I love how much you show that parenting is something you do together. That it is not just on the mum. That time of for fathers is important. Most people always say, yes it is important but you guys are actually showing it and it seems like you truly life by that. Grey is adorable, I wish you all the best!
Also TOTALLY agree that the focus shouldn't all be about the birth when you are pregnant! The birth.. you get through.. it's the "after" that broke me!

I couldn't agree more with Rich. When we have our baby I couldn't stop thinking how amazing single parents are, and how tough must be for them. Congratulations guys! ❤️
There is nothing in life better than little newborn baby snugs. Congratulations to you. Grey is such a cute little baby.
In Germany the midwife comes to your home every day after birth for at least 14 days. Its a missive help with feeding and all other issues regarding you and your newborn. I am so glad I had that help. 💕
In Croatia we have a nurse coming to see you for months. Also after C section you will be staying in a hospital a week.
It made a huge difference for us, especially with the feeding. I think otherwise I would've had problems with the feeding, but she kept correcting me each day and made breastfeeding go smooth
That's amazing. We don't have that in Canada. Other than regular doctor's appointments to check on the baby after they're born, you're on your own.
Oh yes, I also loved the daily visits from our midwife. Helps so much with all the feeding issues and In can still text her now everytime I have a question and my baby is already seven months old.
If you have a midwife you will have a few visits.

@@SR-ql9he I get the concept very well - but unsure how that fits here? Lily is known for being incredibly honest on her channel and this video was completely honest and open about how they are going. I think it's pretty obvious they are already fantastic parents and I wish them all the best on their journey :) x

Absolutely agree with what Rich said about there not being enough education around what happens after birth, our little girl is 6 months old this week and we totally didn’t know what we were getting ourselves into!
I love that last bit that Rich said. True about marriage, too! Everyone focuses on the wedding and not what comes after.

Grey is so cute, you guys look so natural, and honestly the fact that Rich could take plenty of time off is amazing. You’re right, is a team work, and father should have more time by law. I only hope when my time comes, my husband can negotiate take more time, in Chile dads only get 1 week 😢 but I know though that our family’s are going to be super supportive!

Definitely more support needed we found the first two months the hardest . Our baby had colic and our baby wouldn't be put down in the day , we had good family around us to help as we found that more tiring than doing night feeds . U are all doing amazingly xx

Grey is so cuddly and gorgeous and you both look so happy! Massive congratulations! Having a baby is super tough, I agree about all the stuff the happens after birth. I had twins and I just couldn’t get over how much things changed literally in one day. You going from being pregnant to suddenly being this tiny person(s) total support. You cant just learn how to change a nappy one day, learn feeding the next day, figuring out the cries the following day. They come out and it’s just “go! Keep this/these human/s alive!” The first few months were a total haze for us. It really is such an amazing time though, I love being a mum and wouldn’t change it for anything int the world but man, its super tough!
All the best to you both! My daughter lost a lot of weight and really struggled with feeding in the first few weeks, which was a bit of a shock since she was my second and that part went fine with my son. All I can say is forgive yourself for whatever you are feeling and the decisions that you feel are best for you and your baby. When you’re in the thick of it, no one really wants to hear “you’ll get through it. Just wait.” But you will.
I have to say, I am not the “target audience” for this type of video, but I have been a follower for years and watching you and Rich do the “baby thing” in your own way is so great. I actually smiled watching this video (as silly as that sounds). Congratulations to you both and thank you for sharing!

Congratualtions! With our first 10 years ago my husband had to go back to work after 4 days as he was self employed and we simply couldn't afford longer, I had a c section and suffered badly with PND with our second he had two weeks off and even though I had lost my Dad the year before mentally I was so much better. We are due our third boy in November and he is taking a month off. I really feel there is a massive link in support and mental health. My husband is lovely with our children and such a great support and seeing Rich so hands on and supportive bought me to tears...maybe hormones ha but he is an amazing man and Lily you look like a natural. Wishing you all a lifetime of health and happiness xx
That’s so true ‘even when you think you know you don’t know’ that’s exactly how I felt at first. The fog will lift soon and it will come with a whole set of new challenges but one day you’ll look back on the hardest of early days and still feel so happy. My son is 5 and I’m still surprised as the weeks/months go by Xxx

Congratulations! I loved that you addressed the focus always being on birth and labour. I’m a Postnatal Midwife and I see everyday the shock of new sleep derived parents, the steep learning curve of breastfeeding and mother crafting (the fourth trimester!).

