I like how simple you keep your tank with inhabitants. It really allows you to enjoy and appreciate them individually. It's easy to want more and more in the tank.
Wow. From the video where you told that you were gonna set up an aquarium gallery the time has went so fast. You have always came up with great ideas and kickass videos. Im so sorry for Buddy. It was a big loss to you. I don't know how, but you still are positive in your videos, you inspire me so much and I guess also all of your 500K subscribers. You do amazing stuff.
It is so nice to see you smile, Joey. I am sure I'm not the only one who was worried you would be less active on UA-cam and go into a depression after losing Buddy. I know that you've mentioned that the best way to memorialize him is to keep moving forward with the gallery, and I am glad you are. You've inspired me to think creatively about my own tank. But it is nice to see you in good spirits. ☺️
Nice video, a couple things I will say to when you're doing your water changes. Make absolutely sure the Ph. Alk, and salinity of the new water is matched to your tank to avoid a drastic swing in your parameters that will stress your fish and corals. The second thing is add a T-Fitting to the return line with a valve on it. Use that to drain water out of the system, and then add the water back to the sump. This will eliminate the need to add large amounts of water back to the display tank, again reducing stress on the livestock. As for your sump, I highly recommend adding some baffle plates in there to control depth and water flow across your chosen media. Most skimmers require a certain level of water to operate correctly. Having a full open sump means the entire water level is set by the pump and may not be correct cor the skimmer. Also using the baffles you can direct water flow across the media increasing their ability to remove toxins like ammonia and nitrites. Lastly by adding the baffles you give particulate places to settle before they reach the pump section and this will all but eliminate the chances of detritus making its way back to the display tank, and/or getting sucked into and clogging the lift pump.
I am a saltwater hobbyist, But I really enjoy your videos since you keep freshwater rays and I keep saltwater rays and other odd fish. Keep up the good work joey!
You're one of the very few youtubers that releases videos upwards of 15 minutes long and I still watch every second... That deserves a big pat on the back lol
I've been really tempted to get a reef tank going. Used to have a 40 gal salt years ago but my focus since has been fresh water planted tanks. Your video helped me make my mind up and I plan to save up for a decent sized reef tank, not too small but not too large, I'm thinking 20-30 gal range. Thanks for the video!
Flames are hit n miss. Some folks get lucky n never bother any coral n some go crazy on them. Had a flame angle myself n left everything alone. Then about a yr later started going for my lps n had to go. But some do get lucky. Of all the angel fish to try with coral, flame is the one to try tho.
This channel has opened up my interest in fish keeping. I'm building/planning my first saltwater tank. So exited! Thank you so much for your amazing videos! Sorry about your recent loss man.
The only thing you should do differently with this tank is add powerheads. A Fowlr talk does well with a 10x turnover rate but once you get into corals you'll need to up that to between 20x and 40x depending on the corals kept. That return flow isn't enough. A low flow can actually choke the corals and cause bleaching(dying) corals even in a very temporary tank you definitely need more flow.
VERY HAPPY To hear about MULTIPLE saltwater tanks, More the better! You Have inspired me to take a foot hold back into the hobby. Hey, Maybe when we have 500k subscribers see how simple saltwater tanks really can be, I believe they can make the switch!! Cant wait to see what Skimmer you choose, macro algae for the refugium setups ( ex. Chaeto )! And we will finally see HOW BEAUTIFUL those Radion lights truly can be under saltwater! Time to invest in a PAR meter
Daniel Price They tend to be able to stick up for themselves better than others. Trigger won't eat lionfish because of the spines, lionfish won't eat a bigger trigger because it can't fit it in its mouth. Puffers have the obvious defences and eels can hide in the rock work not to mention the mouthful of teeth they have
Hey man appreciate your work and your commitment to documenting your passion. Showing the good and the bad a keeping on keeping on is inspiring. As someone who's just starting out with fish keeping (cycling my first tank as I type) I'm inspired by your videos every week look forward to the development of your gallery!
