This deck is the best. I have been playing edh for 11 years and I never stepped foot into the competitive side of the format until I saw this list and how it plays. Now I’ve been playing cEDH for the better part of a year and I gotta say I’m hooked. This baby is pure gas, proactive, flexible, and best of all- hella fun. Congrats Ian, for brewing the choicest deck in the format.
I absolutely love that I, Ian, come to UA-cam to find Winota tech for my own cEDH list and find the homie Ian over here with the fire list! Without a doubt my favorite deck. Thanks bro!
This is so dope Ian! Thanks for the resource, really appreciate the time you've put into making this list over the past year or so. When Winota came out the Boros fanboy in me knew she'd do broken stuff, little did I know she'd make it into the top tiers of the CEDH meta! I've been playing your list online for a while now and it slaps. Just made a $75 variation for an uber budget CEDH league we have at my college, and I'm looking forward to popping off with it there (albeit 1-2 turns slower, lol).
I truly love that I got to live in the day and age where you can play an AGGRO deck who’s main plan seems to be non infinite combat damage(with infinite as a backup), at the HIGHEST level of competitive edh play
This deck has been my first ever cedh deck after over a decade of edh. And its so fun. Playing boros and winning with combat in cedh? Yes please! Amazing deck
Only posting this because I know you'll probably see it. Missing one of my favorite CEDH content creators and your in depth evaluation/spot on understanding of the format. From one Ian to another, you are missed.
I used to think Winota was not a bad matchup for GW Sisay, especially because I could goldfish my combos out a turn or two faster, or I could wreck the deck with Elesh Norn. Then you all started playing Rick. Rick makes the deck play at a pace where it's a lot harder to stop. I also think that Winota has such a great mix of demanding interaction to stop other decks and needing interaction to be stopped. I often find that if I try to keep Winota in check with Elesh Norn, I kill stax pieces that I want in play against the other decks. It's a really fun and challenging matchup.
I add really good success with Cathar Commando in my meta and the "Avalanche Build". I love both build and had success in my local meta with both. I know you would never cut Kiki, but I would say it is meta dependant. Maybe once people are back on Cyc Rift and more Board Wipe, I will put the Kiki combo in but for now I personally dont need it. We still have a combo in the deck. It is a shame I cant get my hands on Rick. I have to go for a Replacement but none are as good as it
I literally have every single card for this deck (minus mox diamond because me no have enough $$$) but god d ay u mmmm, its beautiful once you turn 2 winota and get at least 1-2 triggers on her.
As far as greedier decks go I subbed out REB for jor kadeen to play along side rick and when that happens it’s absolutely nuts. I once blade historiated then triggered with PW and OT into Rick and jor and what a absolute beat down that next turn was.
I really appreciate your help that you give back to the community on this deck and i love that you keep it up to date with the kamigawa lands! I'm not into cedh yet but i plan on getting into it with this deck. The only thing that i personally question about is this really a magus of the moon deck? We have quite a few utility lands ourselves with the the nexus creature lands, city of traitors gemstone mine cavern of souls etc...how many other cedh decks are out there that get shut down by magus? I was considering cutting it for an esper sentinel for more taxing and card draw. Thoughts?
Great video. I've been playing Yisan for some time, but Winota really speaks to me. I like that it's relatively cheap to build compared to a lot of 4/5c lists. I'm going to be giving it a try soon.
No Auratouched Mage + Breath of Fury combo? I've found that to be very strong in the deck. Very often Breath of Fury gives you enough extra Winota triggers that you find a Loyal Apprentice, Rionya or Mirage Phalanx and just combo out from there. It overlaps and layers beautifully with the Combat Celebrant combos and often leads into them. Auratouched mage is basically a human 1-card win con if you have any kind of board presence. And it's quite an elegant 2-card package compared to the slightly clunky Kiki package. Have you tested this combo?
its wild just how different this deck has changed just from this video. touch the Spirit Realm, Skrelc, Defector Mite, Phoenix Chick, Myr Convert, Soulless Jailer archivist of oghma and professional face breaker. I wonder what 2023 will bring the best girl.
Second comment on here, but what do you think of Rip Apart as a second copy of abrade? I feel like it makes the cut over one of the blast cards just due to its versatility.
@@munsulight721 I just find it can be really annoying if you're locked out due to a hate piece or a drannith magistrate, and it can deal with pretty much anything blocking your game plan. In those situations, anything is better than just sitting there.
@@samhparker I 100% agree on your statement but I did try Rip Apart before and it Just felt underwhelming. Maybe it Will be good enough in your testing. . I wanted to love the card
I keep losing to creature based wincons like marwyn's infinite e-wit loops and kriik's fast black ooze combo around t3. How much would cursed totem hurt this deck? I'm considering it because of how many creature wincons are in my meta. Should also mention the marwyn I face aggressively mulligans for ouphe just for me.
@@ComedIanMTG Thalia heretic cathar (3c thalia) actually helped a lot with my problem, tried linvala but she hasn't come up in my hands yet and I can't flip her with winota.
Cut Zealous Conscripts for Village Bell ringer. 1. If zealous conscripts enters the battlefield with winotas ability, he enters the battlefield triggering but you already declared attackers so village bell ringer is more viable in this term 2. you can tutor it with imperial recruiter 3. 2 mana less 4. Better as a single card without kiki jikki
It's Winota 100%. Winota decks have Top 4'd the past 4-5 cEDH events and Sigarda has never even reached a top 4 in a public tournament. Winota also cheats card advantage and mana advantage better than any commander previously only being limited by her colors.
@@ComedIanMTG I'm slowly building this but for now, I'm excluding the expensive artifacts, lands and creatures. It's slow but I'm having a lot of fun with it. Thank you for this. Right now Im only missing Ragavan, Dockside, Esper, Ranger Capt and Solitude for the creatures. Any alternative recommendation for those?
It's definitely not a luck thing. There are hard numbers that go behind the chances. I have statistically some pretty poor luck and the deck performs wonderfully for me
Despite it being in my top cards in the format at the moment a list like this heavily prioritizes synergy and esper sentinel really doesn't give us anything we need.

