You and I [and, yes, every other person who resides in these United States] pay(s) Lower Taxes than any other advanced, Western Nation. Really. Yep! Honestly. Why? Deductions, Credits, Loopholes, Subsidies, Prevaricating about our Expenses & Charitable Donations on our Tax Returns as well as other forms of tax avoidance. Hey, it is the American Way. Setting aside all the palaver and misinformation about Canadian Health Care, the Japanese, Swiss, French and other first world nations have excellent, public health care. And, yes, they actually Pay Their Taxes. Tell me, what's the sales tax in Texas? And, how about the Triple Subsidy most home buyers receive (mortgage interest, real estate taxes deductibility, etc). Folks bitch and moan about how much they pay in taxes as they take inflated deductions for their home offices,GoPro Hero action cams and, even, their motorcycles (yep, our Tax Code allows a UA-cam Presenter to consider the motorbike, scooter, boat, airplane, RV, bicycle, horse, eBike, PWC, Side by Side, ATV and UTV as necessary elements to the YT productions). Sweet. Two thirds of the Swiss rent ! Why? Because their tax code lacks the Subsidies that our Tax Code allows. And, thanks to lobbying of Congress for favorable tax laws, many of our U.S. Corporations do Not pay Any taxes! Obscene!
And, now, I will step down from my Soap Box.
Oh, yes,I nearly forgot: Kudos to you for an excellent website. You are entertaining and entrepreneurial.

      I also have a 16 Harley street glide. And a 22 goldwing.
If I ride my street glide for a hundred miles I’m wiped. If I ride my goldwing 250 miles. I’m not tired at all. That goldwing is in a class of its own.

I have both Harley's and Goldwings, a 2019 Road King and 2018 Goldwing dct and the Goldwing is my go to bike, I've put nearly 30,000 miles on it this year the harley 6,000 miles so far. The Goldwing is a superior bike compared to the Harley, and before people say I'm a Honda finantic I've had Harley Davidson motorcycles for nearly 50 years . I will never be without a Harley but the Goldwing is a much superior touring bike. I can service the Goldwing for about one third of the cost of a Harley and at a longer mileage requirement, all pluses in my book.

Cruiseman, I greatly appreciate your insight, I have had over the years so many different brands, to include back in the 70's, BSA, Triumph, Yamaha, Norton, then in more recent years, Hondas, BMW etc. In the early 2000's when they came out with the "Firefighter special edition" I purchased a new Harley Road King (still have it) and since then owned Harley Street glides, Ultra classics etc. A couple years ago the ulta lost a Comp Sprocket 4 days before heading out on a trip with three others. I called to cancel and one of the guys had an extra FB6, so he said come get it and ride it...Well that was the beginning of the change for me! 1). I never worried about the outside temp anymore with the Honda, the harleys when it gets in the 90's and above in temp, they ping badly, 2) The Honda had great power stock, and they have great breaks. Well it was not long after i got home, repaired the harley and sold it I purchased a Honda. Do i get teased by all of my Harley friends..Yes I do, do I really care...No i don't. LOL I have so much fun, and what i like most is the reliability!! Thank you as always for sharing your thoughts as it is greatly appreciated!!

You made the right decision on the GW DCT. I believe it’s the best touring bike on the road today, bar none. HDs are way overpriced with too much heat and vibration, dated technology and high maintenance/repair costs.
Indians are not an option for me either, the look is not appealing to me whatsoever.
BMW’s are also overpriced IMO and over engineered, as you stated.
All motorcycles have issues right from the factory, your GW has way less issues than the HD I bought a few years ago. I have never been completely happy with my bike, but will be soon when the money pit is SOLD and I purchase a new GW DCT.
    Keep up the great vlogs.

The truth is in the real stats. I am 74 and have rode over 400,000 on Goldwings. Never let me down. Oil changes, tires and one battery is all I have had to do. Oh, forgot, I did flush the brakes one time. GOLDWINGS last forever. I did ride an '18 HD Ultralimited to Daytona spring of '22. Had 3500 miles on it and broke down on the way home. I struggled to get it to the HD dealership and they said it would be 30 days before they could take it into the shop.

