The very fact that, not only did Sega release a game with this many bugs, but they released a game with this many bugs as a MILESTONE CELEBRATION for their MOST POPULAR FRANCHISE just pisses me off. I don't care if people think this is still a good game. I don't care if I get so much hate for this. I don't care if they tried to rush this game for the holidays to stay in the deadline of this being a milestone game. Actually, scratch that last part, I do care. They could have easily started a year prior to when they did. They could have easily done what they did for Sonic's 5th: Make a simple game with simple mechanics that, although did add something new, was still true to the feel of the originals. They could have easily pushed the deadline ahead for 2007. But they didn't.
They did so many things wrong with this, not only in-game wise, but development-wise as well. Why the hell would you split your team of developers in half and expect them to be able to completely finish a playable game?
They really wrecked the anniversary game. This games music is decent and the HD cut scenes look really good, but they had to wreck a good running series like this! I dream of a world where Sonic 06 was a great game.
The reason why this game turned out the way it is is because with Yuji Naka living the team during development, rushing to meet the holiday deadline, Sonic Team was on pressure so you really cannot blame them.
For all the defenders making comments telling people to just avoid these glitches: Are you telling me that you would play a game with more ridiculous glitches than this, and just tell yourself to avoid them to have a good time playing? Wouldn't it be better if, I don't know, there weren't fucking glitches to begin with? Yeah, I know, tons of games have glitches. But not as many or as obvious ones that interrupt gameplay like this. Sonic '06 isn't as bad as E.T or Superman 64, I'll admit, but it's fucking up there.
Well this game managed to get a few things right in my opinion. - The Soundtrack. (Easily the only thing widely praised in the game) - Shadow's story. (It was written by the genius behind SA2. *Shiro Maekawa*) - Introducing Silver. (Say what you want about him imo he is an underrated badass!) - Mephiles. (Another underrated badass who was a great villain for Shadow) - The concept. (While poorly executed had great potential) - Shadow kicking Silver in the head. (What can I say? Shadow is a BOSS!) - This is easily the most discussed Sonic game in the franchise. (Whether that is a good or bad thing is up to you) If there is anything else you guys can find that this game did right let me know cause this is the most i could come up with :P
Wrong. There are no redeeming qualities to this game. The fact that anyone still pays any amount of money on this half finished piece of shit is sad. Generations did it right by stripping away all these retarded and unnecessary characters and stupid gameplay gimmicks. Though, of course, instead of taking an actual good idea with the franchise and rolling with it, they instead fuck it up again with Sonic Lost Worlds and the more recently Sonic Boom. They might as well take Sonic to the backyard, grab the shotgun and get it over with already.

Well, yeah, it does make sense. But it only costed one life for me and after it happened once I figured it out, so it wasn't too much of a problem for me, but it's mostly due to the person entering the thing too far to the right. So it is unfair, but it doesn't ruin the entire game to the point where it's unplayable.
Geometry Dash xMarco Kind of, yeah. It means the game is following a script. Like a cinematic scene. It plays out the exact same way every single time (or, at least, that's the intent). Some scripted scenes also don't let you control them, but the term "scripted" can also just mean a predetermined sequence of events.
What Sonic 06 fans need to realize is, it's okay to like the game. It just isn't a good game. Liking Sonic 06 doesn't make it good. It's a bad game, accept that it's a bad game. You can still play it, love it, but stop trying to white knight the damn thing with some of the most batshit insane excuses. Like it? Good. But that doesn't make it a good game. And if you really do like it, than you shouldn't care if it's good or bad.

The core purpose of a game is entertainment; failing that, it's considered work. If someone enjoys torture as a right of passage, then good for them. Though I think the game is redeemed a bit based on the fact it's fun to watch others play.

The glitches are the least of this game's problems. First off, you've got the half-assed story. Sonic's entire story is literally nothing but, "Elise gets captured, go rescue her." Again. And again. _And again_. This is a Sonic game where Sonic himself has absolutely nothing to do with the actual plot. Shadow and Silver's are a little better, but that isn't saying much. It's got enough shoehorned melodrama to fill several episodes worth of soap operas, because it wants you to know that, "this is game is serious! Actions have consequences and no one can be trusted!" This is a game about a goddamn talking hedgehog. Taking itself too seriously makes it look more stupid than the fanfiction written for it on deviantart. At the very end, it all gets retconed anyway, making the entire game totally pointless. Second, the levels. There's some decent design and a few okay ideas, but visually/style-wise, they're awfully bland and uninspired (except for Crisis City, but I'm a sucker for big open city levels and _maybe_ Kingdom Valley). Third, the hub worlds. They're completely unnecessary and there's nothing to do in them. Sure, you can do the town missions, but even if those weren't blatantly unfun bullshit, they still have no effect on the game. You can _completely ignore them_ and the game will not be any different. Forth, the controls. Controlling characters in this game feels so ridiculously stiff. When Sonic does a homing attack, it takes forever for him just to hit the next enemy, yet in the demo, it was as fluid as it was in SA2! Wtf happened?! The same goes for Shadow, only if you buy the stupid upgrades, it's even worse because you're stuck hitting the air until his combo finishes before you can move on. You'll be lucky if an enemy doesn't hit you while you're doing this. Silver feels the easiest to control, but the camera certainly hinders it a bit. Fifth, the upgrades. They're pointless. Shadow's chaos blast does jack shit, Silver's "speed boost" does jack shit, and nearly all of Sonic's gems do jack shit. The only upgrades worth getting are the red gem (for easy A ranks) and the purple gem (infinite jumping). Sixth, every character shares the same levels. I'd argue that Sonic Heroes could get away with this because the levels were large and fairly imaginative. Here it's just a chore to shuffle through some of these stages. And even when they try to spice things up, it fails. Shadow's hangglider is fucking stupid, and so is his jeep. Perhaps the worst thing of all was that this was intended to be a reboot to the franchise. Even _if_ the game hadn't been rushed and had half the content it promised it would, it would still be a mess of a game that makes Final Fight Streetwise look like a competent reboot of a franchise. The _ONLY_ thing this game has going for it is it's wonderful soundtrack.
Dynamite Grizzly i actually like the game i think that the gameplay and level design is great but the story is like a fanfiction especially sonic whos entire story is just saving elise and eggman boss fight is dissapointing. but still i thing the game is fun the level design and the music is great.

