Thanks for posting Joel and Erik!
Great insights, thank you! Also, glad everyone was ok and the plane could be saved. Great work by the pilot!
Glad you got down safely Joel, and everyone was safe. Another good thing is Dreadnought will fly again ! I'd be really interested to see an autopsy of the engine.
An unfortunate and serious mechanical problem handled expertly by a superb pilot. Well done Joel, and thanks for the great interview.
Excellent reporting. Something we are not used to in mainstream media… thank you Erik.
So happy you were able to land safely, and no other damage to yourself or the plane. Well done!
Joel seems like a cool customer. Great job handling the emergency. Really glad he's okay and got the airplane on the ground safely.
Eric, thanks for sharing this interview. Joel: Great work getting it on the ground safely! Seeing the formation videos made me wish I could share my formation photos of Dreadnought at Madera 1984. I was riding along with Tiger Destefani in his stock Mustang Mangia Pane, in formation with Dreadnought and John Crocker's modified Mustang Sumthin Else. We did a mock air race for the Madera airshow crowd. I've been a huge fan of Dreadnought and the Sanders Family ever since.
It really sucks when a something breaks or goes wrong like this before a race, obviously, just sympathizing. Especially scary in the air and stressful with money and repairs. Like another commenter said, "Glad everyone was okay." Still super sucks. Great and unique video. Never heard anyone talk about stuff like this outside of cars. Thanks, Joel, for doing this interview. The videos with the sound of engine failure in the air is cool too!
Thanks to both you for the information. Great explanation of the resources and how you managed the situation.
Excellent explanation of a bad situation.....Thanks for the video.
Nice clear and concise description Joel! Thanks for taking the time to share:)
You traded speed for altitude and brought you both home safe.. 👍🏻👍🏻. Great flying.
Thanks for sharing Eric. Love the mighty Dreadnought 👍
Thanks for watching!
Glad you were able to get landed safely and no major damage to the airframe so Dreadnought will fly again! Hope to see the "autopsy" photos.
At one point I definitely saw fire. Was very relieved it didn't last. Great job getting down safely.
Great informative interview. Well done for a great safe result. Thank you both.
Perfect example of professionals up in the air! Thanks for this short but interesting interview, the landing would also be great to see :)
Thank you for the update on the catastrophic engine failure on the beautiful "Dreadnaught". I have previously seen a video of the failure and the superb landing you performed under far from ideal conditions. I hope there is no additional damage except to the engine, God Bless and stay safe.
Thanks for the insight. That was some awesome flying to bring it down in one piece!
Great update…thanks!👍👍
Good job staying calm and collective. Glad you are safe on the ground with no issues.
Happy that you got down in one piece. Impressed that you and your crew know exactly what to do in that situation, and did it.
great info--thx for posting!
Good to here from you on what really happened. I would like to see fallow up videos on engine teardown if you could.
Oh man, if I was the pilot and heard such engine noise & seizure, if I had one, my parachute would not work due to being contaminated with icky stuff from me.
I was right there and saw it happen.. great job! I saw the chase plane catch you as soon as you pulled up! I heard you guys had to “crunch” the prop though to get the tow bar on! Lol
Very nice and interesting video!
Those videos of Stephen Chapis of dreadnought flying were beautiful, where I can find the raw one?
Great job on recovery and crew management!!!!!!!
Great interview, thanks Erik!! Was this your first year at Reno? VERY sad day on Sunday. Praying for their families.
Yes it was. But I still have some very fond and positive memories of being with my good friends!! I mean it really was amazing!
Done and done - Seen that a few times .
Great job Joel!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Probably take a year to get that 3500 Lb swiss watch rebuilt.
There I was , with plenty of altitude above me …. Maybe I should shut the engine off ?
One cool customer!
Thanks for sharing.
You bet
Just glad you made it down in one piece, Joel.
Fascinating about the Safty plane
Nice job!
Any pics of the carnage?
♥️🤍💙Thank you!😊
I’ve only just realised that Dreadnought now has a standard vertical fin and rudder after years of having a larger fin. Anybody know when the change was made and if it affects the handling negatively? I thought the larger fin was needed to offset the additional torque from that massive engine
Any engine alwaya seems to run zo good just before they go
Perhaps a flame trap in the intake could have prevented the backfires.
👍👍👍
So you left the throttle wide open ? Until … whatever - Lucky no fire -
Hi
😎
Oh dear, that sounds bad, like more than just a plug wire came off.
WHAT KIND OF ENGINE IS IN IT ??
P&W R-4360.
Thank you,,, I thought that was it . Very powerful.
Yes sir something like that'll definitely get your blood flowing
