@timmyd3819 same thing. Not trying to be political, but really it's 2 sports that pay for all athletic scholarships. Men's football and basketball. Everything else academic or athletic is a gift from the universities.
Scholarships for med school are more difficult to get compared to undergrad scholarships. Med schools usually give scholarships to a few students per class. Full ride scholarships for med school are rare and they usually require the student to do a PhD along with an M.D. resulting in adding an extra 2-3 years of schooling. Won't let anyone else pay for her because she thinks that they'll judge her, thinks that she can't get scholarships because she's a white woman, wants to join the military and also do medical school at the same time, knows she spends more than she makes but feels like she can't change, ect. Yeah, there’s a difference between intelligence and wisdom. Intelligence is knowing that tomatoes are, in fact, a fruit. Wisdom is knowing not to put tomatoes in a fruit salad.
I remember working in the coffee house of a local hospital and staring in awe at the surgical residents try to figure out how to get out of a door that has signage that clearly stated it was closed and locked due to weather conditions (we occasionally have flash flooding). People are often intelligent in their field.... not generally overall.

And I would guarantee that that thieving, conniving father of hers probably was the one who told her that she's white so she would never get scholarships. He taught her to be a victim while he took advantage of her. And I don't think she even sees it
TO ANYONE CONSIDERING HPSP: What she said about the length of commitment is incorrect. It is not usually 4 years after Medical School - your timer starts once ALL training is completed (including residency). Do your research, don’t listen to recruiters, the timeline is vague on purpose.
Yessss!!! And the military gets to choose your speciality based on the needs of the military. So not only is it med school, residency, and 4 years after (might as well just go for the 20 year career at that point), but you don't even get to pick what you do.
My BIL went through this progam then served in the Navy. He got an education worth hundeds of thousands of dollars. Finished debt free and even managed to invest some of his stipend money. You go in as an O-3, but get medical specialty bonuses. He did a few years active duty, floating around the world on a huge ship, in a job with probably less risk than most cab drivers face, then transferred to a civilian hospital while still collecting Navy Reserve officer money. Not a bad deal!

