him. It was less favoritism, and more "he cant do it on his own, and i want my team to win!" (she was on the team the same year as Harrys Dad)
