"I have to be lawful good in real life"
*Looks out window
God I wish more people felt the same way
@@babyitsnatural there are many shades to lawful good. An altruistic man that refuses to break the law in order to do altruistic things is lawful good. This enforces being lawful, being good, not having conflict between the two, yet also doesn't have any aspects of forcing one's beliefs onto others.
Honestly, I rolled my eyes out at that affirmation. It is so blatantly pretentious that i seriously doubt he is any good as he thinks he is.
@@FrightMask honestly, yeah, it is kinda cringe in that it mirrors the "nice guy" sentiments. Also society doesn't obligate you to be lawful good. Your country tries to obligate you to be lawful, but that's clearly not hard to circumvent, and you can be anti-framework in tons of other mediums and balance that out anyways. As for being good, that's even less plausible. Plenty of people have very stable lives and are very self serving. I feel he should have said "I try enough to be lawful good in real life so I want to go in a more escapist direction in my games".
@@FrightMask not sure how serious he meant it. We all ‘have’ to be lawful good right? As in, we are expected to be so, no matter if you are or want to. That is how I assumed he meant it.
Acknowledges the world would be a better place if more people thought about being positive.
Goes on to criticise the cringe in someone being positive.
Conflicted rumblings begin.
"Disregard Gods, Become LEGEND"
- Man
My character is an atheist.
Legend is awesome but Ignore it cause I don't like the Hypocrisy of Iomadae. She's a mortal who becomes a god but she judges KC for doing the same? Nah. I ignore legend to spite her lol
@@SpaceVENTING I think her argument is that your power is bad because it was given to you by demons.
The angel path feels most natural story wise. Other paths doesn't really flow well when an angel jumps out of thin air and calling you his goddess' chosen one when you are literially using powers of a demon/lich.
Damn, he really does that? I though he wouldn't say it for those paths. Feels like they wrote the angel path, cut out whatever they fancied and hoped it would work narratively for the other paths.
@@user-ci5zp6yf5l it gets addressed if you talk to him. He's concerned about the use of (what he believes is) Iomedae's gift. But you're beating back Deskari with it. So you must be ok deep down.
Like they said, He believes this is his goddess power, and that he is to low to understand why it manifests this way. (Kinda a bitchy move from her not to tell him "Hey yo bro, yeah, i had nothing to do with that demon youre talking about, stay clear)
@@mistercleff8819 She explains why she did not disclose that with anyone. While a stretch she can't lie or have agenda so it comes down to her being simply too undecided on what's best course of action, considering she was not aware of all the facts concerning player character up to the certain point in the story.
@@Cruiser_TV I mean... Yeah, it's an explanation. But The Hand is her most devoted follower. He represents evrything she represents and adores her. One would think she would tell him something so that he doesn't follow you when you could not be more evil, ie, demon or lich. At the end of the day in the evil playtroughs its not crazy to assume she's using you to win the crusade, not caring a whole lot about you and your evil deeds.
As someone who almost always plays a chaotic-good, high charisma, champion of the oppressed, redeemer of the evil, type character in any game that will let me, the Azata path has been perfect for me. I want to at least do an Angel and an Aeon playthrough as well, but not choosing Azata again will be hard.
Yeah this is me too… I just have a very hard time to do bad things even to NPCs and that basically prevents me to play bad routes.
I feel the same way but for the lich path. So few games allow you to play with full on necromancy.
At least once I have started a playthrough, gotten to the Church of Desna, and suddenly my Angel/Aeon/Trickster playthrough has magically become an Azata campaign. I blame shifts in the earth's magnetic field, it totally is not that scene. Totally. Totally.
Well as much I want to do evil, it weighs heavily on me about the fate of NPC, with lore about Golation with earthfall, worldwound, kingmaker naughty fey, do we need more evil character in this world? Either way you will be God when this end so why not leave good impression?
see i prefer chaotic neurtral but ended up as just all over the place on my trickster run im abit dissapointed really cus in kingmaker the alignments were kinda grey but in wrath being good is save everyone even if they kill danm children and evil is kill everyone even if its detrimental and a bad idea for someone who is evil
To me, the path of Legend was the most natural, because despite having gods and demons ready to tear the fabric of reality, i found it very satisfying to find the strenght to get rid of this borrowed power and end this conflict with my bare hands.
I also picked a Monk with Irori as a divinity to really go deep into the "reaching perfection of body and mind with no outside help or shortcuts"
But in the end, every path looked so fun and original that if i have time ( and the will ) to start a new game, it will be hard to chose :)
yeah, i really loved the "fine, ill do it myself" feel of legend path ;p
Basically Saitama
@@nickcomk
🤣😂
@@nickcomk With how you close that thing, it sure feels like it!
Loving my Aeon playththrough with my Gendarme. I was originally planning to do Devil, but I love roleplaying the Lawful Neutral judge of all reality more. Being able to literally see crime is awesome. My only regret is I did not name my gendarme 'Dredd' and name my horse 'Lawmaster'.
Now I want to start a new playthrough as a lawful neutral monk. "Gaze into the fist of Dredd!"
My main character was called Dredd and he was a Inquisitor Judge
You need to looking for "Le Gendarme de St Tropez" too understand what a real modern gendarme is.
Did you play aeon before any other paths? Heard its better to start with another path first
Aeon was definitely my favorite. The story is very different compared to the others, the mechanics of the class itself are all great, but above all else, THAT MUSIC!
Do you have to be good to be a Aeon?
@@rogerkjellstrom429 You have to be Lawful. Very Lawful. Being good and kind instead of being strict and just will actively fuck up your Aeon-ing.
