    Great review-straight and to the point, and good images to showcase dynamic range, color reproduction, highlight roll-off, etc. Wow! What a beautiful camera, something to aspire to owning some day.
    That being said, how could you not mention the lack of an EVF option! You came so close when saying it was difficult in sunlight, and again when critiquing the lack of hot shoe. How a camera like this that has such a history of studio fashion, product, and portraiture photography could omit a hot shoe for flash syncing without a janky cable implementation and an eye level viewfinder option is baffling.
    Also, not being able to tilt the LCD while in portrait mode would be a bit annoying, and I find that shooting with an eye level viewfinder while kneeling is an easier way to get lower angles than using a panel (especially a fixed one). It’s like they took the 6x6 design and forgot that you have to turn it on its side to get portrait angles and didn’t really consider a very important use case. They should have taken the opportunity to offer a $2k+ (or whatever crazy Hassy taxed price) rotating eye level EVF as another blingy accessory along side the $700 grip.
    I am dreaming, since I have no justification for dropping this kind of money on this beautiful machine, however enticing...

    Thanks for the video. Since I inherited a 500 C/M and SWC I'll be saving my nickels and dimes for the CFV II 50c. The fact that the 907x comes with it is an added bonus! Once again, thanks for taking the time to produce this informative video.

Not sure that the images are that much better than say my D850 and I’ve been hoping for the 100 mp sensor to really separate it from Dslr world. I love my 500C/M. TTL is nice, but I never needed that. But I consider buying a later 503 to have a replacement body. The best film camera Hasselblad ever made I think would be the 205... you can do everything you can do with the 503. And you have very sophisticated metering built in. Only downside: you need a battery. But as long as you can carry a replacement battery I think that’s not a dealbreaker 😅

Your review has given me just enough information to wait a little longer. The flash problems and such are a little off putting. But thank you; hopefully I'll be around long enough to seesome changes to 907X 50C that will justify the cost.

    • @Sondercreative

      I think the X1D is the more practical option so I completely understand why you’d pick that camera. It’s a beautiful camera too.

  • @0ecka
    @0ecka 3 роки тому

    I love this camera! Great design. Huge potential. And I think that even the lack of a hot/cold shoe isn't that big of a problem really. I mean, we can attach something like a flash bracket to the bottom of the camera (the tripod mount) and put our transmitters there, among other things :).
    Of course, a larger sensor would be very nice. But, it's quite expensive as it is and a larger chip would make it cost even more, astronomically more. Plus, I'm not sure if the XCD lens family can provide large enough image projection to cover the 53.4x40 chip.

    • @Sondercreative
      @Sondercreative  3 роки тому

      Based on some conversations I’ve had, most of the lenses have been designed to have a much large image circles so they could cover sensor but maybe not optimised for the larger sensor.
      Feasible it seems.

    Price difference to the X1D II isn’t that big. I went for the 907X because i still have my 500 Classic. I’ve found that the system freezes quite a lot. Resolved by restarting or battery out, but I wish it didn’t.

      I’m not personally a fan of that particular focal length but I know Anete is and she’d probably highly recommend most lenses around that field of view.

    Nice video dude! No hotshoe and no eye level EVF is a deal breaker for me. This would be my favourite camera and I would buy it if it had an EVF. I can live without a hotshoe...maybe. But not being able to shoot portrait format easily and at eye level with an EVF is just crazy to me. I can't understand it. Shame, I agree it's the best thing going otherwise.

    Love your comment about the sensor size. I really like the concept of this camera. The sensor size is the dealbreaker. I like my V-System optics and this huge crop isn’t gonna work for me. A 6x4.5 or even a 6x6 would be a dream together with the option to use HCD and XCD optics. I think I’m not the only who would consider paying 15 to 20k for such thing. I really don’t need a Mercedes. I’m happy with a Skoda, when I can afford a camera like that in return :D

    You don't have to worry about the missing cold shoe for the flash. You can simply buy an appropriate camera cage and attach the flash trigger to the cage, that simple. I wish the sensor size to be bigger too. Like you say, they have the 53x44mm H6D sensor which is still only 55% size of 645 film; but the H6D sensor sells for $26,000+. But bigger makes it more meaningful only if you are going to snap it into a V-back and use it on a view camera. However, with the right lens choice, such as the Rodenstock 100mm f/4 Apo-Sironar digital HR Lens ($4,800), the image circle is well matched to the 907X sensor size, and all is well as is, (Marriage made in Heaven). What is more debatable is Fuji has now shown the world, with its new GFX 100S market entry, that this size sensor can accommodate 100MP. I say this Blad needs to go back to the drawing board. Now!!! For it is already obsolete.