This game had such a potencial The new characters: blaze and silver, are awsome, the villain is pretty good The scenarios are amazing, and the history have some good parts, like silver trying to kill sonic because of the bad future But, there are SO MANY BUGS AND GAMEPLAY PROBLEMS that ruined the game Ps: i dont like that princess too, it an unecessary character, and the relationship with sonic was really idiot, they could be just friends and it would be ok
I agree. My favorite part was the end of Silvers story, or his ending cutscene. I was so emotional and made the story perfect at the same time. The story line is great, but not the gameplay really
ALL GLITCHES EXPLAINED 1. Getting stuck is not a glitch The controls were badly programmed meaning that when you go on angled walls if you were hitting up and went on a wall you would get stuck because the programming is programmed for sonic on a wall to hit left or right when on walls to move forward Many people don't even try to find out why this "glitch" happens so they just keep playing normally and crap like this happens to them 2. Again not a glitch Bad programming again, they obviously put the speaking dialogue that tails says just a few steps after the hole with the switch Meaning they should have put it more than a few steps and the other way! I'd have out it where search light is if anyone remembers where that is The result to this error is when people normally would walk past the hole it would trigger tails to say that but even after you get the switch and walk to that trigger he says it :-/ 3. A strange one definitely It looks to be like there is a bug in the loop to loop, or a buggy area in a certain point that can lead to this glitch only if the characters is gliding on water and hits a particular point in the loop to loop at the right place, i think you need speed as well 4. clearly nobody knows a thing about the physics of the loop to loops. they are magnets pretty much if a character is on them, they cant get off them when running, but if standing still you can jump out of it, but not if your at the top of it at 2:00 bad programming yet again, and many other glitches can be performed using the magnet and none magnet platforms if you think of it rails have magnets as well which is how another glitch is performed using the half magnet/none magnet glitch called the "level skip" 5. yet again bad programming because there is a magnet not allowing sonic to move left or right he cant move at all and if sonic moves onto that loop to loop on the right side more the chance he will miss the speed ramps and run off and fall to death or another glitch sonic hits 2 of the speed ramps at the same time which angles sonic differently which angles sonic directly leading him to the goal not needing to jump from wall to wall or faster you can glitch yourself out of the magnet by jumping at a weak part of the magnet which is right at the end of the loop to loop and jump over the speed ramps and land into victory 6. not a glitch a bug in sonics falling, normally when jumping you fall at a decent pace unable to move in the air when sonic hits a speed ramp and doesn't move the D-Pad after hitting it, he will fall downward not moving forward at all leading to sonic land at that certain point which kills sonic, since running into walls leads to death, and since that wall is to long and sonic is unable to jump when hit, it leads to a death if you are holding the D-Pad forward after hitting the speed ramp you should get a quick move in the air which leads to you moving to safety you can only move when you begin to fall downward, you can move right as your about to it that fence which leads to a lucky close death 7. makes sense if you look at whats really happening there are 2 things that kill sonic, having a physical kill or a falling kill if a character is falling to death and lands on a solid they will then act as if they had a physical attack and say what ever they would say if they got hit, for sonic "ooh" "no" since you standing on a solid ground when you run into the water he will try to sink/fall and since hes standing on a solid at the same time that leads to that weird death but for the reason why he was standing and still moving i think its because hes on terrain that has water which leads to slow moving death waiting to happen 8. again, look at the real picture hes trying to jump off on an angle with the camera being on angle and knuckles trying to jump off while moving at the same time, this particular game is programmed weird, where you have to be still in order to jump out of magnet walls and or solids i can tell you now that if he didn't move at all and hold the jump button for some time, he would jump off the wall 9. come on this is obvious silver is programmed to pick up the enemy immediately after he does what he was doing, which was throwing sonic and because sonic loses rings where he gets thrown its an endless cycle 10. very bad programming in my opinion sadly the vehicle can move to left right up and down which is programmed to a certain extent unfortunately they didn't program it to stop at the solid terrain and the result is the vehicle going into the solids 11. this one is a bit interesting the character is trying to get onto a rail while on 3 at the same time left, right, and the current one that leads forward because the your falling off and onto the rail constantly your able to move left and right and get that result and until the character faces a straight path for the character to follow or jumps, the glitch will remain 12. ive already explained. but ill explain it once more he fell off for a good reason, you hit the the patch of ground that shoots lava out of the reason why you fell off and didn't run over it is because, the patch is sticking out of the ground which is just a layer higher, and is a solid, so if ran on with an angle, you will fall! 13. a very interesting glitch if any attack/friction i caused with this particular object at the right height and angle, you can make the object jump up, and the more faster you add friction to it, the more higher and faster you will get, and since sonic cant spin attack faster he can only go at a certain pace and this is the result 14. makes sense when you look at the real picture he stands on 2 terrain solids at the same time leads to this, and since the camera follows sonic, this is the result 15. if sonic spin dashes a speed pad, he runs quite faster than normal and if sonic is angled towards a possible death then the result is him keeping the current speed and falls off to death and the reason why the speed randomly ends before he dies is because the time the speed pad was supposed to end, then happens and the speed he has ends just like that 16. the rock is a solid, and is an obstacle so obviously you can get hit and be killed even though it shouldn't be an obstacle, it is a solid, which means it can me hit, and cause you to die bad programming again 17. if there is a level with tails or knuckles or anyone that is playable in a level, then there will always be another sonic because after that character plays there part you normally go back to sonic, since the 1st sonic gets deleted a new sonic must be in the level meaning there are 2 sonics in other character levels 18. two things 1 the first launch is a homing attack glitch which is caused by a magnet and a none magnet glitch with the homing attack. and since blaze's homing attacks are a bit different its a lot easier and or harder to do at different places 2 the reason he died is because when he hit the last spring obviously he was angled a bit wrong and the result was landing in the fall/hit death 19. this one is a bad character programming when you first press to hover the first second it starts, obviously it doesn't move downward and if you repeat this by repeatedly tapping, you get that result also 9:36 again its a trigger for shadow since your supposed to be shadow (what did you expect omega to say it) also sonic doesn't have any enemies because he is not supposed to be playing that part of level, you can only get there by WO skip glitch, and or purple gem/sky gem I think that covers everything thank you all for reading this long comment
It’s because of the ‘muh ambition’ common amongst these new sonic fans. It’s like they fail to realize that having ambition for something that you KNOW can’t possibly be achieved is a bad thing. That’s why I have an immense respect for some of the 2010 games like colours or generations over something like 06. Obviously colours is good while generations is legit amazing, but a lot of ‘fans’ like to slander those games purely for not being ‘ambitious’ enough. Personally though, I think it’s better to provide your fans with a smaller scale, but overall fantastic experience, than an over ambitious clunker like 06.
Wow I am just baffled at the amount of Sonic fanboys in the comments section that actually blindly defended this broken mess of a game, considering we're talking about a game that almost KILLED the Sonic franchise & damaged the franchise's reputation really badly for just how broken & unplayable it is & was released on the year that was supposed to celebrate the franchise's 15, anniversary...Not to mention the fanboys poorly defending the glitches in this game by saying "Well, all games have glitches!" Yes it's true that all games have glitches, but not every game has mountain loads of glitches that are so broken, so easy to find & can ruin the experience for a lot of people like the glitches in 06. If that was the case, then critically acclaimed games like Mario Galaxy, Overwatch & Mass Effect 2 wouldn't have received game of the year awards...