I considered the BMW K1600 GTL, and came very close to purchasing a 2019 Road Glide Ultra, but decided on the 2019 Gold Wing instead. With the exception of the torture device Honda calls a seat, the bike is great. Cruiseman hit the nail on the head for the reasons to purchase a Honda over the BMW or Harley

    • @richardwheeler3768

I'm glad that someone mentioned the seat. The reason that I'm looking toward the Goldwing is because of the comfort - especially for the passenger - however, until Honda does something different with the '18+ models, I'll be content to look at '17 and older.

Amazing that the seat is still an issue. I had a 1984 G W that was horrible. I had a "Diamond " seat made for it which was fabulous. Since I have been a Harley rider since 1987 , I found that they have a number of options in that area. Does Honda offer any other seat ? I realize it's a tough thing to make every one happy with a seat. Just look at the people who ride.

K1600 does have shift assist pro, similar to DCT. Apple CarPlay on a Wing is not what I want, emails and texts on the dash of a motorcycle is not what I want in an escape vehicle. BMW Grand America, I got over $9000 off on a brand new 2018 in Alberta, Canada, because it was overpriced and it's colour is Austin Yellow. The service interval costs are similar to my Triumph Thunderbird LT 1700cc actual maintenance costs. My bike is a reverse tear drop shape. The Wing looks chunky or clunky. I'm glad you like yours and I like mine. We're all different.

I owned a 2018 DCT and I'm a rider not just a cruiser. I traded the GW after 1 year of ownership. The seat caused me so much pain that even after the upgrade I literally couldn't seat down after 4 hours of riding that beast. I like to ride 8-12 hours a day and the GW is miserable. In addition, can you imagine having to buy another GPS to mount right next to the Honda screen. Consider the serviceability, the social connections, and the disappointment over the much smaller tourer that Honda is selling. Buy the Road Glide and leave Honda behind. I have owned 4 GWs before. The 2020 Road Glide Limited with RDRS does everything that Honda has to offer and more plus now I can ride in comfort. I could go on. Believe me if you a rider and want to buy American the Harley is the better bike.

Charles, there are several companies that can modify or replace stock GW seats, some have excellent reviews and riders claim they can ride all day long with the new seats/modifications. To each his own, but I see and know a lot more riders switching to Honda Goldwings than the other way around.
PS: I currently own a HD touring motorcycle and can’t wait to upgrade to a GW DCT next year.
      Ride safe Charles.

Hulu's interface is very confusing Where as Sling's is very user friendly. I'll try UA-cam TV but they're missing some stations i watch. Looking forward to your comparison. But give Sling TV a try . As far as Goldwings go, i was a harley rider for 20 years both on and off duty (retired moto cop) . It was the new style and the DCT that sold me on goldwing. When i took the DCT for a test ride i was sold. I loved the BMW K1600GTL . living in south Florida it has the best air flow of a touring bike and IMO less buffering then the Goldwing but as you said it was the maintenance cost kept me away. I've noticed Most long time BMW rider do their own maintenance and other then changing oil i'm mechanically useless. Goldwing has a great track record and i'm glad i made my choice .

I did a lot of research before purchasing my 2019 DCT Tour and watched many Cruiseman's vlogs. I've had many different motorcycles since 1973 (Honda, Yamaha, BMW, Victory) and by far, my 2019 Goldwing is the BEST motorcycle I have ever owned. My 2005 BMW K1200LT was a beautiful and well made motorcycle but it was top-heavy with a very short kickstand. It was very difficult riding with a passenger. My new DCT is very well balanced and having a passenger is no problem. Living here on the Space Coast of Florida means that this motorcycle will not be parked for the winter months.

