Ohhh my god what a day 😮 ennerdale is my favourite place in all the lakes love it so much but I have never seen those conditions ever , you did well I would have panicked for sure . Glad all ended well 👍
Commenting from the U.S. Cool video. Love hiking but haven't done any hiking and tent camping. Would like to do that sometime. Amazing footage that first day - nice sunny hike with some wind at the top. Crazy how the weather turned dramatically for the 2nd day. It looked so foggy the next morning. Was it easy to find the trails and know where you were going or were you using a compass and map? Nice footage showing blocked routes from torrents and the flooded path with your comments about changing plans to get back safely. Was helpful to have your animation of your path overlaid on the map to understand your eventual exit. Hiking in bad weather requires added care and good thinking. Good job getting down safely!
I was using the Ordinance Survey map app on my phone with GPS (though I did have a paper map and compass as backup). So I wasn't ever really lost. I put the animated map in at the last minute as I thought the video wasn't making much sense without it, glad it helped. I just wish I'd filmed the actual climb back out of the valley, but I was exhausted and the camera batteries needed changing. Which at the time just seemed too much hassle, I just concentrated on getting out of there. Not sure I'd be brave enough to hike and camp in the US, with all those bears, wild boars, mountain lions etc, we only have the weather to contend with :) Thanks for watching. 👍
Yess just came accross your chanel buddy what a change from the days camp eh that was terrible conditions coming back down great to keep the faith and still film it just a good reminder of how bad it can get sometimes and hopfully others will take that onboard great vlog buddy nice views on day one going up new sub marra will check in on the next one ....BUTCHY
That sure was an adventure 😮It's incredible how quickly the weather and conditions can change in lakeland. Pleased you managed to get down safely. New sub for you. Have a great weekend 😊 👍🏻
Great video buddy very well filmed a good mix of everything including the great drone footage.... flippin'ek Marra over the years I've been every where down that valley but never seen it like that so well done filming and showing us...just caught up with ya channel and subbed....tek care stay have a great weekend ATVB Andy and The ROCK STAR ⭐ 🙏🏻
The minute you said you thought you'd gamble on the south bank, I thought. NOOOOO!!!!! You probably should have gone further up the valley about 2 miles and crossed on one of the higher bridges and then back along the forestry road. Live only 6 miles from Ennerdale but never been up on the fells on the southern side of the lake. Perhaps something to try when the weather gets a little better?
Thanks for watching, yeah I did consider heading further back down the valley but I wasn't sure what state those bridges would be in. I'm hoping to do the Coast to Coast next year so I'll be heading further down the valley. Cheers! 👍
@@TheHikingJournal C2C currently goes down S side but I think with the adoption they are going to point the route on the N bank. If you need any local knowledge for The western lakes of the C2C, ask away. Live local and did the route in Sep 22.
Tricky stuff. A nice example of how things can quickly change. It only takes a strong flowing 25cm water depth to knock a person off their feet, and depending on where you are that can have serious consequences...
This is, as I remember part of the Coast2Coast I did 2015 early September. Dry as a bone the whole hike. Tell me, why would you go out knowing the weather was going to be bad the next day? Just asking from New Zealand.
Thanks for watching and I'm glad it brought back memories of the C2C, that trail is on my to hike list soon. Regarding the weather conditions; we've had a bad summer, so when there was a break in the weather I have to get out and make the most of it and I don't remember there being a weather warning for the following day just rain forecast, which isn't usually a problem especially in summer. But hindsight is 20/20...
This video is a really good example of how localised the weather in the UK can be. It's no big deal going out if the forecast is for rain, but sometimes those localised downpours just fall in a catchment that can change things dramatically. Well done for keeping your cool and coping with one of Mother Nature's soggier days! :)
Yes , this was very good and one of the best aspects was showing possible need to adapt under some pressure , pardon the pun. No , really great piece that feeling of having to start again even repeating previous steps . I usually do that in bad conditions whilst also being lost 😊 . Hats off , enjoyed every minute , apologies !
Yeah I really didn't want to head all the way back up the fell, but that morning it was the only way around those fast flowing becks. Glad you enjoyed it, thanks for watching. Cheers!
We all like circular hikes and camps, but having to retrace your steps more than a couple of times is a bit 'awkward'. More power to you for persevering and not becoming a statistic!
I think this channel is about to blow up. Great video mate! Really enjoyed it!
Ha thanks, it'll probably be a 'one hit wonder' 🤣👍

Brilliant vid. Crazy weather and nice to watch whilst sat at home, warm and with a brew 😅
Ha thanks, yeah for me too it's a fun one to look back on from a warm fry living room. Cheers for watching!
Great video. Great learning experience. Honkin' weather. I learned "Stay high, keep dry" in similar weather....😂
Thanks! "Stay high, keep dry" - like it, I'll try and remember that one :)

If you wait for a dry day in the lakes you might not do any walking.
@RetropUk We must have been very lucky in September 2015 doing the C2C, one day of light rain.

Great video, some conditions there! New sub from us.
Cheers for the sub! It was very much 'type 2 fun'. I'll check out your channel. Thanks for watching.
@ “type 2 fun”🤣 thank you very much mate, I really appreciate that!

Could be worse places to be trapped, my local haunt, I live couple miles just outside there.
Yeah, Ennerdale is a stunning part of The Lake District. Thanks for watching!
Very exposed camping position