@@b.d.a.8719 Ok Gold dragon is also like that, he even get scolded by Iomedae that he is too good...
Aeon theme is awesome, as is Devils, made the soundtrack of my 1st playthrough amazing
@@rogerkjellstrom429 Aeon has two routes - true (lawful neutral = law above everything, able to redeem several characters by changing the past, no access to ascention ending, but has unique one instead) and renegade (any other lawful aligment, redeeming becomes impossible, can ascend, but ending is basic, also serves as a gateway to devil path)
I recommend Aeon be taken for 2nd playthroughs or later because of huge changes to the story you wouldn't necessarily know are happening if you haven't done others
But you will see those changes on a second playthrough either way, just in reverse.
@@page8301what I’m doing right now, Just caught Drazen yesterday and awoken my Aeon path. My first play through.
I went Lich first, and this time I'm going Hellknight Signifier Aeon to Devil. I read this comment of yours at the beginning of the summer and it made me decide to hold off on an Aeon run, which I definitely think was the right choice. Thanks for that advice 🧙♂️
I am playing as a trickster in act 3. Lots of people think the story is silly. But if you role-play as a cunning super villain, i think trickster suit it very well.
Persuasion Rank 3.
I picked Angel for my first playthrough just because role-play wise it worked the most for my neutral good character. I have to say, it is fun using it to pull rank on the Queen, etc in dialogue. I imagine Aeon feels similar. I'm glad the game doesn't tell you what the other mythic path dialogue is, because it makes the replay prospects more interesting. Next playthrough, def going for a chaotic good Azata character.
Based Azata enjoyer. Aivu is absolutely adorable, and losing her as the Gold Dragon made me roll back an old save just to keep the Azata path. Its also quite strong mechanically, and gives you really fun scenes. Besides, btfoing corruption by singing the Song of Elysium is top tier and no one can convince me otherwise.
You lose Aivu if u go golden dragon?!
@@dregnoff9361 She remains an advisor, and shows up in end game for the camp, IIRC. But she no longer adventures with you.
Which is why my Cavalier, which I planned to go GD from Azata, simply couldn't. The dialogue you get when you confirm Azata was exactly what my PC was thinking. So they did that perfectly.
@@shawngillogly6873 Oh that's not as bad as losing her completely.
I'm running a gold dragon bloodline bloodrager/DD azata, level 14 ATM haven't decided btw going full azata or caping with gold dragon, was inching towards gold dragon cuz build was gear towards dragon transformations cuz tbh that's what got me interested in the game...
Now tho I'm not so sure xD
Oh yeah the first azata interact, singing in the temple and the text bit after. Literally gave me goosebumps
is it not utterly bugged?
Lich and Gold Dragon are my two favorites. I absolutely love the Gold Dragon's unique ending and am glad that I got to see that ending in my first full playthrough
People meme on GD being stupid good but I disagree. Golden dragon despite being about as fantasy as it gets has a very real and a very valid take on how to approqch personal relationships and your life. I know people like Hal personally and theyve been the greatest influences on my life and have helped me find a way through so many things that'd have broken me otherwise
@@Jereb343 Hal causes so much harm. The cultist that he spares when you meet him ends up staying evil and kills innocent people again.
"I HAVE TO be a lawful good person in real life" [3:15]. This made me chuckle. I think it would be more accurate to say we have to act as if we were lawful good in real life. (I am helpful, am I not?)
Someone thinks like me. I've said for decades the real issue with the alignment system isn't that it doesn't work. But rather that it shows most people are, contrary to their public self-image, Lawful Evil. And will do whatever they can safely get away with.
Id say im very far from evil. But also, id agree that im evil well before I agree that im Lawful. There are no laws of the land on Earth that I dont consider to be evil already. Chaotic good BABEY!
@@shawngillogly6873 Yeah alignments fine for manifestations of a concept e.g angel or demon though even there you have exceptions to the rule. However when you start applying it to lets say mortal beings and worse tying class mechanics e.g. monk to it you run into issues.
Most of us are N. Good or L.N. Its the "lawfuls" you gotta watch out for.
I believe most humans are either true neutral or lawful neutral. Some are various levels of good, but they are few. Humanity, IMO leans more towards evil due to the high value we place on fulfilling our self-interests even at the expense of others. A Chaotic good person wants the same thing, except that he/she cares that others don't suffer as a result. This game made me quite fascinated with the alignment system (I've never played table-top games like D&D).
I can't believe I was looking for such ranking a few hours ago and was disappointed that I couldn't find any. You're the best Mortismal !
Noted. I am considering Aeon, Azata or Lich for my next playthrough.
For my first run, I went for angel but I have to admit that it feels a bit boring to me (maybe it was to be expected but I wanted to give it a try).
@@TrueRazarus I was not. He played a lot since the beta, he made videos on all paths so he obviously played them all (maybe not till the end but probably a fair bit). Keep in mind that such kind of video is very subjective and everyone is free to agree or not. With that being said, I always find it funny when people comment just to criticize without providing their reasoning. Why wouldn't you first explain what part you don't agree with instead of calling this a nonsense?
Mortym: "I have to be a Lawful Good person in real life"
Me: *laughs in chaotic neutral*
I'm liking the hell out of the Lich path. Resurrecting cool npc's back to life and being at odds with Iomedae and Areelu is quite fun. I also have an ongoing Angel path and I'm enjoying that too.
I love how thoroughly you have covered this game, and I can't wait for it to go on sale again.
In defense of the angel, in Pathfinder they're NG rather than LG. Archons, are LG. Though not a choice for a mythic path unfortunately.
Right?
They messed up "Good" characters in this game big time.
