Here is a quick and easy way to clean your Resin 3D Printer vat when you have a failed 3D Print.
If your printer doesnt have this tank clean feature you can always create a flat rectangle file that is the same size as your screen and run that (without the build plate on)

Wow 1 million views 🤯🤯 thanks for watching and make sure to subscribe to make my day 😬🤘
What 3d printer do you use where can I buy it how much did it cost?
But... HOW do they always mess up? I see videos ALLLLL the time about how unreliable 3D printing is and it puts me off wanting to get one... Well at LEAST until THEY IDIOTPROOF IT! 😜 haha 🤣 Anyone know of one that’s not too expensive and not too overly complicated to start learning on...? Am I REALLY asking a LOT...? 🤷♀️😜🤣
@@dannytonnessen6896 Elegoo Mars is an awesome resin 3D Printer to start with. Prints amazing. About $200 or less.
Great Videos!
Try 3.5 million
the tank clean it’s a huge improvement for Resin Printers 🤘😎
Time saver thats for sure
This is the second time I’ve seen you in a comment section love the videos btw
Oh hello there
@@UncleJessy i would have saved like 40€ on broken FEPs if i knew this
What resin use ? Nice color
Oh, that was a feature I was not aware of! Thank you for the tip!
Really great time saver!
Did that last week for fun and now my gf is keeping the sheet of resin for some crafting idea she has. So it can be useful in many ways.

These things should come with manuals!
Prior to using the tank clean feature, place an old taller support (from a previous print) in the corner of the tank to assist in pulling up the tank cleaned resin sheet. Shouldn't need a spatula to pry.
That's a great idea
That is just brilliant!!!
So that's what I'm supposed to do with all the support waste. Handy tip. Thank you.
the one time i tried the tank clean i had to go a bit hard with the spatula, this would have helped quite a bit, thanks!
I will get supports I cleaned of a print from the garbage right now. :D
In a blink of an eye my life just became way easyer. THANK YOU !
Super simple. All about that
Another tip for the tank clean feature: place a piece of support in the corner before running tank clean. Grab that support after running to peel up the corner! Voila!
if you dont have a tank clean function keep a large print that encompasses the whole display on the usb. print it after removing the build plate.
I'll try that. Ty
And where do we get a print that specific?
@@jhorn64 I have a Photon Mono and on this model you can go to tools and then press on the option detection where you then pick the fullscreen option.
(no file needed)
@@roccobernasconi9690 Yeah I was thinking the same thing, just need to cure a little bit using the test exposure function.
That "failed" print looked really cool tbh
Thanks for the tip! Great feature, Elegoo. I had no idea.
Omg this is genius! No more scraping and mesing up the film to get failed prints off!
Yeah it works great!
So clever, definitely using this for failed prints going forward!
Yeah it’s such a great easy way. If the printer doesn’t have that as an option just create a rectangle file and print that without the build plate. Will do the same thing.
How long of exposure should I use? mono X doesn't have that feature, but you can expose all screen
@@UncleJessy Wont that cure all the resin in the vat? Don't you want to just pull out the bad stuff? or are you siphoning some of it off first? or does that really just cure the bottom layer only?
@@learnilluminatedrealitystu5571 Just the bottom layer, the UV light does not penetrate the resin well, as the resin absorbs the UV.
@@Kastnerd so do you then after exposing filter the tank then strip that bottom layer off at the end?
Why is that NOT in the manual anywhere!? As a newcomer to 3D printing (starting on resin printing), I had no idea this was a thing and didn't even notice it during setup and test as I was concentrating on doing the things right, not exploring stuff the manual doesn't even mention.
You have given me a lot of really good tips in recent weeks, Unc, and for that I thank you immensely.
On anycubic printers you dont have that option xp but you can use the exposure menu to achieve the same goal 🙂 in fact it's the method i use to clean the vat xp
How long?
@@eracia64 35 to 40sec on original photon , and 15 to 20sec on monochrome printers
I thought that *was* the tank cleaning feature on Anycubic printers.
now exist, i bought a x6ks one week ago and notice it ❤
Thank you! I just tried this on my Longer 10 by printing the first layer of a block and using a support piece to stick to in and it way so easy to remove. No more constantly pouring resin back and forth.
Thank you for this !! I literally just got my Saturn a few days ago. Keep up the good work mate 👍
Congrats man!
