A bit of an update for MA, 2021 was a bad year due to multiple DQ's, then comes 2022 with several modifications performed in the off season, including motor work, alas metal in the screens after a short test flight made it impossible to attend, I suspect 2023 MA will shine bright, far brighter than 405mph. Czech Mate was also set to attend after a long hiatus, sadly it's demise came shortly after a test flight take off, as well Sherman Smoot 💔who was at the controls..❤

My dad bought this plane in 1963 and brought it back to life. He sold it in 1964. True storie.

Sad to see only one P-51 get over 400 mph. Let's face it, without Brian and Dennis Sanders, Unlimited racing would be on it's death bed right now. Says it all when a slow Yak makes it to the Gold race two years in a row.

rampking1 yeah it’s unfortunate, 2017 looked like it was a great year (Strega be Voodo), then everything just died in 2018. I plan to go to Reno next year ( I went for the 1st time in 2013), hopefully the races will have some bigger contenders other than just Dreadnaught

@@nitchmakes7550 Been going since 1966 so it is very sad for me...although I knew it was going to happen sooner or later

rampking1 what was your favorite year you were out at the races? My father used to live in Reno and went to the races each year, he said the 1980’s were the best years.

@@nitchmakes7550 I agree about the 1980's. The "Confederate air force" putting on a great WWII act, plus great military participation ( not just static display) as the military was a rocking force during the Reagan years. . Never knew what might show up, might be some B-52 or another aircraft in the area and would do a surprise flyby. Also the Merlin guru's figured out how to keep the Rolls Royce P-51's from blowing engines as frequently. Lastly the 1980's would have a FULL Unlimited field for solid Gold, Silver and Bronze races....imagine so many warbird Unlimiteds that some aircraft would not make the cut during qualifying ! The races are not the same without Bob Hoover, Art Scholl and Darryl Greenamyer.

I think the 1980’s looked like they were awesome years. I’m especially intrigued by Tsunami, the custom air racer. It looked like it was a good contender. Then there was Super Corsair, Stiletto, Sumthin’ else, all of which looked awesome in my opinion. Too bad Tsunami and Super Corsair crashed and Stiletto was converted into a TF-51. Rare Bear also looked like it was in peak performance during those years.