Other than the clunky gearbox, I would rather tour on the recent-gen R1200RT than the GW. The R1200 is 100+ pounds lighter, has better (and removable) luggage. The brakes are fine, the windscreen is MUCH better, the seat is better, the Navigation works better, it is easy to put on centerstand. The Honda has a better motor and gearbox, and may be better for a passenger. The Honda suspension is smoother, but it bottoms out too Daily. The R1200 is definitely more agile.

Every time I see that Garmin navigation device I think about how shitty the Nav system is in the 2018+ wing, to me that is a disaster for Honda.
Better looks on the 2018+ GW is certainly subjective, people had to give up a lot to get "better looks" on a touring bike like wind protection and luggage space, however it's still the best value in a touring bike.
Someone mentioned the seat, for me no GW seat has ever been comfortable. The previous model seat had my knees touching the fairing. I have had to replace or modify the seat on both of the second gen wings I have owned...

More and more lately I realize that the navigation, any kind of nav, is taking something away from the experience of enjoying the ride. The "map" is no longer in my head while I take in the scenery. Luckily, since I have a GL1100, I can just turn it off, take my smartphone off the holder, and pretend it's 1983 again. Even if I had a new Goldwing, I'm pretty sure I would still ride one of the old ones as much if not more & those old ones are pretty nimble without the fairing.

I got a somewhat late start in life riding motorcycles, age 25 back in 2005. My first bike was a 2005 Suzuki Katana 600. I wanted a sport bike that would be comfortable to ride. I put a little over 23K miles on that bike with no issues until I stored in in a shed for my first two years in the Navy. Mice got into the wiring and the fuel rusted out the tank. Fixed the bike up and road it a little longer until my wife demanded a more comfortable seating position. In 2012 I gave her that upgrade. I was torn between the Goldwing, a Harley touring bike, and the BMWs. I quickly scratched the BMWs off my list as their dealer networks were few and far between. Great machines, but I wanted to have easy access to a dealership if anything arose while on the road. So that left the Goldwing and Harley-Davidsons. I did a lot of research between the two. I was very impressed with the Goldwing reliability, but I was seeing flaws in handling with the reviews I saw. At the time the Harleys were better handling machines. The majority of the issues they had in years past had been addressed in 2008 when Harley-Davidson changed their framework on their touring machines. Along with a vast dealer network that far exceeded that of Honda’s, and I really liked the way the Harley Davidson motorcycles looked... I decided to go with a 2012 Ultra Classic Electra Glide CVO after further research of the touring lineup. About 4 years and 40K miles later, that 110 Ci engine had a catastrophic failure. Thankfully it was covered by my extended warranty and 75 days later I had the bike back with a fully rebuilt engine. A few months later, I was on a cross country trip from San Diego to Tampa. This trip was in August of 2016. Well the temperature in eastern Arizona and New Mexico was at a horrible 125*F. Started hearing a louder than normal pinging sound coming from what sounded like the rockers. Pulled over to let the bike cool down and check fluids, and all was fine. The engine was just running warmer than normal. Got back on the road, but slowed down from the 85 mph that we were traveling at to 75 mph and never heard the noise again. Got to Mississippi and there were 3 wrecks on the I-10 back to back. Traffic was crawling and of course, lane splitting is not legal there. I was placing the bike in neutral as much as possible so I don’t over heat the clutch. Well the clutch started to get so hot that it started to engage with the handle pulled all the way back the the grip. Hurried up and got to the shoulder as fast as possible. With the clutch pulled all the way to the grip it didn’t want to disengage and I ended up stalling the bike as I stopped. Sat there for a few hours waiting on the bike to cool down and for traffic to hopefully clear up. The next day at our first fuel stop, my buddy told me I should check my oil as he was getting high on exhaust fumes from riding behind me. I just happened to be a quart low, and added a quart and got back on the road. We were still in Mississippi. When we got to Jacksonville, FL. I checked my oil again. Needed to add a half a quart. Did so and got back on the road. Made it to Orlando, FL. Had to add another half quart of oil. Then as we were arriving at the hotel in Tampa,FL. my poor CVO was smoking so bad going down the street my buddies said I was smoking like a F-4 fighter plane. Following morning I delivered my 2012 Ultra Classic Electra Glide CVO to the dealership there asking if they could fix my bike in 4 day so I could be back on the road to San Diego on time? Well I ended up trading in that bike for a 2016 Harley Road Glide Ultra CVO. Well two years and 36,500 miles later I had started another cross country trip from San Diego to Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. I almost made it to Flagstaff, Arizona and my engine blew. It was only 90*F and I was traveling at 70 mph. I noticed as I went to downshift from 6th to 5th gear that my clutch went soft and wouldn’t disengage. I managed to finish climbing the pass and was on my way down the other side that I started hearing clunking sounds from the engine. So I pulled off at some random exit to investigate and let the bike cool down, in the middle of nowhere. I waited about 2 hours before deciding that I needed to make it to an exit that had some sort of services before it got dark. There was one about 7 miles further down the freeway. So I proceeded on my way. The clunking got louder and my power was dropping. I make it to a shell station making all sorts of racket before the bike shuts down on me. Oil had puked back out the air filter all over the engine and exhaust pipes. Following day managed to get the bike trailered back to San Diego and to the service center at my local Harley dealer. I had 10 days left on my factory warranty, so they authorized an engine swap. 45 days later I have the bike back and proceeded to do another engine break-in period then the break-in service. After that service, I attempted to trade in my 2 year old $50,000 Harley Davidson Road Glide Ultra CVO with now 37K miles for the 2018 Goldwing Tour DCT. They said that they could only give me $21K for trade. I still owed $37K. So I still have my 2016 Road Glide Ultra CVO and a 2018 Goldwing Tour DCT. So over the last year, I put only 3,000 miles on the Harley which is now at 40,000 miles, and I have put over 17,000 on my Goldwing. Paying two bike payments sucks, but once I can pay enough of the Harley off to get out from under it, I will. I will probably never own another Harley Touring bike again. I was a little disappointed with the lack of storage and stereo volume on the new goldwing, but overall it is a far more superior touring machine, in the smooth ride, handling, the infotainment system and fuel mileage than the top of the line overpriced Harley Davidson touring CVO machines.