@@UncleJessy thank you! Btw have you done any reviews or testing for the nylon resin? I was wanting to make fictional parts too not sure if it’s worth the 70 doll hairs
You are a lucky one. I have waited so long for one ☝️ to buy. So I went a head an bought the Anycubic mono x. Tried of wanting
@@TheDronzDr yeah I got one for 700 off eBay from “the supreme suppliers” I waited about a month to get it though.. but going from the original Mars to the Saturn is amazing 🤩
@@connorgunion8597
I bet it is
Honestly looks like a work of art
Put a bit of old support in the corner to help pull the sheet out.
Oh man love that idea!
Definitely was a life changer once I found the tank clean 🙏
"It looks like it exploded"
my creative ass: INTO A BEAUTY! I COULD USE THAT FOR AN ACTION TOY SCENE!!
Great tip! I like to use an old support instead of just grabbing it. Stick that old support with a bottom layer into the FEP, clean the tank, and you've got a clean release.
I'm not even kidding when I say that I'd spend money to buy that failed print
What makes these printers soo good is how accurate they can make projects unlike 3d printers that uses plastic
@Izaak Quijano oh thanks
That failed print looks surprisingly good
I've never had any experience with 3d printing but I must say that failed print that you took off initially would incredible painted up as some sort of scenery piece.
Anyone else not even know these things exist? Kinda obsessed now lol
Lysenko
Thank you Joseph stalin
Thank you Stalin for doing for Russia in 5 years what the US struggled to do in a hundred, and thank you for maintaining the greatest proletarian revolution for as long as you could.
thanks for this. I saw the feature but didn't know it was this easy to use it, and that I could use it to clean my vat without having to drain it. much like.
I would still want that as a decoration lol
It's 2021 and Jessy is out here printing with antifreeze. Damn the future is crazy.....
I thought this trick was common knowledge to be honest.
Might be but I’m sure there are lots that don’t know about it still
Been common knowledge since early photon days (full screen stl no build plate) but many people don't join fb groups or forums and even few read the faqs. If I had a penny every time people got peel force vs suction wrong I'd be eye deep in resin.
That print actually looks cool idk anything about whats going on but it looks dope
Great idea! Although, how much resin do you lose? Probably more than draining the vat? Guess it's just the time you save.
100% time savings vs the small amount you lose from the cleaning
Not gona lie,ur art looks cool
"Failed Print"
There are no failures, only happy little accidents
Srsly tho, that thing looks sick
Woah! I have been so afraid to accidentally push tank clean while there was a vat full of resin.. My whole resin life has been changed for the better!!! I'm so going to try this later
How to clean your mess !!!
Step 1 : have a Auto cleaning feature
Yeah wtf i just watched a video of a guy showing how to go to menu->auto clean
It could be worse, some UA-camrs would have made this a 10 minute video.
Resin 3d printer?!? That is so cool!!!
"and now the tank is clean" proceeds to drip excess back in
that explosion looks so cool omg
You know....I originally thought about doing this one time.....and told myself, "nah bad idea." Welp, jokes on me I guess lol
It works surprisingly well and uses only a small amount of resin. Nice time saver vs filtering out the entire vat
@@UncleJessy noted! Thank you for sharing your knowledge to the 3D printing community!
thanks great vid thought id test mine this morn but had no info i could find on how it worked. i was waiting for the build plate to lower and scratchin my head then found this and it worked a treat thanks
That actually looks pretty cool
Failed? Its art!
This plus the tip to put an old piece of support material at the corner to make it easier to pry up is super convenient.
Good tip I'll try that next time! Took me about 20 mins had to empty tank in the end just so I could get one edge up!
Tank clean is awesome. You could also hold a bit of old supports/chip brush in one of the corners of the vat while it does it thing. Then just pull up. That way you don't need to get in there to lift the corner. And your gloves stay clean.
Ngl, even though that's a failed print, that design looked pretty sick
Nice.
My Anycubic Photon S doesn’t have tank clean, but it does have test mode. You can select the size of the screen you want to expose as well as the time for the exposure. I will be trying this the next time I have a failed print.
This is sooooo important! Thanks for sharing
That “explosion” would make for a cool desk accessory
Gives off a “radioactive” vibe
Even though it is a failed print I think it looks amazing. I looks like something out a fantasy novel, like and elven structure.
LOVE THE RED SITH TROOPER IN THE BACK!
I've seen a modified version of this in other shorts, possibly from this very channel. before starting the process, put a chunk of scrap, an already extracted fragment of the failed print, or a throw-away piece of support into the tank before turning on the UV lights in the bottom, just so long as it's sticking up and out of the still liquid resin. This is so you've got a built-in handle on the film this cleaning cycle will generate and you won't need to track down a scraper as plan-A for removing the secured debris from the tank. I'd still keep the scraper as an excellent and convenient plan-B, but the fewer tools needed for a job, the better.