I thought this game was universally considered bad (for obvious reasons, as shown on this video + many others) but after reading some of the comments...uhm, what the fuck? Some people actually like this game? I mean, I could understand if this was the first game you ever played (in which case, at around this time you must be like, what, 10?) but you still have to admit that this IS a bad game...I don't blame anybody for liking a bad game, but when they become ignorant fanatics and actually say the game is good, then it can be seen as a problem.

Hey, the only thing that does it justice is the music. And even that's not really enough to make me want to be in the same room as the game disc to this.
Honestly, I'm happy this game existed. It was so awful, that even Sega saw. And they wanted to make sure they never did it again. Say what you want about the games that came after - even if you didn't find them "fun" - you can tell they actually started caring about not making things a glitchfest.
Sonic Forces had little to no potential, Sonic 06's potential really hurt the game so much which why I still think it's the worst Sonic game. Great potential put to waist

It's a shame, really. If Sonic Team were to remake Sonic 06, but with all the glitches fixed, improved gameplay and controls, better graphics, and the bestiality scene removed, I would probably buy it and play it in it's entirety.
Game's bugs competition! Sonic '06: I'm a UNFINISHED game and I have some no corrected bugs that makes people angry. GTA San Andreas: I have many BETA content hidden in underworld and the game's files that makes people very angry and makes mods for unhide it in PC version. PES 2013: I have annoying bugs and that makes me a BETA version :P WWE SmackDown vs RAW 2011: My PS2 version makes people very, very angry with all my bugs and deleted contents, buy me in PS3 and Xbox360 for no problems. I love Sonic, but oddly enough, this one didn't feel right with me and I never bought it. When I bought Unleashed, I really enjoyed it and wondered why the 2006 game had been said to be such a bad game. The thought popped into my mind a few times to perhaps play it... I now finally went to check why it's so bad. I'm glad I never bought that game.
It's a shame because I think this game would have been way cooler if SEGA had fixed the bugs and...well...actually FINISHED IT. Much like the Wii-U, Sonic 06=epic rush-fail, but good concept.
I don't know what you are talking about when you said WiiU. I don't see any glitches or bugs. I honestly don't see any problem with it either, maybe other than the short battery life, but you can just keep it plugged in.

Sonic 06 is a bad game, but it's far from the worst game of all time. Hell, it's far from the worst Sonic game of all time. I'd play this over Secret Rings, Sonic Labyrinth, Sonic Drift 1 and 2, and, ESPECIALLY, Sonic 2 8 bit. Btw, don't harp on anyone's opinion if they happen to enjoy the game. If they enjoy it, let them enjoy it.

I watched this video when i was 6 when i could barely read. When I first saw this game I never got to play it but I thought it was the greatest thing on planet earth. When I saw this video I genuinely thought it meant bad as in a good thing like badass or something, not even taking the contents of the video into account. Needless to say I was a dumb child.
Well, I have finally completed this game fully today. Got the last two silver medals after much faffing around. I had to come back to watch this video as I liked it a while back and have seen a lot of these glitches. It's going to be the only reason I play the game now just to upload the randomness! Without beating a dead horse, this game is VERY bad and could of been so much more. When finishing the game I looked back on the experience and have seen this game have so much potential. The main gripe is obviously the bugs and glitches that happen as you play. I'll admit that there is fun to be had figuring out how to trigger them though. I would love for this game to be redone but I believe SEGA doesn't want to even get a whiff of anything Sonic '06 related.
The fact that there are people who will defend this game is hilarious. Sonic moves slow as shit, the controls are god damn impossible, the textures are shit, the environments are unfinished, the glitches are god damn endless, the animations are awful, the character designs/models are nightmarish, the voice acting is poorly done, the gameplay in general is unpolished and bad, and the convoluted, bestiality-filled, necrophilic, fanfiction quality shitshow of a "story" is so laughably bad it's almost funny. You just can't defend this game. Plain and simple. You can like it all you want, but you cannot honestly look at this game and say "Yes, this is a good quality product, and deserving of praise.". It is a terrible game, end of story. So don't even bother.

