One of the best written songs of all time. Gorgeous melody and to hear it acoustic sung by Ed is even more special. All the incredible things you can hear in his voice. Just leaves me with goosebumps all over.
This song means means so much to me. My mom died of Alzheimer's last December and I never thought I'd find a song that understands what it's like to have a family member you love so much fade away in front of your eyes. My mom was barely 52 and just to be little and almost understand whats going on. This is why I love Ed, he writes about what matters, his experiences and truly takes in the world.
This is prob my favorite track from the album. I can relate so much because my father passed away. Ed Sheeran's voice is so angelic and talented, what a gift.
The same happend with my grandpa! I feel this song so bad! My grandpa was like a father to me! I moved from Breda to Utrecht to care for him i saw the Alzheimer from begin to the end! 18 months ago i lost him and this song touched my heart wauw! Iam also sorry for your loss and wish you all the luck and happynis in your life knowing that your grandpa watch over you!
My uncle had brain cancer, and slowly lost his memory. Me, my mom(his sister), his wife. It was a terrible time. Once we walked in the room and he asked the nurse who we were, I was very young so I didn't really know what was going on, but I can clearly remember my mother leaving the hospital crying her heart out many times.
i lost my grandmom to alzheimer last summer, and hearing this song makes me cry, but also happy, because i know that she is in a better place now, that she is back with my grandpa and that she will always, not physicly but mentaly, be there for me. This song is a hymne for love! Thank you Ed for helping me and so many other handel the lost of a loved one. Music can really heal♥
***** my grandmother is at the point where she only recognizes me half the time. Horrible disease, but it puts things in perspective. Live life like theres no tomorrow, love hard, and have no regrets.
this is my favorite of all of his amazing songs. My grandmother also died of Alzheimer's and this song spoke directly to me. When I met Ed before a concert at Red Rocks years ago I asked him why he never played this song at his concerts and he smiled kindly and said gently... I don't know. I heart him and so does all of Colorado.
There are loads of really successful people out there who can produce a song, but he really creates the song, and the image of all of the emotions that he must have been going through, to write such deep, meaningful things. He is my absolute idol.
***** well something like that is kind of obvious. and even if it's not, why be so short and blunt about it? I mean, CLEARLY there are typos. Even if youdon't realize the keyboard was faulty, why be so troll-like because of it, especially when the person making the typos is not being a troll?
I wasn't really offended but I can see why people felt you were being nasty. Why even bother to correct the spelling when the typos were so clearly unintentional? The need to correct people usually ends up with you looking like a know-it-alldouche. I mean if the person is being a troll themselves then go ahead to piss them off. But when it's clearly just an honest mistake, why do you HAVE to correct them? That's all.
Things were all good yesterday And then the devil took your memory And if you fell to your death today I hope that heaven is your resting place I heard the doctors put your chest in pain But then that could have been the medicine And now you're lying in the bed again Either way I'll cry with the rest of them My father told me, son It's not his fault he doesn't know your face You're not the only one Although my grandma used to say He used to sing Darlin' hold me in your arms The way you did last night And we'll die inside For a little while here oh I could look into your eyes Until the sun comes up And we're wrapped in light and life and love Put your open lips on mine And slowly let them shut For they're designed to be together oh With your body next to mine Our hearts will beat as one And we set alight We're afire love Love, love Things were all good yesterday Then the devil took your breath away Now we're left here in the pain Black suit black tie standing in the rain And now my family is one again Stapled together with the strangers and a friend Came to my mind I should paint it with a pen Six years old I remember when My father told me, son It's not his fault he doesn't know your face You're not the only one Although my grandma used to say He used to sing Darlin' hold me in your arms The way you did last night And we'll die inside For a little while here oh I could look into your eyes Until the sun comes up And we're wrapped in light and life and love Put your open lips on mine And slowly let them shut For they're designed to be together oh With your body next to mine Our hearts will beat as one And we're set alight We're afire love Love, love See the love, the love, the love, the love [3x] My father and all of my family Rise from their seats to sing hallelujah And my mother and all of my family Rise from their seats to say hallelujah And my brother and all of my family Rise from their seats to sing hallelujah (To my brother and my sister, yeah, ah) My father and all of my family Rise from their seats to sing Hallelujah To the love, the love, the love, the love [3x]
This acoustic version brings a more intimate and raw vibe than how it is on the album. Some of you may say differently and that's fine. I like both versions. But this one brings more serenity to the listeners ears. That's why I love you Ed. Keep making music like that. ~ TJ ~
Wow. I've listened to this song countless of times before, but I am just now really listening to the lyrics. I can truly relate to Sheeran being both of us having a grandparent with Alzheimers. It's very hard too watch them go through that disease and also very hard trying to cope with it yourself.
"I can look into your eyes until the sun comes up, till we're wrapped in light, in life and love. Put your open lips on mine and slowly let them shut, for there designed to be together."