Said it a million times and I'll say it again: If I play a Paladin, choosing Good dialogue choices should not make me lose my powers.
The Lawful choices in this game are so psychotically bad, that following them as a Paladin genuinely feels like you're playing an Evil character sometimes.
It's a damn shame they figged it up so badly.
@@Wunderkind04 I feel the Lawful dialogue options are purely for Aeon and not much else, except perhaps Hellknight...which I feel is the Aeon class to play. They seem to follow that cosmic judge type path.
@@Wunderkind04 That's Owlcat lawful, unfortunately. And it's a function of the alignment graph being circular instead of a grid. If it was a grid, choices neutral w/ regard to law/chaos would not move you towards chaotic. Which they should not. A paladin, properly, believes order is the best tool to do good. But that is not the same as saying chaos and evil are morally equivalent.
Unfortunately, and one of my biggest gripes at Owlcat in both games, they don't understand the fundamental problem with the alignment circle.
@@shawngillogly6873 100% the alignment circle is pretty retarded.
Actually, angels can be between LN to NG. Angels respresent the deity they serve, thus due to the fact that you will become the angel of Iomedae, which is LG you are LG.
If you watched overlord lich is a must, there is literally almost every spell of the anime in the game
considering i had to stop watching Overlord because pointless evil is just not my thing i disagree, if they allowed non evil Liches to be a thing then hell yes, but sadly theyr lack of imagination once again locks players decision behind "we decided you have to be evil" nonsense ... have they ever heard of Balenorn Liches ? ...
@@Asghaad Dont Balenorn Liches retain their emotions from life. When you become a full lich in the game, you basically don't have any emotions. Makes sense that after the transformation, you're forced to only really do things for your own benefit. I had been playing true neutral lich up until that point and didn't really make any super evil choices, even if it benefitted me. I found it cool that my character changed when all his emotions left.
@@tyler-hp7oq again that is just the same nonsense all over again, just deciding that "you have to lose all emotions"
its the same nonsense as "all angels have to be at best neutral good"
this game is full of arbitrarily pre-decided nonsense that would make me make the HELL out of life of any DM bad enough to try to pull this nonsense on me (and trust me i had, wrecking railroading DMs is kinda my thing )
unfortunatelly i would have to mod about half a game to stop idiotic nonsense like mandatory alignment (instead of consequences and storybuilding around NON COMFORMAL roleplay like good aligned Lich or lets say lawful evil Angel) and two minute long cutscenes where for some reason the party is frozen and cant react no matter what ...
@@Asghaadit's based on dnd so cry about it
@@papahairy5315 and DnD has non evil Liches ...
Chaotic Good always felt like it's the right path for me. Happy to see Azata being number one. That definitively feels the right choice for me.
This is his personal ranking and if you have confirmation bias then you should just pick what you want. Not a single mythic path is best and azata can be weak choice depending on a class you play.
CG irl :)
@@Alen725 I can't think of a single class where Azata is weak. Between the teamwork super power and Aivu, the MC could do absolutely nothing and it would still be in top 3 in terms of power. Depending on the class, your MC might not *feel* as OP, but the party buffs and cleric dragon make everyone else considerably stronger.
Legend and Angel are the strongest since you can turn the MC into an unkillable tank, but those builds are so boring that I doubt many people actually play the whole game using them.
@@amirabudubai2279 Your first sentence contradict everything else you said. I said weak CHOICE, not path. As you said it can be weaker than other paths (for example picking azata over angel while playing as cleric) so it can be a weak choice. But this game isnt super extreme hardcore so obviously azata will always feel strong.
Well being chaotic allow some flexibility, that's what I like the most, being stuck up lawful never seems to interest me.
Once i started playing as a CG Azata and taking Arueshalae into the party, i dont think i can play the game any other way. I couldn't stomache upsetting her. The writing for her character and dialogue outshines everything else ive seen in the game so far.
Devil was actually my favorite mythic path mechanically. Hell's Decrees were fun as _Hell_ and Hell's Seals showed great potential. But it begs to be a full path from Act 3. You can do a lot by giving new Seals, new Authority, new Decrees. But as is, Devil has almost nothing going for it narratively. I want to make deals and trick people. I want to abuse rules of the universe. Instead I get bent over the barrel by Cheliax and then the game ends.
Nevertheless, entering a room and dropping Edict of the Never-Ending War never got old.
As I understand, if you play it right, you actually outmaneuver Cheliax.
@@shawngillogly6873 Ehhh... Kinda, sorta, not really. Spoilers ahead.
Once you become a Devil, you get a chain of council events where Cheliax comes in with the offers of "help". The offers come in form of Cheliax establishing a colonial regime in the Worldwound and expecting you to be okay with it. If you yes-man all their offers, Cheliax completely takes over once you are gone to close the wound. If you disagree with too many - they invade and you have a fight. If you approve only a few of the decisions they offer you to be their colonial governor.
But no matter what, none of this has any impact on the ending. Galfrey has no reactions to the fact that Cheliax rolled in and took over while she was in Iz.
The queen and her little entourage trying to kill me, a literal devil, was the funniest shit I've ever seen when I could literally kill all but 2 of them as a swift action. Even mephistopholes was tired of her crap in that encounter.
@@Nikioko Aeon
One-shotting everyone, including queen with single Tsunami during that fight was extremely satisfying. That being said I think the most beneficial and smart play you can do is to agree to most but not all suggestions from the Cheliax General, which results in Queen visiting you again in Drezen, putting said general to the sword and then getting owned herself when you proclaim she can stuff the governor title up her ass since you're a devil and only Asmodeus has power over you. That makes her scared shitless and Cheliax does not gain anything, respecting your claim to Sarkoris as independant leader.
just finished my normal playthru as legend and i thought it was the coolest shit ever to be two level 20 classes. granted, this is all opinion based anyways and wow the fact that this game has even more choices and paths blows my mind. the ending cutscenes leave me wanting more and i think i may be going a lich or demon playthru next!! subbed. thanks for also keeping it spoiler free
I loved my demon play through, currently on Azata with lich being next. Aivu is just adorable and so well written. she the friend we all want.
