The black lacquer Dumont is exceptionally beautiful. It's so typical of Cartier to not offer one of their best Santos models as a regular edition. They are among the most frustrating brands in the watch game. So much potential wasted that they want to keep limited and special editions of any of their watches worth buying.
I got mine two weeks ago, they told me it is the last one in europe but not if its discontinued, so have you more infos about that? It is a great watch and I also wanted the rose gold one at first, but the black one felt more special with the laquer and manual wound movement

Nonetheless, it looks great. If it was a bit larger, I would definitely would have gotten it.

I think paying very large sums for a quartz movement watch albeit cased in gold is not the way. It's a relatively small and cheap watch but if you want quartz consider the tank solarbeat. I believe Cartier have designed it to run for sixteen years without service,

I have the Santos in steel with navy strap. Given that Cartier is a jewelry brand, I felt the quartz movement was acceptable even though I now prefer automatic movements. Your friend's watch is really beautiful.
Get the Dumont….you will be glad you did even though it is a quartz …no having to keep it in a watch winder…or constantly resetting it although there is no date! You decide.

Both Cartier’s are beautiful…I like them about the same aesthetically…so the automatic movement would break the tie…after what quartz did to the automatic industry…personally i would never spend real money on a quartz watch. Leave those for the ladies