    When will camera companies learn that ergonomically, then gripping like that (and with just about every camera) the obvious place for the shutter button is on the front side, not the top? That's why guns have a trigger with a vertical surface, it's ergonomic.

    What an amazing camera, the best thing Hasselblad has ever made: FINALLY dual SD card slots, lcd that is hard to read/see in light, more money for a grip (with awkward shutter) , more money for a viewfinder, the latter works with only three lenses (does not with his favorite portrait lens), no hotshoe to attach the remote trigger... but yeah the best camera they've ever made. Meanwhile for $6G you buy a Canon top of the line with 12 bit images and same color quality. For the same money you get top of the line Sony and a lens. What a joke. Large format cameras are nowadays just as good as medium format.

      I think people value different things and you're right to dislike this, that's completely reasonable.

      Sonder Creative I am comparing the same sensor and the colors shown in your video looks very close to what I get from a D300/D700 when opening the nef files even though the sensor is slightly bigger than 35mm it's the exact same 10 year old sensor used in those hassleblads and Fuji GFX1. The cmos output colors started to change a lot with the newer sony sensors with better overall response to mixed lightings and more accurate color reproduction, I really hoped Hasselblad and Fuji would have used the newer sensor tech for such amazing cameras but they still look very nice

      fthprod photo-video I’d love to see if you can produce a fair comparison when done side by side in the same scenario.

    • @fthprodphoto-video5357
      @fthprodphoto-video5357 3 роки тому

      Sonder Creative well you are the one posting videos explaining that the colors are amazing so we need to refer to your video to believe that.When you show those examples here, the colors (and not the details obviously) look exactly the same in your files than old generation cmos sensors. Your own eye might just feel those colors are unbelievable because of the high resolution and detail but sensor tech has been improved since. I am not saying the colors are bad (I use myself old cmos, ccd and foveon cameras and know their limits too) but this sensor is exactly the same 10 year old sensor used in the first cmos based Pentax 645z, which has been reused in the Fuji GFX and Hasselblad X1D which is a bit a bummer to compete with the new Nikon Z or Sony cameras that offer better tonality and dynamic range for a lower price. That being said the camera and leaf shutter are great, but at this price point, photographers might ask themselves which is the best camera system and a new sensor is extremely important in this equation. Nikon offers a very interesting new system with their new Z mount and very high quality glass but Hasselblad really offers something appealing too and it's glass has very special character BUT the sensor is 10 years old.

      YEs it does - the same one in the ten yr old Hass H system - I use a H5 50c - but the color in Phocus is twice as good as Canikony and thats before we get to image quality - it has to be printed to be seen - as for GFX - it blows them out of the water for IQ. I had a GFX50s but unless you like green and magenta it is terrible. Buuuuut - I don't like the X system which is why I use the H and even that has limitations - and I would save for a 100c H6 buuuuut Hass have stopped devving that system now - sooooo I have just had a very expensive conversation with Teamwork Digital about Phase One - anyone want to buy a house, children, kidneys etc.....?

      Unfortunate it’s not down to Hasselblad, they don’t produce sensors. They’ve never produced film either so it’s not something they do.
      Camera sensors are mostly produced by Sony and if Sony doesn’t produce a square format sensor, then unfortunately Hasselblad doesn’t have one either.
      It’s not something they’ve ever had a hand in.
      Having said that, they could produce a 645 version of this camera so for that I’m not sure they have a good excuse.

    • @Sondercreative

      It is a 14bit sensor based on the actual hardware. The 16bit rating is gained by upscaling the images which is not the same as an actual 16bit capable sensor.

  • @rmrfboy

    youve complain about the price a little, and you wanted a bigger sensor. ur pushing it a little bit. to be honest, the sensor size is right on point with its price. anything bigger wont be feasible and will just drive the price up.
    besides, ur not that great with using it. ur lighting and composition is all over the place with the images u showed. master that first before you complain a lot of the system.

    • @Sondercreative
      @Sondercreative  3 роки тому

      I don’t think I complained about price as much as I simply mentioned it.
      Also a larger sensor camera exists and is feasible. Hasselblad has currently got two cameras with a larger sensor so it’s definitely feasible. Once they move to the 150mp sensor, the 100mp could comfortably be repurposed for the CFV and the price could be within reason too.
      Also your critique of the images we produced is without merit and of no consequence. Ultimately it only matters what our clients think and the images are being used by them :).

How a camera like this that has such a history of studio fashion, product, and portraiture photography could omit a hot shoe for flash syncing without a janky cable implementation is baffling.
    I am dreaming, since I have no justification for dropping this kind of money on this beautiful machine, however enticing.