It's a babysitter fish. They need to live in their own tank and can't have any rocks cus they can get hurt. Also need to be fed 3-4 times a day. if you like that sure. just saying.
Rock placement looks good, natural as when swimming through coral beds in the sea. Corals will grow in, could use a few more with various colors. Nice temporary setup Joey.
You know i love listening to Joey but sometimes I zone out because I get to distracted by cute lil Frank always being there Haha! Frank's like a lil puppy you just can't enough of him haha x
great start love the simplicity of the salt tank no need for the high end im shure youll get some fine pices gifted . im willing to give you a few frags of some cool coral next time you in the michigan area. idk how crossing the borfer would work. have a good one joey thanks for the great content
Sweet! The reef is looking good. Those clowns may mess with the bangai Cardinals especially if they start spawning. Can't wait to see this tank progress!
Oh yes, I needed a video on a new tank, can't wait to see how the gallery unfolds within the next few weeks, love you Joey and all the things you do, I'm thinking of drawing some things for buddy and posting it on Instagram, your a good man joey
I've been questioning weather or not to try salt water tank. Seen so many tubers lately taking on salt. We'll see, Fired Up!!! Keep the gallery rolling on forward.
Nice little reef tank joey, i would agree that a bit more live rock would be good, not only will it help fill the tank out a little more but also will help with the tanks filtration.
Nice work joey. My personal experience with scaping a reef. Keep rocks away from glass. Easier to clean the ugly brown green algeas off glass. Just a tip. The duncan coral is my absolute favorite. Ive had great success with them but i love the look and they eat mysis shrimp and grow fast. Loving it joey.
I'd like to see short cameos of your family and other pets so we can get a better feel for your life. I'm always surprised when you mention other pets and family, lol. Do you have kids?? It would be cute to see them help you.
Green Shiva why do you want to see his family? That's nothing to do with the channel. Let them do there thing and just take in what the channel is about and what joey does best.
It was just a suggestion. I watch a lot of UA-camrs and you get to know them and it makes the experience more fulfilling for lots of viewers. But like I said. It was just a suggestion. I will still watch, either way :). He has great content!
I've been doing fresh water tanks for years and just recently I have been breaking my tanks down so I can start a saltwater tank, I have been very hesitant but I've been falling more in love with the thought of having a saltwater tank
Tank looks good Joey. I housed new world cichlids for 20yrs b4 I made the switch over to marine 2 yrs ago. It can be simple as you want as well as being more complex. I find having the right equipment pays off in the long run. 👍
dsadaw wadsd no kidding... wow!!! Okay life goals get a guess house just for fish. Really awesome to watch his videos. It puts me in a happy place watching his tanks with an exception what happened last week. :(
Sweet setup! I would recommend an ATO if that's how you plan on doing water changes to prevent your salinity from getting too high. Try some neon green hammers and GSP, very beautiful and vibrant green. Keep up the good work!
Great video! You may want to move the rock away from the sides a bit more that are touching the glass. Cleaning the glass could become a problem there.
Nice and seemingly quite simple and exquisitely beautiful! I almost want to try my luck with a Salt water tank, but Im still going to need to decide which size aquarium tank I want to use for a Marine Tank! You Make it look so easy but you have the experience with them to make the most difficult thing or task look easy. Thank you Joey for my almost found enthusiasm and saltwater. Desire to risk taking the plunge once and for all!
Once you determine where you want to place it in your home, you can use blue masking tape to mark off the size you are considering both on the wall as well as the depth on the floor. A very nice comfortable size is 120g (4' x 2' x 2'), but you may prefer to start with something a little smaller perhaps?
Sweet man I'm glad you're doing more than one salt water tank. I can learn as you go. I recently converted to salt water ok my 55gal and kept only 1 freshwater fish and placed him on my night stand w/ plants. I have a little bit of both in my world :)

