I was 13yr deputy sheriff out in So Cal. I was involved in a pursuit and was struck 7 times with suspect vehicle. I’m now disabled. God bless your son and he’ll always have a brother over here!

Congrats to your son on his graduation from the police academy! Welcome to "the job" as we call it. I recently retired at the age of 47 after putting in 27 years "on the job." Young enough to now be able to enjoy myself. It is both boring and exciting, frustrating and rewarding. There will be plenty of "oh shit" moments, and sometimes after a call he will think to himself, "well, that coulda really went bad." There will be life-long friends made, comradery, lots of laughs, and lots of busting stones. Most days it felt like I was going outside to play with my friends. It all adds up to being the best job in the world! Best wishes for a long and successful career!

There are many times that the books must be set aside and go free style. I am a retired Patrol Sergeant in SW Ohio with my daughter (19 years) and son (5 years) are also following my career paths. Big congrats to you & your boy, I hope all goes well for him. My grandson asked about becoming a cop & I advised against it. Police are are vilified in the MSM, physically attacked and indicted for doing their job. There is a risk of losing qualified immunity, which almost nobody understands, and it’s no longer worth the risk.
