I'm a big fan of Concordant Crossroads in Grolnok. Sorta pays for itself with dorks, allows frog to attack as soon as he comes out, and most importantly tightens up Hermit Druid combo. And ofc is a permanent
Ufff!!!... the deck looks amazing, I hope to be able to put it together soon to play it, I think it's a deck with a lot of power, but The Gitrog Monste has the best tutors in the meta, which has great potential
In my grolnok CEDh list I run a slight variation. I use shuko as a backup for the cephalid illusionist combo as I can urzas saga and inventors fair for it. I also use aphetto alchemist as it also combos with mesmeric orb via targeting itself with the untap ability My creature ability removal includes Mystic subdual Witness protection Dress down And oko I’ve considered kenriths transformation but found it too slow
Exactly as I'd hoped 🐸 love your work Ian. Deck is sweet. Especially the non-frog lines - I never like a deck that's too reliant on the commander. Thanks for posting!
I never see Ambassador Laquatus in any Grolnok list and I always wondered why. Once you get infinite colorless with Kinnan and Basalt, you can activate it infinitely to mill all opponents, then yourself, cast all color producing mana rocks and cast thassa's oracle for the win.
@@ComedIanMTG gotcha, still a great list. I run Ambassador Laquatus in mine, but I run a very budget list, and wouldnt be able to sit at a cEDH table lol
@@ComedIanMTG that’s a good point. I was only thinking of these enchantments reactively to stop opponents on their turns, but if you want to proactively shut off a drannith magistrate or a collector ouphe stopping lightning greaves/basalt monolith Mystic Subdual is the better bet
I don't know what you have pride havent tried, but hypnotic sprite is a solid choice, though the counter part of the card 3 mana so it is a bit high costed
They're kind of different decks because they are playing hermit differently. I would play Grolnok personally but idk that I could comment on which one is better explicitly either way
While my frog is a bit more casual, i found a lot of value in Subtlety, Hydromorph Guardian, and even Fact or Fiction can be very strong at times Edit: also, Saryth has been over preforming for me
@@crovax1375 gotcha, I'd be a bit hesitant to include it given it's expensive cost and not being that useful during the actual course of a game, but it could definitely be a card that I'm open to looking at
Not a fan of Jace, the whole reason other versions of the deck run Ballista/Kinnan lines is because it layers with the pieces you already have in the deck, as well as the 2 best tutors in simic are artifact and creature tutors. So you can tutor into these pieces and it also allows you to win without grolnok. I’m still fine tuning my version, trying to balance the permanents and nonpermanent count.
I would argue that adding 2 cards that don't really contribute to the game plan is a bit of a stretch to call layering when it only layers with basalt monolith. Also there are lines with jace and oracle that don't need Grolnok as I went over in the deck tech
@@ComedIanMTG I see what you’re saying, and I’ll give it a shot, however, I am skeptical of how easily it would be to cast Jace after you Hermit Druid? Also, I noticed you have very little interaction to remove enchantments and artifacts to deal with problematic things of the sort other than Rift…what was your reasoning behind it?

Instill energy is missing from your list. IMO monolith/orb is not ideal for this list. Better to go creature based and play seeker of skybreak/aphetto alchemist. In my testing I feel you want your combo to be creature based and shielded by allosaurus shepherd or destiny spinner.
I'm also on thought lash. It's cute. and shuko. Intuition is a one card combo with led, shuko, and illusionist. And needs no additional mana. Where is traumatize!? We need 5 mana PITA! 😄
@@ComedIanMTG do you think is viable even without some expensive cards like Lion's Eye Diamond or intuition.. I have almost all deck , only those ones don't . Thank you for your answer
@@pedrojosilva the deck without intuition specifically is a good amount worse. It's definitely playable but you should probably make adjustments to the tutors and what not.
I would love to see an update on this deck list. Looks fun and spicy. Born upon the wind seems nuts in this deck.

You considered Overcharged Amalgam? A counterspell/stifle on a body seems like it'd be super useful, might be a bit slow at 4 mana tho.
I know some people liked it but I can't see 4 mana being the cost I want to pay
Perfect choice of background music 🤌🏻

Any chance we can get an update to this list?
My newest CEDH deck. Love it.
Any thoughts on Dress Down? I feel like I would take Dress Down over Mystic Subdual to counter thoracle. Or just play them both!
I'm not a fan given that it shuts off grolnok and therefore any instant speed stuff we could do. Additionally it shuts off 90% of our win conditions

Hey Ian, is hermit druid/self mill strategy better with Kenrith or Grolnok?

Hm...is it really that good? Gitrog is a very special frog.
Is solve the equasion really that good?
Solve the equation gets intuition which is a one card win condition
my name is Ian and I also play Grolnok... I'm not kidding
Major downside to this frog -- my opponents seem "to understand my win condition"
Fantastic content as always though man! Fantastically explained.
A lot of cedh players understand what other decks are trying to do. It's all about time Ng and having a way to protect your win

Could Thought Scour or Consider be better than Ponder/Brainstorm here?
I think the cute synergy of those cards don't really make up for how much worse they are in comparison, especially without Grolnok on the field
Can the deck play the Food Chain package as a backup? Since the pieces are all permanents?
There isn't any outlet in the command zone for it