I owned BMWs since 1975. The biggest problem with them is not the bike, it’s the lack of dealership network. When I moved to N.C. the closest dealer was at least two hours away. That and arthritis in my wrists forced me to leave BMW. Went with the 2018 DCT.

duane howard mine want tampered with at all. It was completely stock. It had the oil transfer problem from the transmission to the primary. I traded the bike in with only 1100 miles on it. I had no trans oil on the dipstick with only 480 miles on it. I thought maybe they didn’t check or fill it properly when it was being set up before I bought it. That’s what they claimed and they topped it off and said recheck it again in 500 miles. I checked it again at 475 and guess what? Empty again! At that point they didn’t have a fix for it and didn’t know when they would and I felt I had a $25,000.00 paper weight. So I got rid of it. It was a 2018 road king special.

Cruiseman, I had been seriously considering buying a 2018 or 2019 GoldWing for two up touring. Then I came across a 2016 holdover level two GoldWing. I have to say that it is my belief that for a two up touring motorcycle, the Gen 2 1800's have EVERYTHING a person would ever need for a long distance ride. The Gen 2's are extremely comfortable, very powerful, have plenty of luggage space and handle very well for a two up touring motorcycle. I have test driven 4 or 5 of the Gen 3 1800's and while they are superb handling bikes, I just don't think they are as comfortable for my wife or I as the Gen 2 bikes are. The Gen 3 bikes would need a more comfortable seat for the rider and especially the passenger and slightly larger luggage space. I love the 6th gear (or 7th gear with DCT) but I feel Honda took a step backward by lowering the fuel tank capacity by a gallon +. I actually own an Indian Vintage and used to own the Indian Roadmaster, and you are right...they do get pretty warm in the hot summer sun. You are also right in that they are BEAUTIFUL bikes. My wife just didn't care for the comfort of the Roadmaster as well as the GoldWing (the 2016 makes GoldWing #7 over the years).

