  • Hey guys, today's standard is just taking Django Reinhardt's "Blues en Mineur" from 1935 to show the difference of sound between 2 models "Mike", 2 Rythmchief 1000 and 1 Rythmchief 1100. It show that even 2 of the same model never sound exactly the same. Don't hesitate to share your thoughts in the comment. I tend to think that "Mike" or "FHC" have a little less definition and sound bluesy and fat, when the rythm chiefs are a little brighter and more precise.
I'm playing a 1936 Gibson L12 that is X braced and has a 17 inches lower bout. I'll post AS81-2 doing the same test on the parallele braced 1936 Epiphone Deluxe to show the difference, since the acoustic guitar affects a lot the sound once plugged in. I tend to prefer the result on the Epiphone, you'll be able to compare in a few days.
The guitar is strung with Nickel strings gauge 12, is plugged in a Fender Princeton Reverb amp "drip edge" from 1968-69, i'm using a 1.5mm purple dunlop pick.

Fascinating such a variation of sound they all sound lovely - I had an early guitar mic on a 40s Gretsch Synchro and the tone was very similar to your 40s one. Love your videos!

I always feel like the 1100s have more clarity and I prefer their sound. #1 was definitely my pick here too. I liked #3 as well.

Chuck Nicholson thanks for the message ! I like when there is a lot of output gain so i was always fan of my early dearmond mike, big fat bluesy tone.. but i really like my 60s rc 1000 too.. wasn t as fan with my 1100, but by using it on this vid i noticed it is super nice, and somehow a little complexier than the others ;)

Hey man! I hope you don't mind me asking, I recently bought a arch top acoustic and I want to get it fitted with all the electric fixin's. What should I google to find those cool guitar jacks you have attached under the bridge? I am mostly a bluegrass guy so all of this is new to me! haha

Interesting thanks. Some Dearmond aficionados think the 1000 was in fact a better sounding model than the 1100.
I wonder what justified the lower price of the FHC ´Mike’ model at the time because to me it sounds better than the others. Maybe its larger cumbersome size on the guitar

Thanks. Do you have to make any adjustments to your pick guard to install these properly?

Joe Pawlowski if i don t want to cut a little part of the pickguard i just unloose the screw and take it away a little bit so the pickups take the high e string too

All of them sound nice, but if I had to pick one, it would be the 1000 - for its clarity, and "acoustic" tone.