This game would have been awesome but this turned out to be the Worst thing ever made The is the worst story in a Sonic game Glitches and Bugs The Controls The Voice Acting sucks (Only Eggman and Blaze has good voice acting) Rushed out to meet the 15th anniversary of Sonic when it could have been delayed to November 2007 Shiro Maekawa clearly favors Shadow (I don't hate Shadow but the title is called Sonic the Hedgehog not Shadow the Hedgehog 2) Shadow the Hedgehog wrapped up Shadow's character arc and this game should have opened a Character Arc for Silver and have Silver's character arc pick up from the Sonic Rivals games and still have Shadow in Sonic Rivals and introduce Him as a G.U.N Agent in the Sonic Rivals game. Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Amy, Silver, Eggman, Elise and Mephiles would have been better for Sonic 06. Mephiles is one of the worst characters right next to Big the Cat, Omochao, Elise, Marine the Raccoon, Black Doom and Infinite I can't believe years later that Sonic Fanboys would defend this trash when this game came out Sonic was a laughing stock on the internet with games like This, Shadow the Hedgehog, Sonic Riders, Sonic Rivals 1, Sonic and the Secret Rings, Sonic Rivals 2, Sonic Riders: Zero Gravity, Sonic Chronicles the Dark Brotherhood and Sonic and the Black Knight (yeah Sonic Rush and Sonic Rush Adventure where good). If it was not for Sonic Unleashed HD I would have given up on Sonic and We got games like Sonic Colors, Sonic Generations and Sonic Mania/Sonic Mania Plus. Yeah there was Sonic The Hedgehog 4: Episode 1, Sonic Free Riders, Sonic The Hedgehog 4: Episode Metal, Sonic The Hedgehog 4: Episode 2, Sonic Lost World (I kinda like the Wii U/PC versions of the game 3DS version sucks), Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric, Sonic Boom: Shattered Crystals and Sonic Forces. But Sonic 06 did so much damage not only to the series and gave birth to the Sonic Cycle. But made the Fanbase one of the worst Fanbases on the Internet right next to Super Smash Bros. no one knows the ways this game works 5:24 you fell off for a good reason, you hit the the patch of ground that shoots lava out of the reason why you fell off and didn't run over it is because, the patch is sticking out of the ground which is just a layer higher, and is a solid, so if ran on with an angle, you will fall!

***** I never found those issues to really be something that was seriously awful. Yes, Knuckles' combat is shit, Sonic's not TOO slow, the Billiard Puzzle is EASY if you take your time with Silver. Not EASY, but nowhere near as hard as people make it out to be. Yes, Amy is a terrible character to play as, but you only play as her a few times. Same goes for Knuckles. I never really jumped into enemies, I always homing attack/spindash/slide/somersault into them. It's a fact that this game has bad coding, but even with bad coding, it's still possible to enjoy something. The best term I can give is that Ignorance is Bliss. I recently got this game from my brother's friend, and started playing knowing it was going to be a glitchy, buggy, broken mess that I would just keep around for laughs. The game had a good story and a really great villain but the gameplay was terrible I cannot count how many times I had fall off when I was running on the side of building or platform it would be great if they did a remaster and get rid all of the bugs and glitches.

I don't hate 06 but there's no denying that it's a rushed and unfinished game. Gameplay wise, parts of it are decent but it sadly remains to be quite broken. The problem with 06 started when Yuji Naka decided to leave during development of the game thus put pressure on the rest of the team and correct me if I'm wrong but apparently some of the people in the 06 team started working on Secret Rings which meant only half of the team was left working on 06? I'm not sure if that's entirely correct but based on what I've heard and seen, it did seem that way as the team started to decrease due to focus on 06 being lost and many people claim that it was Microsoft and Sony's fault but it really wasn't and I still have yet to see any prove of it. It was SEGA who decided to rush the team in order to make it before the deadline therefore putting more pressure which resulted into the game being rushed and left in quite a mess. I believe it was also planned to be ported to the Wii too but that was obviously cancelled later on. From the BETA footage, we can see that there would have been a "day and night" system in the game which looked rather interesting and would transition depending on the amount of time spent in the stage but was sadly scrapped for unknown reasons (But this was something that would later return in Unleashed.) Sonic's homing attack also looks more fluid and he does flips while performing the attack. It also looked much powerful in the early versions of the game and he actually doesn't lose momentum when doing it. It seems they started to lose a sense of direction with the development of the game after Naka left. The deadline was also Christmas and they probably didn't want to push it further back for sales and the fact that it was an anniversary game but I think it really would have benefited them more if they took their time and pushed it back. I was so excited for this game as a kid. When I got in 2006, I liked it and was so pysched but then when I played the whole game sometime later at an older age, I started to quickly realise the problems with the game. it's such a huge shame. I think the beta footage showed real pontential and there are some things I like in the final version, however it's not enough to make me really love the game as a whole. I really think Naka made the mistake of leaving during development and SEGA worsened it by rushing the developers to make it before the deadline. In terms of playability, Blaze is the main and primary playable character that works pretty well and I actually have fun playing with her as I didn't experience any problems with her and it's annoying that you don't get to play as her very often. Sonic is actually decent too aside from the mach sections, the controls are just way too sensitive. Omega is pretty fine too. Unfortunately, everyone else felt rather slow with Amy unfortunately being the weakest of the bunch. The story was a bit of mess and there are quite a lot of inconsistencies. I like the idea for the story but the inconsistent writing makes it hard to follow. The voice acting is varies from both good to quite average but it's not the absolute worst I've heard. The voice direction also plays a part in this too but it wasn't a major problem for me at all. Metal Sonic was also originally supposed to be playable from what I've heard and all the supporting characters would have had their own storylines in single player too as well as being in multiplayer too. You would have also been able to unlock songs from past Sonic games. I do like some things in this game such as: Shadow's story, Silver and his abilities, Blaze, the music, the CGI cutscenes, most of the voice acting, some of level design in certain stages and the final boss against Solaris. Unfortunately as you can see, it's not a huge amount but those are the only things that stand out as good or decent to me in the game. The rest is pretty much a mess. I have to mention though, I didn't really encounter many of these gltiches aside from a minority now and then. I just think it's such a huge shame. Again, I don't hate this game but the lost potential really shows and I feel they should have taken much more care with this game, considering it was the 15th Anniversary game. It's unlikely that we will ever see a remake because so many things would need to repatched and not just the gameplay either. Having said that, I do want SEGA/Sonic team to go back to this gameplay. The Adventure based gameplay and what 06 tried to bring back. I'm not bothered if it's not Adventure 3 but I just want a Sonic game that has the Adventure style gameplay where all characters move at a good sense of speed as well as having their own unique abilities. That is what I truly want to see return in a Sonic game but I highly doubt I'll be seeing that anytime soon which saddens me but I can only hope that one day it will happen. Overall, Sonic 06 is a game that offers some good and decent content but remains to be rushed and unfinished with lost potential which unfortunately brought more bad than good and ends up being rather messy. To be honest, I do get some enjoyment from this game but at the same time, the bad parts also show too.