beautiful salt tank brother....another piece of live rock sort of flat to make a shelf or a bridge connecting the 2 islands would look nice.... along with a coral beauty swimming around too!...
Love it bro! Word of advice always were powder free latex or other wise rubber gloves and even sometime eye protection when handling corals and always wash your hands thoroughly afterwards.
Glad to see you do saltwater joey. Maybe people will realize a saltwater tank is no harder and maybe easier than a freshwater planted tank.. just different parameters to watch. I do both and love both

the salty cube looks great! the rock "towers" made the tank look bigger for me. i think that some sand would tie it all together, but i understand that this is a temporary setup
i'd love to see you do more saltwater! your live rock is really healthy, you can tell its full of all sorts of little organisms, and the calcareous buildup looks really nice. EDIT: and please upload another video soon showing this tank once everything settles in

JOEY!!!! DO A PREDATOR TANK WITH LIONFISH AND EELS ETC!
The king of DIY how about some saltwater rays :)
Great job joey ......makes me laugh though when u say what not!
Frank hangs around your shoulder just like a parrot and its so cute!!!!
I like how simple you keep your tank with inhabitants. It really allows you to enjoy and appreciate them individually. It's easy to want more and more in the tank.

Lugging all these tanks around is working wonders for the biceps eh?
Sudz Reviews probs not cause he takes out the water...I think.
Daniel Schenfeld have you ever lifted and carried buckets of water? It even empty tanks 😂 they're plenty heavy on their own.
He'll look even sexier in his mermaid outfit...
lol
He picks them up and puts them down.

OMG Frank is so cute popping in and out of the screen behind you Joey! Thanks for all the work you do!
Rest in peace little banggai.
BrunoTheHamster Eyyy my dog is also named Bruno. lol🔥
Glad to see your still keeping positive and providing great content considering the recent loss of Buddy
When banggai cardinal paired up, they will harass and kill the other one. Hermit crabs will eat it when it gets weak or killed.
I've been really tempted to get a reef tank going. Used to have a 40 gal salt years ago but my focus since has been fresh water planted tanks. I want to see you in the mermaid costume next video Joey!!!
Mohammad I mermaid costume?? 😮
LOL!
Mohammad I LMAO
Miss seeing Buddy swimming around the tank. I'm sure you miss him more. Glad you're keeping busy though. That's probably the best way to go about it.
Get a Flame Angle!
flame angels will eat his torches etc.... usually 50/50 that they will eat coral...
I have 2 angels and they pay no attention to my corals.
Idk about flame angle but flame angels looks cool.
Etho Exposed Angels will usually eat one type of coral, so it just depends on the fish :3

A low flow can actually choke the corals and cause bleaching(dying) corals even in a very temporary tank you definitely need more flow.
Some sps tanks run 80-100x turnover rates, flow is incredibly important in reefs. Also keeps dead spots to a minimum.
VERY HAPPY To hear about MULTIPLE saltwater tanks, More the better! You Have inspired me to take a foot hold back into the hobby. Hey, Maybe when we have 500k subscribers see how simple saltwater tanks really can be, I believe they can make the switch!!

