Yoo no matter what, so much respect for Hector.. fighting a demigod... going toe to toe with him and just only a man. Achillis knew he killed a good man that day.
Well yeah, but then he still needs some time to think things over. Dragging Hector's body and not giving him a proper burial would have ruined everything. His own men could have turned against him and killed him for that, in order to appease the gods. That's why people killed witches, although Monty Python's point is valid.
ultimately, this is the best portrayal of hector in any retelling of the Iliad. Other versions have him dying super early with a spear to the throat while fleeing on a chariot. Other versions having him running until he gains the courage to fight. He is always written to be fearful and a bit cowardly, though a good man. This version, he is obviously afraid, but he isn't a coward, and is probably the most dignified character in the film besides Priam. This is basically the best Hector, a man who is almost on par with Achilles, a demi-god. I thought Ajax died too quickly though lol.
I completely agree with your opinion on how he’s portrayed in this film. Based off everything I’ve read. I feel like the story of him running until he had to fight, seems most likely. Who knows tho.
Yeah it would have been cooler to see Ajax kill more Trojans. And it would have been cool to see an actor worthy of the role of Hector.. The script was great, and Brad couldn't have played it any better. But my main point is I agree, Hector could have been given a lot more credit. "Oh dang the alien gods of Olympus have landed! Go out and kill them after you wash the dishes Hector." Yeah, too much of that vibe. But Brad was great. Epic. Which makes sense in a weird way. The world-class actor vs. the amateur. Etc. The scene has layers. Watched it about 10 times to figure out how Achilles got the spear end he stabbed Hector with (he grabbed it from him right?). Great combat sequence though from both actors.
@@chad9017 No he broke hectors spear in the beginning. It was Achilles spear he tosses it to the ground when hector trips if if I remember correctly. Then when hector has two swords Achilles picks his spear back up an snaps it in half before stabbing hector with it.

God, the choreography in this fight is fantastic! I can't imagine the amount of work and time that must have went into this...both of these guys should be proud of this scene!
It’s the first time you see Achilles actually a little winded, it’s a testament to how great a fighter Hector was also…love the way he steals the broken spear out of Hectors hand, didn’t see that in the theatre…thanks for the clip, watched it a half dozen times now….at least
When Hector died, that was the fall of Troy. Everybody except for Hector was a fool from that house. The father the uncle causing the younger brother, and empire built upon the heads of fools. Minus the great noble honorable Hector.
Eh. I mean, taking his p🐈⬛️ssy of a brother's place & sacrificing himself was kind of foolish. He died leaving his family and an entire kingdom to be ran by fools. The only smart one was the baby 🤣
For me it is one of the best fights ever filmed. Achilles is the best fighter of his era but Hector is well known too. However when the fight starts even someone unfamiliar with fighting realizes after a few moves that Achilles is superior. Hector manages to keep up for a short while but he's at the very limit of his strength and skills and has to go all in while we see Achilles calmly attack and defend, waiting for the right moment to land the killing blow. Hector puts on a good fight though - some instant kill techniques of Achilles that he used earlier in the movie do get blocked by Hector so as the fight goes on even Achilles starts to struggle a little bit and even comes close to being wounded - a completely new experience for him which pisses him off. What's even better though is the aftermath of the fight when Priam sneaks into the Greek camp to retrieve his dead son. Achilles realizes that his entire life is questionable because it means the death of good men, just so that his name should be remembered.
Hector is a commander and leader while Achilles has a killer instinct. that is the difference between them. Achilles fight for vengeance and Hector fight to defend.

