Aw that’s awesome! I think painting and tabletop gaming is a really good activity for kids, he has gotten pretty good at math without even realizing it and I feel way better about him painting for a few hours than watching TV. Glad your kids are enjoying it too!!
Dude, this is my first time seeing one of your videos and your video style, humor, and sheer talant you possess is insane. Also that's such a sweet thing you did for your kid, I hope he really loves what you've done. I'm subbing!
my best answer is : "it's complicated" , sometimes they are cool, sometimes they are lame, it can vary from the particular unit, to color scheme or videogame/story. for me the models are at their best when they are fully dressed in regalia, that it doesn't only set them apart for generic futuristic armor suit dude but also give each mini their own identity, even within chapters with same logos each regalia is a little bit different in each on of them. for example i am not really into Space Marine lore or factions besides the bare minimum but i was looking at their model range and really liked the Deathwatch, and without knowing about lore i can tell that it is a special all-star team with the best badasses from each chapter, and they are cool.
This is super cool, now your son has a record of good times with his dad when you both get older, he can still see this, in the future. Remembrance. For the Machine is immortal.
10:59 I'm always surprised by how much hate Matt Ward gets. He was 1 writer, teams of people sign off on everything he wrote for GW. And people act like he had an unbelievable level of agency. Also he clearly loves imperial fists he wrote more about them than he ever did about ultramarines. He is even on record saying that.
Great video! To me marines are cool because, despite being anything but, every problem they face is inherently human. They're still flawed and manipulated by powers greater than them. Despite being larger than life, where all their immediate struggles boil down to shooting a big gun good, their inherent strength and unity in the face of desperation and an evermore likely extermination of the human race, they persevere despite having none of the tools they need to solve their actual problems. Promises of power and the warp did nothing but make their problems worse. The guard are certainly in the same position, but they know they are merely human. How does a space marine accept and be something they simply aren't anymore?
Great vid dude, love how you agonised over that decision. I can relate! My problem is, I think its all cool and I end up getting a little of everything. But as you say it's definitely fun!
I like space marines, but…. There’s a catch. I really only like the divergent chapters more like Black Templar. Their unique models even the new primaris ones have so much character. I absolutely love the medieval knights in space
I love space marines, I got nearly 200 models including 50 RTB01 space marines, a LE2 marine, and a 1st edition terminator (not the one with the hunchback or huge pauldrons, the third one). The problem I see most is that space marines, at their core, are just a bunch of glorified armor panels with guns. This problem didn't exist as much before Primaris, with the standard troop having a lot more identity and customization. Sure Primaris kits are better, but I just wish they did a range refresh more in line to the new Horus Heresy minis, which are just perfect in my opinion. Space Marines chaptered, as I see it, is the true space marine experience. If you take a space marine and add in just a little bit of Rome, or just a bit of crusader, or just a bit of Mongolian they become amazing. If the standard space marine kit came with Ultramarine bits to make them more Roman-esque would be a good way to add back in the flavor to standard kits. Also give me the mark 6 or 7 helmets back GW I'm begging you!
As somebody that has read a substantial amount of the Horus Heresy. They range from really cool to really poorly written. Kharn is one of the most compelling characters I've read. 40k marines I think suffer from a lot of dillution.
tyranids have been my favorite army aesthetically for years now. so as a 40k enjoyer only marines i find interesting are chaos oriented ones, death guard have some of the cooler ones to me. normal marines on the other hand look super goofy, their power armour is too bulky and rounded off to look menacing imo. halo got their design right imo with masterchief, bulky enough to look strong but not chunky like sm are. space marines fall short for my taste, although some of the dark angel models are pretty neat
Here from Dana Howl's post. Space Marines are _not_ cool, in much the same way that everything metal is not cool, but it is fun and it is fun to pretend that it is cool.
I think a big reason people don’t like space marines is over exposure once you start getting into 40K. Most of my friends who don’t know anything about the game think they’re cool in a 80s metal album cover kind of way.
Are Space Marines Cool? A good question, when I got into the hobby pre-VID I thought they looked cool but I went for Sisters of Battle because I had seen Space Marines a lot and wanted to start with something diffrent and Sisters looked cool. However assembly of sisters for someone who'd never put miniatures together before, was a massive challenge to the point I went to get Space Marines because they were easier to assemble and helped me learn to assemble minis, as silly as it sounds. So are they cool? Yeah I think so because you can make them as cool as you want them they're very versatile that way.
Knights are cool. Space knights are cool. Space Marines are cool in Starcraft. They're cool in 40k. Buzz Lightyear is cool. Armor is cool!!! *To me lol
And until relatively recently space marines were all about 5'6" in height when compared to normal human soldiers in the setting even though their online dating profiles listed them as seven-and-a-half feet tall for some reason. Then after about a dozen novels worth needless explanation to explain why some marine models are bigger than others--something they really haven't cared about for the last thirty years (I'm looking at you indeterminate scale vehicles) they said "There, That's it." And then they made the primarchs all about fourteen-feet-tall. I would hate to be an interior designer in M41, that's all I'm gonna say. To this day I cannot tell whether or not GW has ever bothered to buy a cheap plastic ruler for their design department. Maybe they just didn't get the message that England was going metric all those years ago? I just don't know. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Space marines are not cool at all. Even the earliest ones just seem to be Leagues of Votann prototypes. Orks though! Orks are totally cool. They don't give a damn about scale other than bigger is better. Just buy a second ork army for yourself. Unlike nearly every other faction in the game orks fight amongst themselves more than they do other factions and there are a lot of army options.
They are easily the best thing in the entire setting. The entire HH book series is just about marines and people fucking loved it, they are the best selling army by a mile, have the best videogames. The list goes on.... people just like to hate on thing because they are popular so that they can stand out.
There is one line I forgot to record when making this video, and it was “how can space marines seemingly be the most popular army and the most hated on at the same time?” But then I guess that question kind of answers it self.
02:38 - 100% me
Hahaha it’s partially your fault he loves orks so much!
this kid rules
Thank you for making Warhammer family friendly and family inclusive content. My little guys love it.
Aw that’s awesome! I think painting and tabletop gaming is a really good activity for kids, he has gotten pretty good at math without even realizing it and I feel way better about him painting for a few hours than watching TV. Glad your kids are enjoying it too!!
Brady makes some compelling points!
Loved your response 😂
I mean he’s not wrong. Can you imagine trying to make a video called “Are Orkz Cool?” That’s not even a real question lol
They have the potential to be cool, but that's up to whoever builds and paints them.
Facts. I’m still blown away by Dana Howls Space Sharks.
This is a really cool format, talking to loads of different hobbyists and gamers and really exploring what people think of the hobby. Great video!
Our hobby can be so solitary sometimes… I love bringing people together over painting little plastic toy soldiers.
Dude, this is my first time seeing one of your videos and your video style, humor, and sheer talant you possess is insane.
Also that's such a sweet thing you did for your kid, I hope he really loves what you've done. I'm subbing!
Wow thank you so much! So glad to have you here! And yes, he uses the terrain every day haha.
Lovs the stylized edits here!
My son is 3 and he likes to paint minis, its cool to see how your son is taking a interest in it.
Fantastic video! That was such a fun watch - But like, are they cool?
😉

