In my opinion he played it with the most original "Brahms" feeling. Rest in peace maestro. He was one of the greatest ever...
I know im asking randomly but does anybody know a way to log back into an Instagram account?
I somehow forgot my password. I would appreciate any help you can offer me.
@Arthur Wesley Instablaster ;)
@Cade Alfred Thanks for your reply. I got to the site through google and im waiting for the hacking stuff now.
Takes quite some time so I will get back to you later with my results.
@Cade Alfred It worked and I actually got access to my account again. I'm so happy:D
Thanks so much, you really help me out!
@Arthur Wesley No problem =)
In the 1980's, I spoke to pianist Detlef Kraus, who specialized in, and was considered by many to be the authority of his day on the music of Brahms. I suggested, as had many others before me, that nobody interpreted Brahms as well as he did.
"Possibly," he admitted, and without missing a beat, added: "except for Arrau, naturally."
Brahms was nineteen when he wrote this majestic work.
Yes, incredible. Such a genius.
a diciannove anni!!!!!!Che musicista!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That is stunning. I'm a violinist all my life, and just started seriously studying piano 6 years ago. When I think of Brahms I immediately recall the magnificent violin concerto, and the three sonatas for violin and piano ( and the Academic Festival Overture). His works for piano is new ground for me. I have much to learn!
I have not heard anybody else who can play the second movement (especially from 13:48) better. This is really the most touching moment of the whole piece. There are many "ways" to under-express or over-express the emotion. Pianists may just stay on the surface without fully unfolding the hidden turbulence; They may focus so much on some details that the whole passage loses the power of consistency; then we can not see the power develops and accumulates towards the ending (passage starting at 20:50).
Arrau's intepretation releases the full potential of the piece by gaining energy and meaning from every note, phrase, and passage.
He is 81 here, and this is a tough piece.
quelle majesté de jeu !
As far as I know this concert ment the glorious return of Maestro Claudio Arrau to his natal country, Chile. A most prescious document, a unique interpretation.
Pure Gold Arrau!! A connection with "the soul of the work", very seldom( or not at all) heard nowadays...Claudio Arrau is not "in this world" while playing...that's something No pianist ever had, it's a truly a phenomen a medium, it's something words can´t describe...
Bravo maestro Arrau!!
Dear God and he was 81, flawless memory, and his hands were still great.
A monumental interpretation from the great Arrau.
Absolutely! I very, very, very much agree.
Wonderful performance, a true musician
Arrau is my favourite pianist of all time. I'm so surprised and shocked that no one has ever mentioned the bars he accidentally skipped in the repeat of the expostion while this video has been here for seven years.
Do you think it really needed to be discussed even?
Why you flexxing?
Also, lol...so many wrong notes. Not that I care, in fact... i love it. He risks accuracy for sound, direction, energy and shape. But the competitive, virtuosic, soulless style of art today would not abide these trivial clams.
@@TheseusTex and that is exactly why there is no Caludio Arrau in this times...
Arrau did not do this by accident. Read Brahms' letters to Mandyczewski.
A true servant to the music and a great interpreter of this work. overpowering in every way. Ovation deserved!
Thank you and thank you again! What a man...
Reminds me on Brendel playing Schubert... These old Masters, sitting there so wise an just playing fantastic. There are amazing young Pianist.. but i like more to listen and watch old men or women .. they know how to build and create this athmosphere... and they Don t need to try to be amazing, they just are :D
Brendel was a student compared to Arrau,... he was a terrible pianist,... sloppy and bad sound,... horrible,..
@@arturonicolayevsky9675 Aha.
Arturo Nicolayevsky Very hard words about Brendel. I heard him several times in Copenhagen. Last time in 2006 , in a Haydn , Mozart, Schubert recital. The Haydn sonatas were exiting and the Schubert Sonata in G- Major was magic nearly hypnotic. My very favorite interpreter is Arrau, but I think Brendel is one of the greatest pianists in the generation after Arrau.
At 81, imagine that. Monumental
Beautiful piano playing ! Thank you for uploading :)
Magnifique 2ème mouvement 🙏
0:30 - Allegro maestoso
10:50 - Andante. Andante espressivo
23:09 - Scherzo. Allegro energico avec trio
27:57 - Intermezzo. Andante molto
31:11 - Finale.
20:17 Celibidache! Magnifique progression!
Ce moment est particulièrement nul, désolé.
Avez-vous entendu Kate Liu ici ?
He didn't play it note-perfect, but it was music-perfect.
he was in his 81s, most profesional pianist are retired at this age for the same
Very very much Agree!!
Maravilloso!
For me the best Brahms, with Arrau!!!!❤❤❤❤❤❤
grande impegno ... grande intensità
Arrau, um chileno incomensurável!
A very demanding and misterious piece! I am hearing different interpretations. Arrau's one is outstanding. But I wished to know which kind of piano Brahms had used, when he composed it.
I wonder if he was trying to exercite himself for orchestra composition.
The _Andante_ . Magical.
Lost the ¨Elan ¨..., a litle bit ( 81 years old ) !!!...but not his maestral musicality !! The last movement is fantástic !!!
Am I the only one who's seeing a lack of synchronization between the sound and the video? (And I don't remember experiencing this problem before)
Unfortunately the audio / video sync shifted because a part of the video that had been cut came in (I don't know why). The same thing happened with a video by Sviatoslav Richter and Beethoven. I have to find time and a way to republish them.
Very poetical.
commovente!
81 y.o and still performing such taxing sonata
Magistral
For my part 2 is a bit too long
God, l enjoyed that.

Arrau, o Beethoven latino!
Lupu is a better version of
I don't like to make rankings, but Lupu was an absolute genius and one of my favourite pianists, and I miss him very much. I made trips and took planes to go and listen to him.
@@Vladivostok1969 I personally think that Arrau is overrated. There are just too many pianists with better technique. I don't like his version of the Nocturnes either. Lupu had a somewhat limited repertoire but he excelled at it. Also he doesn't have the technique to play the more difficult pieces of Liszt, Rachmaninoff, etc..
Too old for this Sonata.
Far too slow!Typical of Arrau..:slows down towards the end of each piece he is playing.
you have no idea what he does musically,...
@@arturonicolayevsky9675 Not much to my taste!
@@falamimire that’s different personal taste is not debatable
@@falamimire but to question Arrau’s unsurpassable technique musical and spiritual abilities it’s undebatable/unquestionable
@@arturonicolayevsky9675 You are right:either you like it or not-I don't.
Que mal tocó :(
Luis Alamillo
Unfair. He is 81. You listen for the soul
of the playing at that age, not for virtuosity, which by the way he had in spades when younger. He was steeped in the German literature since moving to Berlin at 10 to study with Martin Krause.
@@afritimm he still had enough virtousity, this piece is very demanding, technically, musically, physically and mentally.
