This was a very helpful video as a vocalist who has never bought my own PA system before. In 2019, this video is still very relevant because I just bought this mixer and have no idea how to use all this equipment yet but i'm gigging like crazy and i'm tired of relying on other people to make sure my voice is heard over my live band. It was sweet, short, and to the point and I so appreciate it!
I know this video was posted some years ago but just wanted to let you know this is the most helpful review for the MG06X that I've come across! I especially like how you demonstrated the effects as that is what I'm most interested in. Thanks, good job!
Great video. I have the same mixer. Just so you know, Phantom Power should only be selected when you are using a condenser or studio microphone (MXL990, Audio-Technica AT2035, etc). It requires an electrical charge to "power" it. Won't work otherwise. I haven't seen it, but have heard that some dynamic mic's can be damaged if used with the Phantom Power switch set to "ON". Hope this is helpful.
gonecountry64 I'm glad you mentioned this to her. You have to be very careful when you use phantom power so that you don't use it incorrectly. My two cents.
Great video! I purchased one about a year ago and I love it!! I only use it for in home DJing, so I’m just a hobbyist but I love playing and listening to music. Thank you!
Great review, very useful. I'm receiving this mixer tomorrow from Amazon. Will setup a home karaoke system with a powered speaker, 4 wireless mic set and a laptop.
thanks for this! rad review. just a caution careful with that phantom power its not for tone it is extra power to run specific condensor mics and it can damage a mic if turned on when not supposed to be ;)
Nice review! Have you discovered any features or is there something in particular that you really enjoy about this mixer other than the Reverb and effects?
Love The Video, You Did Amazing... 2 questions where did you had the microphone or which input (3:29) I use the 2/R Mic Line. & I would like to know what kind of wire or cords do you use for the speakers, I am not very happy with mine. Thanks
I had the mic in the first channel of course this wouldn't work if you have things in the ins which means you might need to go 1/4 on something instead..
If I turn off the volume in the main mix on the headphones can I have volume independent of the main mix with the yamaha console? I can also have audio from headphones and main mix at the same time but with separate volume for each one?
I really appreciate the review Fathom. I purchased this two months ago, and I’m having a slight issue. When connecting my DJ controller, I’m not getting sound from channels 3/4 and 5/6. Am I hooking something up wrong? My wireless mic works like a charm though. Any help or guidance is appreciated. Just subscribed! #Blessings
No I didn’t I recorded this from my fon. As of last week, I have purchased 4 of this brand of mixer for clients. It’s a solid piece. The next one up with the usb is a great piece and soundcard.
Myrna Maltok it can be. I THINK there’s a bit of amplifying in most self powered pieces including monitors, I’m currently using it with (self powered) monitors and no other elements to boots sound, so you can.
i haven one, but im having some issues. i set this up for my PC and and do things like streaming/discord and for discord there is echo when other people speak and im not sure how to fix it.
Hi, I just got this and a microphone recently. I want to plug in the mic and guitar. So I just need a speaker now, for the output, right? or an Amp? I'm not too sure. If you could clarify this and what cables I would need, I'd appreciate it. Thanks!
Yes you need a monitor or speaker for output of your sound. you can use either xlr cords (female) or 1/4 inch jack cords (male). Let me know if this helps! Thanks!
+rebecca oliva You will need both an Amp and Speakers; I recommend purchasing powered speaker that have amp that matches the speakers specs. www.jblpro.com/www/products/portable-market/eon600-series/eon615#.VutE50AXGZY
+Ranaivo Lalatiana NJATO ANDRIANARISON yes because it doesn't have a usb out .. I think if you go few steps up some of the others have them, of course the price will probably increase.
You'd have to have a way to connect, I'd suggest an imic or something like this www.google.com/shopping/product/4881828376052771266?rlz=1MDAPLA_enUS601US601&ech=8&q=usb+audio+interface&ctzn=America/Chicago&apps=ma&biw=414&hl=en-US&channel=iss&pbx=1&client=mobilesearchapp&v=9.0.60246&tch=6&noj=1&ion=0&wf=pp1&ie=UTF-8
thanks for getting back to me! this is on the back side.. it has aux send and return, line out rca LR inputs, stereo LR which is two inputs. .. and in the front two mic inputs on ¼", and two xlr, and then head phone jack..if it makes it easier its the Tascam PortaStudio DP-01FX/CD...thanks again!
DjKingBee I looked at the connectors for that unit, you’re going to have to do a little finagling with xlrs or 1/4” jacks. You might be able to y cord it into one channel.
fathom dj so id hook up the xlr outs of this to the monitors and then where do I hook the controller too ? Get trs to xlr cables to the back of the mixer ?
Yes. Then you hook the controller cables into channel 1 and or 2. If you can get a splitter to go into 1 channel that would be dope. The first 2 channels are hybrid so you can do xlr or 1/4 jack.
fathom dj yah I’ll see if a splitter will work since I want to use at least one of the first 2 channels for a MIC since that is where the effects are .... hmmmm
What kinda laptop do you have? If you have an older laptop you could go xlr or 1/4 " to an 1/8" in .. I assume you aren't don't want to use a sound card?
+Jordan Shteif get the behringer q802usb is about the same size and cheaper than the yamaha, but has a built in usb port so you can plug it into your computer, not advisable to use one of the outs on the mixer to the mic input of a computer without using an audio interface device
Thanks for actually showing how do the effects sound!
You’re very welcome

Somalia R even better is the wireless shure 2 channel. I’ll have to do a set up check once I get set up. Still recovering. 💜
Awesome review. I get so nervous when buying audio equipment. Hate spending money and getting burned. You really ran through it and put me at ease.

May be a dumb question, but could I plug this directly into my Acoustic Amp, Roland AC33 ?, thanks
If it has 1/4” or xlr ins, yes.
Can you connect to the DSLR using 3.5mm jack
Nice review! Have you discovered any features or is there something in particular that you really enjoy about this mixer other than the Reverb and effects?
JayJay Anthony portability, clean sound and of course tons of inputs.
Can this mixer work well with those effects for saxophones.?
pretty clean review right content right time thanks a lot!
Joe Cox thank you!
a continuous hiss sound is coming from the output after connecting the speakers...what is the problem...?
Probably a ground loop, you should use the XLR output, cause those aré balanced and it reduces the hiss
Does it have that giant power brick?
I have the 4 channel one and it's fantastic, but I just hate that power brick.

DjKingBee I looked at the connectors for that unit, you’re going to have to do a little finagling with xlrs or 1/4” jacks. You might be able to y cord it into one channel.