And we will finally see HOW BEAUTIFUL those Radion lights truly can be under saltwater! Time to invest in a PAR meter
You NEED to make a salt water predator tank with eels, puffer, lion fish, jawfish, triggerfish and all sorts of cool big fish.
Daniel Price They tend to be able to stick up for themselves better than others. Trigger won't eat lionfish because of the spines, lionfish won't eat a bigger trigger because it can't fit it in its mouth. Puffers have the obvious defences and eels can hide in the rock work not to mention the mouthful of teeth they have
That has to be a giant tank and that would stress all of them out a lot which might kill them
Those fish are just options, obviously you would need to use compatible fish.
A 120 is too small for most of those fish. Although it's a great size for a fowlr with more moderately sized fish.
Yellster_ 26 yass Or maybe a cowfish like cheese
I LOVE this tank and the layout. The fish are stunning. What a gem! Great work!
What happened to the shrimp
the lizard people ate them
Beastie Bros Gaming wtf 😂
it ded
Snow Flake what do you not believe in the lizard people?
I love how frank was just chillin right behind joey for most of video, like "i''m the real star of your videos". I love his attitude
Hunter Bachmann RIP
Should I get a 20 gallon long or a 29 gallon tank? I want to start a planted aquarium.
Joshua Chavana which ever one has more bottom surface area, so you can fit more plants
Joshua Chavana the bigger the better
Joshua Chavana 20 long, more space for plants and a 29 is taller so you'll need a stronger light.
Thanks for your suggestions!
Joshua Chavana The bigger the better is my way of putting it, also 29 gallon is just a taller 20 gal long.
Hey man appreciate your work and your commitment to documenting your passion. Showing the good and the bad a keeping on keeping on is inspiring. As someone who's just starting out with fish keeping (cycling my first tank as I type) I'm inspired by your videos every week look forward to the development of your gallery!
You should get a cow fish for one of your salt water aquariums. They're so goofy.
Maybe Later CHEESE
Aunt Jemima I WAS THINKING THE SAME THING
It's a babysitter fish. They need to live in their own tank and can't have any rocks cus they can get hurt. Also need to be fed 3-4 times a day. if you like that sure. just saying.
Maybe Later no! CHEESE is taken
Lemuel David Latoja I love Cheese!!!! 🧀
Cardinal Fish only like being in pairs, otherwise one will get killed unless the aquarium is vary large.🐟
great start love the simplicity of the salt tank no need for the high end im shure youll get some fine pices gifted . im willing to give you a few frags of some cool coral next time you in the michigan area. idk how crossing the borfer would work. have a good one joey thanks for the great content
That empty feeling in your stomach you get when a fish goes missing and you can't find it... 😅
Sweet! The reef is looking good. Those clowns may mess with the bangai Cardinals especially if they start spawning. Can't wait to see this tank progress!
Congratulations on 502,000 subscribers
Oh yes, I needed a video on a new tank, can't wait to see how the gallery unfolds within the next few weeks, love you Joey and all the things you do, I'm thinking of drawing some things for buddy and posting it on Instagram, your a good man joey
Are the biceps loyal or oil???
I've been questioning weather or not to try salt water tank. Seen so many tubers lately taking on salt. We'll see, Fired Up!!! Keep the gallery rolling on forward.
Why do you never do hand feeding
Not good for every fish some don't like it it's usually good for freshwater fish more specifically goldfish and betas
IMO some fish will associate your hand with food after time. Not the best thing for a fish to think when i'm cleaning or re arranging the tank xD
Nice little reef tank joey, i would agree that a bit more live rock would be good, not only will it help fill the tank out a little more but also will help with the tanks filtration.
DROP OFF WHY ARE YOU BRNGING HIM TO THE DROP OFF!?!?!?
Lunalover33
To touch the butt.
Hey you gu-uys, I can swim out closer than you!!!!!
might as well fry him up now and serve him with chips!!!
**GASPS** *HE TOUCHED THE BUTT!!!!!*
You say you like the cheap pieces.. You just havnt seen the right expensive pieces yet 🤣😆 You'll be addicted in no time.. i know you like a challenge!
I want to shop where he shops. lol
Melevsreef "mates rates" lol. I want me some $9 hammers
Right $9 frags that unheard of here in the States
Nice to see you smiling again Joey! We can't wait for the gallery to progress even more, keep going brother
I'd like to see short cameos of your family and other pets so we can get a better feel for your life. I'm always surprised when you mention other pets and family, lol. Do you have kids?? It would be cute to see them help you.
He has two kids they have been in videos before
I've been watching for awhile (since before he got the smaller red arowana) and don't recall ever seeing them! They need to make more cameos :)
His family don't want to be on camera or they would be
He did a vid called her fist tank with his daughter though
Green Shiva why do you want to see his family? That's nothing to do with the channel. Let them do there thing and just take in what the channel is about and what joey does best.
It was just a suggestion. I watch a lot of UA-camrs and you get to know them and it makes the experience more fulfilling for lots of viewers. But like I said. It was just a suggestion. I will still watch, either way :). He has great content!

