The talent and the stars that are guests on this show and others like it , the stars didn't think they were above it they were wholesome people back then
You can tell Steve was off his game here. He had something on his mind because you could see the effort in concentration he was exhibiting. He did get in a good Steve Allen zinger with "it's just another case of a stuck window". Jayne was not very good but a delight. I love these two.
He's also really sharp in that he legitimately remembered virtually all the guests names, occupations and hometowns. Rarely was it, but I've seen him catch himself saying the wrong town or name and apologize to the guest. Like he REAAALLY tried to remember that stuff and be sincere, it wasn't just fluff in the first few seconds of the show. I don't think after hundreds of episodes and thousands of guests i could give that much of a shit about another face or even be able to remember it for 3 seconds, but Allen really seems to have. And his ability to just be cordial and sincere to everyone was palpable. I've never seen anyone so amiable. Not even Sajak or Trebek.
@@maxdecphoenix I agree. He took the game and time VERY seriously because he wanted those people to win as much as they could. And yet... I CAN'T STAND his demeanor when he cuts guests off. I know it's for a good and honest reason but he can be extremely rude sometimes. I always interpreted it as not letting any guest try and steal his thunder on HIS show. But that's just the bitch in me I suppose because, honeslly, I still think he was the best host. Maybe SOME celebrities just shouldn't play game shows.
I agree about Allen Ludden constantly warning Jayne Meadows about her using hand gestures. But truth be told, all the contestants, before this particular episode and continuing episodes knew that there were NO consequences for breaking the game rules.
Sorry to be off topic but does anyone know a method to get back into an Instagram account?? I was stupid lost the account password. I love any help you can give me!
@Bjorn Wilder thanks for your reply. I found the site thru google and im in the hacking process atm. Looks like it's gonna take a while so I will get back to you later with my results.
Love watching these Password videos, thank you! I find some of the comments so interesting, mainly because many people criticize the clues given by contestants and celebrities based on TODAY, not based on the mid-60s! Something I find fascinating is that the players and Allen Ludden all speak correct (American) English. The pronunciation is more precise than today generally and the overuse of the word "like" - as seen and heard today - is non-existent!
Although under pressure I don't know if I would think of it, but for "beetle" certainly after a couple clues, I would have started to name the boys… (Probably "Ringo" first and then maybe "Paul" etc.)
I saw some show a loong time ago, that made someone sit on his/her hands when their turn came. Some corrected themselves by crossing their arms. I don't remember if there was a penalty or not. Moving her hands and fingers around can be distracting to her partner also.
A sousaphone is a type of tuba that was invented for marching bands. Tubas are too heavy to carry around while you're marching so they invented the sousaphone. The tubing goes over your shoulder making it much lighter.
Sousa is famous for 'stars and stripes forever.' He wrote tons of marches and wanted the tuba to be featured so the portable version of the instrument was invented for him. I think the good doctor was hoping the clue of 'Sousa' in the name would give it away as tuba even if someone wasn't familiar with the term sousaphone. But even for the 60's that's sort of a 'band kid' clue.
I think during that last lightning round, after the contestant said "Pane" if Allan had repeated that word as the next clue, I think that would have done it. Hard to say though. He did give some very good clues.
@@4monkeystyle PERFECT! Although not as a first clue… Is the answer would clearly be something like "car" or "automobile". But along with other clues, perfecto for that time period!
I'm surprised nobody use the word "Rocket" for "Launch" - certainly could have done it for the second clue. Of course rocket launches were maybe not quite yet (normally) televised, I suppose, in 1965.
I agree with the remark of Daniel Benson. So many of those stars do gestures, but Audrey Meadows is worse about it.She acts like she can't think of clues for any words.I always liked Steve Allen, and thought he was cute.He is also funny.

Jayne Meadows was as big a pain in the ass as was Carol Burnett and Betsy Palmer for never shutting up when only allowed to give a one-word clue. Three real prima donnas who always wanted to be the centre of attention. Jayne's husband Steve Allen looked to be mortified and when Jayne looked over at him on a few occasions he never looked at her out of frustration. Even the lovely Alan Ludden was exasperated with her incessant yapping.
She even came up with a new way of cheating I hadn't seen before. 19:04 She utters the beginnings of 3 different words while watching her teammate's face for a positive response - "cooorr.....barrrr.....criiii...." The 1st 2 i guess were corn and barley...I can't guess the 3rd.
I wish they would have done this format more often. Would have been nice to give the champion a bonus!

This is a very fun game !! I don’t why they didn’t say rocket 🚀 for launch ! Especially with the good Dr.
Ludden is really sharp, to realize so quickly that the doctor heard salami as Salome.

Alan Ludden's expressions are priceless.
Luden was a lil mean to Jane. He never went after the men like that
Jayne does look pretty here
First time I have heard that name for a tuba myself, I would have been lost like Jayne.

For "Beetle" he might have tried, "British" and "Lads" (along with Sullivan and maybe the word "show")

It always confuses the contestants when you combine different meanings with your clues. Especially during a lightning round.
@@lynnturman8157 this is true; sometimes you have to resort to that (when they are not getting it with the easier clues).
"Ringo" ....."Bug"....
I was thinking maybe "Pumpernickel" might have been a fair clue somewhere in there for "Rye."
I never knew that Jane Meadows and Steve Allen wow
Jane needed to save her acting for stage lol

@Christopher Bingham Or lift
It almost makes me not want to watch this cause of Jane. She'd point over to the other team for her person to guess the word.
villain is an easy 1 word clue. HEROOOW
How did Steve get away with Benny Goodman lol
Jayne Meadows is funny but just not a very good Password player!
Doubt she came back
take off is two words
I am SO glad Steve won every game. I am so SICK of Jane Meadows! Alan has told her WAY too many times about her hands and she STILL does it!

The rules obviously don't apply to Jayne Meadows. She must have been a handful growing up.

You’re thinking Scotch Plains maybe.
Nope, been in New York since its incorporation
It's in Westchester County, north of NYC.

Beatles is spelled "B E A T L E" !!!! Not , beetle !!!!
so, what? they never asked them to spell it. More people would get beetle if you said things relating to the band than the insect
Beatles counts as a specific person, when they select words for the Lightning Round they stick to Adjectives or Nouns and Beetle counts as a Noun.
Jayne is so annoying. Always "on".