Congratulations! Yes it's the post-birth "stuff" that isn't focused on and it's that "stuff" that often couples struggle with and which can really test your relationship. I did mention in your birth-prep video to focus on what comes after, as of course the birth is very important but the focus some people place on it and everything being "perfect" for the birth compared to focusing on a safe delivery and more focus on the YEARS of "stuff" ahead as a parent and/or a couple has always puzzled me. So lovely to see you battling this as a team. The first few months will seem like a roller-coaster but you'll look back on them fondly, particularly in terms of that first baby newborn bubble. Enjoy! There's ups and downs for everyone in motherhood/fatherhood for sure, but the single mum recognition doesn't go unnoticed. Keep up the good work :-D XX
I completely agree with you guys, myself and my husband both said in the last almost 3 weeks, we’ve found having a newborn such a shock, we definitely didn’t feel mentally prepared enough beforehand. And have said countless times, we don’t know how a single parent would do it, it seems near impossible.

What a wonderful thing to see, the two of you working together. I had a terrible experience with my ex husband and I left when my son was a few weeks old. Have been a single parent ever since, he’s nearly 4 now. It’s just nice to see someone promote the idea that men can and should be just as involved and responsible as women, in their child’s life and upbringing. Mazel tov xx

Totally agree re the support. So much of the midwife appointments focus around the birth rather than how to cope in those first couple weeks. I was knocked sideways by how challenging feeding was and it had a huge effect on my mood at the beginning. I’d even been to a breastfeeding class beforehand, which made it all seem so natural and easy. No mention of the potential infections and how to deal with them/prevent them. I managed to get through it and actually ended up feeding for 18 months, but so many of my friends didn’t stick with it (which is obv fine), but I think they would have if they’d had more information from the start. Anyway, so happy for you both - keep up the good work, she’s clearly thriving xxx
It really is a tremendous blessing for the two of you to learn to care for your baby together. I had my babies so many years ago when many fathers were not much involved with their babies. It was a lonely and confusing time those first 2 or 3 months especially. I am so happy for all of you that you have each other! Your baby Grey is adorable!!
I have been following you for for a few years now and it’s so lovely to see your lives on UA-cam as a couple -married and now with a beautiful baby. Congratulations to you both. I had my babies many years ago and paternity leave just wasn’t offered and even now it’s not something that is available to all especially if you’re self employed. You need that extra support so you are v lucky to have Rich there to help in those precious weeks . My daughter has just had her second and had fantastic breast feeding support from her midwifery team which really helped. Just keep on doing what you’re doing and you’ll be fab parents. As you say life has changed forever in a good way xxxx
Our first baby is 8 weeks old and it’s so true about the lack of advice about after birth. The night sweats and all the things like how much your shoulders and arms hurt after birth from learning to feed and pushing, no one ever told me about those parts! You both seem to have taken to parenting like absolute naturals. Grey is beautiful ♥️
Huge congratulations to you both. What a stunning name love it. You can do all the pre planning but nothing can explain the experience. It’s so tough the first six months but your doing a great job, be kind to yourselves and each other. Sleep deprivation is the worst. Well done on sticking with the breastfeeding, Lansinoh is brilliant and they do beads that you can put in the fridge/freezer they are heaven. What you say at around 9 minutes about the preparation of what comes AFTER the hospital and you get home with the baby is so true. And important. I felt the same and I am in Austria...

I can totally agree with the time after the delivery being the hardest a bit of a rude awakening. I’d also agree that here in the US as well we could use some better guidance on feeding and what to expect after the baby arrives. It’s a rough couple of months in the beginning but it gets easier and a tons more fun! Congratulations! 👶🏼🎉

My other half is self-employed and had work commitments that mean he didn't have Paternity Leave with our first born... You are absolutely right when you say there should be better after-care and support in place! Most women are so well looked after when they are pregnant, when delivering a baby etc... I even think you should still be offered support and checks throughout the first year! Generally there could be so much more... The hardest job you will ever do, obviously the most rewarding, but still so hard! Love that you're being honest and open about both the highs and lows xx

Congratulations! Totally agree there is way too mucubfocud on labour and not enough on what to do after especially feeding the baby. Breastfeeding was by far the hardest part for me and some support would have really helped. You are doing an amazing job x

I’m also currently in the newborn bubble! My little girl was born 22/5 and we’ve just hit the 4 week mark. You’re so right: I can’t even begin to think about anything else, and leaving the house feels like such a mammoth task. Thank you for posting this video! It’s nice to tap into someone else in the exact mindset as me and just find that reassurance.
Congratulations! I love that Rich is being so supportive! I literally high fives the TV when he was talking about how he should be involved with helping you feed etc. Love it. Breastfeeding is hard but it does get better. By about 8 weeks with routine etc it all starts to feel a bit more normal.

Rich is so lovely to say that about parents needing more support and I can tell you’re so grateful to have his help... so true what you both said. Mums get chucked in at the deep end and dads go to work feeling like they’re missing out and feel helpless. Hopefully something changes soon to allow dads to support their partners and children more.