I have the 2018 DCT Tour. My wife and I ride a lot, but even with the smaller gas tank I get over 250 miles before I have to fill up and I still don't have the low fill light on. I rode last week for 6 hours round trip to Iowa from Illinois just to see when the light would come on and it did come on (so now I know it works) but I rode 270 miles before it came on. Normally I stop every 2-3 hours (about 150 miles) just to stretch our legs and fill up then. I have not found the smaller tank to be an issue and when I ride with my GWRRA group I average 1/3 less fuel to fill up than any of them so I am happy.

I enjoyed being in the virtual back seat and said I think i will get on. I had a 2003 Honda Shadow with about 8,000 miles on it. Took a ride to my Honda dealer that was 1 hour away with my wife and seen one there. I loved the F6B cause i didn't think i was ready for the full bike and she said get it. DIDN'T ASK HER TWICE. The dealer said since this is your second bike here i will make you and offer you cant refuse. $24,000 bike for 16,000 I signed the paperwork right away. Leftover incentive, buy back on my Honda Shadow. With all the incentives I got 8,000 off the new leftover 2013 Honda Goldwing F6B. LOVE IT ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT. Toured with my 09 Wing from sea to shining sea happily for several years but was lured away 2 years ago by that legendary German engineering in the K1600. Considered the 2018 Wing but scared off by inevitable glitches in any new or redesigned model. K1600 has made a believer out of me. Rode across Canada in all kinds of ugly weather and she never missed a beat. Smooth as silk with the wife on the back on long tours or remove the top case and the passenger and she’s more fun in the twisties than a man should be allowed to have. I get it about the dealer network and yes it’s expensive but the reliability has been flawless over the past 16,000 miles. Haven’t tried the DCT Goldwing but something very unnatural about no clutch in my left hand. But I do love that slipper clutch on the BMW. Nobody beats me off line with that in my arsenal. Oh, and I added the Garmin into the slot BMW made for it, so no crappy Honda GPS. For some inexplicable reason Honda can’t make a decent GPS for their cars either.

I'm always solo so the trunk space is not an issue for me. So far zero problems, and the reliability factormeans a lot to me. I went through 2 Harleys , a 2009 low rider and a 2009 Ultra Classic, minor problems with both, but worst was the heat from the motor. Sold them as a package deal and bought my 2008. I've looked at the Honda Goldwing and the BMW GTL and the Harley Davidson Road Glide they are all good touring bikes in my opinion. But what fits me best. I don't like the foot peg/ board location on the Goldwing, it's uncomfortable and the fact that you have to totally disassemble the front fairing to get at the air cleaner. That's one job I don't want and I just can't justify the cost of the dealer doing it just for an air filter. I do like the BMW GTL but again the location of the foot pegs makes me bend my knees to the point a long ride would be uncomfortable and the fairing seem to be in the way if highway foot boards. I've owned Hondas, and Harley's and rode just about everything they make but the Harley has been the most comfortable, for me, on long road trips over 3000 miles one way. That is why my next bike will in all likelihood be a Harley Davidson Road Glide Limited.

I ride H-D and put right at 100,000 miles on the last one I had with only maintenance and tires. No breakdowns either. Owned that Road King for just over twenty years. I do my own maintenance as well so that was pretty inexpensive.
With that being said I think H-D and Indian for that matter ride and buy what we do for completely different reasons than what Honda GW riders ride and buy theirs for. In fact I think the reasons I like my Harleys are the same reasons I believe you would not like them and might see those reasons as a flaw in the motorcycle.
I believe variety is the spice of life and it's a good thing. Think how boring it would be if we all liked the same things.