every time I hear this song I remember all the times with my grandma who had dementia. Ed will never see this but him and his music helps me hold onto all the memories I made with her and unlike most musicians today his music means something so much deeper
Only Ed Sheeran can make something so sad, seem so beautiful. Theres nothing nice about family members you love pass away! Ive been there and had both my Grandfathers pass away within 5 months of each other, and I cannot help but cry everytime I hear this song! Its just one way a person can give their emotion to the world and share their experiences!
Beautiful song, beautifully written about a terrible disease that sadly claimed Ed's grandfather's life. I too lost my grandfather to Alzheimer's and it is torment beyond anything imaginable for both the person suffering and the family. This song takes some of that sadness and pain and makes it tangible for those lucky enough to never have witnessed anyone who has suffered at the hands of it.
*Broke me down 😭💕* On repeat because the feels of my cry to this song is cathartic...a 'love afire' for one...the only one who's always had my heart...lost his precious ma'ma to Alzheimer's...we reunited after 20 years...I answered the call, he needed me, and I him...our hearts and souls weeped together...oh how bittersweet. Prayers for all those who lost loved ones to this horrid disease. 💔🙏🏾
This song should've been like this on the album. The original is great but without all the instruments, the voice and emotions flow right through and make it so much more emotional. And that's exactly how this song should be. This performance was fantastic, it's now one of my favourites on the album. Really wish hey recorded it like this.
I love this version but I just love the album version more bc of the background vocals, and the symphony of the ending of the song. The production in the album version gave me goosebumps.
They’re both different moods and I love them both, but the album versions procution is what makes this my favorite song of all time it’s sooooooo good. The end part with the symphony and the vocals bop
I always like to watch acoustic versions of singers to see raw talent, and in Ed's case there's an abundance of it. Well played Mr Sheeran, Well played indeed.
His gift of vocal projection is already amazing. That is why I began listening to more of his songs. Then I came across this song which I liked and knew he had some reason why. I Goggled to find out why and it made me love it even more. I haven't gone through anything like this but I can imagine his pain and it put this song at the top of my list as the best I've heard. It used to be Eric Clapton's Tears From Heaven but I hear the emotion in this one more than Eric's even though a lost of a child is worse. I'm basing my list from lyrics and not family loss.
He helped me so much these past months. Its the type of music that i can just openly cry to. Eds uttrly perfect in my mind. Hes himself. He sees the world with different eyes
Wow !! Who else are reading the emotional and meaningful comments while playing the video .. It makes me cry . Ed sheeran you are one of a kind who has great taste in music , keep making music like this ..
he is so good at singing, writing music, playing guitar, and soo much more. his voice is so beautiful and i can't get enough of this song. i love this album so much and i love his old album too he is my favorite artist because his voice is truly from heaven and it is a gift that i can enjoy and fall asleep to every day and night. truly amazing and i hope he truly never stopes making music because he is better than alot of people i have heard, his music has meaning, his music is beautiful, he is so talented, his songs have amazing lyrics, and his songs have meaning.
Who else cried when they first heard this? I didnt know what he was talking about the first time but i still cried, thats music. Now i know this is about his grandfather that had dementia/Alzheimers and died when he was young. Ed got me again, jeez beautiful, :'''''(
One of the most beautiful songs-melodies I've ever heard. Lyrically Makes me cry and realize how much I love my girlfriend and how special family really is. As do a lot of his songs He's a legend.
I've been through this situation with my grandpa (alzheimer) and he left us about a year ago. This song make me remind him. It also make me sad but at the same time give me peace. Things that only Ed Sheeran can make us feel.
Douglas Pereira I lost my grandpa 4 years ago too because of brain cancer and this song speaks so much to me too. Very sorry to hear about your loss! x
Its crazy how this song reflects to me. My grandfather had alzheimer too... Ed said "the docters put your chest in pain". My grandfather got lung cancer shortly before his death. I had so much support from this song. I can barely listen without crying but its amazing how a song can help you like that.
I cry every time i hear this song. My grandma died of alzheimers in 2012, and i was there to see it. God i miss her so much. She and my grandpa were together over 50 years.
In love with his voice , with his songs , such a poet ! God give him talent and now he is giving us pleasure , peaceful and everything that we want to hear !
stunning song my grandad passed away because of this disease i was 6 yrs old when my dad said them words to me its not his fault he dont recognize your face it was so upsetting then 20 yrs later the disease took away my grandma now they are both in heaven back to there old bickering ways RIP miss and love you both
Every time I listen to this song, I ball my eyes out. I miss you so much grandpa💔😢 I hope your watching over me smiling and proud of everything I’ve accomplished. Wish you were here to see it. Love you
I remember the first time I heard this song. My grandpa had just had a heart attack, and a close person to me died of cancer. I had a trip I had to go to, and his funeral was during it. It kinda td the story of the both of them.
Don't know how he can sing this without crying
I Must cry ...
well it was for his grandfather
It's called being ginger
+NaughtyOttsel486 lol
Becausse all his emotions are in the song ! Thats why we feel tears and he isn't
Ed didn't miss a note. He is honestly flawless. x