Sonic 06 is a bad game imo. This game could've been great but almost everything was butchered. Bad story, too many glitches, most of the characters have bad playstyles, camera was bad, long load times, a terrible save system, all of these flaws are unacceptable and I can't believe people are actually trying to defend them. 06 turned this franchise into a laughing stock, and created a huge hate bandwagon for Sonic. Thankfully Unleashed, Rush Adventure, and the Olympic games were there but they weren't enough to save Sonic. Sonic 06 may bring some positives to me like the kick ass soundtrack and the scene where shadow kicks silver's head but deep down it is the game that would tarnish Sonic's reputation. It's not the worst sonic game but definitely one of them.
I actually liked this game when I was a kid, the bugs were features for me! 3D Sonic Games are buggy in general, however their target demo was pre teens and young kids who don't really care about bugs unless they actually stop them from playing the game. To them these kinds of bugs are fun secrets rather than embarrassments, at least the ones like Omega going to Shadows level. This guy didn't even include Sonic with the Chaos Emeralds which were utterly broken. Sonic Team had little incentive to change what they were doing, this game sold well at the time. Keep in mind, this was out a year after Shadow the Hedgehog was released, a far more embarrassing game story wise. Sonic is a weird franchise now, I think because of this game and Shadow they inadvertently helped nurture a weird fanbase that at this point either you're doing classic sonic or you're taking the piss out of it with the tv show.
Some people would argue that this game being awful is why they like it: it's so horrible that it loops right around to being good. Still, as bad as the game is, it does have one redeeming feature: it has awesome music.

The very fact that, not only did Sega release a game with this many bugs, but they released a game with this many bugs as a MILESTONE CELEBRATION for their MOST POPULAR FRANCHISE just pisses me off.

They could have easily started a year prior to when they did. They could have easily done what they did for Sonic's 5th: Make a simple game with simple mechanics that, although did add something new, was still true to the feel of the originals. They could have easily pushed the deadline ahead for 2007. But they didn't.

The Super Coolman Sonic 2 Was using most of Sonic 1's programming in their level design, so being rushed on that wasn't much of a big deal.

Well this game managed to get a few things right in my opinion.
- The Soundtrack. (Easily the only thing widely praised in the game)
- Shadow's story. (It was written by the genius behind SA2. *Shiro Maekawa*)
- Introducing Silver. (Say what you want about him imo he is an underrated badass!)
- Mephiles. (Another underrated badass who was a great villain for Shadow)
- The concept. (While poorly executed had great potential)
- Shadow kicking Silver in the head. (What can I say? Shadow is a BOSS!)
- This is easily the most discussed Sonic game in the franchise. (Whether that is a good or bad thing is up to you)

But it only costed one life for me and after it happened once I figured it out, so it wasn't too much of a problem for me, but it's mostly due to the person entering the thing too far to the right. So it is unfair, but it doesn't ruin the entire game to the point where it's unplayable.

Some scripted scenes also don't let you control them, but the term "scripted" can also just mean a predetermined sequence of events.

The glitches are the least of this game's problems. First off, you've got the half-assed story. Sonic's entire story is literally nothing but, "Elise gets captured, go rescue her." Again. And again. _And again_. This is a Sonic game where Sonic himself has absolutely nothing to do with the actual plot. Shadow and Silver's are a little better, but that isn't saying much. It's got enough shoehorned melodrama to fill several episodes worth of soap operas, because it wants you to know that, "this is game is serious! Actions have consequences and no one can be trusted!" This is a game about a goddamn talking hedgehog. Taking itself too seriously makes it look more stupid than the fanfiction written for it on deviantart. At the very end, it all gets retconed anyway, making the entire game totally pointless.
Second, the levels. There's some decent design and a few okay ideas, but visually/style-wise, they're awfully bland and uninspired (except for Crisis City, but I'm a sucker for big open city levels and _maybe_ Kingdom Valley).
Third, the hub worlds. They're completely unnecessary and there's nothing to do in them. Sure, you can do the town missions, but even if those weren't blatantly unfun bullshit, they still have no effect on the game. You can _completely ignore them_ and the game will not be any different.
Forth, the controls. Controlling characters in this game feels so ridiculously stiff. When Sonic does a homing attack, it takes forever for him just to hit the next enemy, yet in the demo, it was as fluid as it was in SA2! Wtf happened?! The same goes for Shadow, only if you buy the stupid upgrades, it's even worse because you're stuck hitting the air until his combo finishes before you can move on. You'll be lucky if an enemy doesn't hit you while you're doing this. Silver feels the easiest to control, but the camera certainly hinders it a bit.
Fifth, the upgrades. They're pointless. Shadow's chaos blast does jack shit, Silver's "speed boost" does jack shit, and nearly all of Sonic's gems do jack shit. The only upgrades worth getting are the red gem (for easy A ranks) and the purple gem (infinite jumping).
Sixth, every character shares the same levels. I'd argue that Sonic Heroes could get away with this because the levels were large and fairly imaginative. Here it's just a chore to shuffle through some of these stages. And even when they try to spice things up, it fails. Shadow's hangglider is fucking stupid, and so is his jeep.
Perhaps the worst thing of all was that this was intended to be a reboot to the franchise. Even _if_ the game hadn't been rushed and had half the content it promised it would, it would still be a mess of a game that makes Final Fight Streetwise look like a competent reboot of a franchise. The _ONLY_ thing this game has going for it is it's wonderful soundtrack.

The new characters: blaze and silver, are awsome, the villain is pretty good
The scenarios are amazing, and the history have some good parts, like silver trying to kill sonic because of the bad future

