    I was starting to change the front lights on my wife's car until I found the nightmare and I had to quit. I thought I was going to take 10 minutes when I realised I needed a toolbox and a lot of patience. The engineer who created this system should be in prison. Thank you for the detailed guide, I had to save it here for when I do it. Still a task head. I believe that even my 4 year old daughter can't fit her hand to change it as it says in the manual and tearing half a car to change a light it's just crazy. Back lights are easy tho.

      If u think that who projected the bulbs light place, in consideration of its uncomfortable position, needs to go to jail, go and check how to replace the rear speakers in the 3- door version... a wrong screw to replace might make you head to dismantle the whole car!!

    Your passive aggressive comments about the user's manual and the basic design which requires one to dismantle so much of the Car in order to change a simple headlight we're certainly much kinder than the thoughts going through my Grad AS I was doing it!!
    Thanks so very much for a well done and helpful Video. Saved me much time and grief.

      Thanks. I have worked in and managed design teams all my life and I have seen how designers brush ignore issues. This one certainly caught them with their trousers down to the extent that they couldn't bear to write the truth in the user manual. The service manager at the local Vauxhall dealer just shrugged his shoulders when I asked him about it. He said 'there are a few models that have the same problem' . On my Volvo you pull up a slide lock and the headlight module comes out. No tools required.

    I have an 08 Corsa. Exactly the same issue with access to the back of the headlamp units. Started removing the unit and then decided to check YT just in case I'd missed something obvious. Found your vid. So it looks as if I do have to remove the entire headlight housing. As you say, Vauxhall evidently want to make it as difficult as possible for owners to do a basic bulb change! Thank you for making a very helpful walk through. Cheers 😎👍

    I came here to see how and where the actual bulp, socket and clamp is located to remove the bulb by feeling my way forward, but this video shows how to replace the whole lamp.
    I am though very impressed by your patience... it even looks like it is raining!?! Kudos to you sir 👍

    • @razenby
      @razenby  5 місяців тому +1

      You have to remove the headlight to change the build. On some models variants with a different fuse box you can just about get to the bulb. Otherwise it is necessary take the headlight out.

      NO don't take bumper off.
      I did in 10 minutes. All you need is a 1.5mm allen key, hook it through one of the holes of metal prongs sticking out then pull it with pilers

    What a palaver, I've just sold my Volvo and it was dead easy to change the headlight bulbs , one little lever that held the whole headlight unit in place, I've just downsized to a vauxhall agila 1.2 and it looks like i will at some point have the same problem changing the bulbs 💡, so thank you for forewarning me about this problem.

      Ahh, good luck. It isn't too bad a job once you know what you are up against. There is a good tip on here that you should leave the lower screw out for next time. I did that on the driver's side and the headlight feels OK with just the top screw fitted. Subscribe if you can thanks.

    Thanks for the help with this. Having previously been able to contort my fingers into position just enough to change the bulbs in the past, I eventually needed to do this the long way (with the help of your video) - the bulb connectors both broke off leaving me no choice but to strip down. In my reassembly, I decided to leave off the hidden screw/bolt - I don't believe it's necessary. I also greased the pressure springs that retain the bulb and also fitted a small pull strap to the new bulb (using a bit of garden wire, a 1 mm drill and a bit of earth sheathing). So hopefully I won't need the full strip down again, and if I need to take out the headlamp, only the visible screws to be removed :) . Many thanks again for the insights

    • @razenby
      @razenby  2 роки тому +3

      Hi Michael, it is bad how fragile the inner parts of the headlamp are. I keep getting daft comments from Corsa owners with different under bonnet configuration reckoning that they had no problem changing the bulb without headlight removal with itty bitty fingers. Good to hear confirmation. Cheers.

    I just watched this today, and was dreading doing it, because changing a bulb should not be this hard. Cold dark and stormy here, forced me to find an easier way. Opened the bulb cover, and without removing the wire block, I just pulled the whole bulb out in one go, it is very awkward, and you need to be a contortionist, or left handed. Once out remove bulb from wire block, and replace with new one and shove straight back in. Took me 2 minutes. I had difficulty getting the back cover, back in place, but all good now.
    Thanks for all info anyway.

      2 take the hedlight (bulbs cover)
      3 pull firmly cable socket that is on the bulb. Try losening it by moving it left-right.
      4 pull out bulb. That was hardest.

As you say Corsa not built for maintainability at all. Vauxhall try testing your publications! Halfords and places must be rubbing their hands together offering fitting with cars like this and then charging labour for bumper removal. Incidentally, cant believe the French still require you to carry a set of bulbs as well. As if your going to do that at the side of the road. Thanks for watching. hate mechanics bills. Our Corsa D 1.4 petrol has done 160K miles and is very reliable. The oil has been changed every 6,000 miles. I have quote a lot of respect for it. Our Ford Fiesta 1.6 Petrol 2009 rattled in the suspension and the engine at 100K miles. It literally started to disintegrate, Whereas the Corsa has only needed a couple of new springs and maintenance. Try to love it...

When one fails I change both as they don't last. • @razenby

      Yes some models have a more accessible dip beam bulb. (see other comments) It depends on the layout in the engine compartment. On this car the gap that you can make isn't enough to even get your little finger in - even with the cover removed from the fuse box.

    There’s a joke here somewhere… how many people does it take to change a headlamp bulb in a Corsa D? 3 to make the UA-cam video showing you what other parts of the car you have to disassemble to get the actual headlamps out, 45k people to like that vid, 1 person to watch the vid, miscellaneous numbers of Amazon employees to source, pack and ship the special tool you need to drill out the one bolt with the rounded off head that the last person left… and one miserable cnt to actually do the work (me).

    The person who designed it this way must have been on shrooms or something.
    First we tried doing the replacement normally under the hood - impossible, we're not contortionists. Then we figured oh, the headlight assembly must come off, no biggie right? We removed the visible bolts and the assembly would rattle around but budge - so we wondered there must be a hidden bolt somewhere.
    Then we found your video and realized the work still ahead of us and just drove the car off a cliff. The engineer who came up with this crap should be forced to replace headlights on these for eternity. I pity the fools working at the Vauxhall dealership. Good god.

    Hi, I’ve done all the necessary things and changed my bulb. It wasn’t hard and pretty straight forward. 2008 corsa design. Issue I have now is adjusting the headlight patten on the road. It’s now too pointed down to the ground. I hope I can adjust this manually (as I cannot via the inside controls) those cogs next to the connect I can imagine adjust the headlight? You see what I mean at 9:25 in the video… to spin in into a better position. What’s your thoughts?

    • @jamiejeffries5017
      @jamiejeffries5017 2 роки тому

      Actually sorry there is a black connector right next to the bulb which is supposed to be the electronic motor that moves the dead lamps positioning. I hope I just have that in the wrong position when I re installed it as I mistaken that as the bulb housing.

    • @razenby
      @razenby  2 роки тому +1

      There are three things that can affect the beam pattern/position:
      1. The bulb isn't sitting correctly in the holder or it is the incorrect bulb type..
      2. The headlight isn't mounted correctly - this should be evident when you look at the headlight so unlikely.
      3. There is a headlight leveling motor in our Corsa controlled by the BECM. Check the plug is fully in and the locking slide engaged. . Did you by any change turn the ignition on without the headlight connected? On many cars this will need the headlight resetting with a OBD terminal / code scanner.
