I Reimagined Metroid In 3D!

- I reimagined the original Metroid on the NES in 3D using Unreal Engine 4. I gave myself a 2-week deadline and tried to make a demo that plays out a mini Metroid gameplay loop.

10k subs?!?!! Thank you all so much, absolute legends! ♥
Rest assured I’m working every second of the day to improve and make more epic content for you all to enjoy!
Also, I’m seeing a lot of people wanting a download link.
Unfortunately, I won't be able to do that with this game since I don’t want to anger the Nintendo gods.
BUT, who knows what the future holds? I think something you might enjoy…just don't hold your breath waiting ;)
Again, thank you all so much. Your support genuinely means a lot, it’s giving me so much fuel I can barely sleep lol.
Algorithm blessed me, awesome video
How does this comment only has 1 like💀😭
Can I just come over and play with you ?
Hahaha
The boss fog is cool but you cant see the boss.
I can imagine how cool that would be triple A. Getting close to see him but its more dangerous. Too far away then only sounds and maybe glowing eyes to know where to shoot. That could be an amazing boss battle if done right.
Anyway. Good sh!t bruv
I've seen this concept already, but this is honestly the best execution of it I've seen, sure it does make the game easier since you have a separate movement axis to use for dodging, but you actually made the enemies move in more interesting ways than just a straight line. Honestly the whole thing is done really well, my only complaint about inaccuracy is that in metroid you can't jump in morphball form (at least without getting a powerup for it), but yeah it's just a nitpick.
Dread is the recent exception, and I think Fusion might have given Jump Ball along with Morph Ball as well (I literally just played it a couple days ago--so I _should_ remember but I don't), but you're absolutely right about the early 2D Metroid games.
I think in Zero Mission they took the first step in this direction by having Jump Ball come with the Varia Suit--but it definitely didn't come with the plain Morph Ball+Power Suit combo.
@@thechapterzee prime versions with wiimote allow you to jump too
@@pontoancora I'll freely admit to being mostly unfamiliar with Prime, aside from the beginning of 1 (first-person Metroid just isn't what I want). But thanks for filling in the gaps in my knowledge!
@@thechapterzee no problem.
@@thechapterzee in fusion you get spring ball with hi-jump same with zero mission, but with dread you get spring ball with the morph ball itself.
when codycan'teatthis did a poll months before this vid for what game to old 2d game to remake with voxels and pretty much nobody picked metroid i was sad.
i'm happy the algorithm sent me here and now i can finale see Metroid in 3d
Incredible for a first video. This channel has a TON of potential. Very well done
holy shit. You were the first video on my reccomends. It seems the gods at Google are smiling on you and for good reason! Look at what you have done! How in the world did you nail this so damn perfectly? LOOK AT IT!! THIS IS LEGIT METRRRROIIIIIIYEAH!!!!!! BRO! (flexes bicept!)
is it just me or this guy is a COMPLETE GENIUS?!?!?!?!?!
Man the UA-cam algorithm can sometimes be horrible but sometimes amazing in this case it’s amazing I loved the video great work can’t wait to see you at the top one day :ps please remember me when you’re famous can’t believe it’s the first time I asked that to any youtuber lmao
Pretty cool. However, I recommend in the future, instead of making an almost one to one copy into 3D try mixing it up a bit. Like at 8:16; Instead of making the player go back and forth over and over again, you have a 3rd direction you could've moved the platforms. This would give it a more unique feel while following the basic design of the room, kind of like the enemies.
3:50- LOL
That's awesome. I wonder if you can do the 8-Bit Metal Gears someday.
This is super cool, excellent job!
looks really really cool, has some potentional if you decide to actually finish it. I would say though that the rooms seem a bit too wide, it might benefit from being a bit tighter which means you don't have to clutter it with those basic enemies to make it somewhat of a challenge.
I dreamed of a megaman looking like this when the n64 came out
Yeah that’s gonna be a sub from me, thank you algorithm lol. Amazing work, I wanna play this so bad
Awesome.
I love Metroid.
I would easily play this
The algorithm sent me here, I hope your subscriber count blows up bro! I love this
Let’s gooo! Thanks bro, I’m gonna keep grinding haha
Yup; Same here!