I too did my research prior to purchasing my 2018 Goldwing DCT. I was a die hard Harley owner up till the purchase of a 2010 CVO Ultra Classic. The one off custom Harley was a piece of junk....the 110CI screaming eagle motor was garbage, rear cylinder head gaskets kept blowing. The chrome on the custom mirrors, wheels and floor boards flaked not to mention the electronic issues I encountered which are too many to list. I got rid of it and bought a 2014 Indian Chieftain which I enjoyed but it just wasn’t cut out for long distance touring plus getting older and having some issues with arthritis in my left wrist it was getting harder to hold the clutch in stop and go traffic. SOO.....When Honda came out with the DCT I had to take it for a ride to see what it was all about and I just fell in love with it. I got lucky and was able to get one from my local dealer when most dealers weren’t able to get them. The DCT has been flawless, it’s not without saying that there are a few things Honda could have done a little different or better like in the comfort department for the long haul - but luckily there are folks out there that have come up with tips and tricks to solve a lot of the issues. I had a custom painted trailer made at Bushtech which I tow with the Goldwing and there are times I forget the trailer is behind me. I still own a production model 2009 Harley Softail Deluxe that’s in great shape and runs like the day it was purchased. My wife usually rides it back and forth to work and I sometimes take it out for a local ride but when we decide to hit the road for five weeks and go coast to coast we’ll take the Goldwing with the trailer. Like you mentioned in your Vlog the motors on these are bullet proof and are cheaply maintained. Not to mention you can run them all day long on regular pump gas not high test like Harleys. For someone who was dead set against buying Hondas for so long I was foolish not to give them a try. Now I’ll never go back to anything else. One last thing you mentioned was the heat off the Harleys...OMG they are horrible even with the new heat management systems they’ve incorporated. I haven’t felt anything even remotely close with the Goldwing unless you stick your knees way out away from the bike you might get a little heat from the fans. Thanks for all your Vlogs and little tips, I’ve used Traxxion Dynamics for quite a few things along with Wingsoft out there in Texas to get my seat some added comfort plus RIVCO highway pegs and HELI Bar risers. Keep them tips coming!!

I also owned a 2016 BMW R1200 RT, a 2012 Yamaha FJR 1300, various Kawasakis and Hondas and presently own a 2020 H-D Road Glide Special. Out of all those bikes the only one that had problems was the Gold Wing. Handle bar switch lights burning out, switches that stuck as I pushed them in because they were poorly sealed and allowed dirt and bugs into them, and on a cross country trip as I entered CA the little green clips that hold the cables in place started to break requiring me to empty out the trunk to reach the remote actuators so that I could open the left saddle bag, and having to replace the front fork seals twice. Add to that the creaking I heard every time I hit a bump and having to dam near disassemble the entire front fairing just to replace the air cleaner. Then there was the wire insulation wearing through due to the harness not being properly secured. All of this occurring before the bike hit 30K miles. It was the most problematic motorcycle I have ever owned. Granted these problems were not of a major nature they plumb tuckered me out. My Beamer and Harley never had issues. I guess it all depends on what day of the week the bike was made.

Liked it ok, but still think I want a manual. I live in Pgh Pa so it is going to be difficult finding a dealer with a demo bike near me. I looked on Honda's website for dealers with Demos, only found a couple dealers with them, and they were DCT.
      Thank you.
Post a video if you get the chance to ride one. Would like to see hear your take on it.

Your videos are very informative thank you. Can you recommend Honda dealers that offer great prices & have large inventories. In New York the Honda dealers have limited stock.
    Thank you

Thanks for the discussion, Cruiseman! I appreciate all the information. The only things holding me back from buying are the GPS, small luggage compartments, and the seat (an easy fix). Also, I hate how the saddlebags open up to the side rather than the top. Again, thank you much for all your videos.

I have never had bags that opened on top, but I can see how that would be a really nice feature, especially on the left side!