As a parent of a young child, this is opening my eyes to ensure that my kid(s) will know how to handle finances when they get older. This girl sounds like she had the worst role models for dealing with money... no wonder shes in this position!!
@marks2997 a lot of people are clueless at that age. I only knew debt was bad and make enough money to live at that age. The younger the generation, the more hopeless they kinda become. Their lives are too sterile to really learn life.
This girl is perfect for a military program like that. She needs someone like uncle Sam to tell her how to live and what to do for a few years. Apparently her parents didn't help much in that respect. You can tell she is smart but not competent, focusing on a goal like medical school while the military gives her structure could change her life.
The military is notorious for giving people large amounts of money and allowing people to get into terrible financial situations. Theyll tell you what to do but dont baby sit your finances unless you have a kid.
@@supernova743 I totally agree, I'm sure anyone enlisted with a gigantic car loan can attest to that. I am assuming she will have to go through boot or something before that and also meet goals and requirements towards her degree. This kid needs structure! I am also assuming it would be some kind of OCS situation and not just an enlisted grunt situation if she would be working on a medical degree.
@@supernova743right. Hopefully, with Caleb’s guidance and her newfound freedom, she can figure out how to do things in the best possible way for her. I really hope that she can stop surviving and finally LIVE. I see the trauma behind her eyes. Holy moly.
I agree. I was ignorant to any finances and the military sends you through classes to get some basics on navigating banc, checks, loans, savings, and IRAs and such. But.... not everyone listens or understands.
My dad's best advice after saying "just choose any degree, it doesn't matter what" was to just "take out credit cards if you don't get a job as soon as you graduate" Luckily my mum is smart and hates credit cards unless they're used smartly I did just choose a degree (biology) and left 5 months later because I was worried it'd just lead to needing more school, and it felt very unfocused Now I've just started a nursing degree because at least that does give you a good chance at finding work after.
Sounds like a lot was because of her soccer scholarship. Med schools don’t offer sports scholarships. And she got such a low MCAT score that she got into only one med school.
Sounds like she got scholarship from sports. Which is completely different than receiving a scholarship based on your race/ethnicity and income level in correlation to your grades.
she's book smart, but not street smart, and not financially smart. But given her age, her parental background, and the California lifestyle; not surprised. I hope she listens to Caleb and gets back on track. and the father needs to be held legally responsible for the CC's.
She is still a victim of her parents even if she knew more than she let on in the beginning. I used to have a close friend whose parents took out so much credit in their children's names. There's a level of trauma that comes with that as you get older. They used her ignorance against her. There's no way her parents have zero idea of what they are doing to her in the long run.
Theyre just putting her in their same boat, and willingly. Sad how people use their kids like this. I'm sorry, no good parent uses their kid to cosign for fucking turf. Insanity.
Her dad 100% knew what a cosign was. He also knew she didn't know. She was too kind (probably to save her own sanity) he didn't know what a cosign was.
There are many worse things a father can do to his children but yea taking credit cards is messes up too. She will have trust issues with men that's for sure.
I am pretty sure that is identity theft and illegal. Caleb didn't really seem to address the problem. Ironic since the ad in the video is for identity theft. She could sue her father to clear some of the debt. Maybe he talk
My brother called to confirm his application went through for this one scholarship. The guy said "What's your last name again? I want to make sure I give it to you." It takes work but scholarships are not hard to find.
This! It’s sad that there is so much money willing to be given but not many people who need applying for it! I remember a few years back when I was in college the professors telling us to apply to XYZ scholarships because there were basically no applicants. Sometimes to even apply to “asian grants” or “hispanic scholarship XYZ” even if we weren’t a member of those groups cuz nobody was applying so they would just give it to whoever applied regardless of what race they were.
I applied for over 70 scholarships and didn’t get 1. I had 3.8205 GPA, participated in several clubs in school, sports, the whole thing. Went into $144k in debt for college, but paid all of it off during the pandemic. I’m happy for anyone that’s able to get a scholarship and not get into debt and happy for everyone that pays off their loans. Student loan debt is a pain for sure.
As someone in the same field as her, I’ll come to her defense (sort of). To earn a full ride scholarship, be an athlete, triple major with a close to 4.0 gpa, and being able to contribute any amount of research to be on a scientific paper all in four years of undergrad is no joke. She’s clearly willing and able to work hard and she can clearly pick up concepts that she is taught, it’s just so unfortunate how she hasn’t taken steps to educate herself about debt and has parents that failed her in this respect. So with the right education about money and separating her finances from her irresponsible parents, she’ll definitely be successful.
Her MCAT score, which she took repeatedly, says otherwise. Although, I suspect she didn't dedicate as much time to exam prep or study as she could/should have. She said she was only working 4 hours a day so she could study.
I have to say, academia has really failed those of us in the middle. I’m a non-traditional 28-year-old student pursuing a second career in nursing, and I don’t qualify for anything. Most scholarships are aimed at high school graduates, and apparently, I make too much money to qualify for financial aid - as if I have $30,000+ lying around to fund my education in this economy. It’s completely ridiculous and unfair.
SAME BOAT EXACTLY! I’m currently working two jobs 7 days a week trying to save/pay off debt. I’m also trying to save 35k for nursing school (also to take a year off for school) it’s difficult but once you are in school even for pre-Rec you can start applying. We got this, it will be worth the struggle for the stability.
I don't know where she got the Iowa fun fact. Our "largest crop yield" is corn by a large margin, followed by soy beans. We produce practically no potatoes whatsoever. Not that it's a big deal, but huh?

Having to sleep with a guy because he buys you a meal is insane. That’s like a form of prostitution. I’d sooner threaten to report them to the cops for that!

Her: I got a full ride scholarship for school Also her: Scholarships don’t work for me because I’m a middle class white woman. Huh??? Girl, please stop watching Fox News
She’s talking about the random chunk scholarships. It’s very hard to get them these days without having some kind of minority qualification. For full ride scholarship students, many try to apply for additional small chunk scholarships that are not mandatory to use for tuition or other school related fees (this gives them spending and living money which the full ride scholarship doesn’t)

Lol trying to pretend every school doesnt give black people financial scholarships with much lower sat scores is funny. No she isnt oppressed but you people certainly arent either.
it shouldn't bother you coming from a fellow black person. There will always be someone with more than you. Plenty of black and brown ones. Don't worry about anyone else or what they have.
Funny part is that her being a woman is far more likely to be granted a scholarship than a man. Her being white wouldn't factor in that much to the equation.
Coming from a vet, and one who worked at the medical center of excellence which is where she would do her schooling, military service may be a great option for her. It is actually a great way to pay off student loan debt and/or prevent further school debt. Also, she can reduce her prior-to-service interest rates for consumer debt to like 6% with the Service Member Civil Relief act once she's on active duty.
For anyone thinking about medical school, the military is a great way to fund it. I know two people who have stayed past the four year commitment. I also know someone who went to optometry school with the military.
There are also programs where you can go to underserved areas that need practicing doctors and the government will essentially forgive school debt if you live and practice there.