Xyo Bobbaz one little pitch
I don't really think that voice crack was a bad thing. He was just passionate at the moment I think.
It's a voice crack.
Xyo Bobbaz So what if it is? Does is make you like the song less? Stop talking and just listen....
He's voice is so great it's amazing. No one sounds like Ed sheeran.
Ed sheeran sounds like Ed sheeran.

One of the best written songs of all time. Gorgeous melody and to hear it acoustic sung by Ed is even more special. All the incredible things you can hear in his voice. Just leaves me with goosebumps all over.
This song hasn't been out that long and I'd have to put it up there in terms of sadness along with Tears in Heaven.
100 % agreed.
This song means means so much to me. My mom died of Alzheimer's last December and I never thought I'd find a song that understands what it's like to have a family member you love so much fade away in front of your eyes. Damn that’s too close to home. My grandmother died of Alzheimer’s in December of 2019 as well. She was 63.
I'm sorry for your loss all these years later.
This is prob my favorite track from the album. I can relate so much because my father passed away. Ed Sheeran's voice is so angelic and talented, what a gift.
I'm sorry for your loss, I'm sure he's looking down on you still
Thankyou and yeah i believe he is too

This man will always be one of the greatest singer/songwriters in the music I am truly lucky to born in the generation that can produce this music
This song reminds me of my father, whom I lost to cancer. Ed is so talented and I can't wait to see him next month, it will change my life.

Best line I've heard in a song for such a long time.

This is indescribably beautiful. Even more captivating than the studio version, in my opinion.
Seriously the best singer/songwriter out right now. Amazing voice and powerful lyrics. Dude can rap too. Crazy talented.
takes my breath away. God Loves You Ed Sheeran!
lost my gdad around the same time this came out..sums up love and loss perfectly...amazing songwriter....THANK YOU FOR MAKING MUSIC ED SHEERAN !!!!
We can clearly see his genuine passion in singing. This is my og fav song of him, everything's very calm yet sad. 💙
no man can out sing this kid in this generation. pure class
Donald COWBOY Cerrone li sorry but Sam smith is a far superior singer than Ed (no disrespect to ed he's an amazing artist)
This boy is the best thing that has happened to music since probably the 90's!!!
He has a stunning voice
Things were all good yesterday
And then the devil took your memory
And if you fell to your death today
I hope that heaven is your resting place
I heard the doctors put your chest in pain
But then that could have been the medicine
And now you're lying in the bed again
Either way I'll cry with the rest of them
My father told me, son
It's not his fault he doesn't know your face
You're not the only one
Although my grandma used to say
He used to sing
Darlin' hold me in your arms
The way you did last night
And we'll die inside
For a little while here oh
I could look into your eyes
Until the sun comes up
And we're wrapped in light and life and love
Put your open lips on mine
And slowly let them shut
For they're designed to be together oh
With your body next to mine
Our hearts will beat as one
And we set alight
We're afire love
Love, love
Things were all good yesterday
Then the devil took your breath away
Now we're left here in the pain
Black suit black tie standing in the rain
And now my family is one again
Stapled together with the strangers and a friend
Came to my mind I should paint it with a pen
Six years old I remember when
My father told me, son
It's not his fault he doesn't know your face
You're not the only one
Although my grandma used to say
He used to sing
Darlin' hold me in your arms
The way you did last night
And we'll die inside
For a little while here oh
I could look into your eyes
Until the sun comes up
And we're wrapped in light and life and love
Put your open lips on mine
And slowly let them shut
For they're designed to be together oh
With your body next to mine
Our hearts will beat as one
And we're set alight
We're afire love
Love, love
See the love, the love, the love, the love [3x]
My father and all of my family
Rise from their seats to sing hallelujah
And my mother and all of my family
Rise from their seats to say hallelujah
And my brother and all of my family
Rise from their seats to sing hallelujah
(To my brother and my sister, yeah, ah)
My father and all of my family
Rise from their seats to sing
Hallelujah
To the love, the love, the love, the love [3x]

I love this version but I just love the album version more bc of the background vocals, and the symphony of the ending of the song. The production in the album version gave me goosebumps.
The reason it sounds different than the other one is because he was emotional singing this.

Perfect pode ser linda, mas essa música é a mais linda que o Ed já escreveu, ainda mais pra quem ele escreveu ❤
this song makes me cry every time i listen to it
No matter how many times I listen to Ed it still blows my mind how amazingly beautiful his voice is.
This breaks my heart so much. Rip Grandpa Teddy 😭
He's name is Edward...
Ed's nickname is Teddy
Oh. My fault
Haha nah it's fine :)
I love how he doesn't need editing to sound great … it's really amazing !!
I remember the first time I heard this song. My grandpa had just had a heart attack, and a close person to me died of cancer. I had a trip I had to go to, and his funeral was during it. It kinda td the story of the both of them.
I absolutely love Ed. He is the best artist i have ever heard.
This song is still as beautiful as it used to be even after 5 years
8 years now...
My grandpa passed away two months after this song was released and it still hits me in the guts every time.
"things was all good yesterday, then the devil took your breath away"😭