Looking forward to that Hulu review - looks like it would save me $150/month just on the tv part of my cable bill.
I really wanted the road glide, but the Milwaukee 8 issues put me off. As did the typical sales bs at my long time Harley shop. My '19 Tour DCT is a pleasure to ride, unlike my (still) '15 Ultra Limited. And, 4K UNDER Msrp, unlike HD's Msrp +, like you have to pay extra for the 'privilege' of owning a Harley. Done with them.

I chose a used Harley because their are thousands available in the tri-state area. Which meant I could find one with low mileage, lots of add-ons, etc. When I bought it the new Gold wing had just hit. So no used ones yet. The BMW had tons of bad maintenance issues posted on forums.

I love my 1991 Goldwing GL1500 SE Anniversary edition ( 250,000 km/ 160,000 miles and counting ). I have done nothing to it but tires, oil and fluids.
Tons of storage, amazing for 2 up riding, and runs like a new bike. I can still ballance a coin on the engine case when I start the bike and it doesn't move.
    Keep up the great videos

I bought a 2021 Goldwing DCT (and named it~ Undeniable), because it's the undeniable truth. I traded my 2019 Harley-Davidson Limited in after owning it for only 2 months. I took the Goldwing out for a test ride and came back and told the salesman, "I HAVE to have it !!" Because the ride and performance was far superior to anything I had ever ridden on, or ever owned. Keep up the great work Cruiseman !!

When I started riding again four and a half years ago, I went through four Harley's before dumping them for a new Indian Chieftain. 8 months after that, I saw the newly redesigned Goldwing and took a loss on the Indian to get on a Goldwing Tour DCT and it's my Goldilocks bike. I love it. The Harley's I started with, three new and one used, taught me that, in my opinion, Harley is riding on its reputation to sell bikes while producing sub-standard motorcycles. One of them died while accelerating into a busy intersection with only 200 miles on it. It's ECM burned up! I truly thought they were crap and went to Indian. Much better for a V-Twin. If I were to ever go back to a V-Twin, it would be Indian. Hands down. But, I'm an egg-suckin' dog now in that since discovering the Goldwing and that incredible engine and its DCT, I'll never go back to blap-blap-blap thigh burners.

Just another opinion! I bought a 1984 G W which was an ok bike , other than a horrible seat & HEAT issues due to the radiator location . As you say they have gotten better, due to the current radiator location. Since 1987 , I have ridden H D exclusively. Now we get to the point of discussion. I have totaled in the last 30 plus years over 500, 000 miles on H D. Heat is a subjective issue , but reliability is personal. In all those years & miles, the only time I was stranded on the road was due to a flat tire. I have crossed the USA several times, riding both Interstate & secondary roads. I feel HD has gotten an unfair black eye over recent recalls [clutch , which I had it done but the offending part was not on my bike ,nor had the dealer done any that did have the bad part. I am open minded & am thinking Honda , due to the fact that the local Honda dealer is much closer to my home. [30 miles ] My issues with H D may be due to my age as I resent their trend to these overwhelming sound systems !! I don't think loud mufflers or loud sound systems make a good impression on the public. As with politics , it's easy t o quote unknown sources . [ Several people have reported ? I guess I am revealing my age . ] Thanks for your time , but I was looking for a more comprehensive review of the G W.

Very helpfull. I've been wondering about a Goldwing or a BMW and I thjink you've hit the nail on the head as to why the Goldwing is better. You just know with Honda you will get reliability. I've had BMWs and yes they were great but I did get let down a few times. Nothing hugely major, I think the worst was when a selector pawl broke in my gearbox once. OK I could still ride the bike to the dealership stuck in third gear by run starting it, so I didn't have to get recoverd but it was still a pain. Other issues were all very minor but nonetheless annoying. So I think Hond wins! Thanks Cruisman.