@@Tazerboy_10 same
@@bobbyivar When are you gonna use this knowledge to make an actual game? I would love to see a game based off this!
same
really impressive first video. Looking forward to more!
Hi Kosmic!
Ayo!! Sup, Kosmic!
Only 123 likes and only 2 replies lemme me fix that
I'm in love with the "Literal 3D recreation of sprites" artstyle this has!!!
would love to see this in a original game tbh
There's a fair few voxel-based games out there, so I'm sure you can find something out there that scratches that itch.
Wait until you see the voxel mod for Doom. That and HD textures + modern controls (freelook + strafing) = game changer.
None of y'all ever played Minecraft I take it
@@TheGirugamesh1000 played since 1.6.4
Has a very different style to this
Not every voxel game is the same xd

VERY well done video! Obv has a lot of cues taken from creators like CodyCantEatThis and others, but I cant wait to see what you can pioneer as you progress! I did feel like the video was a tad rushed. Not in terms of editing (editing felt pretty polished), but the pacing of the video felt too fast. Seeing more of your thought and creative process to me is much more interesting than a full playthrough of the demo at the end. Great stuff tho, keep making cool stuff! 👍
I think the demo at the end its very interesting too, though.
For you it was fast but I can careless about creating the game I just wanted to see the demo.
I think it was just his narration and editing style that made it feel "fast".
@@FusionKush that's not as fun. I think most people want to see the process since it's usually the part that really shows how impressive something is
Definitely like codycanteathis good tho even know I don like this game
For a first video, this is outstanding. Looks really cool
ua-cam.com/video/VYwGazvxegk/v-deo.html
We got 2D Metroid in 3D before Metroid prime 4
This looks really promising! Few suggestions if you plan to continue with this project:
-I'd suggest altering the terrain a bit to work better in a 3-d space. To pull an example from the first room, the spawn platform might look better if the pillars seen in the side view were exclusively at the corners of the platform, with walls between made of a different material (if needed at all. Might look better with just the corner pillars). The cliff you must climb to get the morph ball also would be better I think if it reached all the way to the floor and had a small hole through the middle of the bottom row to crawl through. Finally, having rooms placed at different angles might help it feel more like a 3-d Labyrinth instead of just a row of rooms. While this might cause some inaccuracies, I feel it would better reflect the feel of the original game.
-due to the method of just copying the main row several times to fill up 3-d space, there are far too many enemies. If possible, I'd suggest not tying those to the multi-row function.
-you could probably get away with only having one zoomer AI. Just modify the second one to allow wall crawling, and It would probably look more organic that having them loop around in rigid rows.
-The sounds and music aren't all from Metroid. Is this because of copyright? If not, I'd change that.
-the glowing on Samus is cool, but I'd take it off of the arm cannon. It's made of metal, after all.
-You could add glowing eyes to the enemies as well, which would help them stand out a bit in the thick fog.
-The ambient light around Samus might look better if it was green, as it would look like the glow was coming from her suit lights.
-Since we'radding High-def flair to stuff, I think Samus should flash when she gits hurt instead of lowering opacity.
-One last gripe with Samus: She should explode upon death. This has been part of Metroid since day one.
-While I could not truly know without playing the game, that aiming looks like it would suck to control. I'd suggest either 1. Auto-aim ala Other M, or 2. tying the aim to a mouse-controlled crosshair like in a third-person shooter.
Forgive me if I come off as corrosive or if my suggestions would hinder your vision of the game, but these are just a few changes I'd make if I was developing it.
Idk if you have played megaman x7 but you need lots of enemies in these kind of games
Yeah I agree with all of this, specifically with the maze in 3d rather than a reproduction of 2d terrains
I think it'd also be a pretty good idea to add a small flashlight affect at the direction Samus is aiming at.
It'd help the player have a clearer idea of what they're aiming at, and it'd help offset how hard it is to see ahead of you because of the dark, while still keeping the creepiness of not being able to properly see the things outside of what you're aiming at.
Also, it'd probably look cool too.