Wonder how many people like me went murder hobo in the flesh markets during the azata quest?
On core that fight was so hard, lol, at least for my party. But I would slauhter an entire city of demons to protect Aivu!
@IdleBigots My main problem was the guards in the back casting horrid wilting once or more times per round. I finally won by focusing them down first.
Oh I slaughtered those mother f-ers. No one screws with my dragon pal! My character wasn't even a monk, but I went bare knuckles into the lair just to get more punches in lol.
That was the only fight in the game where I had to cheese it by reloading a previous save and killing some of the slavers beforehand. The way the fight starts with you surrounded and all the guards spamming Horrid Wilting was just too much. Didn't help that I was in the process of doing all the companion quests so like 3/6 of my party weren't characters I had used at all.
I have been waiting for this! Praise be to Lord Mortisimal!
The immortal one is here!
Azata #1 just for the crusaders you can err accept and give knighthood to.
This video is 2 years old, but here i am the night before starting wotr and the inability to not laugh at being a gold dragon at 4:44 made me laugh so hard
I really like the twincasting Azata superpower that twincasts single target. Also Aivu is great. And while I agree on chaotic good, I love chaotic neutral, pushing towards balance, which in most campaigns leans towards good since the world tends to be evil imbalanced in most campaigns.
Some people really enjoy RPing CG because it is an alignment closest to how many people are IRL(honestly it might even be the most common), but it just doesn't work in the real world. Some people RP to experience something new while others do it as an outlet.
Renegade Aeon is chaotic neutral, but depressing. I do like the story for Aeon, but it was soul-crushing, whether you were true or renegade.
What's the point in destroying the world? Being demon or devil seems to be worse Idea, because eternal power struggle dog eat dog hierarchy, being good guys seems like profitable option no matter how you see it, it's about long term situation, at least an upstart young God doesn't get murdered by their neighbor, with demons or devil however being such young contender of demon Lord title I am imagining a lot of dark deity out there wanted your head, not to mention good deity also want your blood.
Interesting that you disliked trickster because of its silliness but ranked azata at the top. Azata is super silly.
I play trickster right now and i must say its the most fun and wacky experience ever!!
hahahah true
I strongly disagree. Azata acts silly while taking action to make things better. Trickster makes things worse for everybody while playing with peoples lives. At times, trickster feels like the most evil path.
Did Angel for my first path and currently going Lich, gotta love yeeting + raising armies and companions (raising Staunton felt SO GOOD). Next up may be either true Aeon, Demon or Azata.
I finished the game as swarm. Its funny at first but quickly gets stale, you unlock swarm clones far too late and some encounters are really hard solo. There are also a lot of semi broken interactions.
Watching everyone of your videos gets me so hype to finally play this game when the commander's tent bug is fixed in 2025!
Hahaha! Ah yes, seeing a crpg release date is indeed x+4 years
For my first playthrough (just recently finished) I took the Trickster Path. I really enjoyed all the jokes and this lighhearted way in the middle of the demon invasion. These funny spells like the summon annoyed wizard, greasly bear or almost greater invisibility had me laughing a lot too.
Although the end didnt feel quite like... well, the end. It still was so lighthearted. It just seemed like it would go on and on. Nothing was really serious in the whole game.
So yeah, its a great path, but wouldnt advise it to use for the first playthrough like I did.
Thank you for the heads up.
I made deskari kill himself with trickster path
My favorite was actually as Swarm that walks, however it was NOT my first playthrough, so I already knew the story of the various characters. I liked how absolutely f'ed up you and the whole story became when playing as the Swarm, none of the others really compare here.
decrees and paperwork coming from devils REALLY makes sense flavor wise, same with aeon making quick saving/loading canon lol
Great breakdown, love the Azata. It's rare to find a path focused on beauty, freedom, and artistic expression in a good vs evil rpg. One minor note, and I don't mean to criticise, but there appears to be a weird sound glitch on opening and closing of this video. Opening second or so sounds like it was cut from somewhere else, and the wonderful closing line I always appreciate got cut off at
"have an-". Not sure if it's a youtube glitch or something else. Otherwise, as always, great to hear your take :)
Legend and Azata were actually the two paths i was considering for my first game. They both offered unique but very different role-playing concepts that i wanted to materialize for this campaign. In the end i wound up with Azata, because i wanted to emulate the Noldor lords of Silmarillion, the high elves of the blessed realm, the mightiest of which unlike most elves in today's fantasy stood toe to toe with Blarogs and one of them even wounded the first Dark Lord in a way that he limped till the end of time. Unyielding and unstoppable in their wrath, immovable in their determinance. Strong of body and mind, with songs that could turn memories and dreams into reality. To my great surprise and satisfaction, this path came very close to that concept, and so far i'm loving it!
I loved everything about lich path! it was so cool, the fact that you can actually build up undead armies and party is super cool.
