Great and simple tips! I think I’d definitely prefer flipping from back and avoiding any chance of board hitting me in the face. 👌🏼

      Thanks for your help capturing!
I fully agree. I find it a lot easier to flip from the back vs the side. Everyone will be different depending on their abilities and equipment.

Good demo! This kind of information is important for paddlers when things get tricky. I was thinking to myself while watching the video "just watch out for that fin in case of waves that could knock the board in your direction, causing injury", and just after that you mentioned that in the video as well. I got in real trouble on my first stand up paddleboarding trip some years ago (legs ensnared by algae and lilypads in a very unlikely way), and having a leash on and having watched technique/safety videos like this including getting back on the board was quite important at that moment. Thanks for putting this together, and as I usually say, stay safe out there, and happy paddles!

Thanks for the comment and kind words, Patrik. I'm glad I could deliver!
Sorry to hear you had a difficult first paddle boarding experience. Those plants can grow thick!
Always good to practice to be prepared and more confident in the case of an emergency.
Happy paddling to you too! 🤙🏼

@@PaddleAdventurer Thanks - yes, that was a freak occurence that I've never encountered again during all the paddles that have followed.. but hit the water due to the fin getting stuck in water lilies, the board came to a halt, and suddenly found my legs in an area where wherever one moved, there'd be more thick underwater growth to get stuck in🙂 Not the scenario I expected, but a good lesson on that it's the stuff you don't expect that can really cause trouble, as it took me at least 5+ minutes to get free of that. Didn't stop me from a lot of SUP fun later that same summer...

This is a great tip Marybeth! I wish I would have known this a couple of years ago. I got beat up by some waves and I didn’t know how to flip my board over. I bb managed to do it from the side but it would have been way better from the back.

I'm glad you found it helpful! Waves are super fun but also very powerful. I'm always exhausted after playing in the waves.
Glad you figured it out but now have an easier way for your next surf adventure 🤙🏼

My board has flipped both times I've fallen from it... never thought it might be an issue to flip it back, but with some gear strapped in on a wider board, I guess it could become an issue.