Just wanted to mention, that the only reason I'm nitpicking like this, is because this is really impressive stuff, and you clearly went the extra mile to make it as polished as you could, so I thought it might be good to mention what little extra polishes I feel would bring it closer to perfection.
Of course he does not intend to continue with the game. The whole reason he made it was to create a video which would get lots of views. There is no point in continuing this project. Your suggestions are, unfortunately, useless.
@@cube2fox That's not true.
For one, he didn't recreate the ENTIRE game, so there's still an excuse to revisit this project to squeeze some more views out of it.
Second, even IF he has no intention to revisit this project, it's not like advice given here can't be applied to any future projects in order to make them even better than they would have been otherwise.
Third, Let's just say all advice rings hollow, and he has no intention of following any of it. As a creator, it'd still be only natural for him to be interested to see what people have to say about his creation. So that by itself already gives value to the advice.
You should do super Metroid next!
Holy shit THIS is your first video??? I can't believe it. I seriously thought this was an established channel, good work dude. I just subbed, I can't wait to see where your skills take you.
i thought the same^^ his work is insane^^
Might be his only video at this rate
@@veeshallkumballi2551 Not anymore :)
I think the same, bro, is insane, but incredible.
Great video! Explained it and edited the whole package together really well.
Glad you liked it!
"I made this and can't find it" literally every programmer lol
This is too cool to be left just as a short demo. The atmosphere and possibilities in level design.. this is the hands of some more dedicated fans could no doubt make a legendary remake, am2r proves that
This was sick! Incredible work! I just want a Metroid remake that's 3D now.
I want Super Metroid in 3D
Glad this popped up in my reccomended. Great video with good pacing and editing. I've sat through too many slow and boring game dev videos - so this was refreshing.
Have you seen Terraria in 3D? It's probably the best one yet.
This is the kind of game that would go around a decade back and people would genuinely believe it's a real project Nintendo is working on
This looks so good. It gives me a 2015 vibe, as I was playing A LOT of indie games around that time and so many of them had this Metroid vibe. Congratulations!
I get vibe vibes from this comment
This is so cool yet you have so few subscribers. Best of luck on your growth. I'd love to see this done with Zelda 1 and A Link to the Past, Super Metroid, and Mario 3
Thank you so much! Those are awesome game remake ideas I’m writing those down rn haha Mario 3 is one of my favourites
zelda 1 in 3d is already made by codycanteatthis
a zelda 1 remake in this style already exists, the creator's name is codycanteatthis
POV: you are just about to get in contact with Nintendo lawyers
Wow! This is incredible! You made it the same but in 3d! You’ve earned yourself a subscriber! Think you can do Pac-Man?
I love the slight glow in the darkness caused by the suit it looks so cool
This looks like a great concept for a arena mode, even if its metroid theemed, insane job.
If you're able to do all of this why don't you just make your own game? I'm a new subscriber by the way I just found your Channel
First of all: AWESOME PROJECT! This thing is really freaking cool. The dark and creepy atmosphere you added makes it infinitely better. The zoomers look and act super good. Also, sizing up Kraid makes the fight much better. Some constructive criticism: The camera angle should be a bit closer and more behind Samus in my opinion. I also think the rooms (or at least some of them) should be significantly smaller since Metroid has always been in cramped cave systems and creepy complexes. Almost never super open aside from massive boss or puzzle rooms. Copying the original layout for some of the rooms just doesn’t work in 3D and I think it would have been cool for you to experiment with the environmental design. Also there are far too many enemies which doesn’t fit with the awesome atmosphere you made. But overall this whole thing is really cool and it’s impressive what you were able to do in such a short time period! Sorry if I sounded like a jerk. I love this creation and I hope you make more stuff soon!
You don't sound like a jerk, you sound like criticist, and I have no problem with that.
@@Pyrodiac Ah yes, not a critic, but a criticist.
Hopefully he'll continue with it
Thank you so much! I really appreciate constructive criticism, anything that helps me make better content for you guys is very welcome :D
I have so much respect for people making fan projects like this keep on the good work man
This is really cool. Think you could do the same with metroid 2?
Love it so much, every Metroid fans is super happy about this project
Awesome work! It would be amazing if you could sell the project files for the animation timer and weapon/enemy system etc.