I hated that you cant do romance (even tho i see how its a thing), but i hate being locked out of ending to a side story. I cant see myself doing another evil playtrough, but i really wanted to see how camilla romance turns out, i loved how twisted and weird it was, but i wasnt willing to let go of my undead powers and become legend. so i just quit the game for 6 months and now i come back thinking of what to do in my brand new playtrough xD
Just so people know if you take levels in an full arcane casting class (sorcerer, wizard, witch, or arcanist) and opt to merge your class spell book with the lich mythic spellbook, you’ll keep your lich spells even if you opt to go legend later. The same thing is true for gold dragon. If you do this then dropping lich doesn’t feel like that severe of a loss
@@bendavidson1210 i mostly meant for rp reasons ^^
My personal favorite is the Trickster, of course it doesnt make sense if you play a paladin but if you approach the story as a gnome illusionist it makes for a great story experience
Haha, I can't stomach playing evil characters. I tend to try to pick the choices that most resonate to me in games. I seem stray more towards neutral in the Pathfinder games though since the "moral" choices seem to be questionable or unfathomably dumb. I have only tried Azata at the moment, just purely due to the classes I am playing (Arcanist & Kineticist). I plan to try out the Aeon path next and then the Trickster. I might try out the Angel but Lawful good is meh.
Fuck LG dude, I played my Angel as purely NG and it was great
Angel is split into two sub paths. You have the lawful (good) angel of vengeance, and the neutral (good) angel of mercy. You should notice them by the two different alignment reactivities a lot of the angel mythic path choices offer you. (Lawful/Good)
I was an almost chaotic good angel and no one mentioned it. in fact most everyone gushed over me...daeran excluded.
Crusader subclass Cleric with Godclaw pantheon with lawful neutral and going for angel was the most fun I've had and your just such a beast in melee and spells its not even funny.
@@Geraduss I did a melee oracle angel that was such a blast I'm doing it again. That rod of mysticism you get in the drezen siege makes already silly spells absolutely ridiculous. So fun.
These are all really cool, hope to try at least half some day
"I have to be a lawful good person in real life" lmao I never thought of it like that
Well you CAN be other alignments, but you also need to invest in soap on a rope if you end up in prison lol And that's the closest thing you have to Hell besides an afterlife.
Demon was my favorite running around hell being a menace feared by literal incarnations of sin was amazing
Nice video as usual! I'm holding out till the dlcs drop. Any possibility that they add more mythic paths? I'm not aware of other mythic paths
The Trickster is my favorite, this path is very very funny
for me i did Swarm as first playthro and while i did enjoy it i had massive issues with not dying until i got the ability where you got immunities. pretty much anything that drains stats or stun/slow you will kill you until you get the second level of it or rank 9 mythic in this case but i had a lot of fun with it but i can also see why people would dislike it as it does remove a large portion of the content in terms of companion quests and such.
Edit: also i did lich until the Swarm and i found it very cool the way you could get some companions thro raising them as the dead but in general story wise it was a little weak.
Azata is pretty much "what if you were a Disney Princess tough enough to murder demons" and I just can't argue with that aesthetic and thoroughly enjoyed that as my first run.
As for Trickster, while I agree the character you end up being is goofy, the certain council you end up interacting with was genuinely interesting to me.
My first path is Angel and I love it due to the story!
Looking forward to finishing the others!
Not sure I got the ranking. First you said you aren't ranking them power wise and then you said that azata is number 1, because of how powerful it is.
He said he is ranking them based on how much he likes them, power can be a factor in that but not the only factor. I've finished Azata, deep in act 5 as Angel, and act 4 as Lich, and while merged angel is definitely strongest IMO I like Azata the most.
He literally didn't use the word "powerful", you've got the video in front of you for God's sake, at least quote him or something, don't make things up for convenience cause that way you sound more right
He said he liked the mechanics, the dragon companion and party feats are strong and overall the Mythic path was good, on top of the fact that there was this thing that is cute(Idk what he was talking about)
A translation of what you said is that he ranked Azata as No 1 because it makes the game easier, which is far from true
I Absolutely love my current Mythic path (Lich) because of its mechanics: it makes me feel powerful, despite the fact that it's not the most powerful
I hope my last sentence helps you understand the difference
@@jekytck Don't get this worked up for youtube comments, but to address some of your points:
What's the deal with using the word powerful? It isn't in quotes so why are you making it out like I've quoted him? I just used the word to describe what I felt like his review of the path was. If I quoted everything that would prove my point I would've wrote an essay instead of leaving a simple comment to show my critique.
I rewatched the video and he said that the path is "ridiculous", followed by "the dragon companion is insane" and that "the superpowers are ridiculous" while saying that he isn't a fan of it being chaotic good and the story is wack at times. Outside of him stating that the dragon is cute, there is no indication that he likes it narratively instead of mechanically and the intro of the video gave me the impression that the ranking will be the other way around.
Maybe I'm wrong, but don't make it out like it's impossible to interpret it the way I did, while trying to sound like a total smart ass.
@@user-ci5zp6yf5l First and foremost let me say this: you got worked up for a youtube comment but I want you to know that I appreciated it. You took the time to answer properly, and this is very important for me, thank you.
Second: The deal with the word "powerful" is in its definition and implication. More powerful = more easy, as consequence at least, in this case. "Ridiculous" frankly could mean anything and could just be referred in general, as a whole, to something amazing (for the experience itself or whatever you want). I can see why you thought what you thought, because I thought the same for a second but I gave Morti the benefit of the doubt and then I realized what he meant.
Third: I said to quote him if you wanted to say he was wrong(I know you didn't mean Exactly that), because, not only the devil is in the details, but also because it's way too convenient to make a point based on something inaccurate/wrong; you twist exactly the part that makes the reason to tip over to your side.
Fourth: Maybe *I'M wrong* but regardless: what you think that I'm trying to look like is your opinion and fair enough, but don't bullshit me with that, cause I'm not trying to sound like a "total smart ass". There would be no reason (that I know of) for that, especially given that you don't know me, and ... that's just my way of expressing myself, I have no idea on why that should be some sort of closing point, worthy of mention.