ALL GLITCHES EXPLAINED
1. Getting stuck is not a glitch
The controls were badly programmed meaning that when you go on angled walls if you were hitting up and went on a wall you would get stuck because the programming is programmed for sonic on a wall to hit left or right when on walls to move forward
Many people don't even try to find out why this "glitch" happens so they just keep playing normally and crap like this happens to them
2. Again not a glitch
Bad programming again, they obviously put the speaking dialogue that tails says just a few steps after the hole with the switch
Meaning they should have put it more than a few steps and the other way! I'd have out it where search light is if anyone remembers where that is
The result to this error is when people normally would walk past the hole it would trigger tails to say that but even after you get the switch and walk to that trigger he says it :-/
3. A strange one definitely
It looks to be like there is a bug in the loop to loop, or a buggy area in a certain point that can lead to this glitch only if the characters is gliding on water and hits a particular point in the loop to loop at the right place, i think you need speed as well
4. clearly nobody knows a thing about the physics of the loop to loops.
they are magnets pretty much
if a character is on them, they cant get off them when running, but if standing still you can jump out of it, but not if your at the top of it at 2:00
bad programming yet again, and many other glitches can be performed using the magnet and none magnet platforms
if you think of it rails have magnets as well which is how another glitch is performed using the half magnet/none magnet glitch called the "level skip"
5. yet again bad programming
because there is a magnet not allowing sonic to move left or right he cant move at all and if sonic moves onto that loop to loop on the right side more the chance he will miss the speed ramps and run off and fall to death
or another glitch sonic hits 2 of the speed ramps at the same time which angles sonic differently which angles sonic directly leading him to the goal not needing to jump from wall to wall
or faster you can glitch yourself out of the magnet by jumping at a weak part of the magnet which is right at the end of the loop to loop and jump over the speed ramps and land into victory
6. not a glitch
a bug in sonics falling, normally when jumping you fall at a decent pace unable to move in the air
when sonic hits a speed ramp and doesn't move the D-Pad after hitting it, he will fall downward not moving forward at all leading to sonic land at that certain point which kills sonic, since running into walls leads to death, and since that wall is to long and sonic is unable to jump when hit, it leads to a death
if you are holding the D-Pad forward after hitting the speed ramp you should get a quick move in the air which leads to you moving to safety
you can only move when you begin to fall downward, you can move right as your about to it that fence which leads to a lucky close death
7. makes sense if you look at whats really happening
there are 2 things that kill sonic, having a physical kill or a falling kill
if a character is falling to death and lands on a solid they will then act as if they had a physical attack and say what ever they would say if they got hit, for sonic "ooh" "no"
since you standing on a solid ground when you run into the water he will try to sink/fall and since hes standing on a solid at the same time that leads to that weird death
but for the reason why he was standing and still moving
i think its because hes on terrain that has water which leads to slow moving death waiting to happen
8. again, look at the real picture
hes trying to jump off on an angle with the camera being on angle and knuckles trying to jump off while moving at the same time, this particular game is programmed weird, where you have to be still in order to jump out of magnet walls and or solids
i can tell you now that if he didn't move at all and hold the jump button for some time, he would jump off the wall
9. come on this is obvious
silver is programmed to pick up the enemy immediately after he does what he was doing, which was throwing sonic and because sonic loses rings where he gets thrown its an endless cycle
10. very bad programming in my opinion sadly
the vehicle can move to left right up and down which is programmed to a certain extent
unfortunately they didn't program it to stop at the solid terrain and the result is the vehicle going into the solids
11. this one is a bit interesting
the character is trying to get onto a rail while on 3 at the same time
left, right, and the current one that leads forward
because the your falling off and onto the rail constantly your able to move left and right and get that result and until the character faces a straight path for the character to follow or jumps, the glitch will remain
12. ive already explained. but ill explain it once more
he fell off for a good reason, you hit the the patch of ground that shoots lava out of
the reason why you fell off and didn't run over it is because, the patch is sticking out of the ground which is just a layer higher, and is a solid, so if ran on with an angle, you will fall!
13. a very interesting glitch
if any attack/friction i caused with this particular object at the right height and angle, you can make the object jump up, and the more faster you add friction to it, the more higher and faster you will get, and since sonic cant spin attack faster he can only go at a certain pace and this is the result
14. makes sense when you look at the real picture
he stands on 2 terrain solids at the same time leads to this, and since the camera follows sonic, this is the result
15. if sonic spin dashes a speed pad, he runs quite faster than normal and if sonic is angled towards a possible death
then the result is him keeping the current speed and falls off to death
and the reason why the speed randomly ends before he dies is because the time the speed pad was supposed to end, then happens and the speed he has ends just like that
16. the rock is a solid, and is an obstacle so obviously you can get hit and be killed
even though it shouldn't be an obstacle, it is a solid, which means it can me hit, and cause you to die
bad programming again
17. if there is a level with tails or knuckles or anyone that is playable in a level, then there will always be another sonic because after that character plays there part you normally go back to sonic, since the 1st sonic gets deleted a new sonic must be in the level meaning there are 2 sonics in other character levels
18. two things
1 the first launch is a homing attack glitch which is caused by a magnet and a none magnet glitch with the homing attack.
and since blaze's homing attacks are a bit different its a lot easier and or harder to do at different places
2 the reason he died is because when he hit the last spring obviously he was angled a bit wrong and the result was landing in the fall/hit death
19. this one is a bad character programming
when you first press to hover the first second it starts, obviously it doesn't move downward and if you repeat this by repeatedly tapping, you get that result
also 9:36 again its a trigger for shadow since your supposed to be shadow (what did you expect omega to say it) also sonic doesn't have any enemies because he is not supposed to be playing that part of level, you can only get there by WO skip glitch, and or purple gem/sky gem

I still, to this day, don't understand why people defend this game. It's such a mess that there are glitches in scripted moments.
It’s because of the ‘muh ambition’ common amongst these new sonic fans. It’s like they fail to realize that having ambition for something that you KNOW can’t possibly be achieved is a bad thing. That’s why I have an immense respect for some of the 2010 games like colours or generations over something like 06. Obviously colours is good while generations is legit amazing, but a lot of ‘fans’ like to slander those games purely for not being ‘ambitious’ enough. Personally though, I think it’s better to provide your fans with a smaller scale, but overall fantastic experience, than an over ambitious clunker like 06.
Because the game is bad, unfinished, but not boring, and the level design, which is one of the most important things of sonic games , is pretty good

Yes it's true that all games have glitches, but not every game has mountain loads of glitches that are so broken, so easy to find & can ruin the experience for a lot of people like the glitches in 06. If that was the case, then critically acclaimed games like Mario Galaxy, Overwatch & Mass Effect 2 wouldn't have received game of the year awards...

I just came here to watch an old video about Sonic '06 and all I found in this comment section was people mentioning comments that were defending this game! Like holy shit! This fanbase is something else. Some people would say here that this game would've been good if it wasn't rushed. Well, if that happened, this game would've been just mid at best! Because you would still have the awful story, the bad controls, the half-assed side characters, the bleak hub worlds, the terrible side missions, Shadow's crappy vehicles and the ball puzzles. Just like that, ambitious or not, this game was doomed from the beginning. You like it? Okay, more power to you. Honestly, I'm happy this game existed. It was so awful, that even Sega saw. And they wanted to make sure they never did it again. Say what you want about the games that came after - even if you didn't find them "fun" - you can tell they actually started caring about not making things a glitchfest.