Thanks! I’m working on creating a community discord server where I’ll share code people are interested in
@@bobbyivar I look forward to it!
One things’s for sure, the atmosphere is paramount here! An excellent reimagining of the feel you get from the original! Great modelwork too!
Dope remake, crazy how much a glow and little polish makes such a big difference
It looks easier than the original
Literally
you know, it'd be really cool to see an entire 2D game made with this art style, it just has something really satisfying to it!
Voxel models can look very awesome, ivar made them look so good for Samus and the enemies!
Check the PS3 game “3D Dot Game Heroes” which is a Zelda style game in that art style
there's a game called metroid, it has this art style and is 2d
@@pixelfoxshouse you know exactly what I meant with my comment
@@cheese_vviz yeah i was just joking around, voxels are 3d, so i assume you are talking about a 2.5d game
Wow, esse é o 1° vídeo do canal? FENONEMAL, Por favor faça mais jogos! ficou incrível! A edição ficou bem explicativa e me deu até vontade de aprender a criar jogos! Obrigado
I was so surprised when I found out this is your first video... Amazing job man, keep it up!
This is such a good video, especially for your first one! Excited for future uploads!
Congrats on your work. You've captured so much simplicity and charm of the original. You did it justice, while also creating something magical yourself. Beautiful work!
I bet this man will have a hundred thousand subs a year from now. Great video!
metroid is the best droid. Don't @ me
Actual factsss, love your content btw bro! everyone go wishlist Mana Valley ;)
High-quality three-dimensional games and animation are always a pleasure to witness.
Such an amazing job. Keep doing this sort of thing you'll find huge success bro!
This looks REALLY good man!!!
I'm so glad this got recommended to me
Keep up the great work!
i really like the video, its amazing this is your first video it kind of reminds me of CodyCantEatThis
you totally crushed the atmosphere in this.
not to mention it made me really think how massive Zebes would actually be
I think it could be salvaged by a closer fov setting
I think this would also be a great engine for 2.5d sidescroller metroid game tbh
How can i download it? it's just too great for me to just watch it, i wanna play it
As a person who Metroid is my favorite NES game, this gets me genuinely happy!
Great job! What a great reimagining of a timeless gem!
The amount of effort that went into this is amazing. You’ve earned my sub.

Amazing video, I could have swear you were a big youtuber. Can't wait for more content. And don't be afraid to make videos longer 15-20 minutes is fine.
Wow! the attention to detail is amazing. I think it would be cool if you had a "2D mode" as an option, where you could play in the original 2d format but with your beautiful 3d world... I guess from a slightly isometric angle to show off the depth, maybe? Also having the original music and sound effects to would be a cool hit of nostalgia. Amazing work!!
This is actually sick. the best one yet for sure.
I love the choppy animation with the voxel model, such a cool style. I love this!
Honestly, seeing Kraid in a 3D space like this is something I didn't know I needed until now. Here's hoping (assuming you keep working on this game) Ridley gets this sorta glow up too
**you are playing Metroid**
**You got a game over and was sent to the main menu and see that you unlocked a few achievements**
**Achievement 1: got +1k subscribers on your first video**
**Achievement 2: remade a great recreation of Metroid in 3d**

I know that you're using distinctly non-copyrighty music, but the Metroid Resynthesized from Luminist would be a perfect fit for this. Amazing work!
This is truly amazing. Nintendo need to hire you. This would be a mega hit
Where are the download links..this is looks awesome!!
I cant believe you got so many subs just by making one video!

This can't be your first video, it's so well done! The cuts, general editing, etc. are sooo well done!!! Also very good 3d modeling and coding!
Indeed, this was such a great vid!
This is the best thing that the algorithm has recommended to me holy crap this video is AMAZING
I HOPE U BLOW UP FR
Im a huge fan of Metroid!! What a great remake! Cant wait to see what u make next!
I love it, I would like to play it, you should create a videogame with this base, one question i would like to have the model of Samus for 3d print, it looks amazing
First video and not only did you catch my attention with the title and thumbnail, but the video itself is really damn good, the commentary, the process, the editing, etc.