The Bible tells us in the book of Romans 6:23 "For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord." and in Ecclesiastes 7:20 it says "Certainly there is no righteous man on earth who does good and never sins." This tells us that all human beings are sinners (we all break God's law), therefore, we deserve God's punishment for going against his word, but the good news is that through his son Jesus Christ we can obtain forgiveness of sins: John 3:16 [16] For God loved the world so much that he gave his only begotten Son, so that everyone who believes in him may not perish, but may have eternal life. Romans 5: 8 [8] But God shows his love for us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Jesus Christ the only begotten son of God died on a cross for all humanity more than 2000 years ago, rising on the third day and paying a high price for our sins, since in the Bible it tells us that there is a heaven after death but also There is a hell and the kingdom of heaven can only be reached through Jesus Christ through the forgiveness of sins, it is not through any virgin or any saint, or by any other means, there is only one mediator between God and men, so if you want to go to heaven you have to repent of your sins (fornication, lies, etc.) and follow Jesus (obey biblical commandments). Freshy freshy off the sidelines Achillies was. No one can say that wouldnt have been a factor. I dont think Hector was tired from fighting 1 man. More like he was tired from fighting for days already. What it looked like to me, anyways. I think thats the only reason Achillies won.
and if it makes anyone mad watch the clip over and over Achilles gutted him right in front of his wife and home beat him like he was a baby compared to him over and over gutted
He was mocking Hector by doing that. The shield + sword combo is amazing in one on one combat. Not using the shield for what it is designed for would be practically suicide in a real fight against a skilled opponent. So Achilles was really just saying "i'm so much better than you, i can have a shield on my back to slow me down, not use it at all and still dominate you".
"If they ever tell my story, let them say I walked with giants. Men rise and fall like the winter wheat, but these names will never die. Let them say I lived in the time of Hector tamer of horses. Let them say, I lived in the time of Achilles."
I don't have words for how much I love the choreography of this scene...Don't have words for how much I love the entire movie. This is just top shelf shit all the way around the board. Thanks for sharing the scene.
A great movie that was underrated because the timing was bad as Gladiator with Russell Crowe came out before it and cleaned up at the Oscars. Had this been in reverse it would have been Troy and Brad Pitt taking home the Oscars.
There are 3 things that make me love so much this scene. First, they show how tiresome is fighting and dueling. Second, they showed how efficient armor is, even in this age. And lastly, they've used the Gladius correctly - as a piercing weapon, not a cutting/slashing one.
Great battle scene, showing how tiring fighting is, how much better Achilles was. I think they still did too many cuts, but it's better than most other duels.
You tire fast in a fight, the great Bruce Lee showed that to people which is why he kept his body in such phenomenal shape. He spoke about fights in which he should have finished off opponents much faster, but wasn't in tip-top shape and so it took longer than it should have.
I hadn't noticed before that Achille grabs the spear right out of Hector's hand @4:17, before sticking it in his shoulder. It's such a slick move :) Brilliant choreography.
For anyone who doesn't know, Achilles is not only the greatest warrior of his time, but he is s demi god. His mother is a water nymph or w.e so she is a low tier goddess. His father was human. So his physical stats far outclassed everyone because of his demi god status. He's basically a lower version of Hercules. Both demi gods but one has a father in zues and the other has a low tier goddess.
But the one that makes Achilles much more dangerous is that his mother dipped him into the river Styx, which makes his body invulnerable to normal weapons (except his heels, where his mother hold him when she dipped him)
@@Kurodo222 you are overreacting also accusing me as a weirdo right away, I think you are bipolar with no friends my reaction was sarcastic and it affected you that much?
But they were all defeated by Kassandra. She was also an Isu descendant, a demigod in the views of mortals,。Her father was the Isu Pythagoras, and her mother was the daughter of Leonidas.
People forget not only Achilles was a Demi-god but also plunged within the river Styx making him near invulnerable to anything except his ankle, the longer he fights the more ferocious he fights, its shown here and the beach battle not only that he was the son of a prince making him a warlord and has had training & experience very few have with an unorthodox fighting style aswell. Those are a few things I’d like to point out.
Hell of a battle considering Hector held his own against Achillies, who was completely invincible at the time(no ones knew about his heel yet). The only reason Paris killed Achillies was because Apollo guided the arrow. I love this scene.
I saw this movie probably 20 times on my computer and read the dialogue script many times.. it was available in pdf back then.. it's been 15 years and very nostalgic feeling watching it today.. i love this movie.
The only bad dialogue in the movie was Pitt's Achilles calling King (whatever his name was, I forget right now), but calling him a "sack of wine". Lol I knew they were referring to a sack of shit, but people didn't talk like that in ancient times, so, they had to come up with somethin I guess. Lol
yeah, that's a hard scene to look at because he just totally disrespected the King, Hector's father and the city of Troy by dragging a Prince through dirt like that. It's just F'ed up, but he was mad because Hector killed his cousin even though it was an accident because Hector thought it was him.