I love Sonic, but oddly enough, this one didn't feel right with me and I never bought it. When I bought Unleashed, I really enjoyed it and wondered why the 2006 game had been said to be such a bad game. The thought popped into my mind a few times to perhaps play it... I now finally went to check why it's so bad. I'm glad I never bought that game.
It's a shame because I think this game would have been way cooler if SEGA had fixed the bugs and...well...actually FINISHED IT.

Princess Elise + Sonic = Worst idea Sega ever had. Sonic should not have a love interest, not even Amy or Sally. It should just be about speed and adventure. I watched this video when i was 6 when i could barely read. When I first saw this game I never got to play it but I thought it was the greatest thing on planet earth. When I saw this video I genuinely thought it meant bad as in a good thing like badass or something, not even taking the contents of the video into account. Needless to say I was a dumb child.
Well, I have finally completed this game fully today. Got the last two silver medals after much faffing around.
I had to come back to watch this video as I liked it a while back and have seen a lot of these glitches. It's going to be the only reason I play the game now just to upload the randomness!
Without beating a dead horse, this game is VERY bad and could of been so much more. When finishing the game I looked back on the experience and have seen this game have so much potential.
The main gripe is obviously the bugs and glitches that happen as you play. I'll admit that there is fun to be had figuring out how to trigger them though.
I would love for this game to be redone but I believe SEGA doesn't want to even get a whiff of anything Sonic '06 related.
The fact that there are people who will defend this game is hilarious.
Sonic moves slow as shit, the controls are god damn impossible, the textures are shit, the environments are unfinished, the glitches are god damn endless, the animations are awful, the character designs/models are nightmarish, the voice acting is poorly done, the gameplay in general is unpolished and bad, and the convoluted, bestiality-filled, necrophilic, fanfiction quality shitshow of a "story" is so laughably bad it's almost funny.
You just can't defend this game. Plain and simple. You can like it all you want, but you cannot honestly look at this game and say "Yes, this is a good quality product, and deserving of praise.".
It is a terrible game, end of story. So don't even bother.

Shiro Maekawa clearly favors Shadow (I don't hate Shadow but the title is called Sonic the Hedgehog not Shadow the Hedgehog 2) Shadow the Hedgehog wrapped up Shadow's character arc and this game should have opened a Character Arc for Silver and have Silver's character arc pick up from the Sonic Rivals games and still have Shadow in Sonic Rivals and introduce Him as a G.U.N Agent in the Sonic Rivals game. Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Amy, Silver, Eggman, Elise and Mephiles would have been better for Sonic 06.
Mephiles is one of the worst characters right next to Big the Cat, Omochao, Elise, Marine the Raccoon, Black Doom and Infinite
I can't believe years later that Sonic Fanboys would defend this trash when this game came out Sonic was a laughing stock on the internet with games like This, Shadow the Hedgehog, Sonic Riders, Sonic Rivals 1, Sonic and the Secret Rings, Sonic Rivals 2, Sonic Riders: Zero Gravity, Sonic Chronicles the Dark Brotherhood and Sonic and the Black Knight (yeah Sonic Rush and Sonic Rush Adventure where good). If it was not for Sonic Unleashed HD I would have given up on Sonic and We got games like Sonic Colors, Sonic Generations and Sonic Mania/Sonic Mania Plus. Yeah there was Sonic The Hedgehog 4: Episode 1, Sonic Free Riders, Sonic The Hedgehog 4: Episode Metal, Sonic The Hedgehog 4: Episode 2, Sonic Lost World (I kinda like the Wii U/PC versions of the game 3DS version sucks), Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric, Sonic Boom: Shattered Crystals and Sonic Forces. But Sonic 06 did so much damage not only to the series and gave birth to the Sonic Cycle. But made the Fanbase one of the worst Fanbases on the Internet right next to Super Smash Bros. the reason why you fell off and didn't run over it is because, the patch is sticking out of the ground which is just a layer higher, and is a solid, so if ran on with an angle, you will fall!
+JeraCyclo Daniel That shouldn't have happened, considering that (a) you can normally run over those things, (b) it's very hard to avoid that patch without falling off the path, and (c) if you're lucky, you can sometimes run over the patch on that path unharmed. It's just bad programming.

I don't like this game, but I don't think people who like it need help - it's their opinions, I respect them! However, it must still be acknowledged that Sonic 06 is still considered a bad game as it nearly destroyed the franchise and was ranked one of the mostly poorly developed game ever made - even Sega themselves admitted it was a huge embarrassment for them. But yeah, there's nothing wrong with liking a bad game :)

The enjoyment from a game depends on the PERSON'S gameplay experience, NOT your own. For example, most people had a glitchful run of Sonic 06. I, on the other hand, had FAR less glitches in my own run, thus, I enjoyed the game more.

I never found those issues to really be something that was seriously awful. Yes, Knuckles' combat is shit, Sonic's not TOO slow, the Billiard Puzzle is EASY if you take your time with Silver. Not EASY, but nowhere near as hard as people make it out to be.
Yes, Amy is a terrible character to play as, but you only play as her a few times. Same goes for Knuckles. I never really jumped into enemies, I always homing attack/spindash/slide/somersault into them. It's a fact that this game has bad coding, but even with bad coding, it's still possible to enjoy something. The best term I can give is that Ignorance is Bliss. I'm ignorant to the slowness, the bad combat with Shadow, and so on. I'm not saying you HAVE to like this game, but I'm saying that you shouldn't call someone's opinion wrong. If you hate it, alright, cool, I understand why.
There is nothing wrong with liking a bad game as long as you acknowledge the games flaws.