I really want to see this channel blow up and get a lot more attention.
It may be 11 months after you made this, but if you ever plan to expand this project I have some suggestions.
Firstly, a lock on system like in the Prime games would make aiming far easier, as if right now it seems like lining yourself up with enemies would be really difficult.
Seccond of all, I think retrofitting newer features, such as a map could make the game a bit more approachable.
Finally, HOLY SHIT TURN DOWN THE ENEMY NUMBER ON THE CRAWLY GUYS ON THE STARTING BIT THERES ONE FOR EVERY TILE-
Bro you are Hella underrated even though it's your first video please make more🔥🔥
Thanks bro I have a lot more videos planned, can't wait to make them ;)
Sooo uhhh..... 3DSEN, can grab it on steam.. .. .. It literally converts ANY original NES game into a beautiful 3D affair. Literally perfect every time, and done automatically.
Easy Peasy
It won't turn a side scroller into a third person 3D affair... but it very much WILL add every bit of depth to the side scrolling original game, as if it were modeled and made that way from the onset. Pretty incredible... and for sure an easier way to get your NES 3D fix.
Nice jerb though.
The real question is why remake it in 3D when your just going to stretch out the environment and do nothing new.
Blaster master did it, pretty well...
Exactly
It's just a concept..new things are implemented once the concept is solid.
Wow you’re right you made this in a week x2
Cause it's cool
This is very impressive but I just hope that Nintendo doesn’t try to sue you like they did with am2r..
I honestly would love to see a Mike Tyson's Punch Out remake with the 8 bit sprites remade as 3D with pixels.
congrats on all the subs for the first video. ive been here since youtube began and barely have 800 something. lul
You’re such an underrated channel, this is amazing!!
It sucks when a FAN has to do this stuff, rather than the company.
Passion projects are always the best. You put your heart in it and it shows. Well done!
You're saying as if there aren't already 3 amazing 3d metroid games
it sucks what the company does to the fan...
Three months ago? Damn, algo's slacking on this one. One thing that stands out to me is the Kraid fight. It seems like the upper projectiles are a bit wasted in 3D, since you can avoid all of them by moving to the side, unlike in a flat plane.
One way I can see to perhaps improve that situation would be for the projectiles to have some homing functionality, to give a reason to jump during the fight.
Armchair designing over. I still love the idea, and hats off for taking the time to implement it.
There's so much inaccuracy here that it hurts me
I would like to know what's inaccurate about it, and If you could do it better in a video, would be awesome, I'm asking nicely, I'm a huge Metroid Fan
I’m so so damn glad I subscribed loveeeee this I’d play the fk outta this game you remade!!! WOOOOO 🥇❤️❤️❤️❤️
Meanwhile ubishit is making their 20th assassin's creed and fifa copy earning more than most ppl can ever dream of, and all that comes out are buggy clone abominations that make you wonder if you're actually playing a new game. Pog industry
The super fans from Nintendo need to apply for a job to work officially for Nintendo, Sega especially for the hacked jobs which are amazing.
If you go the masochist route and try to make Super Metroid in 3D.. That would be nuts. This though, looks freaking insane. I thought it was gonna be a 3DNES video but nope lol. Hopefully my comment affects the algorithm enough to attract some viewers. Amazing editing on the video by the way. 👍🏻
makes nintendon'ts latest metroid entries look like garbage by comparison. This looks like so much fun to play and has that retroesque feel yet with the freshness of newer 3D modeling techniques using the Unreal Engine's latest version. Cheers this was a true masterpiece!
Man, when I came across CodyCan'tEatThis, I thought they were you. Your work is so similar to their's, and just watched the Celeste video he did.
I hope you’re being careful bro Nintendo isn’t known to be kind to fan creators .. regardless great vid man you’ve got real skill.
AMAZING MUSIC TOO, so Metroid-like (atmospheric type)🔥🔥
How much money do you want for this?
Edit: this looks amazing, well done, you earned yourself a subscriber
instant sub! i remember seeing another big channel do this with the og smb and i thought this was just that channel again with a new video... i saw in the comment that this was ur first vid?! dude you are insane this was amazing and beautiful. looking forward to seeing more!