Yeah I had to go down a rabbit hole after he said that to remember all the drama. I dunno, at t his point it just seems like a meme.
I'm not a huge 40k or space marine fan myself. They are stupid easy to paint tho. I agree with your son about Orks 100%.
Great video, my daughter had a similar interest in Death Guard that's waned. This has encouraged me to play a game with her

This is a pretty cool take, I like where your head’s at!
Top deck games goated
Loved the interview section a lot!
Great vid dude, love how you agonised over that decision. I can relate! My problem is, I think its all cool and I end up getting a little of everything. But as you say it's definitely fun!
Yeah man, say what you will, they’re awesome
I like space marines, but…. There’s a catch. I really only like the divergent chapters more like Black Templar. Their unique models even the new primaris ones have so much character. I absolutely love the medieval knights in space
@@timunderbakke8756 yeah that’s the thing, space marines are such a broad faction, some of them are kinda lame, but some of them are so dope.
Oh hell yeah
Goobertown. What a legend XD
I'm curious what game were you playing there at the end that uses both templates and has primaris marines
My kid just loves blast templates and scatter dice, so we homebrew them in whenever we can
Lot of care and love on display here bud, your vids keep getting batter and better.
as for the marines....
FOR SANGUINIUS!!🩸
Appreciate you homie!! And yeah… this one took a minute for sure haha but stoked with how
It turned out!
How awesome 😉😉

ayy the top deck mini wall is a place of hopes and dreams
The eighth wonder of the world
cool becomes cringe, fun is eternal.
Real
I am commenting

I was looking forward to your custom Dong Loppers chapter but these are cool too. What’s next?
My takeaway is that I wish my local had a used mini shelf
Haha yeah It’s the best
i don't know if space marines are cool. But i know what you are doing for your kid is cool!
Haha thank you! It’s something we both love so it’s not like it’s hard but I’m so glad we get to share it together!!
Space Bois are cool I think but they're really the best when I want something easy to paint
he’s got an arm off!!

wow who's the stunner eating ice cream at 3:36 ??

Loved the video
I think they're cool, but the minis are a bit samey after a while, I think there are more interesting factions.
Are Space Marines Cool? I think that’s it. They’re as cool as you make them. And yeah sisters are like AdMech. They look incredible but the building and painting is rough.
I like their look but I find all the primarch daddy issue stuff obnoxious.
Knights are cool. Space knights are cool. Space Marines are cool in Starcraft. They're cool in 40k. Buzz Lightyear is cool. Armor is cool!!!
*To me lol
I’ll die on this hill, Ultramarines are Emperor darn cool, they are space Romans

Yes they are
Once again, the style of your videos are top notch. I still think Space Marines are lame though, sorry.
That’s allowed haha, thanks for watching!
Space Marines > Primaris
That’s why I just chuck old helmets on them and just pretend they’re taller now 😉
They are easily the best thing in the entire setting.

They were cool in the 2000’s
Primaris ones just bore me. They now remind me of custodes in how they feel bland.
yes. well that was easy...
They are, end of video
Awsome vid man.
Space marines are cool
Primaris are not
Nah not any more...g dubs tries way to hard with em. I get it , they're the poster child of 40k but other armies need some limelight to
SM are is 40k
Naw
I like to think the Marines are robots ha. The human heads aren't for me
Not to me, but you dig what you dig.
No.
Nope.
Warhammer spits on its audience so nothing it has is cool anymore.
Nope.