Tank looks good Joey. I housed new world cichlids for 20yrs b4 I made the switch over to marine 2 yrs ago. It can be simple as you want as well as being more complex. I find having the right equipment pays off in the long run. 👍
Question, how did you convince your wife to set up shop that big at your house? Trying to convince my wife too. :)
It's outside the house, in a 20ft-or-so long building
dsadaw wadsd no kidding... wow!!! Okay life goals get a guess house just for fish. Really awesome to watch his videos. It puts me in a happy place watching his tanks with an exception what happened last week. :(
so,you let your wife make decisions for you, like parents to a child?
His wife let him because she saw the UA-cam checks
fish bowl happy wife...
...happy wife
Sweet setup! I would recommend an ATO if that's how you plan on doing water changes to prevent your salinity from getting too high. Try some neon green hammers and GSP, very beautiful and vibrant green. Keep up the good work!
I think Joey sees fish In his dream
Great video Joey, nice to see frank out and about ⭐️
I'm just waiting for that Mermaid suit😂😂
ikr
I live what you came up with for the hardscape in the SW tank. I love the look of cubes but always have a tough time scaping them.
FRANK IS OVER HIS SHOULDER NEARLY THE WHOLE TIME
you're the man, I love it when you simplify everything for us dummies. I get so many ideas from your videos. thanks again!!
Frank is totally stealing the show from you while you talk about the new saltwater setup lmao
This video has peaked my interest in setting up a saltwater tank... Not so much for the fish but because of the coral - they are beautiful!
can u put ur dog in the next video
Cr7 Mes10 I was thinking the same thing!
Who? Frank?
Great video! You may want to move the rock away from the sides a bit more that are touching the glass. Cleaning the glass could become a problem there.
You should put an anemone in it
Isaiah Harris The tank should be at least 6 months to a year old before adding anemones.
Yes
THE ROCKS! THE FISH IS STUCK IN THE ROCKS!
Squash Bash did you really see it??? XD I know it's sad but why tf did the fish even went inside the rock??
Squash Bash what? Where?
Sweet man I'm glad you're doing more than one salt water tank. I can learn as you go.
I recently converted to salt water ok my 55gal and kept only 1 freshwater fish and placed him on my night stand w/ plants. I have a little bit of both in my world :)
The cardinals will indeed gang up on the third. You need a bigger school for the aggression stress to be spread around more. I had three and it wasn't long before I had two, same as you.
Anthony Moreno, unfortunately Bangaii cardinals don't school as adult, some other cardinals do though. A pair is best for them.
Absolutely love your salt tank setup! Every single video is always your best yet!
Rule #1 with a saltwater aquarium. Never put your rock close to the side glass because you will need to scrape the glass and a algae magnet won't fit.
+mike kameka not worried about it. It's only a temp set up. Plus I can buff acrylic within minutes.
Wow Joey! I really like the saltwater rock scape! Nice job man
Fraaaankkkk !!!
Cube looks good. Make sure dead spots don't form behind the rocks. I like the bare bottom look, but you should siphon the leftover debris off of the bottom. I'd honestly recommend you wait until you upgrade to start adding more fish.
Yay! 500K subs! Now Joey has to wear a bikini in the 2000g.
The new reefscape looks excellent brotha!
Now that the Asian arowana is not in the tank Frank is out more it seems like...
Damon Brown piss off
Damon Brown yea because the Asian aro was basically the "king" of the tank. Frank also had his own territory, but frank can basically go anywhere now.
Congratulations on 1/2 a million subs…bitter sweet moment because of the past few days/weeks. Try to enjoy anyway :)
Add sand to the tank please
+Valiant Jesus420 nope. Causes too many problems. I talked about this in a past video.
You explain things very well, I appreciate that, good sir

I'm 1 min late :(
beautiful salt tank brother....another piece of live rock sort of flat to make a shelf or a bridge connecting the 2 islands would look nice.... along with a coral beauty swimming around too!...
First
This salt water tank is already looking awesome. And I really like your idea of decorating.😀😀
Yes it looks very natural! It's very beautiful❤️❤️
Glad to see your dealing with the loss so well
Great tank composition! Way better then the old one.
Love it bro! Word of advice always were powder free latex or other wise rubber gloves and even sometime eye protection when handling corals and always wash your hands thoroughly afterwards.
Thanks Joey. I am going to set up a salt water tank this fall. Great information!!
Love the set up with the rocks and how you created some great depth, especially with the way the light shines and illuminates the rocks. :)
Glad to see you do saltwater joey. Maybe people will realize a saltwater tank is no harder and maybe easier than a freshwater planted tank.. just different parameters to watch. I do both and love both
Frank seems too got alot bigger, He's having the time of his life:) And amazinly nice made Tanks.
Always loved salt water tanks...you made this look so freaking easy.
As someone who as had massive salt tank systems I highly recommend removing the hermits asap, maybe to the sump. As well as add a cheato reactor, if the xenia gets to crazy on that rock put it in the sump... makes a decent filter. Water changes are a must, often.
the salty cube looks great! the rock "towers" made the tank look bigger for me. i think that some sand would tie it all together, but i understand that this is a temporary setup
love the passion you show while doing this. keep up the great vids and continue pursuing and achieving your dream.
The rock looks fantastic in that configuration, I really like it!
I like the placement of the rocks. Thumbs up
frank is awesome, like a puppy dog always happy
Loved this video, finally some saltwater content!!!!
i'd love to see you do more saltwater!
your live rock is really healthy, you can tell its full of all sorts of little organisms, and the calcareous buildup looks really nice.
EDIT: and please upload another video soon showing this tank once everything settles in
nice progress joey! love everything your doing out there!
I love how when he is doing the cleaning out the tank time-lapse the two pairs of fish stay so close together.
I'd love if you would do a more detailed explanation on how to do saltwater setups, when you go and make the bigger salt tanks!
I always wanted to get into corals, starfish and other saltwater "exclusive" creatures.