Omg wait why is she not working in biotech?!?! I work in biotech in the CA bay area, with her degrees she could definitely be making 60-70-80k as a starting position, the market is a little tough right now but damn, contracts are so popular right now so she could at least make good money while figuring out med school.
i thought the same!! she has great degrees, not in california but pretty much every other state she could be a med lab tech easy, im in nj they make upwards ($30/hr honestly probably more)
LITERALLY, she's definitely doing something wrong... I work in the central valley (originally from the bay) but our company had a testing contract with a pharmaceutical company recently for some equipment and they had been looking for biotech related degree's for hiring more recently... Something doesn't make sense here with her having all these degrees and no well paying job. She could even maybe be an engineering tech for a pharmaceutical or something?!?
I think it's a combo of 1) she didnt want to work a lot because she was studying for the MCAT, which she kept failing, and she says she needs hours working with patients in person. Her 4 hour a day CNA job gave her loads of time (to study and soend money) and one on one paitent experience. I don't think she studied as much as she should have, or she isn't as smart as everyone says she is, because that score was low and she took the test 3-4 times. My cousin in law's daughter spent the end of last year applying to PA schools. She was told her first year of college to go to medical school or PA school etc, she needed to show loads of hours spent working with patients in a medical field--there was a target amount to aim for. They suggested everyone wanting to go on to do something like PA take the time to get a CNA or something and start working a few hours a week to build that resume up. The cousin's daughter chose to become a phlebotomist and work 10-15 hours a week minimum in a lab for most of her undergrad. She got her hours and earned money so she could pay her way (somewhat). She got accepted for next fall.
Thing was she was lacking clinical experience ( most med school expect to see their students having some clin experience)and also multiple low retakes on the mcat is super bad. Any other job would've been monetarily good but terrible for her app.
Lock your credit and you aren’t a pet person should be added to the regular advice like you aren’t a credit card person. Even if you have to clean it up yourself as soon as she found out about the dad credit cards she should have called and closed them on his ass.
Fun fact scholarships can’t discriminate based on things like sex and race. Some one in my graduating class applied for hundreds of scholarships including those for like black or Latino students. She got some of the scholarships because almost no one applied. This was in 2015.
I get the sense she’s given up. Young, pretty, and 3 degrees in fields that aren’t bad. Ordinarily she would have no issues getting through a first round of interviews for a good job but she gives off Eeyore vibes.
She has 1 BS degree and completed 3 related majors for that degree. There was probably so much overlap that the credits for the second 2 majors filled in electives for the first major. She mahe had had 2 or 3 classes extra, but not many more than that to get out in 4 years. There's a huge difference in 3 BS degrees and 1 degree with 3 majors. Each BS degree is going to require something like 120 credits per degree. She did 3 majors inside of 120ish credits in 4 years for 1 degree. It's easy to do in related fields. If she had a doublei major in accounting and one in physics, or completed 2 actual degrees in two very different fields, that would take longer than the 4 years she was there--at least dping it at an in person school. A degree mill online could have a person roll out a BS degree or three much faster. They'd still have the 120 credit per degree requirement though.
@@MissMosierable look at how much you had to type to undermine it. I’m not saying she’s Tony Stark, just that it looks decent on your resume that you graduated in 4 years with 3 degrees and a 3.9 gpa. You can get better than a $20/hr job with that if you get your act together.
This child says shes not a good bet for scholarships but went through undergrad on a full athletic scholarship. Its true that scholarships for professional school are not as plentiful as for undergrad or grad school. But it also sounds like her MCAT scores were marginal and only one medical school even accepted her. And we don't know what her undergrad grades were. Someone with marginal MCAT scores and less than an A average in undergrad is going to have an uphill struggle to get into medical school.
Oh God I remember knowing someone in high school that said she couldn't get any scholarships because she was white..... Nevermind her bad grades and having to take the same class multiple times... 😊

“You’re not dumb, you’re going to medical school”…..oh boy do I have a surprise for you Caleb.
Yeah, there’s a difference between intelligence and wisdom. Intelligence is knowing that tomatoes are, in fact, a fruit. Wisdom is knowing not to put tomatoes in a fruit salad.
Lmaooo
I remember working in the coffee house of a local hospital and staring in awe at the surgical residents try to figure out how to get out of a door that has signage that clearly stated it was closed and locked due to weather conditions (we occasionally have flash flooding). People are often intelligent in their field.... not generally overall.