Fifth: I know I've been somewhat rude, I hope this did not cause any discomfort or anything like that, I just get a bit .. uh.. emotional when I see someone using these "tactics" (consciously or not) for the sake of being right. And I hope you don't take any offence in my attempt to accuse you of using "shameful tactics", that was just for the sake of giving an explanation, I'm no one important, hence such accusation should have no value for you, unless you agree with me.
Have a good day
For my first playthrough, I went with an arcane sorcerer with a scholar background, that went to the Worldwound for study (so kinda like Nenio). For this kind of character none of the mythic paths truly fit, IMO (unless they are so self obsessed to become a Lich). I went with Aeon, because my sorc was a follower of Nethys that emphasizes the balance of forces... but it quickly turned out, that Aeon isn't about finding the truth behind inner workings of the universe, but telling people "CONFESS YOUR SINS" and being hated by most of them, so I scrapped the game and went with a different character.
First time player here.
I chose Aeon path simply due to finding the angel path and the demon path too biased when it came to the Wardstone choice. I am not even quite sure what kept me on this path, but i absolutely love it. The powers are excellent for my Deliverer Elf, the changes you make are noticed and discussed by anyone, even some minor NPCs. The path of an Aeon is hard, as even when you want to do what is right or what is most beneficial, you are tasked with setting straight the chaos of the world, and even denying the existence of said chaos altogether!
You mention that all the paths have the potential to be strong if built at least somewhat correctly. I would be interested in a video exploring what classes or playstyles the different mythics naturally lend themselves to.
Lich: Any Arcane caster, makes for especially good gish (melee/caster);
Angel: Any Divine caster, makes for especially good gish;
Azata: Arcane Blaster abusing Chain Lightning+Zippy Magic to clean the board;
Aeon: Summoners, especially Inquisitor for some Bane stacking;
Demon: A weird one. Works surprisingly well with Kineticist. Other than that, just straight up melee murderer;
Trickster: Weird gimmicky builds. Especially good on crit fishers, can also build for infinite attacks in the endgame, or just get lvl 20 Wizard spellcasting for free;
Devil: Haven't tried it, sorry. Good Eldritch Archer, apparently?
Gold Dragon: Dragonshape gish. Gets 25 BAB automatically so you can go full caster, take some melee feats, and still hit things easily. Kind of an all rounder though, no strong points. Benefits from builds that need many stats due to the auto 18 on all your attributes. Most successful build I made with it was an Eldritch Scion;
Swarm That Walks: Will make any build stronger just by virtue of the insane buffs it gives. Haven't experimented with it yet though, so I can't say what's the most optimal;
Legend: The sky is the limit. You can make a 70 DC caster, or a 40 BAB murderbot or anything in between. A good approach is finding two level 20 builds that can synergise and just combine them. Note that it doesn't allow CL over 20, and BAB over 20 doesn't give additional attacks (but does give additional Power Attack damage). Possibly the strongest mythic path if you exploit its full potential.
Btw, while all the paths have the potential to be strong, they are not equal imo. Angel and Lich in particular feel a bit overpowered compared to the other base ones (and some advanced ones too).
I had every intention of making an Azata spellcaster on my first playthrough, however I had no idea how the magic system worked and I ended up abandoning that playthrough for a melee focused Reformed Fiend Angel instead
Even through it's the default option I really enjoyed the Angel playthrough, epically the with story aspect of playing as a reformed fiend
Me: Time for another playthrough. Maybe Angel, or Lich, or...
Also me: But no cookiemaniac Dragon bestie. Time to praíse Desna some more.
there is always time to praise desna, otherwise aruwifu stays sad, cant have her sad now, can we ?
Demon was my first playthrough. Never finished it, but plan to go back eventually. Very fun
Well, I am doing Azata for my first playthrough and Aeon for my 2nd. Looks like I chose wisely
>Doesn't like unserious giggly jokes
>Doesn't like goody characters
But Aivu is cute enough to make him pick the goody jokester path
"I have to be a Lawful Good person in real life, so I don't like to role-play as one". Love it. So true.
Going to be re playing this soon.
I just finished my 2nd playthrough, 1st was Azata & 2nd was Trickster. Really fun so far! Thinking I'd go Lich next round.
Not sure if others tried this but, I was playing through as my Paladin of Iomedae and the story felt very tailor made to play that and go from Angel to legend. Iomedae gives some really good ethical and logical reasoning as to why you should be the legend path which superbly fit with my Paladin of Iomedae I was playing.
I also named him Torm because... y'know...Iomedae and Torm are basically the same.
I'm playing as a Hellknight Signifier/ Witch and I chose to be an Aeon, I'll become a Devil in Chapter 5. Regill, Greybor, and Lann have great chemistry, and they suit my Lawful Hellknight playthrough very well.
Your list was almost the opposite of mine. For me, Lich, Trickster and Angel were the most enjoyable. Legend I would have placed at top if you could get it earlier. Same with Gold Dragon. They just come too late in the game for me to be invested in. But I do agree that Swarm That Walks is the worst. Losing all companions is insta NOPE territory for me.
I dub thee Sir Mimic, the best crusader I have ever seen.
I took a look at several paths before settling on angel as I felt it worked best for my character (Aasimar). However I do feel the Azata potentially has the best ending given what you can do to the worldwound.
