- Lets take a look at HUGE and BIG Hair in just 90 seconds to give you a nostalgia filled rush of HUGE CRAZY 80s Hair!!
Styles in the 80s were bright and big. The 80s hairstyles were no exception. Big, bigger, and biggest, the more hair, the better.
Having Huge BIG Hair was the coolest, and whether it was a Prom, going to the Mall, or hanging out with your friends on the corded phone.. Big Hair RULED!!
Whether you used Aqua Net, Dep, or Alberto VO5, your hair wasn’t ready for prime time until it reached all the way to the heavens and straight out past your shoulders. Permed, crimped, and/or teased to almost unbelievable heights, 80s hair was a veritable thing of beauty.
Perms, teased hair, and crimped hair were in. Even the guys heads were full of it, whether they wore a mullet or had a perm themselves.
Yep, the 80s might be known for a lot of things--synth-pop music, neon clothes, Bartles and Jaymes wine coolers, cheesy sitcoms--but we’ll always remember it best for the one thing that united us and defined us. BIG Hair.
After a decade of long-haired hippies who didn’t care what the mop on top of their head looked like, we suppose it was bound to happen. And not only did we kids of the 80s decide to actually wash our hair and style it a little, we did a complete 180 and then took it to a whole new altitude. Perhaps more than anything else, the 80s were known for big hair. And by big hair, we mean BIG hair.
Like, huge.
But maybe the best thing about the big hair that defined our favorite decade? The fact that it united pretty much everyone. Girls, boys, goth, prep, black, white, trailer trash, and richies…everyone, it seemed, did everything they could to make their hair be their biggest statement.
Of course it wasn’t just limited to us common folk, pop culture was inundated with big hair, too. From all-dude hair bands like Poison, Ratt, and Whitesnake, to all-dudette hair bands like The Bangles, they all got in on the action. And we’d be remiss if we didn’t mention one of the most big-hair-est videos of the 80s…Whitney Houston’s “I Wanna Dance With Somebody.

The best hairstyles ever. Oh how I do miss the 80's. Without a doubt the best years of my 47 years in life.
My favorite time was around 84-85. Just loved all the stuff going on during that time.
Retro Crunch My friend and I were just talking about that very thing last night and we both came to the conclusion that 85 was our most favorite year as well.
I'm 45 and have recently grown my hair long again as I'm sick and tired of the boring neo-fascist short back and sides haircuts going around nowadays!
DUDE!! Did you not watch my GiveAway Video?? ua-cam.com/video/EJUPZwBB0fc/v-deo.html
That's awesome. 😊 I'm 23 years old girl and I love long haired guys.
yo in almost 18 and like you i have long hair in the top but slided back, but on the sides its shorter becuz before iwas cutting them,i try to slide them back too , i was one of the first in my class 4 years ago to bring.the undercuts ,its been 8 months thar i didnt cut them, im wating them to grow more so i can do the full slide back and thousnads of hairstyles :Dim tired like you of that generic hairstyle, beforr it was cool, when few would get that, and when my parents talk abour cutting my hair i get annoyed xd.Cheers
@@gabbo1109 yo had it cut since then was hard to manage 🤣👍🏼
PERIOD
Here in finland, there were some groups in specific areas in the 80s that used to take karate lessons to beat up men with long hair and burn their hair. It apparently changed when bands like Hanoi Rocks got popular but having long hair is still very taboo and "cringe" here, guys with long hair are always made fun of. And then there's me, rocking the 80s glam rock haircut xD
That’s messed up, preferring long hair I believe is hereditary, I’ve had long hair most my life in 30
I love 80s crazy hair.
Lol...still remember how I used to tell the hairdresser how to cut my hair..cut it 2 inches length to about the middle of the top of my head section, with straight across bangs, and long layers throughout the rest of my hair. After
Mousse, dippity do was applied and then every inch was blow dried curled with curling iron, then slightly brushed out and using a comb to tease and rat out the hair followed up with tons of hairspray. Sometimes I'd use glitter hairspray to have it finished off!
Oh thank you for this comment! I'm 22 and realized that these haircuts look amazing, just as 80's/90's people wore. But seems to be forgotten techniques how people made it. Can I ask if you remember how people with natural curly hair styles their hair? Were the cuts also variations of mullet hair? Brushing and finishing was done in a different way? I would be glad to know these details about those times that I didn't live.
I love 80's hairstyles. I'm a 15 year old guy, born in the wrong generation. I have long hair, I love Metal and Rock, Muscle Cars, and old Horror movies. I wish I was Generation X instead of Z. Missed it by a few decades. Anyone else with me?
same here my guy. we re born in the wrong generation

What I would do to live back then
ngl the first two yearbook pictures followed by slash got me confused
Why tho? Why so big? Like long hair always looked cool but let's literally make our hair looked like we got electrocuted
Taylor Herzog Well flat irons didn’t exist first of all and it was a reaction against the hippy looks of the 60s/early 70s. Second the big hair of the 80s evolved from the Farrah wave of the mid to late 70s. Also influences from punk rock and glam metal helped to popularize big teased sprayed to death styles.
@@hadihatab3126 flat irons have nothing to do with it. You can just come your hair and it will look way less crazy
Taylor Herzog again, people were following the trend of what was big in pop culture at the time.
It was that flat irons didn’t exist. But rather that home perms and hair gel (Dippity Do) did.
Blame Bold Hold, AquaNet and Studio Line
Van Halen.