Are they changing the title because of the people on the show ask them to change it or because of some kind of backlash?

Apparently her parents didn't help much in that respect. You can tell she is smart but not competent, focusing on a goal like medical school while the military gives her structure could change her life.

Totally agree!
Her MCAT score, which she took repeatedly, says otherwise. Although, I suspect she didn't dedicate as much time to exam prep or study as she could/should have. She said she was only working 4 hours a day so she could study.
She is book smart but lacks common sense about money.
I'm only 20min in but I have to agree. Everything she accomplished in undergrad makes it clear she is a) book smart and b) able to work hard.
I think she has massive potential to be one of the best follow-ups ever in a year.

Coming from a vet, and one who worked at the medical center of excellence which is where she would do her schooling, military service may be a great option for her. It is actually a great way to pay off student loan debt and/or prevent further school debt. For anyone thinking about medical school, the military is a great way to fund it. I know two people who have stayed past the four year commitment. I also know someone who went to optometry school with the military.
There are also programs where you can go to underserved areas that need practicing doctors and the government will essentially forgive school debt if you live and practice there.

i thought the same!! she has great degrees, not in california but pretty much every other state she could be a med lab tech easy, im in nj they make upwards ($30/hr honestly probably more)
LITERALLY, she's definitely doing something wrong...
She can't live at home if she does that.

Someone with marginal MCAT scores and less than an A average in undergrad is going to have an uphill struggle to get into medical school.
But we do know what her undergrad grades were. She had a 3.94 GPA.
I lost it when she saves 20% on the McDonalds app
I do like that 20% off though
Woooo the earliest I’ve caught the new episode drop. I’ve earned this sweet treat
Same here, I saw it was uploaded like 12 minutes ago tho probably half an hour ago at this point 😮
Oh God I remember knowing someone in high school that said she couldn't get any scholarships because she was white..... Nevermind her bad grades and having to take the same class multiple times... 😊
Love following along - I am currently helping my sibling get through a bad debt situation. And while I knew personal finances, I didn't know how to convey the importance and how to to my sibling. Your method and "taquitos" yelling (even if you don't use it as much) has been motivating for him and fun for us to help him help himself get out of debt!
She’s going to find out you can’t get into the military with too much debt. Security liability. Cannot get clearance.
Wait... You don't like when people pay meals for you... So... You pay for them.🤔
I've never been here this early. But anyway, I was at my local grocery store and I saw a dead ringer for Caleb. Same hair, same build, same glasses. I was staring. 😂😂😂
She's going through her life being very passive. Then she will be able to blame everyone else but herself.
1:41 “Don’t get too conceited” I’m not even two minutes in and I’m already against her🤣
I am SO READY for this delicious Friday sweet treat drama. Ty Caleb :)
Since finding this channel I look forward to every Monday, Wednesday, Friday ☺️
College grad wishing to go to med school and cant do a simple budget? Society is screwed!
3 degrees - yet majors in “ain’t I cute” stupidity. So many guests - so many “victims”.
I was an older white woman student. There ARE scholarships and grants. You just have to do the research. Talk to your advisor and Financial Aid office. Some are small money, but you can get more than one.
Caleb tackling race on this lovely Friday morning lets go
15:10 "im going to the military "
Caleb "what?"
Same
Really makes me appreciate what my parents did for me growing up, too bad we, as kids, dont understand until we are older.
I appreciate having a fairly normal guest. Its a nice breath of fresh air
Girl, 3 hard degrees while being a D1 athlete is awesome! Pick a few personal finance books like "I Will Teach you to Be Rich" by Ramit Sethi. You can read it in a weekend and get smart about the basics. You have to take learning about money management into your own hands. I ignored this until my 30s and then kicked myself for not learning sooner. It's empowering. You're smart. You can do it. Get your financial fundamentals nailed down, then focus on med school! Tell your parents sorry, you need to manage your own future and can't be burdened by their financial problems. You got this!