I love your channel! thanks for another great tip
I recently saw that option and didn’t know what it did. Thanks for this!
The stuff hanging lowkey looks cool
Still looks pretty neat
I wish Elegoo had mentioned this function in the manual. I saw it in the menu but had to go searching for what it actually did.
The explosion looked cool
The “failed” 3D print actually looks pretty cool
Love it !! Stumbled across this when I was trying to use up the last of some poor resin .. just kept running the tank clean 👌 I needed to up the default 90 seconds to 120 and run it 3 times to get a sliver like the one you pulled out though 😀
Oh good to know!
That works well for translucide resin, I wouldn't risk it with opaque resin. You won't be able to tell if some debris got losse when removing the cured resin from the vat.
I am going to try it on my Mighty that apparently has a similar feature. Got grey resin but I have not touched it in a few days so any pieces should have sank to the bottom is my hope and why I am testing it.
Works pretty well for any resin but I still drain and filter the vat for good measure afterwards
Put an old support leg into the resin before pushing "clean tank", it will stick to the hardened resin and it can be pulled out without getting sticky fingers
Love that green!
The print is a masterpiece not a failed print
Yeah, it perfectly looked like a perfect destroyed building wich I really like.
Love that feature!
I've had some success placing things into the vat prior to the cleaning step so they would act as a handle to pull it out of the vat = no spatula.
I don't know I thought that was a beautiful piece of sculpture!!
That looked like a cool piece of art, would work like decoration or something
I just set the exposure test on my mono x's to 10 seconds and do the same think. Cool they just have a option for the same function
Does it stick to the FEP?
@@stinkyham9050 peels rights up. Usually use an old support to peel it up
@@rockguy9022 Really? I have to try it. Now I can't wait to have a failed print!
That is awesome!!! I just got me and ANYCUBIC PHOTON MONO X and since day one I am having fail print. I went and look something like that in the menu. I could not find anything that said tank clean. What I did is that I went in to tools and then Exposure. Selected the square next to the exposure time. then selected exposure and enter 30 seconds and then next and that also did the trick in the PHOTON MONO X. I hope this help some body. Thank you for always giving tips and tricks.
That failed print actually looked really cool
Thank you for this, I just had to change my fep film for the first time because of failed prints, I don't want to have to do that again for awhile lol.
Awesome my Saturn is on the way now TY for the info
Heck yeah! Yer gonna love it!
Man love that neon green
looked kinda cool ngl like some modern art
You know I liked how that looked you should try to sell the failed ones I definitely would have bought that one
A way to recycle failed prints and print supports is if you like printing off miniatures or are in the hobby of miniature painting then you can cut them up and use them in your kitbashes, terrain and basing as supports make great beams and catwalks for factory's and the failed print can be a plethora of things depending on what you were trying to print
Dang the failled product is still really cool looking
Great idea. Thanks 🙏
great short video, just what we need
I wanna start 3d printing looks kinda cool
Idk what you were printing that for but the exploded version looks like it could be cool in some kind of role play
I watched this as a print was failing so future me was thankful
That failed one actually looks awesome
Thank you for this! I didn’t know I could do this with my Saturn 2
Wait the fail looks super cool actually!!!
Lol. I had no idea I could do this! Such a game changer.
That failed print actually looks really cool
I kinda like how the fair prints looks.
Failed prints could be used for buildings in video games/movies. And broken or destroyed weapons/armor. I think this could be used for really good projects
Ngl id want that failed print hanging somewhere, it looks pretty cool, like a corrupted cityscape hanging upside down
This looks like modern art damn
Use the supports to pull it out put some of the supports in the tank sticking up so you can pull it when it's done cleaning
If you have leftover supports you don't need to use the scraper on the FEP. Set the old support on a corner then use tank clean and use the old support to peel off the cured resin.
I like to put a failed stick of support in before I cure it gives you something to hold onto when you pull it :)
Ngl that failed print looks dope as hell
If you don't have this feature you can print a model same shape with build plate off so you don't have to make custom gcode
That thing might've been a fail, but I think it looked incredible
That failed thing looks like fine art tbh.
I love my Elegoo Saturn I wish I used it more
Nice! Lets hope the Photon Series also gets a Firmware upgrade with that Feature 😅
In the meantime i think i just could make a „print“ which covers the whole vat (without the buildplate installed of course)
Looks like a cool necron terrain piece