For my Unfair Solo run I went with Trickster into Legend (it allows you to keep the Trickster perks, so a lot of big crits and level 9 spells as cantrips). It's insane what you can do with 40 levels. In the end I had 120 AC, 100 touch AC, 50 in all saves, 60 attack, 50+ ranks in all skills ... all this without any buff spell, so I went with Magic Nullification as my mythic ability, which makes you totally immune to magic. It was mostly full easy mode. You get all your power at the beginning of act 5, it had some great dialog optiions (like dealing with Areshkagal) and all parties (angels, demons, devils, azata, lich) support you and also Aivu joins your crusade.
I had a blast with my Lich path. Urgotha owrshiper Wizard/Cleric/Mystic Theurig. More crazy than evil for most of the game for my rp choices. Felt super natural (pun intended). Probably gonna do angel/dragon run next.
SPOILERS FOR GOLD DRAGON:
.
.
.
.
You don't actually have to be a goodie two-shoes. While it IS a bit underwhelming, you do have the option of becoming corrupted by Dahak. It doesn't change your Alignment, unfortunately, but it DOES give you a bunch of Evil Gold Dragon choices, which is fun.
I've found that the super late game paths come well...too late in the game. A path just beginning to show up by act 5 just is too late. I just finished a Swarm playthrough, and by the time it has all its juice, you are at game over, and what's worse it didn't feel all that more powerful. From a narrative side, these late game paths also have to be divergences of other paths you were already on, so its disruptive as well. I am really thinking the paths that take shape beginning in Act 3 are better for coming online that early in the game, which is a big deal. I haven't played all of them but so far my rankings as follows that I have played:
#1 Lich, mechanically the best choice for an arcane caster, and the chance to actually be a fully realized Lich in a game.
#2 Azata, powerful, narratively cool, AIVU OMG, and CG is my favorite alignment in table top, no downsides.
#3 Demon, strong powers, get to be evil, narratively intriguing (a demon leading the crusade).
#4 Angel, lends itself to divine casting and melee, really nothing for casters, and divine casting and melee are objectively weaker options than ranged or arcane casting. Goodie-goodie play is also a bit boring.
5# Swarm that walks, comes online way too late, requires very specific choices almost to the level of choices needed for apotheosis, and isn't mechanically so powerful that the payoff feels worth it. Lich and Azata both feel stronger, are less tedious, and come earlier in game. Disappointed.
Currently working on Gold Dragon and Aeon playthroughs. May try another for Devil if I am still have interest in the game after playing through it many times already.
GD is really good for demon if you want to go the redemption path
also pairs you thematically with arue wich is nice
I have to disagree. Swarm that walks is very powerful. I will admit, the first mythic level for Swarm is weak, but it is extremely powerful
the main utility of the swarm that walks path is that we have a descriptor to apply to certain people in the real world that captures their essence in a way other putdowns never could
@@alexsawicki1721 And if you're doing 'goodie goodie' play it's unlikely you'll have any issue with hurting your party, unlike the Lich, whose undead companion options aren't that great and you don't get the last one until basically the end of the game. So, doing damage to at least one party member is a legitimate concern for virtually the entire game.
I feel like a lot of these people haven't actually done these playthroughs and are simply looking at the wiki and making comparisons.
My only problem with Azata is Aivu having ''threatening presence'' and I can't figure out how to turn it off, so your entire party ends up chasing all the demons around the map because they can't save against the fear and all demons for some reason either have haste or at least 50 moment.
i really want to like azata since it has aivu but its just to hippy for me
It's definitely the most 'saturday morning cartoon' of all the paths.
'We're gonna save the world with music and friendship!' yeah and that demon's about to rip your head off buddy.
It also kinda sucks for martial characters, since martial specific superpowers are very dull.
Hmm, Azata is one of that paths I haven't tried yet, maybe I should try that next time? Any suggestions for a good class to go with Azata?
Just finished a demon kineticist playthrough, which was really powerful (but unlike Mortismal, I get uncomfortable when I try to be evil in games, lol :P ), and now I'm playing an angelic oracle with focus on glaive and cleave.
Demon was my first choice. Loved the storyline of it. My next playthrough will have to be Lich.
I went with Angel because it fit with the character I'm playing: a Palladin of iomedae. Imagine my suprise when one of the very first companions that you get is... a palladin of iomedea... great.
I made her a bard from lvl 2.
Now hire 4 more as mercs
I love that I watch two different WotR youtubers and you both have completely opposite views on what is good and what is bad and you're both correct. The only thing you two agree on is that Demon is one of the best mythic paths in the game.
3:11 "I have to be a lawful good person in real life" - Shit I've been playing real life wrong.
Swarm is life xD. I am the swarm(bonus to those who get the line ;D). I did angel first though and it's pretty broken with casters like Oracle with alot or spell slots with abundant casting myrhic.
Also swarm that walks gets it's own story line, separate from the regular story so you dont actually miss out, you just get a different ending
I loved lich so much that I may even consider finishing the game with the same path second time.
could you do more ranked things about this game, im thinking of picking it up again
Well then, I was considering Swarm for my first playthrough, not anymore as I don't want to lock myself out of content. Playthrough 2 I guess. Gold dragon may be it as I find myself having a really difficult time choosing any dialogue option that isn't goodie tooshoes. Appreciate the content!
Only thing you really get locked out of is finishing some companion stuff and some side stuff. Wouldn’t recommend for a first play through but it’s not as big a deal as this vid makes it seem. You’re late in the game when you get to choose this as your path after you do the steps to unlock as well so there isn’t a whole lot to miss. Last chapter in this game is pretty empty
I love being a dragon, but storywise i felt like the gold dragon was rather lacking (wich is propably more due to the fact that you dont really get to be one for long. Hope the DLC expands upon that nicely.)