I also started playing cEDH with this deck!
cedh is still a snoozefest
I cannot express how excited I am to build this as my first cedh deck. Thanks for all the work you've put into it Ian!
Ian’s been reading our comments on Twitter and is out to set the record straight!
Don’t cut the kiki combo, ever.

This deck got me into commander and this was amazing to see thought process behind mulligans. Super valuable. Thank you!
I am an avid Winota player. Thanks for helping those that are just picking up the deck.

Winota even on a budget slaps. Unless they have board wipe it is so hard to stop her in a budget league
I've recently been trying to learn Winota and your mulligan advice has been invaluable. Keep it up!
Not gonna lie; I think I am gonna use this video as the Gold Standard of how to do a Deck Tech. Thanks for all you do!

my build is still in the casual/high powered tier and am slowly building towards this. been having fun playing it.

I'll be back soon :)
Last week I decided to build Winota. Very excited for this!
I am a control player, so when I seen a boros deck was controlling via stax I was sold!
i’ve just started a winota cedh build! am excited to try it out next week!
Thank you Ian , for a guide!
Great video, I watched the video you did on Playing with Power on underrated CMDRS. Gonna try and build a Yasharn Stax.
I thought this was another top 4 video and my first reaction was “dude wtf!”

My favorite card ever. I dont play EDH but I only play her busted boros deck in modern.
I do run the aggressive Winota. Other than Vandalblast and Wear-Tear the other one I played with was Shenanigans.
Winota was the reason I had to add Orim's Chant to my Extus build...
Currently building this deck and it’s so much fun to play! Please keep updating this deck!!
Super informative. Great video

How about rup apart as a removal spell? It requires both red white instead of abrades colorless red but it can hit enchantments that stop the swing
Sorcery speed makes me very low on it tbh
Have you done an updated Kroxa deck tech? That would be tighyyyyt. Thanks!

Rip Apart sorcery speed hurts like hell

The blasts are definitely lower than they have been historically. I'd look at other options before a sorcery speed spell
someone gilded drake my winota and i laugh out loud like a villain playing Rionya on my turn

not really...

Would this deck still be strong today in 2023? Would love to make it.
Can you help me understand the Gilded Drake interaction?
Ian, between Winota and Sigarda, who's the better stax commander? I feel like Winota is way more explosive but Sigarda seems really resilient.

It's an old card that is a human. Types have been added to old cards you can see on gatherer or other sites updated typing
is it possible to build this without the expensive artifacts? or creatures will also be changed?

any updates with all the new possible additions!?

any thoughts on the new secret lair human
Doesn't really provide anything we need unfortunately

How does Winota do versus other STAX decks
I forget who did it but some channel did an all winota duel haha
Could someone hook me up with a budget friendly list ? Something to start with and work towards the actual list ?
Has this deck list been updated?
All the time lol
Winota is an amputee/Lost her arm? Had no clue.