This fight scene is a perfect example of how great people loss when taking up the fight for a true Snake 🐍. Paris was a snake and the Great Hector died for it
"Get up prince of Troy, I won't let a stone take away my glory" - Talk about fair fight, I'm not gonna stab or kick you while you're down. Get up and I'm gonna beat you fair and square. This fight goes to show that Achilles could've kill him when they met at the temple, but since there aren't any witnesses to see the battle, Achilles let him go.
I fell in love with the character of hector This movie was full of emotions for me I loved hector so much so i didn't feel pity when Achilles was killed by paris The man behind hector is skillful & has that aura of loveable babyface
Hector in the first fight should have known he wasn't facing the true Achilles because the cousin was too clumsy. Though he knew some of Achille's moves he was nowhere near as skilled as the true Achilles. When the helmet was removed and the cousin was revealed Hector knew right then he was a dead man walking as the fear came over his face.
I remember in the BTS, the fight choreographer gave Achilles a more "elegant" fighting style like a martial art. Whereas Hector was more of a brawler, where it was more about the experience than technique.
Yeah and those powerful words of perhaps the entire movie followed after he came out to face him. "You'll wonder through the underworld tonight without sight, without ears or a tongue. Blind, deaf, and dumb. And they'll look at you and say, there goes Hector the fool that thought he killed Achilles". Lol
I always felt that Achilles wasn't just a bit better here but leagues better. He is toying with Hector. He could finish this at any point but only decides to do so when Hector lands a blow. Plus Hector's clean strike to his armored heel is a nice touch.
Far above Hector, remember that Achilles was a demigod, not exactly a fair fight 😂 but he managed to get Achilles a bit winded, which is an amazing accomplishment since Hector was a man. Worthy opponent, but only had, like they say in boxing a punchers chance
I have watched this many times and I never realized that Hector could have won. Hector fought knowing and believing he was going to die. He was really sloppy fighting here. If only he would have canceled that dream and would have fought believing he was going to beat this demi god.
Something I liked quite a bit, you can tell that Hector had zero experience fighting with 2 edged weapons. Instead of using them in concert together to attack, which would have ended the fight very quickly might I add, he uses them one at a time. The moment that Achilles gets his hands on the spear, he uses them both together, which results in the spear in Hectors chest. Clearly, he knew how to fight with two edged weapons where his opponent didnt.
Could be me but Achilles, for as great a warrior as he was, never struck me as particularly heroic. Yes, he was loved by his men and he loved them and yes, he exemplified military virtues. But Achilles was part of an invading army and Hector was fighting to protect it....and died for it.
in Greek myths heroism doesn't always translate into good like how we see it in modern times. many Greek heroes had flaws that made them downright despicable by today's standards. it's just that they were heroes cause they did great things. hope this helps😁
@@DoroteoVilla Even in the movie you can notice the tension in the greek invasion forces between the myrmidons and the king, the king wanted Achilles and the warriors to fight for him but then again he didn't want them to overperform and get all the glory, this led to disagreements between the 2 and that's why Achilles was furious with how Menelaus acted.

Achilles in this embodies being like water ..he flows when needed...crashes when needed..at points it looks like he's dancing and at others very bullish...the fight choreography is top notch The only criticism I could make if is if they could show the difference in there ability a little bit more subtly but I guess it also goes to show that there was a chasm between the two of them
Difference between Achilles and Hector Achilles will be a hero for ever in the earth but slave in the hell. Hector humiliated princ with death in fight, but in peace in Paradise.
The only problem with this scene is that it's fairly realistic (especially in comparison to other Hollywood fight scenes) until they drive a broken spear and a sword through armor (well that and the fact that the armor they're both wearing is visibly fake). Other than that it's a remarkably well-done scene. You can really see the resignation on Hector's face, armed with the knowledge that he is going to die.
This and Revenge of the Sith’s Anakin and Obi-Wan fight are probably the two best choreographed fights in film. The fact that all the actors performed it themselves makes it even better
Hector had been fighting for days already while Achillies had been on the side lines watching. Hector was far from fresh like Achillies straight of the bench.

ultimately, this is the best portrayal of hector in any retelling of the Iliad.

He was flexing on him the whole fight

Jesus Christ the only begotten son of God died on a cross for all humanity more than 2000 years ago, rising on the third day and paying a high price for our sins, since in the Bible it tells us that there is a heaven after death but also There is a hell and the kingdom of heaven can only be reached through Jesus Christ through the forgiveness of sins, it is not through any virgin or any saint, or by any other means, there is only one mediator between God and men, so if you want to go to heaven you have to repent of your sins (fornication, lies, etc.) and follow Jesus (obey biblical commandments).

This is one of the best well choreographed melee weapon fight scene I ever saw. Seeing it in theatres was amazing.

Achilles was a better warrior
But Hector was a better man
I have watched this many times and I never realized that Hector could have won. Hector fought knowing and believing he was going to die. He was really sloppy fighting here. If only he would have canceled that dream and would have fought believing he was going to beat this demi god.
Yes he was fighting sloppy. He was already defeated mentally
Hector is really the Protagonist for me :(
Could be me but Achilles, for as great a warrior as he was, never struck me as particularly heroic. Yes, he was loved by his men and he loved them and yes, he exemplified military virtues. But Achilles was part of an invading army and Hector was fighting to protect it....and died for it.