I just wish you had a choice of the dragon you could be, I personally don't vibe with gold dragons, I'm more of a Silver dragon type.
@@Geraduss afaik you can be a black dragon too, right?
@@Geraduss though i agree, a choice between every color woulda been awesome
@@edwardoliveira1748 Well Pathfinder came from D&D and in that lore you have the metallic and chromatic dragons and only the metallic are good, and a black dragon is chromatic aka evil. And that path is clearly made for a good character, and to accommodate evil ones well it would have to be even more complex.
@@Geraduss ua-cam.com/video/3uWdkx4DpDA/v-deo.html might be a way around itXD
I’m still running my first play through rn and am planning on going Legend. I’m still trying to fully grasp all the mechanics but I like leaning chaotic good and I wanted to be a very crazy dragon fighter so I wanted to get the dragon disciple, so I’m currently getting to level ten in that and had went down rage-fighter(probably wrong term can’t recall) with brass dragon bloodline. This is my first time ever playing Pathfinder in any form(or any type of this game) so not going so well in optimization but if need be I’ll lower difficulty for my first play through. Definitely going for the time one next, I just naturally lean chaotic neutral-good so wanted to hold out for a lawful play through.
My first playthrough was Swarm because I initially thought the concept was interesting. But it LITERALLY just wound up being the “I hate everyone” school shooter path, and that’s really not an exaggeration. Aeon was absolutely amazing, and Devil is alright. I think you’ve convinced me to try out Azata though.
It's like playing Tyranids in Warhammer: there are no allies, only food.
Azata seemed like a fun path and boy I don't regret reseting my character wizard class to sorcerer just to pick the 2 bloodlines heritage and stack the blue and bronze dragon lines for the massive boost in lightning damage. Those Zippy magic chain lighting obliterated every encounter in the game.
Glad to see the love for Azata. I'm doing my first playthrough right now and I just got it. Aivu is already great as an extra body in combat and summoning a mastodon is incredibly satisfying.
I love you channel and commentary on games. I'm a Lawful/good Slayer/deliverer. Which path is recommended for that build. Oh and I use bows
How much of the awesome Aeon story stuff do you miss if you pursue devil? Is there a lot in act 5?
I bounced off Azata, hard. Every little silly thing is annoying to me about the path. Says more about my personality than the game, though.
I know a lot of people love the mythic path for various reasons, but the entire concept makes me want to gag. Maybe it's because I'm a hellknight & lawful evil fanboy.
Azata is far and away my favorite mythic path. Not only are the abilities and powers (including Aivu) just stupid good, I actually really enjoy the storyline of Azata, even if it can be silly at times. Call me a softie but I just love the idea of standing for freedom, art, and resemption. Oh, and the Arueshalae romance with Azata is just **chef's kiss** perfection
Trying to make a good min-max build for my legend char was time consuming to say the least.
But its very much rewarding, when demons laughs and at me and calls me a mere mortal, then explode whenever i charge them.
What's the best mythic path for the new Assasin? It's my first playthrough I'm currently a demon slayer but I plan to prestiege as an assassin. What is the best mythic path? I thought about doing the demon mythic path but idk if I'll fight any demons on that path
How about a guide for the secret ending?
One video I would really appreciate is a brief overview of each mythic path from a mechanical standpoint. A lot of videos/guides I have seen will tell me how to unlock them or a little about the fantasy (Azata = kicking but with the power of friendship Aeon = I AM THE LAW!) but none of them really tell me what advantages I get from a gameplay perspective or what classes each path synergises well with.
Yeah. Azata is really powerful. I build all my party members around teamwork feats, and maxing out crits. So one person on the map gets a crit and you just get chain attacks and dumpster a guy for like 300 damage.
Aivu, alone, makes Azata worth it.
But then, as if it couldn't possibly get better, the reformed succubus falls in love with you.
I call that an absolute win.
The legend is hilarious because all demons literally lose their shit when they are defeated by an ordinary mortal. Just imagine you're an immortal entity from the depths of abyss, literally a monster from nightmares, and you get your knees broken by some random dude with a kukri
good choice have a two cookies so you can share it with our big and cuddly dragon
The random comments from Aivu are so awesome. Loving Azata
Cultist: "Why did you kill our bretheren?"
Me: "Aivu tell him why we killed his brerthren."
Aivu: "They stole our sweeties!"
Great videos, Mortym! Personally: Angel takes the cake as the top for me. Yeah, I'm good guy in real life, but I actually LOVE the idea of being a hardcore hero in a fantasy setting where the Undead, Demons, and the enemies of the living should fear the wrath of my god! Paladins have always been my favorite class, so WoTR has quickly become one of my favorite RPG's to live that out. As you might expect, Demon, Devil, and Lich are at the bottom; I think it's fun sometimes because you can be evil and it's just a game, but as fan of classic fiction (as well as a bit of a romantic), being the bad guy doesn't bring quite as much satisfaction as being Superman. It definitely has its moments, though!!! I haven't had the chance to try out Aeon, Azata, or Trickster... they'll have to be in future playthroughs, but on paper, I'm very curious about all three, especially Azata now that I saw this video. I've wanted to do a Ranger Demonslayer who's more of a free spirit than my Paladin, and Azata sounds AMAZING. Gold Dragon and Legend I have no way to place yet. GD sounds kind of cool, but I can't quite think what kind of character to roll to go with that, and Legend sounds a little generic. Anyway, great list! This game really is amazing in its flexibility... the character classes, choices, and mythic paths really open up so many different combinations, it's becoming hard to put down!
Hi Mortim and fans, question...which would you suggest i take next...right now i play through aeon into devil path(bloodrager build)...which would you suggest i take next