I was a former owner of 4 wings in the past until I switched to BMW K1600 GTL as I was just simply bored with Goldwing. K1600 became what Goldwing never was, more nimble, more precise with handling, faster and just more fun to ride but when new Wing was lunched I took it for a test ride and I liked it a lot, not so fast as beemer but fast enough, great breaks, good handling and wind protection but for now I was very disappointed with luggage capacity, In the future I will be definitely considering Goldwing as potential buy. As far as cost of maintenance cost it is kind of relative as it depends how much you do yourself. I do all maintenance myself including valve check up which is labor intensive. Beemer is not that difficult to work on as some people think, air filer replacement is for example a lot easier in BMW than in Goldwing. What makes BMW more expensive are parts, usually 30-40% more than Honda and I think high mileage will be more expensive on BMW when it comes to replacing some parts, in this scenario Wing will be just cheaper to fix.

I have owned two HD's a 1979 Low Rider which I absolutely Loved! The second was a 1982 HD FLH which I also enjoyed very much! But after taking many years off the MC's due to kids coming into the picture. My first Honda was a Mini Trail I think it was an early to mid-seventies model my Dad gave me. Back in 2015 I purchased a 2012 GL1832 and Loved it very much. But when I saw the new GL1833 I feel in Love with it! I read and researched the model before they became available. As soon as I could I went to our local power sports dealer and placed cash down for the DCT Tour. Since then I am a very happy owner! Ride Safe!

Question, I understand the wing is a “touring” bike, but heres the question. Is this bike good for a non touring bike? I won’t be doing much touring, more of a commuter, grocery getter, fun weekend ride bike. I am bothered by the small top case, I really just want it for a place to put the helmets. Kinda drawn to the G-Wing for reliability, comfort for the wife, but also to hit some twisties for a little fun. And yes I understand its not a sport bike. Just looking for an all around bike.

I have spoken to Ultimate for six months and every month they have told me the same thing. And I quote "very soon." I am not waiting on anything for my Harley. I have added fog lights, led lights front and rear, and added updated maps for my GPS. All was done in half a day. The RG does not run or sound like a sewing machine but it does pulse and feel like a thoroughbred. I do not have to make any apologies or excuses. GW owners are forced to wait and hope and explain.

Great video cruiseman, I am sold on the pre 2018 Goldwing. Because, like you said, the trunk space is not there. And I know you made a video about corbin with the aftermarket truck lid to give you more room. But I don't want to have to keep buying aftermarket to make it what it was. So I will keep on my search for the perfect 2005- 2012 and also that 1997 SE 1500. Keep up the great videos and keep the shiny side up.

You hit it. I couldn't stand sitting over that hot engine on the Harley. No heat on my legs on the Goldwing. As far as the Tech/ Bluetooth etc.. I don't use any of it. All I use is a smart phone and Cardo head set with JBL speekers in my helmet. Voice command, Navigation, Sound ... Its all better then Honda's on board Sound and Navigation.

Hello just letting you know I didn’t get to hook up with you this week. But I did get to do some demonstration rides on the new GW trike 2times and a HD tri glide. I came a heartbeat away from getting the GW. I felt so comfortable with the DCT it’s amazing. I will get one in the spring I’m hooked. DFW Honda was great no pressure because the bikes sell themselves. Thanks for your help

You made some good points on here. Especially, about air cooled V twins putting off a LOT of heat.
As far as Yamaha putting a V4 in the new Venture....maybe but a water cooled V twin makes more sense to me. That Vmax makes plenty of power but it is a gas guzzler. It's also much more expensive to manufacture and that would simply be passed onto the consumer. One of the selling points of the new Venture is its price point compared to the competition.

I did not purchase a new 2018 Goldwing, because my 08 is paid for, it is far from wore out, it has been the most all around satisfying bike I’ve owned, and I just could not justify the trade up, for a few better features. Having said that, as much as I like the stying of the new ‘wing, the reduced luggage space is an issue. Thanks to my oversized head, we can barely fit two full face helmets in the trunk now. Even then it is akin to solving one of those Chinese puzzles. So going to a smaller space does not make sense. In time, if I should decide to upgrade, the new Goldwing will be at the top of my list of choices.
