I think there are many songs from the Mangini era that we will never hear again!
I would like to think the band remains diverse through their catalog, however you could be right and Portnoy may not want to shed much light on the Mangini era. I'd like to see Portnoy do On the Backs of Angels or The Alien though!

So many years ago now, but still the same holistic approach to drumming. Right off the bat, Mangini followed the music with his playing, and his interpretations enhanced the music he was playing to.
This is one of the main reasons I loved his playing- the way he followed guitar and keyboards throughout most of the songs he played to.
I’m so glad we have so much Dream Theater music with his playing.
It's just brilliant, all of it. Musically and technically. What an inspiration.

Great video showcasing how Mike was complementing the melodic lines of other instruments, not just keeping time or playing a groove. Which reminds me of the goofballs saying Mangini is not MuSiCaL (😅), just a technical monster. Whatever. It doesn't get more musical than this goofballs, clean your ears.

Creativeness goes to Portnoy. But, musically and technical proficiency goes to Mangini. Two winners. I could never choose one over the other. I remember watching the drum auditions for Portnoy's replacement. When the Mangini audition was over, I said to myself, there's no need to watch anyone else.
He just uploaded for MP. Because, MP request this. but, Somethings error occurs. Then MM upload to his YT Channel. 😂😂😂(Just kidding)

that's the daddy of all drum kits, right there. too bad you gave it up on the last dt tour. playing, stellar, nothing to add to that.
Blame it on the bat soup.
The size of the kit was reduced on A View because DTHQ didn't have enough space for a larger kit at the time. As a result, for the tour they kept a similar downsized kit (this also helped save money I think), which is still cool... but IMO not as cool as the massive one he had previously.

The comparisons were dumb when Mangini was in DT and they're also dumb now
The Chycki snare sound is more dead than my interest in the new DT stuff. Only Mangini could make it sound so dynamic.