I recently got this game from my brother's friend, and started playing knowing it was going to be a glitchy, buggy, broken mess that I would just keep around for laughs. After an hour or so, I think this game is the WORST GAME I HAVE EVER PLAYED. Look, I didn't WANT to hate it! I tried to go through without bumping into glitches, but the town missions, snowboarding section, and the silver boss fight nearly broke my ps3! I don't want to trash talk this game too much, but if you're one of the people who defend this game saying they had a lot of fun with it, good for you. The game had a good story and a really great villain but the gameplay was terrible I cannot count how many times I had fall off when I was running on the side of building or platform it would be great if they did a remaster and get rid all of the bugs and glitches.

+Darkkefka My friend had this game, and I borrowed it for a bit. It's a broken mess. And to be honest, a lot of Sonic games are broken messes. A Sega Sonic collection of remasters of broken Sonic games would sell well, especially if it actually fixed all the bugs and made the games playable.

I don't hate 06 but there's no denying that it's a rushed and unfinished game. Gameplay wise, parts of it are decent but it sadly remains to be quite broken.
The problem with 06 started when Yuji Naka decided to leave during development of the game thus put pressure on the rest of the team and correct me if I'm wrong but apparently some of the people in the 06 team started working on Secret Rings which meant only half of the team was left working on 06? I'm not sure if that's entirely correct but based on what I've heard and seen, it did seem that way as the team started to decrease due to focus on 06 being lost and many people claim that it was Microsoft and Sony's fault but it really wasn't and I still have yet to see any prove of it. It was SEGA who decided to rush the team in order to make it before the deadline therefore putting more pressure which resulted into the game being rushed and left in quite a mess. I believe it was also planned to be ported to the Wii too but that was obviously cancelled later on.
From the BETA footage, we can see that there would have been a "day and night" system in the game which looked rather interesting and would transition depending on the amount of time spent in the stage but was sadly scrapped for unknown reasons (But this was something that would later return in Unleashed.) Sonic's homing attack also looks more fluid and he does flips while performing the attack. It also looked much powerful in the early versions of the game and he actually doesn't lose momentum when doing it. It seems they started to lose a sense of direction with the development of the game after Naka left. The deadline was also Christmas and they probably didn't want to push it further back for sales and the fact that it was an anniversary game but I think it really would have benefited them more if they took their time and pushed it back. I was so excited for this game as a kid. When I got in 2006, I liked it and was so pysched but then when I played the whole game sometime later at an older age, I started to quickly realise the problems with the game. it's such a huge shame. I think the beta footage showed real pontential and there are some things I like in the final version, however it's not enough to make me really love the game as a whole. I really think Naka made the mistake of leaving during development and SEGA worsened it by rushing the developers to make it before the deadline.
In terms of playability, Blaze is the main and primary playable character that works pretty well and I actually have fun playing with her as I didn't experience any problems with her and it's annoying that you don't get to play as her very often. Sonic is actually decent too aside from the mach sections, the controls are just way too sensitive. Omega is pretty fine too. Unfortunately, everyone else felt rather slow with Amy unfortunately being the weakest of the bunch. The story was a bit of mess and there are quite a lot of inconsistencies. I like the idea for the story but the inconsistent writing makes it hard to follow. The voice acting is varies from both good to quite average but it's not the absolute worst I've heard. The voice direction also plays a part in this too but it wasn't a major problem for me at all. Metal Sonic was also originally supposed to be playable from what I've heard and all the supporting characters would have had their own storylines in single player too as well as being in multiplayer too. You would have also been able to unlock songs from past Sonic games.
I do like some things in this game such as: Shadow's story, Silver and his abilities, Blaze, the music, the CGI cutscenes, most of the voice acting, some of level design in certain stages and the final boss against Solaris. Unfortunately as you can see, it's not a huge amount but those are the only things that stand out as good or decent to me in the game. The rest is pretty much a mess. I have to mention though, I didn't really encounter many of these gltiches aside from a minority now and then.
I just think it's such a huge shame. Again, I don't hate this game but the lost potential really shows and I feel they should have taken much more care with this game, considering it was the 15th Anniversary game. It's unlikely that we will ever see a remake because so many things would need to repatched and not just the gameplay either. Having said that, I do want SEGA/Sonic team to go back to this gameplay. The Adventure based gameplay and what 06 tried to bring back. I'm not bothered if it's not Adventure 3 but I just want a Sonic game that has the Adventure style gameplay where all characters move at a good sense of speed as well as having their own unique abilities. That is what I truly want to see return in a Sonic game but I highly doubt I'll be seeing that anytime soon which saddens me but I can only hope that one day it will happen.
Overall, Sonic 06 is a game that offers some good and decent content but remains to be rushed and unfinished with lost potential which unfortunately brought more bad than good and ends up being rather messy. To be honest, I do get some enjoyment from this game but at the same time, the bad parts also show too.

I feel like this game could have been so much more than it is. It has a great villain, a great soundtrack, detailed cutscenes and good quality graphics... It's obvious they were trying to make a great Sonic game, but because of a team split and a Christmas deadline they couldn't polish everything up in time

Sonic 06 is a bad game imo. This game could've been great but almost everything was butchered.
Bad story, too many glitches, most of the characters have bad playstyles, camera was bad, long load times, a terrible save system, all of these flaws are unacceptable and I can't believe people are actually trying to defend them. 06 turned this franchise into a laughing stock, and created a huge hate bandwagon for Sonic. Thankfully Unleashed, Rush Adventure, and the Olympic games were there but they weren't enough to save Sonic. Sonic 06 may bring some positives to me like the kick ass soundtrack and the scene where shadow kicks silver's head but deep down it is the game that would tarnish Sonic's reputation. It's not the worst sonic game but definitely one of them.
I actually liked this game when I was a kid, the bugs were features for me! 3D Sonic Games are buggy in general, however their target demo was pre teens and young kids who don't really care about bugs unless they actually stop them from playing the game. To them these kinds of bugs are fun secrets rather than embarrassments, at least the ones like Omega going to Shadows level. This guy didn't even include Sonic with the Chaos Emeralds which were utterly broken. Sonic Team had little incentive to change what they were doing, this game sold well at the time. Keep in mind, this was out a year after Shadow the Hedgehog was released, a far more embarrassing game story wise.
Sonic is a weird franchise now, I think because of this game and Shadow they inadvertently helped nurture a weird fanbase that at this point either you're doing classic sonic or you're taking the piss out of it with the tv show.
Imagine living in 2021 and STILL leaving comments online that list glitches in Sonic '06. We know. The game is 15 years old. Move on.
